This is honestly something I've thought about for years. And in truth the only real benefit for being famous (as a man) is unlimited access to beautiful and sexy women. But if you get married that benefit becomes a detriment because having so many gorgeous women throwing themselves at you and the temptation to cheat will destroy your marriage.
I agree!! I would chose to work hard for the rest of my life than to have fame and all that goes with. I do though feel for the children born into that world without choice 🙏🏻💫🥰
That "payroll stress story" brought back memories and sent a shiver down my spine... preparing for that bank meeting, with one day to go... it's difficult to effectively communicate that kind of pressure.
Great discussion about celebrity versus the responsibility of making payroll. In my twenties, during an intense argument with my immensely successful uncle about the value of wealth creation versus spending one's efforts to create a just society, I glibly asked him to name one socially redeeming thing he had ever done. His response was quick and confident. He said, "I create jobs." I did not appreciate it then, but by the end of my career I knew exactly what he meant.
Living in LA and i have a few famous friends and have talked to a few. The analogy that really clicked for me is when one of them told me it's like living your life like during the covid lockdowns, but you can go to exclusive events and parties sometimes. And that sounds miserable to me.
Very interesting chat. Steven had a really good answer as to why its worse to run a business than be famous. Look forward to checking out the whole thing
I appreciated his answer but really only went into depths of what a CEO has to do. A super famous person isn't just getting rich by being famous (even Kim K has to do some type of work), they need to constantly sell themselves and remain relevant and popular to keep the bag coming in, sometimes they are performing monkeys travelling around the globe with performances night after night while trying to remain cool in public and in interviews or spend half the year away from family filming for roles etc etc... If anything he's comparing a famous person who's already made it and doesn't have to worry again to a CEO still in his role? I think the battle between which is harder would be better if there was a 'Drake' type there as well as Steven. Then we could really compare.
I'm not sure of the context in which how you 2 met. However, I will say that it is somewhat ironic reading your comment because of the story he told in this very video about Justin Bieber and how a lot of famous people just want to be left alone when they're at home.
@@333angeleyes the context was that Steven invited me personally to come to he’s flat as he filmed an episode of he’s podcast. :) there was no celebrity stalking going on like Bieber don’t worry
Found your channel when you upload the short episode with PBD. Man I love your channel! Not only the production quality which is top notch but the content is amazing this one has to be my favorite so far and I’ve been binging for two days now. Great work and thank you for being out there
So true as a professional employee, we're so disconnected from the stress the ppl at the top have to keep a well oiled business. I just keep my stress free job and am totally oblivious!
I agree that when you are in the public eye, you have to filter out the constant media that could appear like "rubbish" but then I also believe everything is a reflection of you! So I believe even the "rubbish" shows you something about yourself.
I knew a guy in college who would get escorted out of a house party to his dad's shindigs with a police escort. Sometimes, he'd also be accompanied by a driver/bodyguard when going to "dangerous" places. His family halfway hid things. Hidden enough for the masses to not notice but out in the open enough for other rich people to notice. Wealth after a certain point adds danger. It's just that celebrity people have a worse danger to wealth ratio.
As a woman, I would warn girls that the Shame and scrutiny that could come from fame could include : intimate content or information you don’t know or know has been made ,going public. I bet some women are on edgeeee in the public eye.
Hey, I was in the middle of the full Steven Bartlett episode and It disappeared. Will it be back up soon? Great work Chris. We are the same age and you've brought some serious relatable sense to advancing into our 30's. like snapping out of spell! Thank you
My entrepreneur dad experienced so much pain in the responsibility of paying others, when the bank were threatening to pull the plug, but then suddenly somehow, a deal would come good and he could breathe again and pay his staff, or when bailiffs knocked on the door and he somehow managed to persuade them to back off..all this from the door of our six bed home with swimming pool where the outside perception was wow 🤩 There was a lot of heartache involved in that perceived ‘success’. People see what they want to see..
Dan Ariely wrote in his book Misbelief about trying to clear his name against conspiracy theorists. It's a losing battle. You can't logic your way out of their beliefs. He had to rely on someone he trusted to manage what people were saying about him as it was soul-crushing to read. You can't win, and like Steven says, it's best not to even enter that arena.
Listening to everyone’s opinion doesn’t work for anyone regardless of fame… this is something you learn as you age if you’re paying attention. The level of fame that leads you to being followed and recognized everywhere you go would be intolerable for me… no $ amount would ever make it worthwhile.
I'm really enjoying this Age of podcasts where we have thoughtful, curious,, thinking men discussing matters of importance. Embodying the modern-day Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. No diss intended toward remarkable women.
I'm actually looking forward to listening to the whole episode. I do feel it's a shame that everyone now seems to have resorted to these click bait titles and thumbnails on UA-cam. At NO POINT in this video was the conclusion that "Being Famous Sucks" there was a 5 second mention of Steven being in public with his girlfriend. I have started to lose respect for channels that resort to these types of tactics in order to increase views and clicks. Especially Chris Williamson as he doesn't need to do it. He is a great interviewer and has awesome guests. Let the content do the talking and use a bit more creativity to build titles and thumbnails that actually represent the content. This video could have easily been titled "What's the real cost of being famous?" or something similar.
We kill to live and live to die.If we stay here we die. We have nothing to lose. We must explore the lands beyond the ice wall and center of our Plane directly under Polaris at Magnetic North to see if Hyperborea exists and if there is a portal out of this no win situation.
Simon Cowell put it well. If you're going to put yourself out there, public interest and scrutiny comes with the territory. Fans are what makes it possible for famous or well-known people to have the incredible benefits they garner. If you don't want or can't handle the focus, do something else. It's pretty simple.
Worth considering too, in business once you have the money you can leave and lead a normal life. But once you're famous, you can't take that genie out of the bottle, your image is already known by everyone. Fame isn't something you can go back on. There are plenty of retired CEOs out there living on a beach but Justin Bieber will be mobbed for life even if he stops all performing and social media.
Steven did an excellent job educating Chris on the difference on comparing apples and oranges. This is the error of these youtube and the like host, they are ignorant to the basis of comparison and objectivity along with those who call themselves journalist and they're just talking heads.
I clicked on this video because the host is attractive (shallow, I know) but I have no idea who either of these two people are, so they can't be that famous.
Drake’s wealth is a direct cause of his fame and his relevance in the public eye, Ben Francis, on the other hand, is a business man, publicity for him is less relevant than it is for Gym Shark.
CB2 receptor agonism (activation) cools off trauma responses quite extremely. Cannabis is well known for its therapeutic and healing capabilities in PTSD.
Totally the more money you have & especially going on TV or having a public profile then you should expect the come back, it’s proof there isn’t privacy when you become like him! The Diary of a CEO………..I’m private so don’t think I could deal with it!
The thing is the ceo of a company doesn’t sell their product using their image. Drake etc depend so much on image that of course that leads to this higher level of ‘fame’. When you choose to monetise your image you can’t just switch that off.
I like Steven’s attitude to fame and fortune and follow his podcasts. However I worked in a very close and personal capacity to four incredibily rich people, two were famous, one was known but not famous and one was completely unknown. The common thread was that three of them were a*rs*holes but one was well mannered, pleasant and respectful. Reflect on this.
The irony in this video is not lost on me, Steven Bartlett does not need the income from UA-cam videos, he does it for ego. He seeks out the fame, there's no such thing as a free lunch you know this better than most, and the fame being the free lunch has a price to pay, deal with it, or avoid the 'fame' and just do your business.
In fairness Steven doesn't have to be famous if he doesn't want to.He could have lived a very low profile , not gone on dragons den etc. There are loads of successful people who have completely avoided the limelight and still managed to be successful, being famous is generally a choice.
When entrepreneurship and fame is found in the form of a podcast, UA-cam channel, or other social media nonsense. We need to have a better word than decline; to qualify and quantify our decline.

Such a good way to view this.
As a listener of the diary of a CEO, it's SUPER nice to Steve answers some questions for a change 🙂
Right? He even changed his posture to that similar of his guests!
I much prefer anonymity and rich over fame...the ability to walk freely without being mobbed is priceless
