  • U2 made history as the inaugural band to perform at the Sphere in Las Vegas, a momentous gig that thrust them into the forefront of the future. However, both the venue and the band share a peculiar fate - despite their undeniable iconic status, they are also subjects of disdain for many, considered eyesores in the eyes of critics.
Over the course of their multi-decade career, U2 has delivered a barrage of hits, earned numerous awards, and explored various musical styles and genres. While maintaining a solid fanbase, the band has not been without controversy, as a significant number of music enthusiasts simply cannot warm up to them. U2, akin to Coldplay, has become a band that's "cool" to dislike. Criticism of U2 is often met with mild amusement rather than public outcry, creating a space where musicians feel comfortable expressing their dislike for the band.
One infamous episode that intensified the love-hate relationship with U2 was the automatic download of their album to everyone's phones. This move catapulted them into the realm of the most polarizing acts in music. Consequently, U2 has become a metaphorical piñata in the modern music landscape, attracting criticism from various quarters.
Among the vocal critics is punk icon Henry Rollins, frontman of Black Flag. In true punk spirit, Rollins didn't shy away from expressing his opinion about U2. He once remarked, "They have the worst rhythm section in big rock," further describing them as "the most plodding, corny rhythm section ever to fill a stadium." Rollins didn't hold back, asserting that some of U2's records are "mediocre Brian Eno records with a bad band in the way."

Their impact was the only main stream mega band to sing about Christ but with some grit.. also their entire Edge echo/chime type sound was taken on by a shit ton of bands, you hear it everywhere now (even if you don’t realize it) they changed the landscape of modern rock music. Could go on, they are a massive band, as big as it gets for 40 plus years now..how could they not have had an impact
