@N Logan why didnt you just listen as if you were in the military?? Whats the whole point of discipline if the military couldn't instill discipline in you??
N Logan I’ll take *Things That Didn’t Happen* for 1000, Alex. Bet you’re one of those “I would’ve punched the Drill Sgt if he got in my face”
@@elchucofried5683 Right after teaching discipline, they reach situational awareness, having a plan. Always put yourself in the spot that is most advantageous.
Please, tell me all you know about the military.
@N Logan you're full of shit. 👢
"When a disciplined human goes to community college"
That was Community College!? What!?
Exactly!
Omgsh ye lol
In my experience, the veterans are the worst students in the class. Once you transfer out of CC then all that riffraff is gone
That's why I take community college online courses in highschool...
Forgot to include that one annoying student that comes up to you yelling "you're a murderer"!
@FANBOY Lets' Plays lol why. Just laugh and say i'll see you later tonight with a big smile
Honestly I would be far more receptive to someone airing a honestly held even if poorly informed opinion about the ethics of my actions as a soldier rather than the reflexive and hollow "thanks for your service" I always get.
goddamnname, yep. A cup of coffee or a beer 🍻. I don’t know about the rest of y’all, but the “Thanks for your service” sound weird to me. Because personally I didn’t do it for your sorry ass, I did it because “I” wanted to.

Nah classe is fancy for class
15 minutes prior to 15 minutes
you forgot the age difference. I went to college after 5 years of being in the military and all the people in there were straight out of high school. I was 23 and everybody else was 17 or 18. Basically a Billy Madison situation.
I was 26 when I went to college and dealt with a bunch of 17-20 year olds that had no respect or motivation. School systems are too easy on most of them.
+Derek Cormier I was 35 and most definitely felt like Billy Madison being around during all the 17-19 year olds. Damn kids. I never do show up 15 minutes prior though. No need to since there's already a class still in session prior to yours anyway.
that is the situation im in. im 25 and am in class with kids that curse at the teacher. my first semester i would correct them and quickly learned it wasnt the "right" thing to do since they would cry to the teacher
Tyler Cherry They curse at the teacher in college? Aren't they paying though for their education?
For me I was 28 and finished my college up in the civilian world.
Literally me during one class:
"Well that's a retarded method, why would they do X instead of Y?"
Teacher: "Don't use that word!"
Me: Why?
Teacher: "........" *Absolute non comprehension of a college student equal in age to her asking for clarification*
Or:
Student: "What are you doing tonight?"
Me: "IDK like going home and fishing or something."
Student: Wanna go out and have a few drinks?
Later
*Sitting there, only 2 drinks down, pacing well for the night*
Student: *Destroyed on alcohol*
"i didnt go to war for this shit" hes thinking
Although studying with vets has its downside, I find them very motivating. At least they get their shit together and do their share of the work in group assignments. You know, they have something to offer.
In return, I help them deal with millennials.
Thank you...so very much
Savalisk you know theyre probably millennials too? A millennial is someome born 1980-2000
NightOwl16
...........
yeah :D
Im right on the boarder of Millenial and gen z.
Happy to assist those who pull their own weight in group assignments.
Can anyone fill me in on what the difference is between a millennial and Gen Z? From what I've seen Millennials get a lot of shit, but I don't know why? Stupidity? Inflexibility?
Savalisk We get a lot of shit because that's how it always is. The old generation blames the youngest generation for all of its problems and how they're changing American culture. But when gen z takes over the millennials will start to call them stupid and lazy, that's just how it goes.
He has that, “My friends died for this?” face.
I've always been jealous of the discipline that veteran students have. You can spot them almost immediately. Always sharp in class, homework finished and organized before due ect...
I think that's because they're trained and disciplined lol
False. Not all. I've known some that shouldn't be in college.
I’m not a vet but that’s me
@@bluehornet197 def not. We're trained to put hand sanitizer under our eyes and shit talk quietly.

Uriah Graves Yes you can. Just word it differently because your making it seem like your this wise guy moron! If you don't like it, then don't go to a community college fuckface. There's always online classes you can take
1. It's the internet, and you're interpreting it how you wish to interpret it when you read it.
2. I'm getting off on how butthurt you are about this.

This video is humorous and I don't want to take to too seriously, but as a USMC Veteran who later graduated with a computer science degree, I enjoyed the discipline I had been *trained* to have through the military.
I wasn't a dick to others who didn't have the fortune to gain the same skills. I found my discipline a key tool in order to compete with others who may not had as much discipline, but were FAR smarter than I in math & sciences....not only did I earn a LOT of respect from my science colleagues for it, they helped me more enthusiastically, until I understood the topics as well as they did.
I am much smarter (& wealthier) for it.

So you chose leveraging the intimidation of others, over your own quality education?
I'm not sure that was a wise use of your time or intelligence. That is, unless you couldn't get through college any other way???
Years after your education, nobody will ever care about your GPA, in fact bragging about years later seems a REALLY petty & small.
Moreover, as you age, you will not be intimidating anymore.
What will you be left with? A sub-standard education & an old-man gut....but hey, your GPA was great!
LOL.
I remember that civilian grabass crap when I got out and finished my degrees. One class I talked to my professor afterwards and asked her how she can stand having such unmotivated "students" wasting a good seat but making the school rich.
That's even what my old High School teacher told me. He said if you're gonna be unmotivated and go to college, then don't even go to class, you're wasting everyone's time! lol
If I payed to be at school then hell yeah im going to be sleeping when I can and only get what I need to do what I want. I'm a 47 year-old Veteran who is currently taking the last class needed before graduating with my bachelor's in May. I attend class at the local community college and am in a class where all the students are twenty-plus years younger than I am. Class is two days a week, and one or more of the classmates at my table will complain about what's being taught at least one time during the class without fail. Every fiber of my being is itching to just tell these kids to "Shut the (EXPLETIVE) up and do the damn work, or drop the class!" However my military bearing kicks in, and I just tune it out the best I can. This surprises me at times, because after serving for so many years, I have a very low tolerance for b.s.
That’s awesome. I like hearing stories about older people (no offense intended) going to school. As a veteran, what would your opinion be on someone like me, who is almost 28 and only recently been interested in enlisting into the military? I never knew much about how it works but since I never finished college, due to bad discipline and the need to work full time, I’m realizing now it could’ve done some good to me to join out of high school. I’m aiming for Marines. Perhaps not infantry but I’d really like to earn the title and put in some work.

Make sure you are in great physical shape, because otherwise you will hate it. Especially the Marines and the Army. Navy and air force are more relaxed.

Man... That brings me back to when I got out and went right to college. Lol. It was like "What the f*** is wrong with everyone...?" Lol. I felt like I was an adult in a middle school class. I think the only 2 disciplined people in many of my classes, were the professor and myself.
I had a combat vet in an Ornithology class I took and we were both very reclusive.. Alot like the class portrayed in this video. Needless to say we hit it off really well and I could tell he was comfortable talking with me because we showed each other mutual respect and both had a desire to learn in the class. But man it was funny to see him glare at people with just pure disgust when they asked stupid questions or showed up late.
Are vets in college usually disgusted by things that average college students do because the vets have had a much harder lifestyle or something?
Not really, the majority of it is the military pounds discipline into your veins. It teaches you to dig deep and push past any limits you thought you had. It teaches you to embrace the suck, to put in 100% anyways.
The level this is embodied is dependant mostly on the individual, and then partly by their choice of service.
When a veteran uses the GI Bill, a 22+ year old is put in classes with 18 year olds who just left mommy and daddy's. A 22 year old who has been forced to grow up, traveled the world, dealt with learning life isn't fair already and then has to suffer silently as their classmates represent the old qualities they had before the military beat it out.
Some jokes to notice
1. Military are late if they aren't 15 minutes early. Marines take this a step further by being 15 minutes early to the 15 minutes early, etc.
2. Immaturity, kid is standing in his face playing that Pokemon game. Not a good idea, but also rude. Service members are bound to high standards of respect by the UCMJ and can be NJPd.
3. Chewing and walking. Using phone and walking. Headphones while walking. Hands in pockets. Not allowed in uniform. These things start to bother you to some extent after being in.
There's a lot more, not going to lie. I just got tired of trying on my phone.
Brandon Martel, The Army is full of shitbags and profile warriors. Don’t know what your talking about.

Plus, if i had a question about some homework I could ask them because they would have actually done it too.

Lmao John Jay College has a lot of military veterans, active and reservists as well as law enforcement agents etc. they are the ones inviting you out to drink everyday after class. They are respectful towards people and they are pretty much fun to hang out with 😅 Some participate in class but others rarely. You just saw them sitting quietly and when we spoke about war or politics etc they will rarely comment. They don’t like to share the fact they are in the military in front of the class. But police officers love to share stories and “educate” the “civilians” all the damn time
I could always tell fellow veterans at the community college I went to. For starters we were all older and sort of had what I'd call this wiser look compared to the fresh faced kids out of high school along with just giving off a certain vibe of maturity and generally more squared away and on point. We can never truly relax around people either.

As a veteran I entered university life at 26... it was MUCH worse than this. Community college was a little better as there were older students that had families but University was the WORST! Entitled little princesses that have known nothing but comfort and privilege their whole, douchey frathouse mcdudebros that would drink and act like 12 year olds. Females were all the same...Ugh boots, scrunchies, and yoga pants stuffed with fat asses and every dude in basketball shorts and a hoody. Everyone looks as though they just woke up.
No individualism yet no sense of something other or bigger than themselves. And the University did nothing for veterans, everything was catered to the little princesses so they could squeeze every dime out suburban mommy and daddy OR affirmative action city people who all have a chip on their shoulder due to some imaginary systemic oppression.
Unless you are going into engineering or medical school I would discourage veterans from the University system.. it was a miserable experience.
