Omg! My front brakes need to be changed and i went to the dealership for a price. No thanks. I thought it was hard to do. But you showed me how simple it is. Im doing it myself and saving $$
Thanks for this Jamal. I've got about 44k miles on my '17 V and will probably have need of this video soon! Well done.
Nice video walk through Jamal. Got my brakes done in an hour with cleaning the calipers and wheels off. Thank you.
I bought that tool to spread the calipers but ended up returning it. I used a pry bar to gently pry against the old pads to retract the pistons. Sometimes the other side of the caliper wants to pop out when retracting one side, so I placed the punch I used there to take up the space and prevent that. I greased up the pads and pins, but did not grease the clip. We'll see if I have any noise. Brembos are super easy with these pins.
Great content!! Your videos has helped a lot with the recent purchase of my V3
My 04 CTS V has smaller brakes, but the same idea applies. I will be ordering the same tool you used to spread the pads. Thanks for the info!
Thanks man that helped. I used a 5/32 punch to get the pins out, perfect fit.
I actually have an LT Camaro 1LE and it has the same exact front brakes (minus the center pin). Actually ordered EBC Orange Stuff pads marketed for the ATS-V because I couldn't find pad upgrades for my Camaro. They fit perfect.
This video helped alot !!! Thank you very much Man 🙌 👍👍
Great video! Thanks
thanks for the vid
Good video.
Question for you, I changed mine out. Now, I can wiggle the pad. When I go to brake I was having a clunking sound. I was like what is that noise. Are you having that issue. Maybe, I need to check that clip that holds the break pads in.
Thanks
Congrats again on the V3, hope she provides you with thousands of smiles per gallon! Any thoughts on modding the pulley, or adding long tubes? American Racing makes a killer system for these cars.
Thanks Randy! I definitely want to mod it but having a warranty is really nice and is something I've never had before LOL
@@JamalsGarage I can understand that, out of all my cars, only 1 had an extended warranty on it. Peace of mind for a while. Enjoy it!
Hey man awesome video! May I ask why you didn’t resurface the rotors!? Looking to change my pads on my 17 CTS-V, but the shop recommends me resurfacing the rotors or buying new ones.
It definitely would be better if you did. But I've never resurfaced rotors and I figured if I had any issues, I'd just bite the bullet and buy new rotors. I haven't had any issues though since I changed the pads.
Jamal's Garage Awesome man! Thanks for hitting me back. Do you know where we can get same size rotors as OEM? I can’t find any rotors the same size for our type of car! Thanks In advance bro!
Hi Jamel how did you expand the brake pads with the ratcheting tool without removing the brake calipers? Did you leverage on the tabs/ears on the old brake pads?
Yup....That's exactly what I did!
How do you like these pads? Do they have the same bite as the OEM pads? Ceramics have always been iffy from a performance standpoint - good for brake dust but nothing else. Thoughts?
I haven't noticed a difference in the bite. Granted, I don't track the car or brake aggressively very often, but I have yet to have an issue with the power stops...
thanks
Would this method work for 2016 CTS AWD?
By any chance do you know what size rotor rings the ctsv rotors are I want to replace them but not sure since the previous owner put two piece rotors and gen 2 calipers on my Saab 9-3 xwd v6 I don’t think I want to replace the center portion since they are fine
I believe they are 390mm
NICE!! How did the pads work out for you?
They've been great! Minimal to no brake dust with no issues to report
hey bro if i buy a 1014 hypertech 160 degree thermostat for my 03 c5 vette, do i also have to buy a programmer to program it? or is the 160 themostat itself good enough? thanks in advance
No programming required for a thermostat
How similar are the newer cts v and newer the cts , im looking for a video on the cts
Should be fairly similar
Whats the name of the tool to spread the calipers. So disc brakes don't need to be replaced at the same times as the pads.
It's called a ratcheting brake piston spreader. A lot of people recommend changing the rotors with the pads, but I haven't always done that and they aren't warped or anything so I just sent it. BTW the rotors are still fine since filming this video and the brakes are working flawlessly
The wholesaler sent my pads, they are half the size of the originals! Is ther an OEM part no.??

What did you think of the pads you put on? Better grab than oem? Would you buy them again?
I do think that the oem pads brake a tiny bit better. But the brake dust the OEM pads produce is so insane that I don't mind the tiny loss of brake performance
Did you disable the rear airbags suspension before performing job?
Nope!
Ok so is it not a big deal to disable them?
@@dharlen44 to my knowledge, nothing needs to be done to the suspension on these cars when lifting or jacking them. I don't even think the car has air bag suspension
Oh ok. The one I'm going to be working on has the rear air suspension, I was curious. All good tho. Appreciate it
Brake pads would it work for the 18 model?
Yes they will!
Do you have a repair manual for this car?
I do not
Did u just slap the pads on ?
Yup
And to think I almost was gone pay the dealership 250$ for this lol
How's the dust on these brakes
Astronomically better than the OE pads. There is very little brake dust produced by these pads
@@JamalsGarage thanks putting my on today great video
