My man, I sat down last night and beatboxed for 10 mins. I now have a complete song, thanks to this tutorial and a bout of creative passion. I soooooo needed this sub tool, and now I'm for sure going to do a deep dive into what you got goin' on!
Andrew! I just want to let you know that its not possible to buy any of your products through the Gumroad page for me. I also tried on a different card from a friend and i get the same error message. I tried talking to the customer service but nothing seems to happen.
The "Basic Sub Sine" (named HipHop Bass prior to Live 11) preset that comes with Live is also pretty good . I tend to use that if I just want a quick sub bass to throw into a project.
Thanks for the tip. The presenter's plug-in did not work for me, so I will try your suggestion. "Simply drag the .adg file into Ableton" is not good enough...in the Program folder? Audio Effect Racks folder? "Distortion" folder? None of those worked after a rescan in Preferences.
I just downloaded this and donated. Then I compared it to the free built in "Basic sub sine" and the basic sub sine is waaaayyy better, and its way better for all the things this plugin is trying to achieve.
@@Its3am The "Hip-Hop Sub Bass" preset apparently was so popular that they even restored it in a recent update of Live 11 even though "Basic Sub Sine" is exactly or almost exactly the same preset. It does provide nice ranges to tweak the sounds with.
I'm glad you added the "the magic is in the midrange, get that right and everything else will fall into place" has revolutionized both my sound design and mixing, after 13 years in ableton and 26 as a musician. I love throwing EQ3 on the master with the lows and highs turned off (just as a reference) to see how just the mids sound, check my levels, tweak things (and only make boosts or cuts in that 200hz-4k range) and then turn it off and hear the magic work.
This is DOPE. I was just last night saying how bass was way more complex than I first realised, and now you've blown it open for me to understand :) gonna get that plugin
It's good to have a lot of tools in your arsenal as a producer. For some songs, a basic sine will be enough, for others you might need this, or something completely different.
Awesome explanation of bass. Only other plugin I've encountered handling sub in a similar fashion is Waves' MaxxBass, but your Rack has more controls that make sense to me! Thanks for the freebie! Love the tutorials AND your music!
Thanks for this! Just grabbed it and can't wait to put it t use! Been looking for some god Live tutorials and i really like the way you present yours. Well done and thx again. Subbed and following.
hey ! great video thanks. Unfortunately this add-on is not for me because ableton live suite is needed to get the operator. live standard is not enough.
Excellent presentation. Maybe you will offer some tips on what I consider the most challenging task an audio engineer faces--so very few master--and that is mixing down tracks without blending. Separation of voices and instruments to me is the mark of a skilled engineer, where three or more voices are featured up front without competing against each other. Many producers limit the number of instruments to avoid blending ("muddy" sound). A good example of a professional mix is Katy Perry's "Roar," wherein each voice is distinct, party due to choice of instruments but also management of sound.
Aliasing distortion is inharmonic to the original signal and is often called foldback distortion because it happens when you try and sample a frequency above nyquist. What your experiencing with the comp control is just a variation of waveshaping… compression itself always adds 3rd order harmonics but fast attack and release times make it more like a clipper. If it wasn’t multiband, then its possible IMD (Inter modulation distortion) could be introduced, but its definitely just more harmonics from reshaping low frequencies and not aliasing by any means. Cool rack tho, nice work.
Thanks so much for sharing the rack and making the video! Super helpful. A lot of instructors I have had suggest to leave the sub as a pure sine wave, without any kind of distortion or saturation, and then layer from there. They say that adding any distortion/saturation will only make the sub frequencies feel weaker. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
Glad you you made this since others like myself have been troubleshooting this issue. I think there is a typo on the rack for "Harmonics". Great work, thanks so much for your knowledge.
Thanks for this: really like your tutorials. I always try to make things as simple as possible without dumbing down-that’s exactly what I get from your stuff. Great work mate!
What I don’t understand is, the sub bass in the example had frequencies that reach into to typical bass frequencies. Wouldn’t that create a clash and thus a muddy mix when sun bass and bass compete for the same range?
bummer. i just bought 3 effects racks, and when I downloaded the first one, it took me to another page and erased my payment page with the other downloads. Please let me know how I can get the other effect racks I paid for. This is pretty basic stuff. You need to fix the payment /download page asap. Not good for business! I appreciate you and what your doing, thank you for the tools 🙏
Very cool, any chance of an audio effect rack version? I know some of the things like 'Octave' wouldn't work but a lot of it would, and then I could drop it on existing sub tracks that use Serum or other synths.
A fantastic explanation of how sub bass can 'appear' to translate to systems not able to reproduce the same. Is anyone aware of a similar tool for Bitwig?
I've sorted this out and have been messing around with it it for months now. It's opened up a can of worms. So many questions. How does one use this along with a bassline in the higher frequencies without overlap and resulting buildup? Simple on its own, but how do you use it in a track along with other low freq parts? Treat it as a separate thing when the added high harmonics reach up into the 'bass' freq range?
@@MP_Soundbox EQ out the frequencies that are clashing/masking. Ideally your other instruments shouldn’t have sub, and your sub’s bass/low mids should make room for other instruments (rule of thumb, not absolute). Basically everything needs some space which you can carve out through EQ.
I found it! So if somebody has the same problem: you have 8 tabs in operator (4 left and 4 right), you need 2nd right tab from bottom (where you have pitch, spread, transpose). Click here and in the center of operator screen you can find glide on bottom right corner.
There are filter circuits on devices that make sound, so no matter how low or high you go on the frequency, the onboard filter is going to keep the speaker from blowing. Good expensive earphones can get down to 40hz, but the vast majority its 60hz to 20Khz. If I am making a song specifically to be played live on large speakers, I would add some sub base. For the average audio device, anything below 60hz is just going to get trimmed off by the filter circuit.
Very interesting! By the way, not sure if somebody else mentioned already since it's 9 months old (although it's also in the screenshot on the site where you can download it), but I noticed a typo on one of the controls when watching the video: "Harnmonics" (the n as 4th letter).
hi , ur pluggin is made for live 11 suite , i only have 11 standard , could you tell me what is behind the macro to try to make this pluggin with what I have, thanks.
I tried this on ableton 12 and im running into an issue that when i put this instrument i cannot add anything else besides audio effects. when i try to add an operator, the operator replaces subs you can hear and vice versa and since subs you can hear doesnt output any sound, i cannot do anything with it

Initially, I also ran into an error on Gumroad that wouldn't let me pay for it, but when I downloaded it for free it worked! lol. Still wanna tip you for this at least, is there a way I can do that other than through Gumroad? :)
