The first time I listened to this I thought "not bad, worth a second listen".
Now that I've listened 4242 times, I realize this song is musical crack.
+Saint Lunaire Exactly the same. It's been a few weeks and still everything else sounds like "meh", so I just keep coming back to this
+Saint Lunaire Same here! Randomly discovered on Spotify this morning and still playing in look. I am sure I will play again on my way home
+Saint Lunaire Haha same thing. I listened to it last night, and was like....yeah it's a pretty good song. Went to bed, woke up, played a few songs from other groups. Played this again, and now here I am on my 23rd listen. It is amazing.
+Saint Lunaire One more for that club. We have a radio station here that plays it. I heard it two or three times there. Then I heard Puppet to the Man. That's the one that actually stuck in my head. So I looked him up on Spotify and found this one again. And now I can't stop listening to it!
+Saint Lunaire I am following a similar trajectory lol
Kurt is my big brother ... I knew he was gonna blow up after I heard this song for the 1st time!
That's pretty awesome
+Wes Vile Nyrus
your brother is awesome.
This guy is amazing. my son introduced mecto his music and I can't stop listening. He's coming to a small club here soon snd we're going. Can't wsit@
Talented brother :)
This really is weirdly addictive. I’ve found myself listening to it almost every day for the last year. As my wife says happily “oh it’s him again”

Hahaha Cool!
Same and i dont get tired of it like, ever!
man... you took the words out of my mouth, weird... this is my driving song and I have a clear connection with some places because of this song. Gets me pumped, its my favourite song to sing... which I'm shit at :)
Why do I have to find these songs 5 fucking years after they were made? This is amazing.

"But he was sporting all my clothes I gotta say pretty pimpin" is probably the coolest line I've ever heard in a song.
Not even close. "We're gonna lay down the law and break it" - Steely Dan
not even the coolest line in this song

Amen to that. Sometimes I feel like I'm just traveling along in life next to my body, but not really inside it.

Almost nine years later and this song is still pretty pimpin. 🔥
Ever since my daughter was born she needed this song to fall asleep, go for naps, and to stop crying. she's 9 months now and nothing has changed. I never heard of Kurt before i discovered her love for this song (randomly came across it) so i just wanna say thank you kurt for helping my baby have good sleeps and keeping me sane, you've gained 2 fans

Awwwwww. She has good taste 😂
Kurt Vile! You remind me of my stepfather, he was a young man who played guitar, who reminds me alot of you. He had the same hair, the same face and the smile and charm. A streetperformer who saw alot of love in his music. He came into my life at the age 6. I was an isecure kid with little love to my family, it changed everything. He brought me out in the woods, made tents out of blankets on warm summers far away from everything. He showed me love, and made me to the guy i am today. He took his life when i was 15 (now 26). Love to see your energy, because that is what he showed me. The energy to live my life, even tho everthing sometimes seems helpless
Keep the music flowing, it's awesome!
+Kaspar Marius Jota very beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Wow. Sad. But i also know that pain.
+Kaspar Marius Jota Lovely man,Thanks for sharing!

+Kaspar Marius Jota It sounds like he was an awesome guy :)
this song articulates something i didn't even knew i was experiencing until i heard it. this is what music does, it gives us back a piece of ourselves.
Beautifully described.
Absolutely. Our lives are played out through the music we listen to.
There are songs that perfectly encapsulates everything your feeling. Certain songs just gravitate towards you. I wish I could sing and make music like this.
This is the theme song to my spiritual transformation. Didn't know it was happening but this song hooked me. Now I look and listen back and I'm a bit like wow. He's a gorgeous soul!!
IF YOU ARE LOSING PIECES OF YOURSELF YOU MAY REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION NOT MUSICAL !
You always hear people talk about guys who save Rock and roll for a certain few years or a certain generation and keep it going well this is one of those guys for me.
I was feeling frustrated that the people in my world don't find the same depth and attachment to this song that I do and wished that I could find someone who appreciates this song as much as me (for all the same reasons and more). And then I read all these comments and felt much better. I love the lyrics, the harmonies, the chord changes on the guitar, the drums, the rhythm, the background vocals, the video, the feeling of something so familiar and yet distant that it captures through the words and the music. Just brilliant.
I’m feeling you ❤

John Holland We just keep watching the same videos at the same time. I'm really digging this, also!
Matthew McDaniel Haha! Miss you, man. Give me a shout sometime.
John Holland yes. you get it.
Matthew McDaniel I've had this song on repeat and I've noticed some awesomely subtle things in the lyrics. One of my favorites : early in the song he says "Didn't recognize the MAN in the mirror". Then he later says "All he ever wanted was to be a man, but was a little to cute". Later in the lyrics he repeats the mirror line but says "Didn't recognize the BOY in the mirror". Such a great little detail.
John Holland You said the truth that I didn't even reach before you said it. It totally is. It's not up up up like summer music. We're definitely gettting into more controlled territory. I wonder what else great music like this that fall 2015 will bring. hmm
Fighting depression right now after the death of a classmate. This song is something I listen to everyday just because it puts me in a good mood. I love the beat and it lifts my spirits. Thanks Kurt Vile. ✌

Seriously though, this song relates something that shouldn't be so relatable.
Kurt Vile is some kind of genius, and also a fairly ordinary guy.
Pretty pimpin, I gotta say.
Found this song on the radio today right after I found a new cowboy hat. The song resonated with me because I’ve “been” so many people in my 54 years. From being in bands like Brian Jonestown Massacre, Psychic TV, to being a beach bum, to starting a tech company, to currently caring for autistic men. I DID literally brush a stranger’s teeth today. Then I found my cowboy hat, then three wild mustangs walked right up to my autistic patient and myself as we listened to this song. One of those cosmic magic moments. Thanks for the song, Kurt. Keep reflecting wonder.
Keep kickin in bud!!
Godspeed. Let me know if you need a knife pro bono

Late September 2015. Fall had started, but the summer refused to go away, although the sunshine wasn't the same and I was about to embrace a intra-rail journey for a week around the country. This masterpiece was blasting all the time on my favourite radios and I was enjoying the threeling of being free and young. I didn't recognize myself at mirror, because I was discovering myself being a lonely travel. The song was a part of that journey, and really miss those days, every time I listen it.
Can relate. I was left alone in Birmingham. Limited money, new job, new people. Turned out great autumn. Later, February 2016 I got other job, made a lot of money, travelled a lot. Left that job in September 2021, left UK for good.
This song is very meaningful for me. And I'm not sentimental.
God bless!

Probably the best song I've heard in the past decade.
my dad told me to listen to this around thanksgiving when i first got into skateboarding and there was this feeling and nothing can touch it and i have never felt that close to my dad like that and i wish i could tell myself just love and i would do anything to relive october-november of 2020
I've been listening to this song for 5 years. It becomes more relevant every year. The slow peeling off of my true self for the version of my self that succeeds in corporate America hurts every day.
stay true to yourself. get out of that hellhole. they terminated my employment this month, just a week shy of my four year anniversary with the evil multinational conglomerate. it was unfair, but I chose not to fight it. they can give that job to some other sucker who wants to be mentally and physically enslaved, only to be dropped like a bad habit after sacrificing so much of their soul. that feeling of freedom was and still is invigorating. I picked up my last paycheck today and officially said good riddance.
@@mooncricket2311 Good for you man. I have too many financial entanglements at this point. It's sad but I need to keep the income I'm making to pay my mortgage at this point
@@JBTFan124 as soul stealing as it is, I'm glad you're sticking with it. i would have much rather preferred to leave on good terms and have another opportunity already in place. the relief that comes with this liberation is short lived. as you can imagine, finding a way to continue supporting myself is a whole new set of problems. the thought of losing everything you worked hard for keeps you up at night. I'm determined to avoid that, but if I don't, so be it. everything happens for a reason. perhaps, to enable you to fully appreciate all that you had before. stay strong brother.
Yo, don't sell yourself out to corporate entities. Keep your true self. You can both work and stay true to what your values are! Remember that to your job, in the end, you're just another possession that can be easily discarded.

This song has such a classic sounding electric guitar
I just discovered this song a few days ago, and wow is this song a work of art. I've had chronic head pain for about 10 years now leading to depression and dissociation, and this is just hitting home.
The wonderful and hypnotic instrumentation captured me immediately, the lyrics were relatable, and then, like how each day just feels the same as the last, it repeats itself. And repeats itself, and repeats itself where time has no meaning. Brief changes here and there to provide a moment of self-awareness before fading back into a trance of more of the same. The song ends, each minute another day lost.
I really appreciate this track and have added it to my playlists!
thanks for sharing that

First listen "meh... It's okay".... 20 listens later "IM PRETTY PIMPIN!!!!"
haha this comment is wildly underrated!
This song is messed!! When it started playing on utube radio, “Pretty Pimpin” sounded a little too mainstream, but I started listening to the lyrics, and found it pretty close to my predicament. Normally, songs like this don’t affect me [I mean, I listen to some pretty depressive stuff, like Black Metal, so, idfk].
I wake every morning, and look in the mirror, saying to myself this’ll be the day I’ll go back, and find a job - “I’ll make myself, my girlfriend, and the family proud. I’ll move again; I’ll also start picking up on what I wanna do; play music.” Instead, I’m standing here getting distracted, spacing on every little thing like the leaves blowing in from outside, like they’d have some sort of inspiration or meaning. 30 minutes later, after my long and intense investigation with the leaves; I’m still by the mirror, but glued to my phone - “Who can I go drink with today?...Ah, this song sounds good in the background. Wish I could play like that...but I’m gonna drink today, I’ll practice later.”
Distracted, but eventually coming back, in and out, to the mirror. “Everyone says I should cut my hair, “Nah, that’s never been my style...” And I also need to grow up and get a job. This will make me a man, and Ill feel accomplished...Damn, but Id rather drink and hangout today; have fun, like a son of a gun.” Then time passes fast, and it’s already another Thursday, Friday, Saturday - back at the mirror, feeling like a Clown because I did nothing productive I said I was gonna do... “Call me a boy, but at the very least, this “boy’s” clothes are Hotter than whole town, PRETTY PIMPIN”
i think you may be too quick to dismiss a lot of music if this it your attitude (I don't mean this in a mean way btw)
i also listen to a lot of metal music but some of the best lyrics i've heard have been in genres more like this
Your attitude is what you just accused them of having, stating the the best lyrics you’ve found come from genres such as this, and thus dismissing metal. I’ve seen your “trippy playlist” and the majority of it is modern pop rock. There isn’t one trippy metal song on there or really any other genres for that matter.
@@user-vn3hv7zb6g Dude fucking calm down. I said by no means any of what you are accusing me of. I said that some of the best lyrics I have found have been in genres outside of metal. Key words there: "Some" and "I have found". As in, of all the music I have listened to enough to know the lyrics, there has been a number of songs I have considered, in my personal opinion, to have exceptional lyrics. Out of these songs, some of them are not metal. The fact you managed to extract that from me is such a huge leap you should get a gold medal for the olympic long jump.
Secondly, you clearly seem so heated about it that you went onto my channel? Nice. That playlist is for the music videos, not the songs themselves. There is a variety of genres, king gizz for example is somewhere between fuzz rock and thrash metal depending on album. But as I said, its about the video. I considered sticking some tool in there but decided against it as it's pretty likely the disturbing imagery in their music videos could send people down bad trips.
I also didn't accuse him of anything. The only person accusing anybody of anything here is you, and for no fucking reason. Stop viewing people as the enemy and looking for fights where they're not needed, we're all adults here fucking act like one. All the best dude, genuinely. I hope you find a healthier way to channel your negativity in the future. Cheers. :)
@@user-vn3hv7zb6g Jesus my reply was aggressive, sorry dude don't know where that came from. I think halfway through writing it I forgot what your comment said and remembered it having a much more attacking tone. My bad.
This song is freakin gold, man! I can’t turn it off! ❤❤❤

This songs gotten me through some things but today it is getting me through a big thing. Someone legendary sent me here. Great song, Kurt Vile. Thank you.
A few years back I had a drawing class in college where we had weekly sketchbook assignments. I'd sit for hours the night before it was due (damn you procrastination!) and just listen to Kurt Vile the whole time. It made another otherwise arduous job not so bad. I just love his music and style.
