Thanks Buddy, I have just started carp fishing at 50 years old and between learning to tie knots, rigs and learning all the different varieties of the fishing Gear, it feels pretty overwhelming. Its teaching me patience, it's also exposing the "MR CLUMSY" and the "SPOILT CHILD" who i usually want to conceal from the outside world. I have spent, which feels like a whole day, either tangled up, caught in a tree (float, not me) calling myself abusive names under my breath, throwing my rod and storming off, wanting to jump in lake, Headbutt Trees, the usual relaxing stuff you associate with fishing. But Im still hooked? Good to see you showing mistakes and being human, no different from me, gives the beginner HOPE
I’m in the same boat! I am just re-learning to fish after 4+ decades! Even when i fished as a child, i never did any of the “work” as my older brothers handled everything and would just hand me the rod after all the setups were completed. So, essentially, I’m starting from scratch and UA-cam is my favorite teacher! I read your comment and it sums up my experience and expectations in a way that strikes right to the heart (tho, by now, you’re probably a much better angler)! 🙂
The diameter of the spool also has a lot to do with how many rotations you get on each spool per crank of the handle. The smaller diameter spool will make moe rotations in one crank than the bigger spool.
I've been using one of these for over a year now and have no problems with it. I will never go back to the old way again unless I lose it. Hint, you got to pay attention to the job and not the camera...
Wow, I found this video just in time, I ordered this from Amazon and I believe it will be delivered today. Man I learned a lot of do's and don'ts from this video. Thanks for sharing.
I have been fishing for most of my life but now, at 57, I am learning how to fish. LOL! Not sure if they have made any changes to this in the 6 years since you posted this but I received mine on Saturday along with their Viper X 2000 spinning reel plus a 150 yard spool of 20lbs Power Pro V2. I gave up on those bushing right out of the gate. Since I have never spooled a reel before, this was a dream. Now I just need to get to some water.
Very nice demonstration Eric. Here is something we need to tell you is that the extra bushings are for different spools according to the diameter of the hole. Seems that the line spools you were using are better not to use them.
I also bought this spooler. Its the absolute garbage. The fittings that come with it, ALWAYS fly off. I had hundreds of spoolers over many years and have to say that this one is the absolute worst. Never buying piscifun products again. I have since bought a much better spooler from Plusinno and absolutely love it.
I was about to buy this spooler from Amazon, which sells for AUD $58.00. After watching this video; I do not need the hassle of working with cheap Chinese plastics. My local Fishing tackle store spools my line onto the reel for me FREE of charge.
Just bought a setup today and bought 10-pound braid. Fishing for Northern Pike, bass, walleye, and hopefully a Muskie one day lol. thanks for the walkthrough yo helped a lot.
The little inserts are for spools that have small holes. Spools with 1/2" holes do not need the adapters. Ordered mine today. Not having the line twist going on a spinning reel makes it worth it. Found it on Walmart website for $20.00
I found that if I didn't either put a wrap of electric tape on the spool, or put a minimal amount of mono on first, the line would spin when it comes under tension, like when reeling in a fish. You'll see
I always wrap my spinning reel spools with electrical tap. On these Daiwa's they have a rubber insert in the middle that gives the line something to grip on.
Piscifun upgraded the spooler and eliminated the spool inserts. It works phenomenally. I have spooled dozens of reels of all sizes and types using spools of all sizes and never had an issue. They have also included an upgrade to reverse the process and remove line from the reel to a spool if you want to save it or if you overfilled the reel a bit.
Great video...Did enjoy the real life aspect; watching the tool blow up...and show it has a learning curve. I like the spooler concept for spinning reels... Berkley has a new spooler that looks great for baitcasters.. by the way...thanks for not dropping Eff bombs when the going got tough. I like being able to watch these blog with my kids
Hey Eric, if you look at the picture From Piscifun (link you provided) the size spool you had problems with is in the picture and they are Not using the bushings. Those are for smaller diameter hole spools. Your problem was that you did not have it tightened down enough. Try that and you will have better success. Thanks Dude! God Bless! ✝
fwiw. fill that huge spool with heavy mono half full and tie the braid on with an fg or whatever knot you like. its a waste of expensive braid to have the whole reel spooled when you only use 200 yrds of it. saves half the cost.
I switched up several reels this year to braid. From what I understand it is essential to start with mono, then spool braid in order to eliminate slipping from the reel. I haven't used braid since Spiderwire in 99'?? So, I assume the information is accurate.
@@luke8646 Correct if the reel is not braid-ready for spools. If the reel is classified braid-ready you do not need to lay down mono first to prevent slipping.
This tool definitely isn't necessary to spool up a reel, but it does make the process much more efficient. I also like the line tension you get when it lays the line on the spool. That helps when using braid. It doesn't dig into itself as much when you fight a fish compared to spooling up a reel by hand with out anything providing tension. But overall it just makes it a faster process in my opinion.
Understand that this is not the same as laying your school on the ground or having it on a nail or any other process this tool was designed for one reason and that was to eliminate line twist. The reason this tool works is because the spool spins at the same rate or as close to as the spool on the spinning reel spins thereby laying the line down flat and eliminating a twisting motion that would occur in any other way of applying your line to your reel .
It's funny how all the guys who need to watch videos on how to put their line on a spinning reel all of a sudden are experts trying to tell the video maker how to do it. Thanks for the video. Quite helpful.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm not too worried about the armchair experts. I don't take people who rely on the anonymity of the internet too seriously. I'll be fishing the C-1 canal in Homestead this Saturday if anyone wants to tell me to my face.
I know how to spool line on, just bc ppl landed on this vid doesn't mean we don't know what to do... Also, are either of you two pros?? bc I neva heard of ya.
I think you should have spooled the spinning reel with a mono backing instead of using 500 yards of expensive braid. That would still leave enough braid that you would never see the mono. In addition, attaching braid directly to the spool leaves too much chance for the braid to spin on the spool, even after filling the reel. But then again, the main purpose of the video was to trail the spooling device, which you accomplished.
Just ordered one, it's coming tomorrow...hope I have good luck with mine. Spooling up my Penn Battle 3 with one of those tiny spool of 30 pound braided spider wire... Any tips for working with the skinny spool of line?
This really helped, thanks. I put a thin spool of Trilene XL on the arms with the pegs the first time. Likely if I was in front of a camera, however, it would have been different :) You made things easier for me, and for that I thank you!
It's far better if you take the springs out you don't need them and just use the tensioner to clamp down on the spool,I had the same problem with the springs popping out and as much as I tried could not get them to locate without popping again, what there for I haven't got a scoobie. The ideas great but cheap design build as you can see from the vid. Hope this helps.
I've got the same type of line spooler made by a different company. That thing just did not work out for me with my baitcasters. Thanks for the video brotha 👊
That's weird. This thing spooled the baitcaster with ease. I've respooled it with braid since, and it spools it up like butter! Well... when it doesn't explode the pieces everywhere.
Thats a pretty neat gadget there. I do the screwdriver through the spool holding it with my feet method like you mentioned. Works ok for baitcasters but I never know if i am getting the line on tight enough.
LOL. Old vid, but good review. Been living in Boynton Beach, FL for 30 years.... still trying to catch my first snook. :( Go the spillways they said... nothing. Cast the docks in the Intracoastal they said....nothing. I'm pro as catching stingrays though. LOL
I feel you. I have a difficult time catching snook as well. The bait is beginning to show up on the beaches. Should be in full swing in June. Good time to throw the sabiki and cast net, and come away with some bait for snook in the surf.
I bought one of those and have spooled two spinning reels, and in both case, the line bunched up at the back of the spool and tangled up when casting. Not sure what I did wrong.
Man, I haven't fished in about twenty years, but if I were to fish again I'm sticking with mono, all this trouble just to be able to fish with braid. I used to just throw the spools of mono on the ground and start cranking on the reel to spool it up and never had any trouble, of course I wasn't fishing the ocean and I never needed to throw no more than 20 to 40 yards out.
Make it easy for you. Counter clock wise off the line spool. The reel spines clock wise on the reel. Not rocket science. Use backing I only use 50 to 100 yards of line after backing. That's from line counters up.
Steve Benson it's not one to one unless the spool diameter is the exact same as your reel spool diameter which isn't likely. Also the diameters of both change as line leaves one and the other gains line so there's no way to have the same diameter in practice. My mechanical engineer ass decided that I needed to build my own version of this recently. Works pretty well, but God damn I should have just ordered the $25 one 😅
These are pretty cool tools and can really save time. Yet everyone has the same issues with form and fit. They've been around for years, but neither Piscifun or their competitors have made any improvements. How about a deluxe version or just an upgraded product?
There’s a cadence you have to find. Just start reeling really slow and follow the speed of the spool as it spins. Speed up really slow and eventually you’ll get it going really fast. It took me a little bit to find it as you can see in this video.
Well it is innovative and puts the line on your spool with little to no twist as advertised. But why do you want your line put on the spool without twists? The first 100' or so off the reel doesn't stay that way. Especially after your first line break or a dozen or so casts.
I got it in one of his man cans about 3 years ago. Was the first knife custom knife he did. I retired it when I received another knife in a man can. It’s a QSP Sthenia and I like it a lot better.
looks like it could be usable but i dont think it would withstand a few years, and i have this obsession for counting GUYS , you only said it 22 times. have a great week.
I wanted as much line as I could put on there in case I get hooked up to a big tarpon. Also plan on kayaking bait out on the beach so if I paddle out 100+ yards to get past a sand bar, I'll still have plenty of line if a fish decides to take a big run.
I HAVE BEEN USING THIS THING FOR YEARS AND HONESTLY I DO NOT THINK THIS REVIEW IS VERY FAIR OR REALISTIC, i HAVE BEEN USING MINE FOR 8 YEARS OF REGULAR FISHING, AND I DON'T KNOW HOW I GOT ALONG WITH OUT ONE???
The pieces that kept popping off. Thinking a 10-32 or 1/4-20 screw with washers and a nut, would hold them in place. Keep in mind screw would have to be proper length. Should be able to find one in right length at hardware store.
Even after manually getting mine to spin with my hand turning it I can't get it to spin on its own. I start slow like in the video and line just comes off the spool. Is there an adjustment I need to make somewhere to get the clamp to spin the spool better?
There's no adjustment. You just have to find the right cadence. There's a point in this long ridiculous video where you see me find that cadence. Then you just lock in and don't try and spin it any faster.
@@FloBass I now realize mine was red and using the newer version of the product. I think it had a silver nob that loosened it up slightly. Instead of holding it horizontal, this time I held it vertical and as soon as I reeled it slow it spun for my two reels today with 0 problems. This thing is awesome!
I hope as time goes on you can break yourself of saying You Know constantly . Very annoying. Don't feel bad you are not the only one doing it. Really You Know is just a filler, instead of the old "uhhh" that was used. Your video was good and definitely worth watching.
I bought the identical one from ECOODA. Actually read the directions and filled my spinning reels and 2 offshore Penn Fathom 25's without a hitch...and WITH the flying nubs! :)
Reading the instructions is not the American way for the American fisherman. Trial and error is a far better method so that we may buy more stuff; which is the American way!
Worse expenditure I've ever made, as far as fishing gear is concerned. I've used it twice now, once for a spinning reel, the other time for a baitcaster. If you're using a standard reel filler spool, 330 yards or so, this thing is a nightmare! Tangles and snarls galore and the line constantly comes off of the side of the spool instead of spinning. Totally useless, in my opinion.

Keep up the good work and can't wait till your next video....Check out my channel & latest videos too, Tight Lines & Thanks, USCG Captain Scott Manning, US Army - Veteran
Pretty awesome tool. The price varies on this thing from week to week. I picked it up during a lightning deal for $25. Can't beat that with a stick!
Good to know! I also just grabbed it for the same price on a Lightning Deal 6 years later 😂

No twist. Probably not going to fit a 1/2 lb spool.

Five inch spools don't fit on that model, as I found out this afternoon. Disappointed in that.
I gather it doesn't matter which way the line comes off the spool to start?
I haven’t seen a difference for a spinning reel with this, but for a baitcaster you want the line to come off the top of the spool.

It can if it doesn't come off the spool and onto your reel correctly
You know, I think you're onto something.
Haha lol you know, thats funny!!
I bought the identical one from ECOODA. Actually read the directions and filled my spinning reels and 2 offshore Penn Fathom 25's without a hitch...and WITH the flying nubs! :)
I need one of these ✌️🎣👍
You have to much line on there
from what i can see
i think i will stick to what works the old fashion way
You didn't see my smiling face. Cool video
I see everything
Dam Bro 700 subs time for another double give away ! nice work !
Thanks home slice. Yeah gotta do another double giveaway... Not a bad problem to have.
Reading the instructions is not the American way for the American fisherman. Trial and error is a far better method so that we may buy more stuff; which is the American way!
Heck yeah! Murica! There's no time to read the instructions when you have a beer in one hand and a shotgun in the other.
Maybe a little operator error. Lol.
Absolutely a lot of operator error. The instructions were on the back of the package that I failed to look at.
tightly is a word
Worse expenditure I've ever made, as far as fishing gear is concerned. I've used it twice now, once for a spinning reel, the other time for a baitcaster. If you're using a standard reel filler spool, 330 yards or so, this thing is a nightmare! Tangles and snarls galore and the line constantly comes off of the side of the spool instead of spinning. Totally useless, in my opinion.
Starting with braid? You got big ones
Hold vertical
That's why u should always read instructions
New Subscriber !!!! Awesome & Informative Video !!!! It's great to see videos showing the daily grind of hunters & anglers from blinds to casting bait nets. Got a add for this while watching the vid😂😂😂😂
Do you remember the name of the company? I need to report it.
"Main Doohickey" thingies are always good to have. LOL!!
I recommend this Doohickey to anyone who fishes.
Funny video!
💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
You can buy a knock off on Ebay for less than half the price.
If you can see me now I am more than smiling right now. lol
I love it when people smile!
Never needed one. I just drop the spool in a open drawer and away I go. Never had a problem doing it that way.
Pisci the c is silent. I’m pretty sure like the astrological sign.
Badass
Put a little light glue on the spool to hold the plastic thingies until you get it all clamped down.
cool vid
