Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. 4 years before the timeline veered off course in 2016, lol. And yet I’m glad this song/video still exists in whichever unhinged timeline we’re in now. Every year or so I remember FJM exists and fall back in love.
So my theory is that she's dead. I know "she was dead the whole time" is an overdone theory but hear me out. At the start she wakes up in the same place and position as she was at the end. She walks back to a house where there's what looks like a funeral- everyone is in black, there's funeral wreaths and flowers. Said funeral turns into a hipster rave later but whatever, artistic licence. She varies between attempts at physical intimacy and being violently disruptive. Why? Because she desperately wants to connect with the world of the living but she can't, because she's not supposed to be there. At the end she's collapsed on the road and she's back where she started, and Misty (who is barefoot, this traditionally being a signifier of Death) forcibly takes her away. It's not a perfect theory but I think it matches up.
This analysis really hits the nail!! I thought that maybe the funeral theme for the party, symbolises the ending of her relationship with the guy (FJM), and the girl with the pearl necklace is his new girlfriend. Whom she attacks and kills in anger (probably a drug or alcoholic fantasy/dream). Then her ex-boyfriend finds her lying on the street after the party, where she acts desperat and angry for him leaving her. - But her being dead makes more sense with the description of her seeking intimacy and attention in the living world!
