Alisya Anindita Febriani yes, you can. Use a little less amount than rice syrup in the recipe because honey is sweeter than rice syrup. Good luck. www.maangchi.com/recipe/buldak
Hi Maangchi! Thank you so much for your videos :) We made fire chicken today and it was delicious! Could you make a video about making Danmuji? Thanks again!
I made this chicken for my Korean boyfriend a couple of weeks ago, and he was so impressed! He said it tasted like real Korean food and like a Korean person cooked it! Hahaha. That made me so happy! Thank you for sharing your wonderful Talent so that we can all enjoy the happiness of great food!
I have made this recipe many times and I LOVE IT. But last night I only had ground chicken. So, I decided to make a Korean fusion burrito. I made the sauce and mixed a couple of tablespoons (to taste) into the cooked ground chicken. Then I served it in flour tortillas with shredded mozzarella cheese, kimchi, lettuce, onions and air fried won ton wrapper chips. It was really good!
I had an absolutely terrible day, but I already bought the ingredients for this recipe so I decided to try it out. Eating this fantastic chicken made me so happy that I don't even care that I had to buy a new alternator. It's the most fantastic chicken ever.

Amazing how many times Maangchi responded to people asking for replacements for Rice Syrup in the comments, very impressive feat of patience. The answer is always Corn Syrup, Honey or sugar. I imagine Maple Syrup would work also, maybe even molasses.
This is the comment I was looking for, because I remember a video the other day where she said instead of rice syrup and brown sugar you can use all brown sugar.
Yup I used maple syrup as a substitute because there is no corn syrup in the UK and rice syrup is very rare to find here (besides being a bit pricey). Turns out well and I was satisfied with the taste 😊
This dish is insanely hot if you make it the way she suggests, but it is SO GOOD! I suggest using half the amount of chili flakes and gojugang if don't like food really spicy. I had left overs so the next day I made Bulkdak tacos, super yummy!!

I have made this recipe several times since discovering it less than a year ago. It is seriously addictive! The rice cakes are definitely NOT optional! Because they are sooooooo good! This was the first dish I'd ever had rice cakes in and I can't get enough of them now. In Let's Eat 3 one of the characters says it is good to eat spicy food when you are depressed or stressed because the heat makes you feel better (I'm guessing from the release of endorphins) and this dish proves that! It's super spicy (I used hot gochujang and gochugaru but they make mild) but also sweet and creamy from the cheese. It's just PERFECT! Thanks for sharing this Miss Maanchi ❤
Maangchi you would not believe this but right after you marinated the chicken, I brought my phone up to my nose and tried to smell it. 😂😂😂 OMG! That's the first time ever when I tried to smell something through the screen. That's what your food does to me.

Every time I see one of your videos, I remember how much I loved Korean food when I was there in the mid 80's. I do think I'm going to have to bur your cookbook.
I'm fascinated by how korean can eat any food right after they take it from the stove which is super hot but they eat it as if it's in normal temperature. wow amazing. and this video makes me hungry! thank you I'll try make it on weekend!
Usually I hate listening to people talk because they go on and on about something and I need to fast forward or something else. You are straight to the point and a delight to listen to
I made it today. first time I ventured out on a Korean grocery store just to buy pepper flakes and rice cakes. so yum considering it's the first time I cooked a Korean dish! thanks Maangchi!
+Maangchi dear maangchi! I have a question...I already find all of the ingredients...but I haven´t found RICE SYRUP and PEPPER PASTE....can I cook cheese buldak without them? at least a poor imitation? hehehe thank youuuu
This looks absolutely fantastic! ½ cup hot pepper flakes - “maewoon gochugaru” means very hot spicy hot pepper flakes and “deolmaewoon gochugaru” means milder. Try to buy the ones that are made with sun-dried peppers, which will be labeled as 태양초 on the package. 2 to 3 tablespoons hot pepper paste - gochujang Mixed with 6 large minced garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons minced ginger. I would fry up two large chopped onions, mix it with the chicken and serve with rice.
I just made this for my bf and I for lunch! Its so good! The mozzarella cheese really goes well with the spiciness of the sauce and the flavor of the green onion. Didn't have rice cakes (my local asian market seems to not carry them from what i saw) so I put it over white rice. Bf was surprised. He was expecting "burn your mouth off" spicy which I can't do THAT spicy anyway. This was the perfect amount of spicy I can handle, but still had a tiny sake cup worth of soy milk to help cool my mouth.
I MADE THIS! I always try the original recipe first before I start making tweaks for my own taste and I'm a bit shy about spicy foods. This was gorgeous with lots of flavours, but so spicy! I'll have to try again, but use much less of the hot pepper flakes!
Me and my 6 cousins tried this recipe and we added around 2 more tablespoons of the chili powder. The recipe is really nice and all we can say is Bultraoune.
I just made this today! can’t wait to eat it! My son and I are loving Korean food so much! Thank you for teaching me how to make Kimchi and this dish and a few others! We want to move to Korea!
I saw this recipe in the New York Times and made it the way they suggested. It was one of my favorite recipes ever. Now that I see you cooking it, I will do it your way. I’m going to make rice cakes from your other presentation and forget about using frozen ones from the grocery. You are so charming that I cannot stop watching your videos and eating other food you inspired me to try. You da best!
Maangchi ma'am, i tried following your recipe and it turned out so great!! I alter a little bit of your measurements based on my preference, like adding more pepper paste, lessening the pepper flakes because I think it will be too spicy for my family, i used corn syrup because it is much cheaper hehe, instead of using chicken breast I used chicken wings because we thought that it would be more fun to eat when deboning hehe. I also did not include cheese instead i used garlic mayo sauce because the dish is already salty thats why. But overall it turned out great! My family really really liked it, its mouth watering even just by the smell of it. Guys try it! Its a perfect dish for those who are not that good in cooking(not an insult). I think this dish will always taste good even if you kinda alter the measurement. Thank you maangchi for such a reliable and delicious recipe! Much love from Philippines!!
OMG! I made this just now for my daughter and I! It is soooo delicious! Ever since I found your channel I have been watching every day and I have been buying Korean cooking staples one at a time. It's difficult to find Korean products, most asian grocers cater more to Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese! Eventually I'll try all of your recipes! Thank you, Maangchi! Your videos are so fun to watch!
i made this for the first time today!! i remember when i first saw this video 5 years ago and i finally made it haha, it’s soooo good it’s my first time cooking a meal by myself and i’m happy it came out delicious :)
I just made this. Super easy, fast and delicious and uses all pantry staples, at least according to a Korean persons pantry lol. I didn't have to go to the store. I had to add more soy sauce and then it was perfect! I didn't have cheese so I just skipped that. My work lunch for the week was done in 15 minutes I am so happy!
One of my favorite videos on youtube. I have been cooking this since you upload the video. Every time I make buldalk I watch the video now I memorize everything you say lol. All my family members enjoy the dish even the picky eaters. I serve it with freshly made white rice. And I substitute the rice syrup with sugar. Really delicious!!!!! Thank you
We love this recipe so much! We have made it at least a dozen times since we first tried it. The cheese seems to cut the spiciness down, so it’s not super spicy. I make a vegetarian version for Meatless Monday and sub tofu/seitan for the chicken and add lots of veggies (red bell pepper, zucchini, carrots, diced onion) and it still turns out great.
Thank you for that recipe! I've already cooked it for myself once and liked it so much. Last weekend i made it for my niece, and she loved it! It's a very quick meal. I prepared the chicken in the morning, then left the house with my niece. When we came back home, i finished the process within 30 min and we enjoyed a warm, spicy and hearty meal.
At what point did you put the crack in this? I have made this for myself at least once a week for the past three weeks, and I've eaten it all. I'm addicted! This is GREAT!
Yea I mean in your everyday American households you're not gonna find both hot pepper flakes or paste so you don't know what your getting into.. Your gonna have to try em out though to see what works for you..
One of my favorites combines ghost peppers with cayenne peppers with chipotle peppers and serves it over chips. It's called "Haunted Ghost Pepper" chips and the brand is "Paqui". Hold on to your socks because they will be knocked off if you're not ready for it. Lol. And even if you are, I strongly recommend having either water or honey nearby. The first time I had them, I wasn't prepared for the intensity so I ended up drinking a literal gallon (I did the math on it myself. 128oz of water. Lol) of water to compensate. The second time, however, I was more prepared (and - very slightly - used to its power by then) so I was able to withstand it more easily so I only had to take a half a gallon. Lol.
Maangchi!! I made this yesterday and guess what??? I'm going to make it again today because it's that goooooddddd YUMMMM Thank you for the recipe! Love from Australia :D

Every time I see one of your videos, I remember how much I loved Korean food when I was there in the mid 80's. I do think I'm going to have to bur your cookbook.
French caption is up now thanks to one of my viewers' help.
I'm fascinated by how korean can eat any food right after they take it from the stove which is super hot but they eat it as if it's in normal temperature. wow amazing. and this video makes me hungry! thank you I'll try make it on weekend!
이건 진짜다 그릇에 묻은 양념에 물부어 부시는 것이 딱 우리엄마 손맛
사랑해요 망치님
Usually I hate listening to people talk because they go on and on about something and I need to fast forward or something else. You are straight to the point and a delight to listen to
Also it came out awesome, probably not as good as yours since I couldn't find rice syrup so I used honey
Now Spanish caption is available thanks to one of my viewers! Thank you very much!
graciass!!!
I made it today. first time I ventured out on a Korean grocery store just to buy pepper flakes and rice cakes. so yum considering it's the first time I cooked a Korean dish! thanks Maangchi!
+Olive Murillo Good luck with your Korean cooking!
+Maangchi thanks Maangchi! more power to you! can't wait to try your other dishes.
One of my viewers submitted Japanese caption for my Japanese viewers! Thanks a lot!
I make this ALL the time now, my husband and all our friends love it! It’s definitely become a staple in our household. Thanks for sharing!
👍
Someone submitted Vietnamese caption for this video! Thank you so much!

+Maangchi it looks amazing! But i saw no salt?
+Maangchi dear maangchi! I have a question...I already find all of the ingredients...but I haven´t found RICE SYRUP and PEPPER PASTE....can I cook cheese buldak without them? at least a poor imitation? hehehe thank youuuu
because cheese is salty u don't need to use it ^^
because cheese is salty u don't need to use it ^^
I recommend this recipe, it was soooo delicious and spicy! My mom loved it as well
This looks absolutely fantastic!
½ cup hot pepper flakes - “maewoon gochugaru” means very hot spicy hot pepper flakes and “deolmaewoon gochugaru” means milder. Try to buy the ones that are made with sun-dried peppers, which will be labeled as 태양초 on the package.
2 to 3 tablespoons hot pepper paste - gochujang
Mixed with 6 large minced garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons minced ginger.
👏
is there substitute for rice syrup? i heard sugar can be but i can't decide about the amount of sugar i should put? should i put 1/3 cup as well?
@@kk-pb3du use just 1/4 cup of sugar, since rice syrup is less sweet.
I MADE THIS! I always try the original recipe first before I start making tweaks for my own taste and I'm a bit shy about spicy foods. This was gorgeous with lots of flavours, but so spicy! I'll have to try again, but use much less of the hot pepper flakes!
"I always try the original recipe first before I start making tweaks for my own taste..." Awesome!
like it! really wanna visit korea and try all spicy dishs
Russian caption is up now thanks to our volunteer captioner!

Bultraoune.

I just made this today! can’t wait to eat it! My son and I are loving Korean food so much! Thank you for teaching me how to make Kimchi and this dish and a few others! We want to move to Korea!
Wonderful!
글쎄 편하고 미래적이긴 하지만 집값이 ...
Welcome to my cooking channel! Good luck with Korean cooking!
It sounds wonderful! You can always modify my recipes to your taste.
Indonesian caption was updated by someone!

Maangchi is such a legend for still listening to our feedback.
We love your recipes and videos ❤.
Maangchi, you are a very sweet person. I like your behavior. Keep it up. :)

i made this for the first time today!! i remember when i first saw this video 5 years ago and i finally made it haha, it’s soooo good it’s my first time cooking a meal by myself and i’m happy it came out delicious :)
Wonderful! 👏
@@Maangchi you're so sweet 🥺💚💚💚💚
I am in love with Korean cookings nowadays, it’s all because of her. Thank you 🙏 amazing.
Great job!
Thank you
Awesome!👏
We love this recipe so much! We have made it at least a dozen times since we first tried it. The cheese seems to cut the spiciness down, so it’s not super spicy. I make a vegetarian version for Meatless Monday and sub tofu/seitan for the chicken and add lots of veggies (red bell pepper, zucchini, carrots, diced onion) and it still turns out great.
Sounds great!
Wonderful!
Why is she so cute and adorable? I like her energy, makes me want to do cooking vlogs too!
"Add one pound of mozzarella cheese" Okay, I'm listening * _ *
At what point did you put the crack in this? I have made this for myself at least once a week for the past three weeks, and I've eaten it all. I'm addicted! This is GREAT!
+Katherine Hoxit haha! Thanks a lot!
this dish looks so amazing, maybe it's the bubbly cheese on top but it's making me so hungry right now :)
Does Nyanko Sensei eat Korean food too? :P
Pp Yeh
he pretty much eats anything tbh
Sensei... - _ - You're always hungry.

So glad!
Its like a lasagna from hell.
Thanks for the laugh mate!
turtle79070 hahaha true
With less carbs tho ;)
turtle79070 quite or go to police
Sindiswa Seruto even you
Hot pepper paste on top of hot pepper flakes? That sounds a bit too hot but I'd like to try :D
Yea I mean in your everyday American households you're not gonna find both hot pepper flakes or paste so you don't know what your getting into.. Your gonna have to try em out though to see what works for you..
The cheese balances out the spicyness
+jackie I'll trust that, thank you
