Go to disk management
Right click on Raw drive - allocate drive letter
Now you'll be able to run chkdsk on that drive
@@Pranav_Mathur yea, tried that. didn't work. Currently I have three 8 bay mini-servers(non-raid) connected to computer and for some reasons some of my hard drives that I shuck(Seagate) and place in the bays read as RAW but when I connect them (daisy chain) to another external drive, they read fine. I have about 35 HD's connected to my computer now.

Thank you so much, this solved my problem! An entire partition became RAW after a data migration failure. I tried chkdsk /r and left it running the entire night and it didn't work; but I tried your method and the problem was solved in less than 5 minutes and no data was lost! Thanks again!

You outline basically a three step process. My drive was accessible and repaired again after applying only the first two!
NOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO TRY THIS: The command prompts here were exactly the same as I encountered, but some of the other prompts/screens I got were SLIGHTLY different from what's shown in this video. I assume this depends on which version of Windows you're running, but you'll figure it out.
Don't panic; this works.
My situation was:
I use Windows 7 but my external hard drive failed when using it on a Windows 10 machine; when I plugged it back into my Windows 7 laptop, the RAW error occurred on BOTH machines.
What is annoying to me is that when I did google-bing searches for fixes to this problem, all of the search results were for data recovery software and services that co$t dollar$ (or €uros or whatever your currency is). I couldn't believe that there wasn't a free fix online and that the only way to restore a readable file system on this drive was to pay to have a "professional" do it or buy a $75+ piece of software that I'd use, basically, one time.
I'm sharing this video on my Facebook and other social media in case others come across this problem and will also share it in a blog post.
When I got the error (ironically with an external drive that I was using for backing up files "in case my C drive failed") I was pretty much sick and horrified, and the steps in your video worked perfectly.

I'm not an IT person, but I do have enough computer experience to tell the difference between a working hard drive which simply has a corrupted file system (which is what the fix in this video addresses) and a hard drive that's just plain broken.
If you run these fixes and still can't access your drive, it may just be that your hard drive is broken.
Try a data recovery service.

You are a giga Chad. I just typed the force command which converted to NTFS, and it fixes everything. I didn't have to those next additional steps. I didn't remember windows has this amazing troubleshoot tool. Where recovery tools recovered only 3 files. These techniques bring back the whole things by not damaging anything. Feels like nothing happened to disk.

I just tested it and it worked to a degree. It only recovered some images. I'm still missing video files, games, etc. If you assign a letter to it, it can work, I suppose.

Wow,thanks a lot. It worked even though it said " windows found problems with the file system that could not be corrected" .after running the first chkdsk.I tried another tutorial that took quite a while but it was unable to repair it yours worked within 2 to 3 minutes.Thanks to your video I have been able to recover some video footage I shot 18 years ago.

note : this's the second time this problem happens with my 2TB Seagate external hard drive, should i consider formats it OR replace it ? it was affected with a ransmware 3 years ago btw and encrypted alot of my backup folders ( not all and i did not formatted it , just deleted the affected files )

P.S : i used Victoria software and couldn't help ( alot of errors ) and access denied and the only way to open is change the hard drive letter everytime i plugged in !!!!

Are u sure this works? My drive is corrupted and in a raw state but I use disk genius and I can see all my files are there. So will this fix the fact its a raw or nfts (hidden) file system
@@liam_amsdorf If the partition still has the letter and see the files, you have a big chance to recover them. You could make a test with another drive putting some random files in it, convert it in RAW and use this CMD line and see whats happening.
@@liam_amsdorf In my case not the storage (external drive) was the problem. It was (and still is) the USB connectors/USB port. Definetly something between motherboard and USB port caused my storage to go nuts. Still investigating.

What should I do with the win10 version? The win10 version does not have a security label in RAW.

Man…what a lifesaver…took all my tensions away in 5 minutes…tried so many things and when i contacted a data recovery centre, they said it would cost ne 17000 rupees. A scroll on net and within an hour i discovered that my problem was that my hard disc was showing raw. Then to solve this problem i came across this video and wow, my problem got solved. thank you very much! you saved my life. However, not all the folders appears in the explorer. I mean, many folders simply seems to not exist anymore, despite the used space seems to be as usually. Thank you, this fixed my problem. I did ran the chkdsk command prior watching your video, but on its own did not fix my problem. Only after the changes in the properties of the disk which you showed as well as a restart could I gain access to my drive again.
