    I have this guitar, the body seem to be a bit thicker than a standard Les Paul guitar also the neck feels a bit wider and chunkier. Gibson necks are different in every guitars that I've own. They changed the specs for this guitar again for 2019 which it has a PCB board with push pull options with Bursbucker 61 alnico V pickups.

    I honestly don't think anyone could do a better job of covering that solo. I'm a huge Gary Moore fan, and that was incredible

    @Marko, I appreciate your video and feedback as a mere customer and not a guitar "guru" specialist who works in selling/building/repairing guitars, lol. It's tough to know when these "experts" are being honest!
    Since you ordered from SweetWater, I'm SO glad you showed that they include the original authenticity documents and inspection photo from the Gibson factory! I've heard when you order directly from Gibson, they include authenticity documents and a photo signed by a factory Luthier, but 3rd party shops never mention anything about them being included on their websites. I was gonna wait to order directly from Gibson because SweetWater's site didn't specify, and I felt these docs are important for an LP's value. Your vid is gonna save money since I now know I'll get those Gibson docs/pics when ordering from SweetWater. Gonna buy tonight!
    LP Standard is gonna be my first guitar, and I'm STOKED to learn on it!! I'm physically disabled, so I may go with the HP (even though I'm not crazy about G-Force) since the neck is thinner, it'll be easier to reach higher notes with the new heel, etc.
    For me, I'll need really easy to play strings. Thinner is better because I have chronic pain in my hands. Got any recommendations? Any other things I should buy to get started as a first-timer?
    Thanks again!

      MashaT22 get 9 gauge Ernie Ball strings. Those feel amazingly smooth and easy to bend. I really hope you have fun with your guitar. As a personal advice you mighy want to take your guitar to a luthier as soon as you get it for it to get adjusted and octaved (it makes your guitar A LOT more playable), especially since Les Paul guitars are kinda heavy and thick. Again, have fun and never give up. I'd love to hear from yoy

    I just bought the Goldtop a few days ago myself. GIBSON is definitely back on track this year. It's the best feeling guitar I've held and played in a long time and the tone is amazing. I couldn't stand the pick guard either!! Outta there!!!!

    I played the green one at Sam Ash today and was blown away. They had the gold top too. You said it, they nailed it and I've never owned a Les Paul ever. I hate pick guards on the 2015 models they slid off the pickup rings so no holes. I'm really considering this model.

    Thanks for the review. Don't beat yourself up so much. You play great. I too just bought this Goldtop guitar. Gibson got this one right. Locking tuners, ABR bridge, 57 classic and 57 classic + pickups, speed knobs, traditional weight relief, and a 60's neck makes this a killer guitar. It's my new favorite. Looks like Gibson is starting to pay attention to quality craftsmanship. At least with this model that is.

      Thnx Dave-you're so right-Gibson FINALLY is getting its head out of its butt! 3 days into it I am happier by the minute I picked this beast up!! Enjoy your axe in good health!

    Good review - one tip, if you're not going to fill the pick guard holes - run the pick guard screws back in -that keeps them aging with the guitar - and they won't get lost that way.

    Ordered the Ocean Green one today. I played one at Sam Ash in Dallas,TX the other day and loved it. I compared this to a 2017 Les Paul Standard that was on sale also, but this thing just seemed ALOT better to me. Felt better and it just sounded better. Im hoping to have mine by Thursday after work.

    Bought a 50's tribute T gold top last year. Once I put a new set of strings on it I was amazed at how well it plays and sounds. Now? Now I may have to pony up for this 2017 classic gold top. Don't know if I should thank you or not for this videos:) That is one beautiful gold top you have.

    I've got an lp custom in white and I go back and forth on the pick guard putting it on or taking it off. Didn't Gibson have some LP's that the pick guard was magnetic or didn't have screws anyway? That one is sweet! I'd love a gold top!

    • @conorthenotoriousmcgregor3471
      @conorthenotoriousmcgregor3471 8 років тому +1

      mike s Yes, and they still have them. All of the HP models of the Les Pauls are the clip on magnetic pick guards. I personally prefer the HP models to the traditional because of the pick guards(personal preference) and the heel joint is far better on them imo than on the traditional ones

    That a really good price for a really good Gibson .
    I mean you have some models like the studios and the 50s tribute which are close to the real thing but they still not there and they are pretty cheap too.
    But the 2017 Gibson model you have seems like a real good guitar that plays great like the treditonal and the standart model. Great review thanks.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  8 років тому

      Agree 100%!! The 50s Tribute is $899 and is a really nice guitar but if I was going to buy a Gibson it would have to feel like a "real" Gibson. With this 2017 classic I think they finally understood they have to give real value for the money if they wanna stay competitive. With this guitar it's the first time I felt a Les Paul was truly a Gibson for a price I always wanted them to be ;) I personally will take this guitar any day over the standard.

    Something about this years classics that are fantastic. The green is beautiful in person by the way. Variety is the spice of life. Gibson is doing the right thing by offering up new ideas and so many options like the HP series and everything else as well. In todays world to they would never survive offering just a few models. They are a business not a charity. Although they prefer to make their customers happy, we are just that, customers, not friends..P.S. your playing is stellar and so is that gold top. Thanks for the video..

      jap5451 thnx bud. I agree 100%. I'm really glad Gibson saw the light. Great line up and fair price. Just glad we didn't lose em. I saw a green LP btw the other day at the store and you're right-in person that thing looks awesome!!!

      Marko Jankovic I had to laugh when you were complaining about the HP models and the green, I bought one and I think completely opposite to you take on them. I don't like any of the other colours in 2017. The only traditional colour I wanted was vintage burst and of course they didn't have it this year, oh well. lastly I am a hotrod guy, I have a 1965 thunderbird and a 1969 Pontiac Beaumont, chrome is good:) but I absolutely agree putting screws in a beautiful finish is retardation and can't stand that which is another reason that HP was the guitar of choice.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 років тому

      I have to admit that once I saw the green in the store up close in person I was blown away. It looks so much better in person than on the Gibson pics!! I agree-I can't do heritage cherry-too common! I LOVEEE CHROME-I have a RoadKing-it almost bankrupted me after all the chrome I put on it LOLLL!!!

      When I got mine in was bummed out when I open the case because it doesn't have any flame and thought it was a plain top. I looked at alot of guitar that were a plain top mine isn't close to that either. What it does have is a bunch of mineral grain thought it and the wood grain is heavy. I even looked at alot of guitar lumber places of a weekend and I couldn't place it. Like you said it is and odd colour that bites at you and so the top matches it whatever it is. I think I seen this video a little while ago along with a few others and that is what contributed for me buying this one. Thanks for demo

    Nice guitar, looks really sharp. l had the same issue wit my LP, the little screw that holds the pick guard to the metal anchor was touching the finish underneath, creating a small scratch. probably not a big deal, but when you invest nearly $2000, you would expect things like this to be addressed. Oh well, they might be saving that "modification' till the very last when they finally run out of ideas trying to reinvent the wheel that they have been running on for the last 60 years or so. I have to say that the some 2017 studios models are offered with ash bodies, t look pretty nice as well.

    Marko, serious question--you and I both own the 2017 Classic Goldtop, and I see that you now also own a 2018 version with mandatory P-90s. If you had to sell all of your guitars but one, and your 2017 and 2018 LP classics were your only two choices, which one would you pick?

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  6 років тому

      Damn man, thats a ruff one lol. I'd sell the P-90. Because the P-90 is great with OTHER guitars but as a stand-alone I would need to have the 57 and 57+ as it would get me "further". ;) Don't be confused, though: it'd break my heart to sell the P-90!

    Gibson just can't fix the bad area of fat binding in the curve of the cutaway. They're just painting over it or staining over it. Otherwise, looks and sounds great. Good review.

    • @Joe-mz6dc
      @Joe-mz6dc 7 років тому

      There's a wider binding on my custom shop. You're right, it does look better with binding. But it's a small issue. It doesn't affect playability or tone and it's not that visibly noticeable so for the price it's no biggie.

    • @paulduda2
      @paulduda2 7 років тому

      Joe Strummer Eric Johnson will know if the binding alters the tone ..after all he can even tell theres difference in the tone of his pedals depending on what batteries are used 😂

    • @michaelsalerno6127
      @michaelsalerno6127 7 років тому

      That's not thick binding in the cutaway, that's the maple cap under the binding, that's why it's 2 different color tones. The cutaway creates that effect.

      Yeah I know it's all a preference thing, but if I didn't have college loans to pay off I would have jumped at those other guitars. I've never really liked gold tops tbh, but to each their own

    • @heut4384
      @heut4384 7 років тому +1

      I guess, in a way, when I bought my first LP, I thought it would be my only one, so I chose a double cut-away in Honey Burst...then on my second purchase (nearly 9 years later), I selected a Desert Burst LP (w/ double locking tremelo w/ a floyd rose)...so I guess for me, at this point, the only thing I'm really missing in my line-up as a long time guitarist is a standard body LP ( a Gold Top). ....I mean, almost every guitar legend has one...so why not? but that's aside the point...I just really like golden top mixture anyway. But I hear ya, man. I'm still paying off my school loans myself...and yeah, that sucks. Well, good luck to ya, man.

      Honestly I just practiced a lot cause I love to play. I tried to learn songs I like and imitate players I like and hopefully thru that find my own style. Just play, have fun and have enthusiasm and the rest will take care of itself ;)

    What is the gold texture like? mine is a "smoother" gold and not as sparkley on my 2013 satandard. May have to get that new gold classic.
    nice shirt also!!!

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  8 років тому +1

      Cory Feggestad thnx bud. The gold is really nice. It's kinda very unique. If you put bright direct light on it, let's say from your iPhone flash, you can tell it's sparkly. But you see no sparks in regular day light and it looks really solid. The best way I can describe it is that it's like a gold satin but with a gloss finish on top. I also love the way it looks in pictures. It just is awesome all around.

      Cory Feggestad I agree. I hate the really sparkly. This one is really dope. When you first see it in the store you almost think it's satin. And then as you get closer the gloss is really cool

    Marko, thanks for video. I actually just purchased the infamous GREEN 2017 model. It's my first Gibson. I am also running the BOSS GT 100 Pedal. Do you happen to have a comprehensive video or review on that as well? I, however am running through a Vox Classic C1. Great amp, but not so sure it is the tone for me, but I am trying to figure out this pedal before I decide to make an additional purchase... Anyway. appreciate your feedback. thanks

      @THEVATICANTS  7 років тому +1

      That's awesome-congrats man!! Go to the Boss site-there's awesome patches to download from the community. They're all free and there are some patches there that are amazing!!! Make sure you use the 4 cable method, there's many videos on youtube about that. That way you are using the amp with the pedal rather than the pedal itself-best thing ever. I think the Vox is a great little amp-the GT-100 with that should be able to give you amazing sounds! Enjoy ;)

    Gorgeous instrument, Marko. But, @10:30, when you're criticizing a GC employee for not knowing anything about a strat you asked about.... I played that bit three times, and still don't know what you were asking. What kind of Strat? Sounded like "Monson...." I'm just sayin' - maybe your accent? Not that i need to defend GC. They do have their share of pillars.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  8 років тому

      CentaurusRelax314 I'm sure not all GCs are bad. I have been going to the Hollywood one for 15 years and trust me it has become really bad. I know my accent is not the easiest but I assure you there was a girl working in the guitar department who had zero clue what a Malmsteen strat was-trust me I spelled it out for her in the computer then I asked her about a Washburn N4 and she had no clue about who Nuno was when I explained it to her. This is the guitar department in a store called guitar center we're talking about here. I'm just saying. And this is not an isolated incident. Once I was there buying strings and then asked a guy in the guitar department about his opinion on the new 85/15 pick ups on a Prs-mind you they have a special wall there-and the guy had absolutely zero clue what 85/15 was. Trust me the store in Hollywood has become a 7-Eleven. I only buy from Sweetwater and this has zero to do with advertisement but these guys are like an Apple Store and know everything. I'm yet to not be able to get an answer from Sweetwater on top of that the customer service and follow up is spectacular. Not even in the same galaxy as guitar center. Let alone that I can get everything tax-free and much cheaper. On another note I have also noticed that every time I used to go to GC a lot of the gear would be just beat up. They have so much tourism come through there and everybody plugs in everything and if you're going there right now today and pick up a brand-new Les Paul classic that just came in chances are the back of it will have more belt rashes than one of my 10-year-old used instruments.

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 8 років тому +1

      Okay, okay, okay! I'm with you. I know what you mean. Seems you've had quite a bit more bad luck with them than i have, but yeah, you are right - it's not like it used to be. Not like it should be. Do you have better luck with Sam Ash?
      I understand using Sweetwater. It's unfortunate, though - i wish we could buy from the places that actually facilitate our viewing and testing the gear. But, with them often not having simple things in stock, or just being clueless about the products, it's so much easier to just order online. The way of the world.
      Where do you live? I'm in Los Feliz. We're probably neighbors. Or, you're the guy i heard when i was walking by an apartment complex yesterday.....

    Gibson and Fender are making the best guitars on the market again. They both took a dip in quality in the 80's and 90's. But, they are on top again. There is no reason to buy imports. Their prices are also reasonable...

      LOL...I guess? I mean...it's called a Les Paul "Classic"
      Would have much preferred they just reintroduced the model from the late 90's.
      Ceramic 496R/500T set, finger bleeder/top hat knobs.
      At the price they're going for, you might as well just pick up a Traditional and get a better top.

      Totally agree! I actually like the traditional. The top is much nicer but with a gold top it obviously doesn't matter. I also wouldn't buy a Standard in Goldtop since the whole point would be to SEE that nice AAA top.

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  6 років тому

    • @THEVATICANTS

      Definitely go with rolled! Necks are very similar as they are both slim profile. The Standard has asymmetrical but, personally, I refer the Classic. ;)

      @BedeLaplume 7 років тому +1

      Welcome, mon ami, I also have a classic and as you say, I can't tell the difference between a Classic ou ar a Standard.. Actually I can't even Tell the difference between the tone of a Tribute or other higher end Lespaul with the same pickups.. The Tribute have less cosmetics in terms of binding but they still look pretty good and definitely sound and feel as good for much less.. One guitar you have to get your hands on is the Godin Summit Classic Convertible.. For the price of a Lespaul Classic you get a North American made guitar with much more tonal options made with love and care and top quality wood..

    • @BedeLaplume
      @BedeLaplume 7 років тому +1

      I find lots of folks are into an ostentatious display of wealth when it comes to playing solid body electric guitars.. They are not so much concerned with the intrinsic qualities of the instrument, but they are certainly impressed by how it looks and about the bling or the flashy brand name.. I personally find that in many, many cases, it's exaggerated to pay more then 2k for a solid body instrument.. Especially when you realize how heavily automated the process is, when its comes to carving and routing.. Listen how this dude gets an awesome tone from a Tribute.. I don't think a classic or a standard could sound much better..

    Do you think is if worth to pay a bit more money and buy standard or traditional ?

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  7 років тому +1

      Misiek honestly: no. Keep in mind that with the standard you don't really get a "better" guitar but rather a different guitar. The standard and the classic ate basically the same minus the different pick ups and ironically most people prefer the classic pick ups over the standards. Me too I think the 57s are "better" than the burstbucker pros.
      The standard will generally have a nice top. If I have to take one guitar to an island it would be the classical over the standard-that being said I own both and they are both fantastic. :)

    • @THEVATICANTS
      @THEVATICANTS  8 років тому +1

      I feel the Classic has a bit of a more aggressive sound. I think they're both 57' pick ups but the Classic is open coil which I think looks better. The traditional uses a slightly "nicer" wood top but on the Gold Top finish that doesn't matter since it's solid color. To me, personally, I prefer the Classic. ;) Both great Guitars. Also the weight relief might be different. The traditional uses traditional weight relief and the Classic uses the 9-hole relief.
