- It's pretty much as the title says! A dog person lives with a cat for 2 weeks! I'm the dog person, and as a dog person I often ask 'why do people like cats?' and 'What is a cat person?' Will my two weeks living with a cat turn me into a cat lover?
The war between cat people vs dog people has gone on for too long and it's time to weigh in and answer once and for all which is best!

This video is intended for entertainment and comedy.
It takes away from the fun of the video a little to spell it out but just wanted to cover a few things.
The owners told me the cat was allowed milk as a treat in small doses
The owners told me the cat was so laid back there was no way it would react to a cucumber and thus would be funny
The owners said they once saw their cat get into one of their bowls of ice cream and not react, therefore knew it wouldn’t get brain freeze
Of course people can like both dogs and cats
@Robert Pedersen Can concur, Maine Coons are confirmed cat-dogs :D
@Robert Pedersen Or a cat-dog, Shiba Inu
Btw, proper grammar would be that a Main Coon would be a dog-cat, not cat-dog (ik this wasn't at all necessary to say this but-)
Or a dog-cat, a Chihuahua.
The cucumber thing... My cat reacted the same way like Poupin
She knew you wanted her to do something.
When a cat "glares" at you it's actually comfortable. Closed or half closed eyes signifies they feel safe around you. Wide open eyes suggest fear or other any heightened specfiic attention.
When a cat glares at me I am uncomfortable 👀
When my cats "glares" at me I think she's reading my mind and judging me
Feeling the need to add to this.... The form of the eyes is only part of the body language... In this video, because the cats body was relaxed, tail laying on the couch, fur flat to the body, the narrowed eyes were a sign of comfort and contentedness. If the eyes had been narrowed, but the fur was raised and the tip of the tail was twitching or swishing from side to side, that would have been a sign of aggression or, at the very least, that the cat was uncomfortable around this gentleman. In this latter scenario, narrowing the eyes reduces the amount of light being registered, making it easier for the cat to catch small details and subtle movements within it's surroundings and from the thing he is uncertain about.
@@dickjohnson9582 Cats may glare at you because you're a stranger, they're feeling tired or they're feeling comfortable, sometimes they look at you but their mind isn't actually thinking about you so I think we don't need to take it personally with an animal 😉
So... my older cat feels safe around me... makes sense, he's a very chill cat.... Whereas my younger cat is afraid... constantly... huh
You can like both cats and dogs. Dogs just take more time and space than cats, so owning both isn’t always practical. And spending time with someone else’s cat is like trying to watch their children - there won’t be love and trust right away. Having your own cat is always different.
Yep! I didn’t like cats at all till I got one of my own. Now I love this little guy.
AGREED..I am tired of all this black and white cats versus dogs. In America about a third of the population owns BOTH. Lot of landlords will let people have cats tho more so than dogs but I am SICK of people saying you cant love BOTH..Geez. I love your comments
i grew up with two cats and three dogs. when my mom walked the dogs and pushed me in my stroller the cats would join us for one or two blocks and then circle back to our house.
Personally, i love both, but I'm a lazy couch potato so unless there is someone in the house to provide a dog with adequate daily walks - and my mom has set that bar very high, she still gives our family's dogs min 3 hrs of walks a day - I'm not going to get one. For myself I'd only get a cat. Minimal pet care effort for maximal entertainment turnout.
@@Buttercup-vw2zo- Yep.
@@1983simi - Yeah, I had a cat that liked to walk with the dog and I. When the three of us walked by a neighbor's house, he said, "you should put your cat on a leash because she beats up my cat." That was because when he let her out, she was tethered to a stake in the front yard. So weird...
He also had a sweet beautiful husky that was chained to a doghouse in the backyard 24/7. Even in blizzards. Luckily, there was a chain link fence behind the property, so people walking their dogs and children playing at least would visit her. She loved it.
So, anyway shortly after the jerk dude confronted me, my cat came home with a bb shot in her butt.
A cat's "piss-off" eyes are actually them being content. When they really like you, they'll slowly close their eyes to say "I'm not a threat and I trust you're not either". She was cool with you almost right away! Also trying to get a cat to do anything after they've eaten is always a big No. They're full, it's time to clean up and go to sleep. Play time is for before the food. They like to hunt and kill, then eat, then clean, and sleep.
I love cats because they're generally not needy, and when they'd like affection, they will come to you and ask. I don't need a critter in my face all day, but every once and a while is nice.
In my experience, when you own a dog, they become more relaxed over time. When you own a cat, they become more affectionate over time.
Good to know because my moms cat always gives me ‘sleep with on eye open’ murder eyes
They wouldn’t turn away from you if they hated you, they turn away because they trust you wouldn’t do anything… however if they keep their eyes on you and don’t blink…. well… uh, it thinks your gonna stab it
What I love about cats is there is absolutely no pretence with them - if they don't like you, you know about it, but if they love you, that's forever 😻
Dogs don't pretend either. It's just you cant have alone time with a dog around. With cats, they give you space.
@@Katya_Lastochka I wish they did! My cat is so freaking sticky I can't even shower in peace
@@Katya_Lastochka mine follows me everywhere and cry's if i leave the room. so space whats that
@@Katya_Lastochka hahaha yea that really depends on the cat and what kind of bond you have with it, my cat is quite reluctant to give me any personal time. she is super affectionate, like i could come home past her dinner time and give her food and she will ignore the food till after she gets some love.
You're saying dogs pretend.
Dog people hate cats, cat people are okay with dogs.

It’s actually the other way around (most times) coz I always see comments like “watch your mutt or watch it die” or “dogs are disgusting monsters and all they do is shit and bark” ;-;
Not all cats are the same, it’s about the special connection! You meet that one special cat makes you adore the rest of the cat world.
Yes! I returned two other cats because they were antisocial and had no personality. But I got the right one and she has more personality than a dog more loving than a dog. And I love her despite that she's much more mischievous than the other two. But yeah the average dog is more loving than the average cat.
I’ve had one cat that just would not bond despite trying hard by my husband and I. We did find him a family with experience with his breed that he did beautifully with and he had many happy years. Our current street rescue quickly took to us and seems to have certain activities he assigned to each member of the family. I’m the food dispenser, and quiet screened in porch time spender, he sleeps at my feet fairly often. My husband is the take me on walks person and will usually go to his harness and lead when my husband gets home from work at night and tap on it for his walk. My 9 year old is the play person. It’s not that the rest us don’t do these things he just has preferences and we usually agree to go along with them if possible and it makes life with him so much fun because he’s in his element.
My kitty loved me right away. We’ve been best friends ever since. It took her more time to warm up to my dog, though. But they became great friends. They’d play together and sleep together. The cat, who was a kitten at the time, would follow the dog around, and he taught her how to act. So she learned to be a well behaved cat!
@@freddyr439 "average dog is more loving than average cat" is not true. Cats and dogs are different species so they act differently but cats are as loving as dogs, some are even more affectionate than dogs, you just didn't meat them yet. Dogs are pack animals so they need leader and always serve owners as their master, which you often see as "love" but most of what they show you is following their instincts. Though some cats need more time to bond and some don't like cuddles but that's how they are. If you love an animal, you accept how they are, if you want to be adored all the time and like comparing cats to dogs, you're looking for a pleasing animal and you should just get a dog
The special connection is Temptations... At least it is with my cat. :)
A mistake that most dog people make when interacting with cats is going:
“He’s glaring at me!!”
In cat body language squinting or ‘glaring’ at someone is actually positive because it means they aren’t on guard. It’s just like the way that slow blinks are kitty air kisses, they’re saying they trust you to not attack them when they’re not looking.
Yes. It’s the “Ah, I am safe here. Relax.” expression.
And a wagging tail is not a sign of happiness, it's more "I'm going to F up the next thing I see move"
But there is a certain glare that does mean they’re mad correct me if im wrong
@@spiritsofwolves yes
So you’re saying cats have resting b**** face 😂😆
I always think it's really interesting when dog people point out how much cat stuff is around the house where a cat lives, and just seem to kind of forget the existence of the sheer amount of tools are required in dog ownership as well. 😂
This video is adorable, thank you for sharing
There's a difference between cat collectables and tools, non? Toys, perches, scratching posts, bedding, brushes and such are necessary and then there's the cat watering can, cat kitchen towels, cat bath bombs, cat magnets, cat welcome mat, cat salt & pepper shakers... lol
I think it’s more that you notice what you’re not used to. Dog stuff may be less noticeable if you see it all the time. Also there are definitely some things, like the water fountain, cat trees, cat shelves, etc. that might seem a little odd until someone explains it to you (cats like drinking from running water, cats like to have vertical territory, etc).

I've had several cats that are actually dats. Mostly cat, but some dog there as well.
@@ChelseatheCreativeFox-pc2xz the position of the ears, eyes, and tail are important indicators of a cats mood. Ears flat and pointing back, wide eyes indicate fear or surprise for example. I think your being a bit stereotypical with cats not all cats like lasers or afraid of cucumbers.
Fun fact: Cats actually aren't afraid of cucumbers.Cats are very stealthy and aware of their surroundings,so if something catches them by surprise the will freak out. Yes that is why they jump when people put cucumbers behind them.
Edit: I'm really glad you came to like the cat.
Much agreed! My Mom actually had a cat that loved to play with and nibble on cucumbers. We grew cucumbers in our garden and when we took them in she would try to steal them. Each cat is unique with quirks. I think that's one thing that draws in the cat lovers.
Especially anything the relative size and shape of prey or predators.
It took my cat all of 20 seconds to figure out where the little red dot was coming from, so she just knocked the laser itself out of my hand. Then she started bringing me the laser when she wanted me to play with her (super handy for me, as I'm bedbound). She also regards closed doors as a personal affront, and will open them. She plays fetch, amd she has a favourite stuffy (a guide dog puppy) that she's had since the week I got her as a kitten. She "kills" it and leaves it as a present for us. And then she carries it around with her and sleeps with it too. It's adorable. She's super smart, amd has no fear of people whatsoever, she's just super curious about everyone and everything. Not surprising, given her intelligence.
That cat wasn't glaring, half closed eyes and slow blinking at you means they like you. Headbutting means affection.

@@JohnRochford If Poupon isn't doing anything fun then maybe he just doesn't find life that exciting. Our cats, on the other hand, are very excited, hyper, and very loving, but that's because we raised all of them from babies except one.
Part of what I've always liked about cats is that they don't perform on demand. They do things when they feel like it and only if they feel like it. Also a cat in the same room staring at you isn't a bad thing. If the cat didn't like you he or she would hide from you.
Yep. My cat's 8 years old and is fairly lazy, but she still has moments where she will tear across the apartment like a bat out of hell and meow at walls.
Well cats may not be so exciting but there comfy personality are what us cat people love :3
This is what I love about cats now
My cat bullies me, hes to smart and evil
I don’t want an “exciting” pet, I want a calming and quietly amusing one. Cats fill that bill perfectly. A lot of dogs bark too much. Barking is painful on the ears, whereas meowing can be quite a pleasant sound.
So the possibility of your cat eating your face at night is comfy to you lol wow
Dogs have been found dead next to their owners because they stay by their sides and will starve to death cat's will eat your face the second they are hungry and your dead ass didn't bring the meow mix on time
My cats see me as a chair
cushion.... everytime I sit
down I have five cats trying
fit together on my lap. ☺️
That's so cute!!
Having a kitten is a better way to be introduced to cats if you don’t like them as they are more active and playful and more adaptable.
I must say I was amazed at Poupin’s lack of interest in boxes though. I have never known a cat that didn’t love getting in a box, the smaller the better!
My cat has absolutely no interest in boxes too. He likes sheltered places but not boxes
I gave our tiny two a kleenex box with one end opened and the plastic film removed. They played with it for HOURS! If one of them tried something the other was right behind. I kept giving them the boxes until they got too big to fit inside--sooner for big boy Murphy (what a sweetie!) than his sister Molly (as catty as a cat can be!). We laughed at those two for 15 years!
I really strongly agree on the kitten for newbies. As long as you're loving and respectful you can't offend a kitten. Cats can be very offended very easily. They never forget abuse, either. A kitten will forgive mistakes. A cat might not! My dad always said that the only bad thing about kittens is that they grow into cats. As Sugarfoot followed him all over the orchard like a dog. He went up and down ladders a lot just removing the cat from the branch he was trying to cut off. Then he'd climb back up and not know which branch it was. So back down the ladder to spot the branch again. He did it for the silly cat. 😊
i don't really agree with this not only are there way too many people who dump or give them to a shelter ones the kitten has grown up or they lost interested after the cat grew older but kittens are also a lot more work partially because they are so energetic and not really for newbies at all.
I have two cats and they both don't care at all for boxes
Cats can tell when you don’t like them and they pick up on your energy. That’s why you didn’t enjoy your time with the cat.

them just sitting in the same room with you IS, indeed, the cat saying hey! we're buds having a good time.
I've had cats that were somewhat touch averse and cats that fight over who gets to sit in my lap. PERSONALLY two of the selling points for me is that cats don't bark at the slightest noise and I don't need to take them for walkies and clean up after them. I have an automatic litterbox because cleaning up Bodily Functions is just too gross for me. but! I grew up with dogs AND cats. dogs are fine and I like them I just don't want to own one.
GET A CATT!!! Trust me, once you build a bond with cat, it's truly incomparable. You really earn their affection and love, and it makes the relationship really special. I like dogs too, but they love everyone and truth be told, as long as someone was feeding them, they can move about from house to house without any real concept of what's going on. Cats are like people - they establish relationships over time, and don't much like change. They are distrusting of new people, I think it's sweet. :) Misunderstood creatures for sure. And they're so darn cute you can just tuck them under the covers with you at night and they're literally like a stuffed animal. My cat is lying on my shoulder as I type this lol
Well said
I don't agree that dogs don't build individual relationships; they surely would be upset being passed from person to person. But it's true that cats build trust slowly, and once they love you, it's literally forever.
It depends on the breed. My labrador? Absolutely, he will love everyone and everything. My german shepherd? Not so much. When I leave for holiday hes miserable and then he follows me everywhere. Im his person. And I wouldnt recomment anyone to "steal him". It could go very wrongly.
honey, you clearly know nothing about dogs xd
Dog definitely build individual relationships. Dogs also do not do well being passed from home to home. You need to work with rescue dogs before you make statements like that. Maybe just be around dogs, something you apparently never do. Dogs also tell you when another human may be a shady character.
I am a cat person despite growing up both. I love my dog, but there's something about being chosen as opposed to choosing when it comes to pets. My cat Sophie literally followed me home one night off the streets. I had told her to go home (I thought she had an owner at the time and had lost my male cat a month ago. I didn't think I was ready for another cat.) but she followed me instead and waited for a few days until she was let in due to a storm. She ran right into my room without hesitation. Turns out she'd been abused and abandoned by her old owners at 7 years old as no one ever claim her despite all efforts made to find her home.
Long story short she decided I was her home and we're both still very happy 3 years later. Oh! For those wondering she's a Lilac Lynx Point Siamese.
It's very refreshing to see a dog person not being like "ugh I hate cats, they're just so mean".
I think it takes a particular personality be a cat or a dog person. I've got three cats, I love dogs too but I don't feel like living with a dog that is way much more needy, more energetic and more loud but I totally understand why someone would prefer a dog over a cat. Anyway, great video :)

As long as you wash your hands after cleaning their litter tray and don't put their feet in your mouth, toxoplasmosis isn't a big deal. as an animal person, I like both cats and dogs - however, I've only ever lived with cats, so I'm no dog expert.
Honestly, I have to admit, the attitude is part of the appeal of a cat for me. It's always funny when you say something and they glare at you like they understood what you said.
Dog people: "I violently hate cats!"
Cat peope: "dogs are fine but have you seen these toe beans?"
When cats look at you and do a slow blink, it's a sign of affection and trust. I call them eye kisses. Cats are very different from dogs in that they're both a predator and prey, so it takes longer to gain their trust.
💗😊💕omg! I love you! I’ve been watching your video, laughing hysterically, while hubby is watching Reno 911, also laughing at his show, ha, ha💕😊💗
You’re too kind
I like both cats and dogs I grew up with both both my cats and my dogs are very sweet last year I actually sadly lost one of my cats and I rarely ever cry. that time I was crying like a baby because he was my best friend. RIP Roo you will be very missed. Anyway figured I'd tell you that story as well.
I'm actually Sammy surprised that she shows no interest in a laser pointer most cats love trying to catch that little dot.
The many many cat lovers in the comments have already covered a lot of good material, but I wanted to add:
- the "glare" is actually the cat being comfortable & enjoying your company! squinty eyes = chillin'
- when you offered her frozen milk, she didn't want it, but she was happy you were hanging out with her! cats put their tail straight up in the air (or with a little curl at the top) when they're greeting or interacting with their favorite creatures.
- Cats are also very good at setting their own boundaries. They are often more like roommates than most dogs are
In conclusion I highly recommend that any self-declared dog people who want to try and give cats a chance should definitely look up basic cat body language before they meet one. It helps so much to have that insight into how they're feeling, especially because their body language is very different from a dog's!
I love how my cats will follow me from room to room and just hang out while I do whatever. They don't need my attention but bring this peaceful, safe energy. They're basically an introverts dream companion.
"it looks like a genuine bag of weed"
Me: oh God, what have you been smoking?
The quality of this video gave me the impression that this is a big youtube channel. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers, because holy shit you sure as hell do a good job. I like your work, John!
Thank you very much! I'd rather it that way round then 'why the hell does this guy have so many subs'
I thought the same too
At the end I was told to piss off and I will after this comment. Ugly finger. Won't be coming back.
*Just like us humans, cats have different personalities.* Most cats are sweet and loving companions who love attention. Cats easily sense when people don't like them. I've 3 cats now with different personalities. All 3 show love and like to play. Even my 12 year old cat still plays.
When I was 6 years old, we had a cat that I could dress with my dolls cloths, lay him in my kid stroller and go for a walk.😁
As a teen we had 2 cats and a dog. They got along pretty well and both cats were clingy lap-cats. Luka loved to lay on the chest like a baby and rest her head on the shoulder.
I also like bunnies, birds and many other animals, but just can't have them all! Unless you own a zoo!🤣
You had me howling with the clips of you carrying the cucumber home!
Great video man, some unreal camera shots 👏👏
The finest bit of movie making I’ve done! Carrying a cucumber. Glad you liked the video
4:04 Oh, hey, it's Cat Man Chris
and this is how you tell I'm a cat person.
Is it weird that I like both dogs and cats?
No I think that’s ok 😊
Most cat people like dogs. Most dog people just feel all high and mighty
the cat is not glaring at you... he was just comfortable.. sometimes slow blinking means i love you
This gave me a good lol
I was also obsessed with dogs growing up. My parents never let us own pets so I would research different dog breeds trying to find my favorite one (its a Newfoundland btw).
Anyway, now I have three cats. Go figure. They just kind of showed up demanding food and well, I am obsessed with them now. They are exactly like walking teddy bears, but with weird little personalities, like you said. They're great company but dogs are great too!
Cynthia Newcastle I’m fully converted. Don’t get me wrong dogs are still better but I fully want a cat now! Or 3
Cat person: Tries to enjoy cat things.
Dog people: WTF IS UP WITH ALL THE CAT SHIT YO WHAT ABOUT DOGS DOGS DOGS HUH?
Cat person: Sigh.
Cats are everywhere on the internet, Dogs are everywhere IN REAL LIFE. And I love them both. I'm just an animal person
I love how you held out the cucumber like it was a defence weapon 🤣
4:40 oh shut up. the cat isn't glaring. squinting is how they smile
It's disgusting to see how abusive he is towards the cat, trying to scare it with a cucumber or giving it a brain freeze or feeding it milk which isn't good for cats, I mean yes, maybe he doesn't know but if you are trusted with an animal then you do your fucking research.
Dog people: I hate cats
Cat People: I love animals, especially cats but all the animals.
That is the difference.
Yep. I love so many animals. I want so many different animals but I know it's a task I can't handle.
Yeah, actually, a cat choosing to be in the room with you IS showing that they you and like hanging out with you! Everyone sitting around doing the same room, doing their own thing, is social bonding time for cats.
John: Let’s try some fun cat stuff with Poupin.
Poupin: I’m not here for your entertainment.
This is worth watching just for the foot-splash money shot alone.
I agree!
That cucumber trick never works on my cat.
My dog loves cukes lol
I dint have pets growing up and one day I decided to get my cat luna and she is the best thing to happen in 2020. I have always wanted and loved dogs but KITTY FOR ME
The ultimate truth of cats is you can’t MAKE them do anything- the phrase “herding cats” is legit!
“cat food is so gross” excuse me whats the difference between dog food and cat food-
Depends on the cat food but yeah... My cats are eating natural balance and it smells and looks so tasty...
If you compare the same level of each, not much.
You walking around a neighborhood with a cucumber like that was frightening haha.
John I think you finally found your spirit animal... That rat that gets eaten by the cat I mean.
Everytime I watch dog person’s intereaction with cats I can’t stop laughing.
I finally made it into a one of your video’s, I’m official famous and cracked the internet.....my cat ‘Big Dave’ will be so proud of his dad!!!
Timbulani tell Big Dave he should be!
"I don't know what to do with it" had me laughing! lol
Hey that’s exactly how I carry my cucumbers home!
Charly Redmond Is there another way?
@@JohnRochford I thought I was watching a postal 2 gameplay
As someone who’s been around cats since birth, I think part of what throws a lot of dog people off about cats is that cats are all about parallel play. Being Alone Together. When I’m playing computer, and my cat is sitting on the desk or sleeping in the chair by it, that’s us hanging out. Even when she sleeps on my lap, that’s parallel play. I’m doing my own thing, and she’s sleeping. She just happens to be doing it on my lap.
Meanwhile, I live with dogs AND cats, and I can honestly say having both is actually the best option. They fill in all the gaps and you're surrounded by love (and food bills and poop, but mostly love).
ngl i skimmed through the entire video... but when Fatty Boom Boom came on at the end i couldn't help stay, rewinding and have it run in the background. 🤣🤣
Almost everyone who actually spends some time with cats ends up liking cats, or at the very least learns to understand cat people much better.
The Cucumber Situation : Remove the plastic wrap from the cucumber .
Cats are just too fluffy, relaxing, and great for snuggles, etc.
I think most people just like to judge one cat and make a whole sterotype over that one cat and say all cats are like this one
As a cat person all my life the number 1 rule I always say to people is that you don't pick the cat, they pick you.
Dogs don't have boundaries (Unless they chiwawas or have been trough trauma before getting fostered), they also don't respect your boundaries unless you train them to. They treat you like you are their god.
Cats on the other end have a SHIT TON of boundaries that if they are broken way too soon when you meet them, they'll hold a grudge for days if not for life. It teaches humans to be patient with them and if they chose you, you are the luckiest human alive. They act like gods.
And That is why there's dog persons and cat persons. Some have the need for attention and never ending love a dog may bring into their life so they know they are never alone. And some prefer to test their ability to please and the need to feel useful that a feline may bring.
I like cats, they're beautiful. But I wouldn't have one as a pet. It just feels like a lot of work trying to connect with them. It's like working on a relationship...dogs are unconditional, I love that. They just pour out their love.
So the problem is you lol
They pour and pour and pour and never stop I prefer cats because dogs drown me
And I wouldn't own a mutt. They yap too much their shit is disgusting and they cause unnecessary problems. Not to mention they maul children and can even kill them not a fan of dogs. Cats for the win.
My older cat doesn't do laser pointers; she prefers toys she can physically grab and maul.
So, lesson 1 is that cats do, in fact, have widely varying personalities (and, if I'm honest, levels of intelligence). My cats don't do a lot of "cat" stuff, either, but all of that is within normal bounds of cat behavior.
