@@Financiallyfreeauthor That's the point, there is no truth to religions! It's nothing but a tool for mass control, it's political. Before the dominance of science and separation of the state and religion, everything was regulated by the church. We call those times the "dark ages" for a reason. People believed the stupidest 💩 and were willing to wage genicidal wars in the name of God. But as soon as people started to think freely and critically they started to turn their backs on their churches and the influence of Christian doctrine and ideology started to deminish. That's what those who push those ideologies are afraid of. And that's the reason why Islam is so brutally strict on upholding its rules and dogmatic. Neither its founder Muhammad nor the Imams who followed him up to this day are willing to give up that power and the aggressive patriarchal system that they have. That's why Muslims get indoctrinated since birth and punished for disobedience, so that they never question their ideology. There's nothing truthful to fear mongering and fanatism, there's nothing truthful to being forever stuck in an archaic backward system that rewards violence and hatred towards others. Religions are cults, they are poison that divides people instead of uniting them, which should be the actual goal of a loving god, if he exists.

I've been waiting for an exmuslim interview! What doesn't get talked about enough is that you are literally putting your life in danger leaving islam. You're doing amazing by bringing people's experiences to light, Shelise! Thank you for your work, Yasmine! We need voices like this for women and children like myself that barely escaped with our lives.
The best people to learn from about this topic are ex-Muslims and those who escaped their countries being taken over (Christians, Jews, Persians, Armenians, etc…). It's scary we now have youth chanting for Islamic terror at college campuses. They think covering their faces and heads are part of the fun jihad cosplay without being conscious enough to realize that how they'll be forced to dress once they let the demons take control.
Several decades ago, there was a movie called Not Without My Daughter." It starred Sally Field. This story is one more version of thousands of women oppressed and killed by this religion. Thank you for saving lives and minds by airing this truth!!
I live in Argentina, not the most diverse place in the world, but not the least either. I only oce saw a woman covered head to toe. She was walking along a guy dressed on a tee-shirt and shorts, had a lot of tattoos, just like any other dude. It shocked me. This guy is living like a regular western dude, no oppression on him, and she was completely dressed with the most extreme wardrobe that Islam calls for. The dissonance didn't compute. This couple clearly didn't live under the rules, just her.
Here is Russia a lot of muslim women are covered head to toe as well! They adapt their clothes, make them more casual, but they are always covered. Muslim men over here look just like any other guy that you can see on the street.
@@this_Kwazicat it's... Not insane, just unfair. I can't even describe the oddnes when this regular dud was walking along this black ghost. I even checked, the little window (sorry, I am not versed in Islamic clothing) had clothing covering it. I am not ignorant enough to have never seen it on TV or documentaries or UA-cam. Seeing it a block away from home, while everyone else is wearing summer clothes because it's fucking hot here, it was shocking. It's not like I haven't seen other Muslim people here, women with headscarves, with legging underneath their skirts. At least they were seeing! At least they had colors.
Yeah you see that a lot where I live in France. Women in burka whith their husband walking next to them in shorts and t-shirt But we have to believe it's the women's choice and respect their "freedom" of religion...
I’m always suspicious when the religion can’t be questioned. It makes me think the leaders don’t actually believe it. Because if it was the Truth, everyone would believe it.
One of the best students at my shool was a muslim girl. She was nice and very intelligent. They took her back to Iran when she was 14 to get married. The whole school was protesting against it. The teachers tried to talk to her parents. But they still took her. Now she is not allowed to contact us anymore.
This has nothing to with the religion but the culture what her parents did is considered sinful in Islam bc forced marriages are forbidden in Islam. It is her culture not the religion
@@khadijahk9615 The culture was formed by Islam. The early marriage of very young girls is supported by Mohammed himself. Also women and girls are still seen as property because Islam says they should be submissive towards their husbands and fathers.
@@khadijahk9615 i’m sorry it might be forbidden, but it is done with alarming frequency and in a very casual way that of course girls usually will just do as they are told and then the wives are shamed when their husbands good then go decide to take a second or third wife, so it might be forbidden theoretically, but it is a huge practice and well over half of the force marriages I hear about and see occur in the Muslim community
As a Turkish young adult, political islam ruined my childhood, my teenage years and killed my hopes and dreams. And we are talking about a country that's supposedly secular and the people are mostly cultural muslims. She is so strong for going through all of that, but I wish she didn't have to. I wanna add to the al sirat topic. That in itself is horrible, but I also grew up being told that the only people who didn't sin were the prophets, that it was inevitable for us to sin. So, while trying to not sin bc you don't want to burn in hell forever, I was also always terrified bc it was inevitable. I had panic attacks about death when I was just a tiny child.

My mind was complaining that I'm working too hard and I need a break. I am forever altered by this video, and the next time I am feeling sorry for my Cinderella life. My old neighbors were refugees from Iran. I am going to contact them and see if they’d want to speak on your podcast. I think more should know their story which ended better than a lot of peoples. Their story is insane and shows just how extreme and horrible extremism can be. He spoke out in a blog basically saying “whether you follow the book or not, if you are a good person, that’s all that matters…” he was put into jail, wife was taken to a literal concentration camp and was used as a sexual slave and suffers from physical repercussions even years later from the abuse, their son was taken and put into military training (luckily was 3/4 so has few memories of the time). Their story is wild, their escapes were even wilder and sound like a movie. He was sentenced to death…sometimes they’d come get him, put a hood on him, click their guns like it was time and laugh and put him back and other horrible tortures…he pretended to be super happy in his 4x4 cell, had chats with invisible folk and a “great time”, I guess they didn’t believe in execution of someone who was mentally ill, put on his hood, drove him to middle of nowhere said such and dropped him. He got his son freed somehow, they WALKED to Turkey from Iran, slept outside the embassy and refused to leave until seen, after an extended period they got his wife back…and were granted refuge by the US. They have some serious trauma and are the bravest people I’ve ever encountered. They are beyond kind and just making a simple statement on his blog caused pure insanity. They are extremely happy to have their freedom here, have both gone back to college, their son gets top grades, is a fantastic athlete and the sweetest kid, they are alwayssss joking, smiling, helping others, always bbq-ing, playing sports, gardening and just loving life now. By their attitudes? You’d think they grew up in Disney. They are truly so grateful and I am grateful we have them.
I am so sorry to hear of the torments your neighbors have suffered. They sound like totl sweethearts and I would love to have neighbors and friends like that.

I'm curious, were you told it was somehow bigoted to ask about these things or were they dismissed as something bigoted people would talk about? In my experience that's how it went. Very frustrating.
No group should ever be above criticism, especially where they're harmful. But of course extremists use real issues, like the hatred towards Muslims after 9/11, to shut down actual criticism
exactly like zionists that use the holocaust and antisemitism to shut down any kind of criticism towards the genocide they are committing. Its ironic considering how most muslim people absolutely hate israel
Exmuslim here. I travelled 10k miles to escape issues related to my gay sexuality. And I wasn't born in a majority-Muslim country, but came from a paternal side which was very religious. Couldn't live near them for my safety. My story isn't uncommon. Many of us have to leave our homes or religious families and communities for our survival - even in the Western world among migrant families.

As someone who has lived in multiple Muslim countries for work and have deep relationships with women there, coming back and having criticisms given what I’ve legitimately seen and heard and then having the racist/islamophobia comment made at me for legit concerns has always been hard. Ty for sharing the truth. People do not understand the freedom the west gives us in questioning and options to get out.
Yet many women in America are living in similar indoctrinated religions. It’s the religions that are fear based and the women and men are told to believe or else. We are not looking that way bc we believe we have choices in America. But in these extremist religions don’t believe they have choices, even in a so called free country.
Hey, I'm sorry you get treated that way. Unfortunately, the most prominent critics of Islam in the West aren't speaking from their own experiences; they're nationalist hardliners who use the plight of Muslim women and LGBT people to claim support for those groups while simultaneously pushing for legislation against their rights. Meanwhile, according to Pew Research, American Muslims are only 2% less likely to support gay marriage than American Christians. The knee-jerk reaction is shitty and I hope the people you've met apologize, but that reaction does exist for a reason beyond just 'haha progressives are stupid.'

This is a very timely interview. Having recently discovered Reddit's Ex-Muslim forum and binging on it, it's given me a whole new perspective on the religion from people who once were devotees. Yes, there are extremists in every religion. But some religious systems make extremism more likely to happen than others.
Yes this is so accurate. Whereas religions like Christianity and Judaism have plenty of extremist groups that harm members in the name of religion, Islam has violence written into their doctrine, which obviously makes it easier to do that stuff in the name of religion.

That the Quran says “ the best among you are those who treat your wives the best” and Islam tells The men not to make their women cry. That Quran tells men that they have no right to have a woman married without her consent( even in during the nikkah consent has to be expressed for it to be considered valid). I hate that the same thing happened in all way across the world Malasia. I am from Turkey so i understood why it affected us but Malasia? Insane! I wish you (and both of our countries) healing my friend.
By far, the most meaningful interview for me that you have done yet. As an American woman, I have grown up with my share of fear, feeling, trivialized, objectfied, villified bullied, and my voice ignored, but it pales in comparison to what others have endured and are still enduring all around the world. It is important that we fight for our voice and listen to those for whom having a voice and any physical freedom has not been and is still not an option. Without your story and knowledge, no one would know. I certainly didn't. With such rampant silencing, where would I have heard it from except those who escaped?
I have added this to my watch later list but I had to comment first and say I'm soo glad you're starting to interview ex-Muslims on your channel!! There is so much to unpack with Islam, I only recently learnt about it myself and a lot of that knowledge was gained through watching ex-Muslims videos. Keep up the amazing work Shelise. Your channel is incredible❤
You can find your way free from Christianity the same way you can Islam. It’s not necessary to allow men, who are pretending to speak for God, to tell you how to live your life. But you do you. I wish you well. 🩷
@@Starlight_SilverChristianity is Islam are opposites. Please, don’t ever compare. You probably don’t know much about about Christianity to say that. God is love. There’s no self sacrifice or killing others for Him. It’s in the Holy Bible. John 3:16❤

This is your best video, Shelise. We need to put more importance on TRUTH than political correctness. This is the first ex-muslim video on UA-cam that I've seen mention female genital mutilation. We need to bring A TON more attention to that atrocity
I had no idea how uninformed the public is. I have been passionate about this topic for over a decade and am still shocked that just last week I had to explain what FGM is to an adult. Zero knowledge
@emro164 I think yes fight against circumcision. But to compare the two and say that circumcision us just as painful and damaging is purely fiction and you will only hurt your own argument by putting the two together. One eliminates all sex pleasure, One is done to destroy the woman and her ability to have sex. Only one of those
@emro164 that's not true, male circumcision is not as unnecessary and painful as FGM. FGM is literally taking out an organ of a girl who is 5-7 years old- meaning she will remember that pain forever. male circumcision is done only to babies. while yes it doesn't have a proper function, at least its not taking away something major like FGM. both should end, but we have the right and responsibility to crack down on FGM first as a priority.
@emro164 I agree with you to an extent, however, circumcision is mainly done under anesthesia or with pain killers while the boy is still a baby AND he still has the ability to enjoy sex as an adult. FGM, only a very very small percentage is done in a medical facility, and ALL variations of FGM permanently destroy the girls ability to enjoy sex. It is a complete mutilation and desecration of the female anatomy. It has an extremely high mortality rate. It makes pregnancy and birth excruciating and nearly impossible without surgical intervention. Its done on an older child in a group setting, where they are held down and cut with a razor blade under no anesthetics or main management. It's to dehumanize the women and turn them into nothing but a walking incubator. It's barbaric. There is a difference.
I am Pentecostal, and I love your show. The horrors of what people have gone through inside of religious organizations or cults are terrible. As a follower of Christ, I believe that this channel is great because it shows everything that Jesus doesn't stand for, and I understand that when people come out of these experiences it is hard to go into another religious organization. So thank you to you and your husband and the hard work you both do to bring these things to light.
Here we go again….Please tell me why you believe Islam is a cult? “You cant leave” Yes you can “Promotes violence” promotes peace. “Oppressed” not at all “Rape! Pedophiles! Terrorist!” Rape? We don’t rape people I’m guessing it’s the agreeing to sex, no you can if you have reasonable answers, whoever doesn’t listen to them wives choice, shame on you, Pedophila? I admire the strength this woman has. I can feel her pain, but I never walked a sec in her shoes so I can't know her pain. To all parents, the love for your child is unconditional. You would do anything to protect them, bring joy and happiness to their life. If God loves us more than the love we have for our own children, why would we be thrown in a lake of fire for eternity? There is no hell. This beautiful woman lived through the real hell. I am so proud of you for following your inner being. Also you have a beautiful voice, you are beautiful inside and out. All that black covering couldn't keep the light that was inside from shinning.
Shelise, I am always amazed at your interview chops. You're always so on point with your empathy and compassion. You amplify other people so well that it appears effortless. This was such a charged topic at a very charged time, and the way you found the humanity and the similarities in experience is really, really extraordinary. Of course, your guest was phenomenal as always, but Shelise, you are really really talented at what you do.
as a Gay person who grew up in a Muslim country, I can say that it's really frustrating watching people hating you without knowing your personality for example, they just follow a book and they are brain washed since DAY 1
Thank you SO much for sharing this truth!!! It's extremely important - and even life saving for all women to hear, know and understand. Many years ago, I dated a Muslim man from the Mid East. I did not know very much about his religion, but he always treated me really well. However, I had a friend who dated a Muslim, and she was under continual under threat by him, daily! Her life was really terrifying! I lost contact with her, so I have no idea where she is, or if she is even alive. 💔😭
When they said "I hated this man so much I imagined doing horrible violent things to him." The first thing I thought was I was not the only one with those thoughts. I'm not "crazy". Thank you for sharing your story.
This whole story was powerful. She explained this into great deep details. It has helped me understand what happens within the Arabic culture. Well delivered message.
I have also been called an "Islamophobe" many a time. One of my best friends is muslim and a man. So that makes sense right🤔🙄 Yasmine Mohammed you are amazing and brave!! Thank you for being brave enough to tackle this topic. A lot of people are afraid to criticize the excesses of Islam because of how violent some of their extreme members can be.
When I lived in Algeria, I learned that a woman wearing a niqab was a requirement in the arranged marriage contract. Thank you for speaking up. I lived in several Islamic states during my lifetime and the Western world is allowing the unleashing of disastrous future.
@@CulturedGem that’s strange because my husband is Moroccan and we have lived in Morocco and very few women wear it there. I actually wanted to do so, but my husband was against it. Most North African countries follow the Maliki madhab and in that madhab, it is considered to be extremism.
Girl, you are so strong in allowing yourself to be enlightened by questioning authority, listening to your body mind and soul. And moving into the unknown which takes courage in discovering your truth. Welcome to the world of womanhood. The fight continues. I can relate to knowing that “my mother hates me” syndrome. I think mothers that can’t or choose not to love their daughters are jealous (I don’t like this word I’m using it for lack of a better word) because they see the truth on your face. Something they cannot change. They see their mistakes written on our faces. They see that you are stronger and you carry courage in seeking the your truth. You chose to carry the torch! You have changed your DNA from religious madness, hate and unabashed abuse to living in truth. Creating environments of safety which your mother could not do. I have compassion for you of course but for your mom too. The best outcome is the relationship between you and your daughter. Joy!
No matter the religion, people should be able to question the religion and be critical of things we think can harm.
Religion is cancer. It kills hope and dreams and makes people gullible and vulnerable. Use your reason and your heart and don't believe stupid fairy tales. no invisible man in the sky is coming to save any of us.
What’s wild to me is, how could any religion be afraid of questions? If it’s Truth, what could questions possibly do to it???
@@Financiallyfreeauthor it makes them have to critically think for the first time maybe in their lives. it makes them uncomfortable to have their religion questioned because it feels like your questioning them. its a never ending cycle almost. its almost like if you dont agree with them you’re wrong.
Agreed!!!

Seeing it a block away from home, while everyone else is wearing summer clothes because it's fucking hot here, it was shocking. It's not like I haven't seen other Muslim people here, women with headscarves, with legging underneath their skirts. At least they were seeing! At least they had colors.

They feel so entitled to react with violence… I’m sorry Islam is radical. I don’t believe all Muslims are violent and murderous. I do believe a great number of them “understand” that others are.
Those boys are the same people that don't know a thing about our religion. They didnt act that way bc they were offended, they acted that way because they were embarrassed that they didn't know the first thing about islam so couldn't answer you. If you approach people with knowledge, you'll see we get immensely happy when someone approaches us with questions about isla. A someone who only became muslim about 5-6 years ago, i was one of those asking questions about islam and thank god i found people who wee happy too teach me which i then teach to others. Pls be aware that majority of people that call themself muslim, ae not actually muslim, and simply come from a culture in which islam had an influence on hundreds of years ago. Seems that Yasmine suffered a mother who embraced religion over being a good parent. No matter what religion, addiction, ideology or personality disorder (since they all work the same way) that happens with, it's so harmful and damaging to children and often typically especially young women and girls. So glad Yasmine got away with her daughter. And she had the wisdom to figure out what kind of mother she wanted to be for her daughter. She had so much to work through and overcome. Very much appreciate her bravery for speaking up and sharing her story and perspective.
Lovely guest! ❤
There it is! This isn’t about religion at this point, most ex Muslims complain about Islam and their parents, but never mention that it’s their parents fault and culture
I applaud Shelise for doing this interview. Islam seems to be the one religion that people are often afraid to criticize or be negative about. It is often seen as being racist and intolerant. Islamophobic. Although funnily enough it's okay to talk negatively about other religions. And of course, big kudos to Yasmine.
If you want to see harsh and tough criticism of Islam Denmark and Sweden are perfect examples of places where that's happening daily in the media and parliament.
Being called Islamophobia is no big deal it’s a tactic to keep people quiet, all the more reason to shout from the rooftops of this violent oppressive CULT of women. All man made rules nothing to do with Almighty God he does not approve of such actions. Evil against women was not what the good Lord intended for women he gave us all free will Islam takes it away not God.
Completely agree, it's usually the one people avoid talking about truthfully because of all the islamophobia labels. But really it should be spoken about openly just like any other problematic group

Thank you for giving a voice to ex-muslims. They're always shouted over by both sides of any discussion about cultishness or extremism in islam.
This is a very timely interview. Having recently discovered Reddit's Ex-Muslim forum and binging on it, it's given me a whole new perspective on the religion from people who once were devotees. Yes, there are extremists in every religion. But some religious systems make extremism more likely to happen than others.
Everyone should read and support this forum!!!!!!
Yes this is so accurate. Whereas religions like Christianity and Judaism have plenty of extremist groups that harm members in the name of religion, Islam has violence written into their doctrine, which obviously makes it easier to do that stuff in the name of religion.
That forum led me out of Islam. I was questioning and probably after 5 days I denounced my shahada. But as a closest ex muslim forced hijabi woman I can’t really do much outwardly. It’s draining at times.
Yeah, Reddit is such a good neutral and reliable source of information. Do you have any cognitive functioning skills at all?
@@daisy_rhyeah Islam has violence written in our doctrine that is why the Quran says “ to kill one person is to kill all of humanity” and that the Quran never ever tells us to kill unless out of self defense. That we are not supposed to kill animals or even pick fruit off a tree unless we are truly in need of sustenance. That the Quran says “ the best among you are those who treat your wives the best” and Islam tells
The men not to make their women cry. That Quran tells men that they have no right to have a woman married without her consent( even in during the nikkah consent has to be expressed for it to be considered valid). Stop the propaganda and fear mongering.

As someone who grew up removed from any spirituality, I went through a phase in college where I was very curious about religions and studied both Christianity and Islam. Then after my BA I lived in Lebanon for 3 years, which famously hosts 18 officially recognized sects, and saw how the application of those doctrines in everyday life, if carried to a more extreme level, did nothing but divide and antagonize people. Needless to say it cured me from any further interest in religion (for added context I LOVE Lebanon and had tons of "secular" and culturally Christian/Muslim friends there, but I also experienced a lot of exclusionism and "us vs. them" mentality, as well as people with very extreme views)
I'm so glad you have begun to bring in ex-Muslims. It is so hard for non-Muslims to live in a Muslim majority country but it is even harder for Muslims to leave their religion. @emro164 I think yes fight against circumcision.
But to compare the two and say that circumcision us just as painful and damaging is purely fiction and you will only hurt your own argument by putting the two together.
One eliminates all sex pleasure,
One is done to destroy the woman and her ability to have sex.
@147salsa Same!! It's ridiculous! But everyone has time to make a damn video about Jojo Siwas' rebrand. 🙄 😒

All women across the globe should have reasonable fear of Islam. Sharia Law.
this sounds a bit like "I'm not racist, my best friend is black", so that's not the best argument;D
@@arpadczyliwampir^^^^this. It is not a bad idea to self reflect on why this would be a recurring accusation.
@@cwired9407 this is a pretty strange statement. it’s not the religion to be feared in and itself but the people who use it as a means of destruction and terror which is against what the religion stands for.
Shelise I applaud your courage at taking on this interview knowing the backlash you're sure to receive. High regards for you as a journalist and your willingness to shine a light on oppressive religions no matter how controversial.
The world should hear your story, and Governments should hear this as well. Show this video to the u.k Government, and all Governments .
I really want Biden to hear. He just can't accept this religion as something the states should have. It seems worse than Satanism.
This is truly eye opening 😳 I literally could not even IMAGINE going through something like this!!!! Thank you for sharing❤❤❤❤❤
Westerners are simply naive. They don’t have a very good grasp on their own history nor anyone else’s, therefore they tend to be Polyannas.
Not true. It would only be required if that particular potential husband required it. It isn’t required to be married.
@@kellycharif1526 Perhaps I wasn't clear in my writing. Yes, you are correct. AND I saw soooo many.
@@CulturedGem that’s strange because my husband is Moroccan and we have lived in Morocco and very few women wear it there. I actually wanted to do so, but my husband was against it. Most North African countries follow the Maliki madhab and in that madhab, it is considered to be extremism.
@@kellycharif1526 particular husbands are allowed to require their wife to wear a niqab ???? that's insane, and not okay
Heard her story on "A Little Bit Culty" a few months ago. I love her so much! Thank you for bringing her on.
Joy!
