On "My Car Story" we're in Hickory Corners MI on 4-6-21.
We're looking at a 1963 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible in Persian Sand Paint. The car comes with the factory V8 engine.
The car's Care Taker is The Gilmore Car Museum. Ken Fischang Director of Commercial Operations at the Gilmore Car Museum shares this car was donated to the museum in 2016. Ken shares the car is now used to take Visitors at the museum for rides and share what fun it is to ride in a luxurious car from 1963.
If you love cars, and want to spend a relaxing fun day in a wonderful environment with multiple buildings of cars, and historic car artifacts, I recommend a trip to the Gilmore Car Museum. You can see the info at www.GilmoreCarMuseum.org
ENJOY! - Авто та транспорт
You know it's a great car when the birds are singing !!! 👍👍
You're right :-)
Back in the day I bought a 1956 cadillac fleetwood limo... to take on fishing and hunting trips with my university friends... best build car I ever owned....
Hi Yesenia, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Lou
What an iconic design - it actually looks restrained. Well, as restrained as a 223 inch long car could look.
Beautiful Cadillac and the museum is great.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) You're welcome. Good news! Starting tomorrow Sunday, and for the next 5 Sundays, there will be 6 Episodes of the Gilmore Car Museum, which should be fun so stay tuned, Lou

Same here, as well as Carlisle, Hershey and a few other places. Maybe next year when things are more normal again....
An amazing place indeed. All you need to do is put a bathroom and kitchenette in the trunk and you'd have a two bedroom apartment. Very nice car.
Hi Bob, Happy this one is roomy enough for the whole family :-) Lou
Takes an entire weekend to clean what a beautiful car thanks for sharing
You're right, this would take some time to clean :-) You're welcome, and thanks for viewing.
This AMAZING Caddie in Persian Sand is the perfect the color.
When I was a kid in the 70's, A family friend had a 1963 Series 62 hard top and it was such a smooth riding, huge car that I thought was so awesome (because it was) but he used to say that "it has the turning radius of most battleships". LOL
I think The Gilmore Museum is going to be a must visit destination for my family and I.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Hi TCT9MM, Happy to read this is an "AMAZING Caddie" :-) Good news! Starting tomorrow there will be a 6 Part Episode on the Gilmore Car Museum, and it will feature each Sunday. Enjoy! Lou

What a beautiful car. Cadillac seemed to hang on to those fins when other cars lost them. The Gilmore museum is a great place to visit. I had the opportunity to visit it a few years ago. A must for any car enthusiast.
Hi Martin, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. Fins are FUN and glad Cadillac kept them going :-) Good news! I'll be featuring the Gilmore Car Museum on 6 Episodes each Sunday starting tomorrow, Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks for the heads up. It was great seeing the grounds of the Gilmore again. I have to admit I liked the Shell station when I was there. I am an admirer of car fins. I have a '59 Belair. If your ever in Windsor, Ontario maybe you could do a video on the old girl. The cars you choose to show are always great to see. Keep up the good work.
I made several trips to the Gilmore Museum in the 65 years I lived in Michigan. Always a amazing place. It has grown from my first trip there. I was there the summer before we moved to South Georgia.

My pleasure sharing with you dr candor, and you're welcome :-)
OMG Lou, does this bring back memories. The first car I remember my father having was a '63 Cadillac in the same color, but a Coupe De Ville. To this day my mother says it was the most beautiful my father owned. I've never done research about it, but I believe the color is "Palomino", but I'm not 100% sure. "Persian Sand" for gold was used only in '59-'60 I believe. The car idled silently. You wouldn't know it was running when you were inside it. The museum is great too!
Hi Joseph, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Fathers car. Glad to read you enjoyed quite rides in that car :-) Lou

Caddy really had the luxury look down pat, long low and mean, if you had a cad you had a fat wallet, crest and chrome detailing outstanding unusual wire wheel option, every time you open the door and fire it up you are reminded of the excellent choice you made in a vehicle! True luxury in the finest sense! Great find Lou! Love the car museum presentation! Love cars Lou, will check out Gilmore post pandemic!

Hi, Lou! I think your theme song for this episode would have to be "I've Got a Car in Kalamazoo"! LOL! If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'll just have to remember to pay a visit to this museum with such amazing and very well conceived exhibits (and be sure to try the Duesenburger and the Lincoln Link)! Why, I'd go there just to get a ride in this 1963 Cadillac! It's absolutely perfect for taking the tour! After this, the fins had one year left to go before they finally disappeared. BTW, I checked the Auto Color Library website (autocolorlibrary.com) and its copy of the 1963 Cadillac color chart lists Bahama Sand.
I imagine the museum ought to have a Checker around somewhere, since those were made in Kalamazoo, but I don't know how well I would do trying to drive a Model T! Anyway, this episode was a real treat from you and Ken, and ILL CYA in the next one!

My dad has lots of Cadillac’s. I have a friend who only drives Cadillac’s too I have him my Dads Harley Jacket he has a Harley too and fixes them and I I’ve like thirty min from kzoo! We had full service gas before the prices went up years ago !

Nice. I have a triple black 1963 Cadillac convertible and it's a beauty. Sadly, there are no more mechanics or body shops for classic cars left in Michigan. Just one or two quack places that keep your car for 2 years to do "restoration" work in the six figures. So if you own a classic car in this state, you have to have shop manual and be ready to do 100% of the work yourself!
Hi Lee, Happy to read you have a cool Cadillac too :-) Thanks for sharing that tip too, Lou

Wow! Fantastic tour! Beauty Caddy! Love the colour too, not my lucky colour (long storey)for a car but I like it. This place reminds me somewhat of the village at the Henry Ford in Dearborn. Model T driving school! That would be neat! Can I tell you how my grandfather got his licence? Ok, I’m telling you anyhow. He went for his test with my father as a passenger as my father couldn’t drive a Model T. The testing guy comes out, looks at the Model T, and says, “How did you get here?” He says “ I drove here.” The guys answer, “You pass!” ....cheers Lou!👍

Hi Andrew, You're Cousin has a sweet ride :-) Lou
got scolded in Oregon at 5:30 AM when I pumped my own because no attendant was attendant!
Hi Bob, Thank you for sharing. Lou
Quite common when I was a kid
Hi Lee, And now not seen to often, Lou
I think Oregon has altered the gas pumping law to allow self service at gas stations in rural areas of the state.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Did you take the Model T driving course?
That'd be a real hoot!!!
That would be FUN, however time did not allow it on this trip.
***It might seem like I'm complaining, but I like to think I am just stating my point of view. You have the best videos on UA-cam for classic cars!***
Filming or viewing a two-door car or a four-door car is a largely personal taste. Many hot-rodders like the 2-door models because it says that he is hip and is not hauling a child to a ballet lesson or baseball game. That might be the most popular reason for the preference. However, there are many reasons to consider using a 4-door in your videos. The main one is that they should be easier to find. They are cheaper to find because everyone wants the 2-doors. I find it hard to believe that a Ford Thunderbird will be cooler looking because it has only two doors versus four. As we find the 1950s and 1960s cars harder to find, we do not want to avoid the 1970s models because they have more doors. "I'm working on two 4-door 54' Chevys and somebody stopped me at the gas station and said "You should have bought a 2 door. I about damn smacked him." quoted by diville 472
I am not the only person with strong feelings about this, and as I said before, I have never owned a Two Door Vehicle.
Hi Jed, You're clearly a Fan of the 4 Door :-) Here are a couple for you to enjoy 1) ua-cam.com/video/YrIjyr-liMU/v-deo.html & 2) ua-cam.com/video/H3j3EqH8MqY/v-deo.html

Lou, what was the deal with the springs in the trunk? Did the owner replace them on the Cadillac?
Hi John, As I understand it the Museum will put some new springs on, they just happened to be back in the trunk, and I said, "Let's keep them in there, and share it's SPRING TIME!" :-) Lou
they were suppose to build a muscle car museum next to ford dealership display in spring 2020 but looks like they havent broken ground yet?
Thank you for sharing.
Cadillacs always had the best looking fins and looked like they were built for Royalty. 63s are special, no series 75 were made in 63.
Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car, and thanks for sharing your thoughts, Lou
I believe you are thinking of 1965, not 1963. Cadillac did offer the Series 75 in 1963 same as the rest of the lineup, but in 1965 the Series 75 on offer was a carryover with unchanged styling from 1964, made more acute by the complete makeover of the rest of the lineup. In 1963 there were 795 of the 75 limousines and 680 of the 75 sedans produced.
A beauty. But a Caddy with no A/C?
Hi Billace 90, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this one. Yep, there is no A/C. Lou
This would not have been unusual for a convertible in 1963. It was felt to be unnecessary when you could put the top down. A/C was still a pretty expensive option, maybe $500 on a car with a base price of $5,000.
Only in America!
Hi lightmarker, Happy to share this America car with you :-) Lou

Tell us about the engine in that Cadillac, Lou. Car guys want to know.
It's a BIG one :-)
I couldn't lift it by myself either :-)
Never saw a caddy with roll up windows.
No A/C in this one either. Seems to be the person wants the class with out the cash.
That manual handle was just for the vent window. The rest of the windows are power. At 6:38 you can see the four power window buttons on the door.
Frost gold?
she was orginally Matadour red
Could be.
This caddy has no a/c???
Nope.
$$??
No idea.
Too bad they don't have original equipment wheels. The wire wheels are OK, but the rest of the car appears to be a survivor in original condition.
Thanks for viewing & sharing.
