what i did when i made this was I blended some extra watermelon juice, skimmed it, then froze the extra juice in ice cube trys and used that instead of ice cubes that way it didn't get watery after the ice melted. loved the recipe maangchi only i used vodka because i couldn't find soju near my area.

Can't get much lighter than vodka. Plus vodka goes with everything. You could always use a flavored schnapps like watermelon schnapps if you wanted it to be less potent with less alcohol. I tried this when I went to a korean restaurant in Virginia a few months ago. Out of the 3 of us at the table I ended up drinking the most and got tipsy! LOL. Was soo soo good, I can't stress how delicious it was. I loove watermelon.
Actually its so great too with water melon and sprite. instead of soju The sprite make feels like its more colder, and watermelon make sprite more feel sparkle. In the summer with these. No problem.
