On "My Car Story" we're in the North Suburbs of IL on 4-2-21.
We're looking at a 1964 Mercury Park Lane Marauder in Black Paint and features a factory 390 CI V8 Engine.
The car's Owner is Kevin Rogers. Kevin’s had this car since 2019. He shares loves the luxury details on this car, everything works, and it goes well too.
ENJOY! - Авто та транспорт
This Merc' is outstanding. All that power, good looks, and air-conditioning, too! Kevin definitely put alot of TLC into this one. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, This one has it all :-) You're welcome, Lou
Mercury really had a hand with some of the best looking cars of the 60s. These were just the ticket for many miles of happy cruising locally or cross country.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Enjoyed reading your comment, Lou
Now thats a cool car, my friend had one in white same year I cruised many miles in that thing
Hi Florida Free State Al, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
love those oldie classics, especially the "plain jane" classic speedsters!! lol
Hi mouse, Happy to read enjoy these classics :-) Me too, Lou
One thing I like about Lou's channel is that he shows a lot of Mercurys and Buicks.
Happy to read you enjoy the selection of car on this Channel :-)
And, he seems to find a ton of holy grail Chrysler 300's.... He even had a short reach ram induction prior to the advent of the 426. Lou has an eye.
Glossy jet black and polished chrome, can’t beat it... beautiful!
Nice :-)
Nice ominous look with the all-black body, tires, and rims. The "pop-open" AC is very cool. A simple way to cut off the venting in the winter. I like how they used the top-of-the-line Park Lane model combining both comfort and power. The "personal luxury" car is the one type that I sorely miss today. Sporty and fast, yet luxurious - and of course a 2-DOOR ONLY! LOL
Hi Joseph, I thought that "pop-open" venting was very cool too :-) I enjoy reading your comment to understand the details you see, Lou
I'm with you!!! Bring'em back...
Thank you to the cars owner for allowing us to enjoy this masterpiece.

Beautiful car! And those are my all time favorite hubcaps. I'm glad the owner switched to a smaller size rim.
Hi audiobuff77, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car & the hubcaps too :-) Lou
Great looking car!
Hi Brock, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Hi, Lou! "I'm not gonna let them catch me, no, not gonna let them catch the Midnight Marauder".
The Park Lane was the top-of-the-line Mercury in two production runs, from 1958 to 1960 and from 1964 to 1968, before being succeeded by the Marquis. In between, it disappeared (as did the Montclair) because Mercury had to move downmarket after the Edsel's failure. The iconic black Mercury that Jack Lord drove during the early years of "Hawaii Five-O" was a 1968 Park Lane. You can get the full story on the series in the latest issue of Collectible Automobile magazine (June 2021).
The Marauder was introduced in 1963 as a member of the S-55 series in the fastback hardtop style like Kevin's car. In '64 and '65, there were two-door and four-door Marauder fastbacks in all the full-size series: Monterey, Montclair and Park Lane. It returned for 1969 and 1970, with the X-100 being the performance version. It came back a third time in 2003 and 2004 based on the Grand Marquis sedan. Kevin is very fortunate to have found this one, being one of 2,721 produced. Thank you both for taking all of us boys along on the Midnight Run!
Hi iswc27, "I'm not gonna let them catch me, no, not gonna let them catch the Midnight Marauder" that's catchy, that should be a song :-) The information you share is GREAT. Thank you for sharing. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
The Maurader is the high performance model and this one is as rare as hens teeth. You just don't see them as a Maurader 😍
Hi David, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou
Very nice ..... but the 390 in this one is only 300 h.p. The 427 in 4v and 8v 425 h.p. Were an option but no a.c. And only 4spd. Those are the really rare ones. Not picking this car just saying.
@@normanjones5167 thanks, I had forgotten on MAURADERS, ETC. INTERESTINGLY, I would have GLADLY settled for MEEC 390: with a 61 FKRD CONV , 1966 GALAXIE 500 XL* (4 speed) it was the venerable ***352,*& my 56 FORD FAIRLANE (*THE 292 THUNDERBIRD /4 BBL??), and my first car was a 54 FORD V8/2 Dr/3 tree,***with 57 289 V8 (*?? we never did verify which),Carter 4 BBL/Dual exh/ mild custom(!!).... Anyways, *& admittedly the 352 ‘s held up, & fair gas mileage , esp,the 66 /4 SPEED/ GALAXIE seen a lot of MILES;; and I done a lot to,that FORD).! Anyways, we did hear about the 427/ 4 speeds!!
@@normanjones5167 Norm, your 100% correct! I’ve seen a couple ‘64 Merc’s with R code 427’s and they are extremely rare and desireable. Some of these 390’s came with dealer installed tri power carb option.
390 4V’s not so rare
@@normanjones5167 The regular Marauder 390 was 300 hp, The super Marauder was 330 hp and you could certainly tell the difference. We owned a 65 supermarauder 390, much higher compression.
Makes my heart go pitter -patter. Dang wish that was setting in my garage. 😁😁😁 nice Brother.
Hi Dale, Happy to read this one gets the heart going :-) Lou
Thank you for doing your uploading in the 🌄 morning...nice, positive way to start the day 😀
Hi Peripatetic Tom, My pleasure sharing this one with you :-) Thank you for the encouraging words, and I appreciate that, Lou
Very nice Marauder! These are rare- I don’t think I have ever seen one in real life. The rear overhang/deck is about the size of a Mini.
Thanks Kevin for sharing this beauty with us. And thanks Lou for documenting it so well.
Hi Jeff King, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Good job Lou. That's not a car one normally thinks of when the word "classics" comes to mind. It's great to see these types of cars get their due respect.
Hi Mighty Lonesome, My pleasure sharing this rare treat with you :-) Lou
I’m usually a Chevy/GM guy, but I admit this one is pretty sweet.
Hi Jim, So for you it's a Mercury "Converter" :-) Lou

Another excellent episode ! I have a 2004 Marauder 56,000 on clock and a wonderful 1964 Marauder scale model in black on a shelf in my iiving room.
Beautiful car...Mercury knew how to do it right.
Thanks Lou
Hi James, Happy to read you're enjoying your cool car, and a mini version of this one too. NICE! You're welcome, Lou
They were nice handling cars due to the large rear overhang that helped balance the car (check out the profile). The CHP used them because of that. I had a '66 Monterey 390 three on the tree that made a great road car. Thanks Lou...
Hi BartRicky, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou
thats very cool my uncle bought a new mercury in 1963 it was the one the rear window angeled in and went up and down very nice cars
Hi Randy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Magnificent mercury!!! The interior was splendid and if he gets on the accelerator it turns into the black blurrrrr ;)
Hi Steel Assault, High praise :-) Lou
Wow truly a rare car. Very nice
Hi Chris, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Lou
"The Midnight Marauder" I like that name. So clean and subtle. The dog dish caps really finish off the look. The 390 was no slouch in the right car. My friend in high school had one in his 65 4 door Galaxee 500 LTD. It suprised a lot of Camaro and Monte Carlo owners in the early 90s. :) Thank you for sharing this one with us. Great car with great history. Take care.
Hi Russell, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Friends 65 Galaxie :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Man, baby moons. I used to think they looked so awful in the 70s when everybody was putting Cragars deep-dish mags or 5-spoke chrome. I think some of the recent rise in the popularity of the plain "hub cap" look is from the way the cop cars are being dressed. Enthusiasts have realized just what a classic, good look it is. Another great find, really. Never even heard of a Marauder before. Thanks again, Lou. You da man!
Hi Rudolph, Happy to read your thoughts on the "baby moons". Glad you appreciate the rarity of this car, and you're welcome, Lou
Very sweet feature Lou. Rare car - nicely preserved. The 390 was a torque monster. Reminds me of the time when me and my buddy were doing burnouts with his dad's '69 LTD 390 and snapped a motor mount. It was a long drive back to his house to inform him...
Hi Audie, Ahhhh unforgettable burnouts in Dad's LTD....good times :-) Other then the conversation about the motor mount :-( Lou
Should have put heavy duty motor mounts from the factory. Must've been a design flaw!
A serious and handsome car. Thanks Lou.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car zinc orbie. You're welcome.
@@loucostabile It was a little little early for Hawaii Five-0 but Jack Lord loved this make.
I can see why he'd like this one :-)
Wow Lou what a rare car this is! That is just a big black powerhouse! Loved the engine sound and that ride along had to be awesome! What s great owner too and you can sure tell he loves his baby! That unit gad such great lines to it and such a luxurious interior. Those baby moon hubcaps looked just right on that unit. Just a awesome old Mercury plus I love all Mercury's anyway. A great video Lou and thanks for sharing with us!

Lou,in all my years as a gear head, I have only seen 2 Marauder's,and that one is the best, thanx for the ride, cheers.
Hi Eric, I've seen two too. Here is the 1st one, enjoy! Lou ua-cam.com/video/_7REQGrqJRU/v-deo.html
@@loucostabile thanx,I like that one also.
Marauder aptly named, denotes aggressive motoring for sure, nicely detailed mill, I believe all Mercury were made in Canada. This one seems to be a mild restomod. White interior is quite flamboyant! Can see Lincoln influence in ip.Don Draper would love it! Huge trunk plenty of room for the clubs!
Hi Ron, "denotes aggressive motoring for sure" Just the way we like it :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
Great car and sound. Another unique gem.
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy this "unique gem" :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Kevin beat me to it; being able to fit TWO buddies in the trunk at the Drive-In movies.
Don't ask me how I know that!
Hi Dave, NICE! :-) Lou
I'm thinking Cheech and Chong...
My buddies just snuck in across the creek and field in the back of the theater so I know what you mean.
Thanks Kevin and Lou. There are a number of great Mercury's and the 63-64 Marauder is one of them. From front to back you can see this series of car was quite an upgrade over a similar Ford. These models look so good in black and that interior (especially in white) can not be outdone.
Hi Allen, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Wow! This was my brothers first car. He bought it used for $200. It was the car I learned to drive in. You don't see many cars with stainless trim. The car is in rough shape but the trim still shines like new. Good to see a running copy.

Hi Rusty, Happy to read the details you enjoy, and glad to take you along for the ride :-) Lou
Rare, unique, awesome car.
Supposed true story: Ralph Nader looked up "Marauder" in the dictionary: "One that lays waste to the countryside." Quite a stir at the time:)

Hi Donald, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your car. Hope I see a cool 1962 too :-) You're welcome, Lou
Oh, I like Mercury's. My uncle owned them, I remember three of his, a 59 Monterey, 65, and 72 both Park Lanes. Beautiful cars! My dad had a 66 Comet, and a 69 Montego. Another uncle had a 61 Comet. I had a couple of Cougars a 76 and 2000. My last Mercury was a 2010 Milan Premier. It was the most luxurious of all the cars I had. It was fully loaded with options. I wish they still made the Mercury line. The 2010 model year was the last. There are still some on the road, but not many. The older models like the 64 in this video are very rare. I occasionally see Ford's from back in the 60's, but not the Mercury's. This video was a real treat.

My Dad had one. Loved that car. The only way it would fit in the garage was to fit the front bumper between the studs, then the garage door would barley close. As my dad would say it was goin' machine.

Hi PlymouthDuster 225, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) I've seen two, and you can too, enjoy! Lou ua-cam.com/video/_7REQGrqJRU/v-deo.html
I had no idea there was that interim step with the AC in Mercury's in 1964. The Fords still had the "Selectaire" hanging below the dash in essentially a recirculate-only set up. This was the same... just a clever, more aesthetic dash vent diversion. The full integration with vacuum controlled baffles and fresh/recirc options became standard across all full size models in '65...
Hi Bill, Happy to read you learned something about this car. I'm learning all the time, and I find that to be so much fun, Lou
Back in 1964 my mom bought my uncles 61 mercury and a few days later my uncle showed up with a 64 special order dark green supper Marauder 4 speed with the 410 big block mercury engine and boy would it fly.

NICE !
Marauder? That's an appropriate name for this car, all right! The all-black body and black-wall tires make the car look like a panther ready to attack! This is a sister car to the Ford Galaxie 500XL, and it made quite a few appearances at stock car races during the '60s! But it couldn't hold a candle to the Hemi Plymouths and Richard Petty! The Mercury brand celebrated its Silver Anniversary in 1964; the steering wheel hub centers had XXV (25) on them. It also saw the return of the Park Lane and Montclair models after a three-year absence. The Mercury make was discontinued by the Ford Motor Company on January 4, 2011, after 72 years. (4/16/2021)

Lou, the latest issue of Collectible Automobile Magazine has a great article on the Mercury Park Lane and it mentioned these Marauders. I just read that article today and then this evening here is your video. Great timing! Love those A/C vents. They're all metal like the ones in our '66 Ford wagon were. That is a very nice car I never seen one. I think it's incredibly styled. It's one of the nicest mercurys I have ever seen. The 390 was known as slightly timid compared to some other big engines but I think properly set up and tuned they are potent. The only mercy I like more is a 66 comet gt.i believe mercury was intended to be a bridge gap line of cars between ford and Lincoln. Sometimes they were better than both
Hi Keith, High praise :-) Happy to share a car you have not seen before. Lou
I had The 64 Mercury Comet Caliente with the hipo 271 hp 289, which was a fast beautiful car, but I never saw a marauder in person. But I did have the 330 hp 390 in my 67 Cougar and am alive today because I was very lucky, it was a rocket ship in a straight line, but don't try and slide it through a corner, it was not a drifter. I never wreaked it until a guy came through a yield sign. I was sick with grief over losing that car.
