I’m not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but I do most of my own work. I’ve been doing my own brake jobs since the late 80’s and I’ve always thought I did a pretty good job.But after watching just 1 of E’s vajeos, I feel like I’ve learned more than all of those years put together. E you do an outstanding job and personally, I’ll never stop watching your brake shows. Heck I’ll watch every one you put out. ALWAYS entertaining and I’ve never not learned something.

Between Eric O., Big Clive, Adam Savage, and a few others ... I've been inspired to just get in there and do things.
I've ripped the inside of my car apart to properly wire an amplifier, power and remote lead down one side under the carpet in the wiring path, RCA cables down the other side similarly; taking apart things in the dash to replace the lights with leds (changing the color from that pale green to blues and purples, adding in resistors), learned to solder thanks to Clive, and Savage making me want to just make or modify things.
An extra special thanks to Eric O. though; because I noticed after watching so many of the videos, the process of thought in both diagnosis and the problem solving, I've found I am naturally thinking more in that line myself, better at helping others problem solve, figuring out what is wrong, paths to take, and just being more creative with things. The covid thing has gifted me more free time to pursuit those goals and now only does the accomplishments feel better, I'm actually decent at these things and thinking of a few opportunities when this is all over. My car started rough idling and I managed to figure out the EGR runners were clogged, cleaned them, and she's running like a champ ... though I don't feel confident enough to be poking at my valve adjustment; if only Avoca wasn't 17+ hours away; but tempted because Mr O is such a honest guy some of us wish we could patron his shop for all our repair needs.
Thanks a million. You may never realize or hear from most of the people you make a positive impact in their lives. From inspiration to restoring faith in humanity by being such wonderful people. I bet quite a few people tune in to the videos when they are having a crappy day and the slice of your life is enough to help and bring a little light upon the world.
Take care and best wishes to you and yours.

I appreciate that you show what an honest competent mechanic looks like. Not a flat rate speed freak, but worth every dollar a customer pays you for good reason, quality not quantity. Love your dialog/narration, FUUUUNNY and real! You're not afraid to show simple little day to day mistakes, gun set wrong direction, wrong socket, shameless plugs for free products, etc. All the little gremlins that a true professional in this trade faces. Keep up the good work and keep making these videos. Be well brother!

One last comment. After 30 years of driving I only buy OEM pads. They may be more expensive but they last twice the mileage, about 35,000 of normal driving. At least here in Long Island, NY. Aftermarket pads are just a waste of my time with excessive brake dust, squealing and less than 18,000miles. I also highly recommend the coated or painted factory rotors. Nothing like a shiny new brake job that looks all rusty in a month! Keep up with the awesome videos Eric. I truly enjoy watching.

I always used a C clamp to push the piston in. I also checked for any fluid leaking around the boots indicating that the piston was leaking. Sometimes a little ridge builds up in the cylinder and screws up the seal as it gets dragged over the ridge.
I've been using motorcycle chain lube on the battery tray slides in the motor home. I may need to give Fluid Film a try.

Don't know what it is, but somehow I enjoy watching your brake videos. Maybe is a sadistic pleasure to watch someone else goof with the brakes. But I don't see much pain, because you have all the good tools. :)

Up side of this lock down is the great driving, fewer people to annoy. The baby FF can goes in the ATV just in case. Stay safe and keep smiling.😊

Gonna have to do the rear brakes on my ATS for the first time and found your video. I've not seen your videos before (yes, I live a sheltered life) so I was looking for a bit more explanation on such things as cleaning up the the caliper grooves where the pads slide. I've not done that before on the half dozen times I've done rear brakes on other cars (and those people didn't get charged for my time, either, so they got what they paid for). I just needed a little more filling in of information with the reasons each step was being done, as redundant as it might be for you. As it is, I loved the video even though you probably guessed I didn't. Yeah, I'm easy.

Personally I don't care what topic your videos contain. I appreciate the content. As you may know, this safer at home stuff has raised cabin fever to a whole new level for many of us. Please keep SMA vids coming.

Compressing the caliper pistons. Way back in the '90's I did brakes on an 86-ish Chevy pickup with Kelsey-Hayes ABS. When I was done, the ABS light was on and the pedal was mushy. Then I found out that lots of people were having that problem. I also found out that nobody knew how to fix it, not even the Chevy dealer. Then I heard that it was because I compressed the caliper piston without opening the bleeder. That was in 1993. So ever since then I have been cracking the bleeder and using a screw driver before I even un-bolt the caliper. That's just the way I do it now. If you're not having problems doing it the way you're doing it, then great. I'm STILL going to crack the bleeder before compressing the caliper. It works for me, so I'm going to keep doing it.
