Is U2 the single most overrated band on the planet? They very well may be. Saying that U2 sucks is like saying that passing a cluster of kidney stones sucks. Words don't do it justice. Still, Mark and Tyler have bad things to say about U2. Very bad things.
The Edge has never even been able to play guitar. Bono seems to have a total lack of self-awareness from day one. Side note: can we please get a petition going to ban him from being in documentaries and/or continuing to be a massive hypocrite on political issues?

Go fuck yourself
I dont mind edge as a guitarist but it is truly ridiculous the way Bono bigs him up. Its like mid song he starts screaming 'THIS IS THE EDGE!!!' as if some face melting solo is about to happen and you get two notes played drenched in delay
So what's the problem with delay?
@@SaiAbitathaDUCIC Nothings wrong with delay exactly. I'm just saying that the edges guitar parts and most Solos (maybe except the fly and bullet the blue sky) are quite easy and don't deserve the reverence that nobbo gives them
@@captainfreedom7182 Now, that's the speciality of Edge!
He created his own sound. So simple, yet so melodistic and memorable. He is good in his own way and should not be compared to other legends.
His melody is so simple that someone once said, "After he played that beautiful piece, I was shocked that how did it not come to my mind before?"
@@SaiAbitathaDUCIC fuck that
@@SaiAbitathaDUCIC Well the Edge is not a great guitarist in my opinion.
They call him "The Edge" because he's just barely at the edge of being a guitar player.
Not a U2 fan, but I don't agree with your take on The Edge's playing. They only have one guitarist and are going for a massive sound. Without effects pedals that is hard to do, and when he's saying he's a "minimalist" I think he means his playing doesn't rely on highly technical guitar solos. The delayed notes and sequencing are part of the total effect - normal guitarists can't just replicate that no matter how technically good you are. It doesn't matter how simple what he is playing is - it matters how well it fits the song and achieves the sound they are going for.
exactly
Anybody who calls themselves The edge, should not be taken seriously. It's so unbelievably cringy and corny that it hurts my soul.
There's a U2 sucks FB page, go give it a like if you find it funny. Can I link this to the page?
All we mostly hear on rock stations from U2 are “The Streets Have No Name” “ I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” & “ With Or Without You” playing one of those every hour on the hour.
Phil Worley that’s why, listen to achtung baby, war, TUF, etc
Who listens to the fucking radio anymore?
They also play "Mysterious Ways," which is the one song on Achtung, Baby! I could do without.
I DON'T AGREE WITH THEM BEING OVERRATED... BUT THE FACT THE RADIO STATIONS HAVE BEEN PLAYING SAME SONGS OVER & OVER 4 YEARS.! THEY'VE REALLY WORN THEM OUT.!!! KINDA LIKE CABE &/OR SATELLITE COMPANIES DO WITH MOVIES..SICK OF SAME OLD SAME OLD LIKE A BROKEN RECORD.. FUNNY THING IS SOME OF MY FAV U2 SONGS ESPECIALLY NOW WERE HARDLY PLAYED IF AT ALL..
@@HansDester I COULDN'T AGREE MORE ! RADIO & THE SORRY D.J`s.
I've never understood how U2 has fans - I do believe they are the single most overrated band of all time. I don't get it........they are one of the reasons I believe that we live in a simulation....there's no way that a base reality with any kind of justice would allow for U2 to happen
South Park did a brilliant piece on Bono.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Just went and watched it!! 😂😂🤟🤟🤟🍻🍻
They did a piece of shit on him 😆
I hadn’t seen them play since the “ Live at Red Rock “ thing in 1984 so having nothing better to do , looked up a recent live show. I was staggered at the very beginning as the band open up then Bono finally appears on a fucking walkway a mile long - to then milk the crowd as he slowly strolls like he’s just parted the Red Sea. Honestly I know of his ego but this was bordering on Irony .
@Cherry Red I know his heart is in the right place and he is as my daughter would say “ self aware “ . Sorry about the unnecessary F word use above 👍
@@newforestpixie5297 His heart is not in the right place.
@@HansDester Dish the dirt Michael- I won’t tell anyone. I heard one accusation that The Edge nicked his playing style from Dave Fielding of The Chameleons but as for Bono I’ve nothing specifically cheeky let alone downright nasty 😁
That is bar none the most pretentious thing of all time.
Please do disturbed they are so terrible and generic
Korn would be more cringe because they directly influenced them
Man do I hate Disturbed.
the worst is when people hype up their cover of "sound of silence" which is pure garbage IMO
Have a look at Edge when he and Jack White are watching Jimmy Page strum a few chords in the documentary It Might Get Loud. His jaw is almost at his knees! Compared to Page, Edge is a rank amateur.
That's not the look at all that The Edge of Jack White had at all.
so apparently its okay when they shit on U2, but as soon as they bring up Tool or Nirvana SUDDENLY they're "not funny" and "ignorant"

U2 will be in the Philippines as part the 30th SEA Games' closing ceremony, and ALOT of millenials will get bored during their performance.
Unfortunately for you, they enjoyed it.. 😂
Damn right, not many musicians are as boring as U2. Not because of the "nuanced simplicity", that i respect to some degree, but I hate Bono's attitude and lyrics. I do not get the hype
U2 and Kiss have to be the most overrated bands of all time
Everytime I hear Kiss, I find a baby and I punch it. This is all Gene Simmons fault.
@@HansDester Kiss condoms! And a fucking Kiss CASKET!
Pink Floyd and David Bowie are even more overrated. U2 actually get trash talked by a shitload of musicians, while PF and Bowie get nothing but reverence.
@@briancrawford8751 I 100% agree on Pink Floyd. Always thought they were super boring. Time is a good song tho. Bowie rocks tho, man. I have to disagree on that haha. I’ve always like his shit.
@@Thrashman-ye4cf I wasn't saying that Bowie didn't have any good songs, but he's definitely overrated in my opinion for what he did.
Joshua tree was a boring album, and the idiots at the Grammy declared it the winner over Michael Jackson's album.
Grammy would give them an award over anyone, no matter how boring their music are. Just because it's "popular" to praise them. Grammys are as elites af.
I think Joshua Tree winning over Prince's Sign O' the Times was an even bigger crime.
I’m glad you point out that Willie Nelson is a great player. People overlook that.
Prince too. Most people don't know he could absolutely shred on a guitar and think he was just some pop singer. All they need to hear are his solos on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Creep."

@@freakybeaky1 Springsteen was a good songwriter. Almost every time someone covers one of his songs, it's worlds better. Blinded by the Light (Manfred Mann's Earth Band), Atlantic City (The Band), Cadillac Ranch (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), this list is pretty long.

@AOH Patty Claiming U2 played different styles of music is like repainting a VW Bug every 4 years and claiming it's a different type of car. Their "stylistic" changes are like sorority chicks that wear cowboy hats in country bars, cocktail dresses at cocktail parties and hippie skirts at jam band shows. U2 mastered the art of disappearing for 3-4 years and coming back with music that pretty much sounds the same as everything else they've released. With that being said if that is what their audience wants then more power to them.
I thought I was the only one that absolutely hated u2 and thought they were extremely overrated so I typed in u2 sucks And this is what I got and I am so happy lol

I remember seeing the ipod ads with "uno, dos, tres, catorce!" and even as a little kid monolingual English speaker I knew this was wrong, and that he was butchering Spanish in an incredibly low effort attempt to sound cool. I distinctly remember feeling secondhand embarrassment that he could not even count to four in Spanish and yet recorded himself doing it for millions of people. I'm a U2 fan AND I find this hilarious. I get why people don't like U2 (or even hate them). Bono can be an annoying douche. I have to agree about The Edge in "It's Gonna Get Loud". Why on earth did he choose "I Will Follow" as a demonstration for his guitar playing? It's so stupidly simple. Maybe that's the point? I'm a terrible guitarist and I stumbled into that riff when I first started playing. He could've played "Pride" or "Where The Streets Have No Name" or something else that at least involves some skill. Anyway it's uncomfortable to watch Jack White play it back with a sort of look that said "uhhh.. okay" and then unleash his riff for "Seven Nation Army". That said, the reason why U2 are great is because they are a garage band that made it despite their limitations. None of them on their own could have achieved what they've achieved. The four of them can produce an amazing sound. "Bad" live is heaven on earth. The line up for U2 has been the same since 1976 (which deserves some props). The only other band I can think of that has the exact same line up for a longer period is ZZ Top. I'm sure there's others.
They are a kitchen band.... Larry's kitchen
RIP Dusty from ZZ Top
I agree with you.
This is a type of logical fallacy which they use.
Let's take an example.
You wanna compare Messi and Ronaldo and you like Ronaldo. So you compare only those points where Ronaldo is good and Messi is not so good, while you completely ignore the points where Messi is much better than Ronaldo. In this way, you manipulate people's minds into believing what you want them to believe.
Let’s be honest tho, Jack white had no business even being in the parking lot for that occasion. Jimmy Page and…Jack white 🥴
South Park is right on Bono
U2 always bored the shit out of me.

Why are you a fan of a band if you think they no redeeming qualities?
@@nsaylor9 Because when I see them live, I can feel their energy. They are a band in the most literal way of the name. They all need the other three. And sometimes there is just something you really like, even though you know they're not the best musicians if if you observe them one by one. As a whole, as a band, they are great, in my humble opinion.

There is nothing wrong with using an effect but when you RELY on that effect on a regular basis as your "sound", that's pretty sad. Great guitar players have their sound in their HANDS: Hendrix, Page, Beck, Gallagher, Clapton, Gilmour...none of these guys rely on effects or gimmics, it's in the hands. Edge sucks, completely and totally overrated! Just like his band.
Actually, everything up through "The Unforgivable Fire" are amazing albums. Then, they went down-hill rapidly beginning with "The Joshua Tree", and became complete shit. Their political angst in the beginning was legit. But it became a joke for sure. I believe "Bono" even showed up at a "United Nations" event and was given his own seat simply labeled: "Bono". Really??!! :-(

So, not a U2 fan. My eyes glaze over whenever they come on. Their music bores the living shit out of me and their self-righteousness reminds me of David Brent from the UK Office.
I'm a bass player, guitarist, I produce music and I'm an engineer. I've played guitar for 18 years, bass for 19. Currently learning piano. I aslo have an MSc in Audio Production.
So having said that, I actually have a lot of respect for the Edge as a musician. Not for him as a person who unironically calls himself "The Edge", since nobody who doesn't self-identify as pizza should have any business naming themselves as such. What he does do though, is serve the song. I mean, I assume - I don't listen to very much U2. I'd say I've spent a lot longer hearing them than listening to them. That fact says it all though - his playing doesn't draw attention to itself. It's like magnolia paint. I'd rather play with someone who knows his gear and plays to serve the song than someone who takes every gap in the singer's performance to wail.
What I hate about U2 is that it's all magnolia paint.

They throw around terms like "experimentation" because they have no fundamental understanding of actually how to play. They are geniuses in stoking the emotions and that is why they have a huge following born out of Gen X. Seriously, how many new U2 fans are being generated?? U2 sucks. There's a special place in hell for a band whose contribution to a soundtrack can be arguably worse than Michael Hutchence's cover of The Passenger. I liked them when I was 12, mainly out of hype. But that soundtrack did introduce me to Nick Cave, Sunny Day Real Estate, and The Flaming Lips in time for high school. So there is that. @@supercriceto I listen to their music on my headphones frequently and some of it is live recordings, so no visuals and I love it.
I have not seen any U2 live concert footage on UA-cam that does justice to actually being at their concerts and there are some extremely good video clips of their concerts but of course, it just doesn't capture the vibe and energy. The other thing is, music is often tied in with memories, especially the great ones and can remind one of the different periods or occasions in one's life which adds to why someone enjoys any particular song/band. I am a musician and understand what good/great technique sounds and looks like. I have heard and seen outstanding technique that misses out on the intangible. I have heard incredible voices on some of those TV talent shows that have absolutely no connection to the intangible. There are some incredible session musicians that don't go to the highest level, individually, because they are unable to connect to the audience beyond technique. U2 have reached the highest level because of their connection to each other making the band bigger than their individual parts but it all starts with a great lead vocalist and for me Bono ticks all the boxes. Chris Cornell is another in the same vein but that's just my take on it.
It's personal.
The U2 songs that are good are absolutely killer. Some of my favorite songs happen to be U2 songs. But JUMPING JESUS ON A POGO STICK are they smug and pretentious. I recently tried to watch the Joshua Tree era doc "Outside, it's America" (of course that's what they called it) and I just fucking couldn't. 😂
Also: The songs that aren't my favorite are absolute shite.
Ya'll are missing a goldmine not selling "JACK WHITE MATTERS" T-shirts! I can play three-independent parts at the same time on a guitar or improvise music with the questions you got wrong on your basic music theory exam, OR create a vibe with the expensive stereo echo that Korg reissued especially for Dave Evans and his guitar tech Dallas Shoe. It's actually easier to make music on an acoustic guitar than to connect and tweak all that gear, then tear it down and load it into my Toyota (without which it would all just be dead weight.) I could probably get the same polyrhythms and microtonal bends with any digital delay, a well maintained tube amp and my dirty hands but like Joe Pass said, "I don't want to play anything too hard."
What do you guys think of Simple Minds?
Shite. Boring as hell.
Simple Minds are just a copy of U2...The song "Don't You" was originally planned for Billy Idol.Their best song wasn't even written by them!
@@robogod3000 Simple Minds is more New Wave though.
@@robogod3000 their best song? No no.. thats their worst song, but brought them opportunity. If you listen to every album from SM from 80 to 89 youll hear that every album has a different sound and musically its more creative. Even if you dont like a particular genre they brought, its so much more creative. Very underated while U2 is overated.
500 pedals for the Edge hahaha... I was crying 🤣😂.
U2 needs to break up or go on holiday
why did you say talking heads is a great band
they had some good songs, a good band , not great
I never liked U2.
"U2 sucks" is redundant.
yeah..where are The White Stripes today? ..and U2 will surely outlive Led Zep's legacy..which contains 10 good songs maybe?...long live The Edge and U2! ..40+ years at the top 👍..sonic architecture is not for everyone..
