lost pretty much everything during hurricane irma on St John US Virgin Islands. A famous country music singer friend of mine sent me to israel for 7 weeks, and, walking around the desert near the dead sea at Ein Gedi, i ran across this beutiful song. it changed everything. it was at this moment that i realized..."i got this." thanks, Kurt and Courtney. you guys are the shit., and you cats have a new fan that will probably hang around for every new song you produce. cheers. I was in jail for a brief period this song immediately relieved me of depression that’s definitely a powerful song and anxiety and when I first heard this in radio I was writing as many words down as I could so I could listen to it when I got out. Bravo

I'm a 78 year old relic from the Little Richard era. I've followed music through the ages and I have to say that Courtney Barnett is the first musician to REALLY impress me for quite a while. Other loves are Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Caro Emerald. So you see, I have good taste. Kurt's brilliant too.

I love music and I lost my dad last yr and had no desire to listen to music after and later on I avoided it because it would make me too emotional and I couldn't control it.. this is the first 'new song' I listened to and it really just described my emotion I don't play an instrument or anything but just blaring music and ignoring life I guess because music makes me feel better/experience something that is really unique and special and at the time I was over everything. Love this song so much awesome collaboration.

I bought Kurt's Wakin on a pretty daze which I really liked, then just recently I got into Courtney's stuff - and then I found they've done this album together and it's some kind of woozy heaven.

It evokes Paul Kelly, Chris Bailey and The Saints, but Courtney and Kurt have their own spacial feel. (I meant to type 'special' but I think 'spacial' is the right word). I only discovered their music last week.

What an absolutely wonderful concept! Brilliantly shot and composed. So simple and effective. (I'm sure it was tough for the editor to resist the urge to put digital pushes on the chorus shots to add energy, but I'm glad they did. I like the simplicity) Kudos to Director and DP's (and everyone else who worked on this)! (Also Kurt and Courtney made a great song!)
Curious what's a digital push?
It's when instead of moving a camera or zooming in on the lens while you're filming, you add a digital zoom later. Instead of the zoom happening in physical space, it simply pushes into the existing footage. A lot of music videos use this technique because they lack the time/budget to do these moves on set, or they feel they need a little extra pizazz while they're editing.
Ahhh okay! I thought that might be it, and yeah I can certainly think of places where I've seen this. The stationary images here are so much better though, especially as they keep getting further from the camera.

@4:25, I know that restaurant Kurt Vile is standing in front of. It's the Pine Crest Restaurant on the Black Horse Pike in Folsom, NJ. I've driven past it loads of times. It used to be known as a very good place to eat some years ago, but that chef moved on. Since Kurt is from the Philly area it's not that surprising he may have seen this place on his way to the South Jersey shore area. Also @3:54 he's playing in front of the pond by the motel that sits next to the restaurant.
@1:37 looks like one of the many bridges crossing the Schuylkill River in Philly. @3:05 he's on the Ben Franklin Bridge. And I'm pretty sure @4:41 he's playing in front of an old abandoned shopping center on the White Horse Pike in Clementon.
Pretty cool to see landmarks you actually know that are local to you in a video.
