Dude this is the first video of yours I've seen and it's so refreshing to hear an honest guy who is just as excited as I would be about a new guitar. Keep up the great work.
great review, nice playing. I just found one of these in Pelham Blue, it is beautiful. I like the feel of the neck and it sounds awesome through a Vox AC15.
It is an absolute beauty and top notch quality. I own one it sits proudly between a standard, several custom shops and a vintage one. It is very similar to the new original 50s P90, but with a slimmer neck and some minor details.
The nice thing with the middle pickup setting on that guitar is that it has Orange Drop capacitors installed, and the P90s are wired out-of-phase. Thus, the middle position offers a nice smoky Les Paul Standard sound, like Ellie-Mae-coming-down-the-stairs-music. The middle position on most Les Pauls with PAF's sounds muddy, especially with gain. That guitar with the selector in the middle sounds like a really nice PAF hum-bucking pickup. It's the same with my 2015 Les Paul Special.
i like those roller knobs on it, the top-hat arent easy to roll when you are playing, i think thats the modern idea of the big knobs in this guitar, roll knobs are more playable than the hat ones.. really gorgeous Les Paul, the light colour back is really nice, love classy goldtops and the middle position of p90s.
p-90's are the best. I will be buying one of these when my local guitar chain get them for sure. The Epiphone 1956 tribute is also a good option for financially conscious viewers as a decent alternative. It has a thick 1950's neck as well.
That Gold Top Les Paul Classic is one of the finer guitars ever to be manufactured by Gibson. It comes with most of the goodies already installed, including speed knobs for easier volume-swells, a lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece for better mid- and high-end frequency response, CTS audio-taper pots, a Tektoid nut, Orange Drop capacitors, and a nicer neck profile than the newer version of the Gold Top, which costs $2499 US. The only two things that I would add to this guitar are Schaller Security Strap Locks (~$15.00 at Sam Ash), and Kluson Revolution Locking Tuners with 19:1 ratio (for easier string changes, much better mid- and high-end response on the guitar, as well as extra tuning stability.) In short, I'd add the Kluson Tone Pros nickel locking tuners ($84.00 at Stew Mac) and throw those Grover "Tone Soak" tuners into the garbage--or recycle them at the dump with some aluminum cans. :) You'll be really impressed with the difference that lighter machine heads make on a Les Paul. :) NOTE: If you indeed install the Kluson Locking Tuners, be sure to drill small pilot holes and dip the mounting screws into a wax candle before screwing them in; otherwise, you might either strip the screw-heads or crack the head stock. If you install the strap locks, be sure to dip a toothpick into Elmer's Wood glue and then install the toothpick into the screw-hole, trimming it off with diagonal cutters. Then, use the screws in the kit for an extra level of security.
Marko. Fantastic review. I've been waffling back and forth and you sealed it for me. Such in depth look gave me both the sound and the look along with the rip. Really nice. I too am torn between the black and the gold...not the blue though. The blue can stay. Probably go with the gold. Since you've had for a month or so, almost two months, any other flaws you can think of since you got it? Currently I have a Fender strat but have always wanted the gibson. Always wanted the p90...therefore...thanks again.
Thank you, Mike for the nice words. Funny-I just played to all day today-just can't get enough of the damn thing-I would have never thought that these P90s would make me so happy. Still love the guitar like the day it arrived and still don't know of any other that gives you this much bang for the buck! Enjoy it in good health and make sure you post pics on my Fender and Gibson Group ;) facebook.com/groups/1907842599543182/?ref=bookmarks
On Mother’s Day I played the 2018 Classic while in Chicago, I am now very stoked that I have one on the way because the neck is not slim tapper, rather a cross between a 50’s and C shaped, not too thin, but just right. I have other older and newer LP’s, one being a Junior with P90’s which I adore.....I need another guitar like a hole in the head, but what the hell.
Another stellar review Marko! Man, its been a great year for you and guitars lol. Great to see another fine quality GoldTop in your stable. P90's are a sweet option and like you say it would make so much more sense for Gibson to offer both P90's and '57 Classic Humbucker choices for the same year. Also good to see Gibson is keeping up the quality. Loved that jam at the end. I'm sure you'll enjoy this one for many years to come. Cheers, James
Only a Gibson feels like a Gibson and the sound of p90s on a Paul just adds; it's a lovely model, I fell in love with one as it struck me from across a crowded room; and of the bare woods on this model, they just "pop"! Nice passionate review Marco!
Awesome video! In your 2017 lp classic vid you answered someone that it weighed around 9lbs? How much does this 2018 weigh and how does it feel compared to the 17 weightwise?
Thnx buds- this one feels slightly lighter but steel has the right feel to it. They're both very different in feel but both are great when on higher volume during live performance. The P-90s scream!!!!!!
It's perfect! except I wish it came with a 1950's neck...then it would be totally perfect. I see the case is made in Canada again which is a plus. I think one year fairly recently maybe 2016 or 2014? it was made outside of North America. Great review...
Question. Are those P90s set on those adapters that are used to mount P90s or mini humbuckers like the 2016 models? Would love to make this thing a Les Paul Deluxe minus the sandwich body of the 70s. Thanks
Started this review having put down a deposit on one but was a little unsure about spending that much, by halfway through I was back to the shop to throw them the rest, and here we are at the end - it's in my hands. Absolutely killer guitar, really beautiful! Thank you so much for the great review!
Just bought mine a few days ago with a Bigsby vibramate. Love love love it. Mine didn’t come with locking tuners. Would you update with kluson locking tuners. I think that’s the only thing missing with mine
Marko - How would you rate this guitar in terms of your favorites among your collection? Do you tend to "go to" this guitar frequently, or do you see it as more of a specialty guitar?
Hi Greg :) I couldn't picture my collection without it. It's rare that a day goes by where I don't touch it. My PRS is a specialty guitar but this P-90 is an every day MUST-HAVE! ;)
Thanks Marko - I'm looking to get one good all around elect. I have a lot of second tier guitars, which I have upgraded, and they sound good - but none that I really can say I love. I've played this P-90 against most of others in the under $2,500 class and I believe this will be my pick. By the way thanks for taking the time to do these thoughtful reviews. Very helpful in clarifying the issues.
Best video I have ever seen by far his love for guitars really shows through it and now I’m finding myself buying me a Gibson classic for my birthday ! yeah thanks marko
They are really stunning, love the 2018 classics but the price stings. I got a Schecter custom for half the price of a Classic. So its not a gib and no p90s but a great guitar... rant over. Thanks for cool video!
Great review again Marko ! Monster playing ! Those p 90s are definately unique sounding for sure and I agree when you say the should have made the classic for 2018 with the 2017 specs as well as a p90 version but hey what the hell I have a 2016 and a 2017 classic . Oh yea that shirt cracks me up lmao ! Keep rockin Marko
Man, those P90's! I have a beautiful LP copy with humbuckers (A B against a Gibson Standard is difficult to tell the difference) BUT... I love P90's and this could be just the machine I need ;-)
Enjoyed your demo. These actually are extraordinary guitars, especially considering the price point, and the crap Gibson has become known for. Some FYI for you. P-90s are my favorite pickups hands down! P-90s had AlniCo II magnets until 1971 when they transitioned to AlNiCo V magnets; the difference is significant, but both are great nonetheless. AlNiCo IIs are thicker and have more bottom; a bit richer harmonically: think Pete Townshend and Carlos Santana playing SG Specials in the late '60s and early '70s; Les Paul Gold Tops before the change to PAFs. AlNiCo Vs are brighter, tighter and louder. Can't go wrong with either! Enjoy your new beauty/beast!
My favorite Gibson in the last 15 years. I have the Pelham Blue one. There is a big ground plate in the control cavity that seems to tame some of the treble rolloff when the volume is turned down. Or maybe that's just my ears. Nice review!
Hello Marco, after looking and listening a few times your Review,I finally ordered this beautiful guitar in ebony,a black Beauty.Normally I play a Traditional, but this thing goes wild.Thank you very much for convince me.....she got balls!!Greetings from Baden-Baden,Germany
João Miguel Gomes Yeah with international shipping it gets tough very fast unfortunately. But maybe you can still get the guitar cheaper than buying it outside of the US.
Marko, great video, I just found this and realized I joined you FB group yesterday. By the way this is gonna be my next LP, played one Saturday and it is a superb axe.
I've had this guitar for about 9 months and though I am generally very happy with it, I sometimes struggle with the tone of the neck pickup. When switching from bridge or middle position to the neck it can sound almost like a curtain falls over the amp and the sound gets a tad bit muddy. How do you feel about it after owning it for over a year now?
Tony V I must agree! Owning this exact guitar for almost a year, I have noticed that I only tend to play on the bridge and the middle while playing with OD or distortion. The Neck pickup is indeed too muddy for my taste. When I play clean however it’s usable, though I’d prefer a less muddy neck pu ;)
@@MrFeetandfingers I ended up switching out the stock Gibson pickups to Seymour Duncan Hot P90s which are a balanced set. I'm very happy with them. They are much fuller in bass and mids without any piercing highs. Finally after almost a year of owning this guitar I feel I'm much closer to the tone I want from it and I dig the sound that comes out of all three positions.
Excellent review. Just bought a Pelham Blue version of this guitar and was very pleased with it right out of the box. Had an R6 version and this new model is better. You have a nice touch on guitar and please keep reviewing.
Very insightful video. I am Thinking about getting the classic and I also have the goldtop 50's tribute. Don't suppose you could do a bit more of a direct comparison between the two? Thanks and great video again!!!
Marko I’m glad you got a new Gibson Les Paul. I can see how happy you are with the new 🎸 . In a few months I’ll be buying one also! Great looking gUiTaR! - and gold top is the only way to gO . Have fUn!!
Just got my hands on one of these in the sale. This review pretty much swung it for me! Great guitar straight out the box, plays and sounds awesome, feels like a full fat Les Paul (mines about 9 1/2 lbs) Love it!! Thanks for a great review!!
hi marko... got mine yesterday (Dubai)... serial 865 :D.. bought if because of your homerun comment on the review and there is a certain feel and tone I really loved (clean)
Nice review. I was real excited when I saw this model in the 2018 line-up. Shame to hear about that neck profile, though. It's all personal taste, of course, but I hate those super thin necks. Guess I just need to hold out till I can afford an R6 or something.
The neck is not thin IMO. More of a nice medium. I have one and have average man hands. Not huge but average to large. I love the neck and I have a strat with a v-neck. The Classic neck is fine. Play it before judging.
Shes gorgeous! Id have grabbed this one if the Slash Anaconda USA version hadnt came out in December and i got ger yesterday in a black snakeskin case with bkack interior. They are stepping it up alot. Gibson is only dead in the eyes if the haters. This guitar gets a 99% grade!
Interestingly though, Andertons, the UKs biggest retailer couldn't shift these and ended up discounting them heavily in late 2018 as the new range Classic (with hum-buckers) shipped. I am not suggesting you are wrong, I have P90s on a Casino but the truth is most people want a full fat HB on a Gibson, not a P90. Ditto same story on the SG even though originally it had P90s - Peter Townsend had one.
i actually LIKE those straps! :) awesome axe btw. i like beefier necks. guess I'll have to wait to roll the dice 2019 but everything else is purrrrfect.
So if someone is looking for a P90 based LP Goldtop, non weight relieved with a slim tapered neck, appears 2018 is the only year? The 2019 Classic has reverted back to HBs :( Does anyone know any other year/model that would have similar specs?
I don't think so :(( It's the only mid range (if you can call it that gold top p90) you can either have to go down to a 'vintage burst' player plus (not even close to a gold top) or jump up to a reissue gold top.
I have the 2017 classic and traditional awesome guitars ... low dense mahogany alot lighter the the previous models .. I change all my bridges to Faber ABR-1 with the bswkit so much more sustain and clarity more like a real abr-1 check them out Marko
guitar obsession yes-and I was totally wrong. They're regular Grovers. In my peripheral vision it looked like they were the same like last year's model and I didn't even notice that's not the case until after the review LOL
Dude this is the first video of yours I've seen and it's so refreshing to hear an honest guy who is just as excited as I would be about a new guitar. Keep up the great work.
This video prompted me to buy one. It's been an incredible experience playing it. By far, my favorite. Thanks for the great video!
great review, nice playing. I just found one of these in Pelham Blue, it is beautiful. I like the feel of the neck and it sounds awesome through a Vox AC15.

It is very similar to the new original 50s P90, but with a slimmer neck and some minor details.
Thank you for a completely thorough review. We rarely see wiring in reviews. Gibson has finally produced a Les Paul I will consider purchasing.
I've got one of these, it is a truly gorgeous instrument!
It's the same with my 2015 Les Paul Special.
Congratulations Marko ...Great review and yes Gibson got a home run it,s wonderful. Bravo!
I ordered one. Very anxiously awaiting its arrival. Sounds great. Those P90s rock
i like those roller knobs on it, the top-hat arent easy to roll when you are playing, i think thats the modern idea of the big knobs in this guitar, roll knobs are more playable than the hat ones.. really gorgeous Les Paul, the light colour back is really nice, love classy goldtops and the middle position of p90s.
man your review videos just keep getting better and better ... thank you for this Marko! \m/
usbzoso thank you for the kind words buddy I love doing them for you guys :-)
So, would you say the guitar is stunning, Marko? ;-)
Funny
Beautiful guitar. I have not been a fan of Gibson guitars for the last 10 years but I am probably going to buy the classic in black next year.
spot mfd I’d calmly suggest starting your search for one before they file chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Great review Marko. The blurb says the guitar is not weight relieved but can you please confirm what it weighs?
Steve&Jacky Cox thank you bud. Yep not weight relieved. Mines around 9
Great video I’m buying one I’m sold

You're right, the neck is just perfect, isn't it!!! ;)
If you could one, either the 2018 LP Classic or 2017 LP Classic, which one would you choose? Thank you in advance! Chris C.
CLC077 wow that’s a tuff one. Honestly, I would have to flip a coin on that :). Best truly is to have both 😂

My biggest draw toward getting this guitar is the p90’s, bridge and no weight relief but man the fret work on yours looks beautiful
I love how much you love these guitars.
Man, I did a post five minutes ago and it 'failed to post' and I thought you might've blocked me.
Thanks for the video buddy. I’ve always been a humbucker kind of guy. But with this video I guess I’m ready to buy my first les Paul with 90s
Question. Are those P90s set on those adapters that are used to mount P90s or mini humbuckers like the 2016 models? Would love to make this thing a Les Paul Deluxe minus the sandwich body of the 70s. Thanks
They're direct mounted on springs, you can actually de-press them. I think exchanging them should be no prob. ;)
Makes me glad to see all the p90 in an LP love on here

Excellent review. I've got one on order and can't wait!
Dan Ballou Congrats, enjoy it in good health and post some pics :-)
Just bought mine a few days ago with a Bigsby vibramate. Love love love it. Mine didn’t come with locking tuners. Would you update with kluson locking tuners. I think that’s the only thing missing with mine
Very nice.
Just purchased an Ebony.
Can't wait to put it in my handsm
Marko - How would you rate this guitar in terms of your favorites among your collection? Do you tend to "go to" this guitar frequently, or do you see it as more of a specialty guitar?
Hi Greg :)
I couldn't picture my collection without it.
Enjoy your new beauty/beast!
Nice axe Marko! I have the 2011 Trad Pro with tapped coil P90's a GC run and I still can't put it down. BTW a nice tribute to your grandparents.
Very nice review and playing. Damn, your passion for this guitar is challenging my GAS !!!!!
My favorite Gibson in the last 15 years. I have the Pelham Blue one. There is a big ground plate in the control cavity that seems to tame some of the treble rolloff when the volume is turned down. Or maybe that's just my ears. Nice review!

Oliver Lorbiecki Congrats, dear friend. Enjoy it in good health!!
Thanks,I will take care....
First time visitor, great review! Gorgeous Les Paul, very impressed. "Stunning!" Nice Tribute to your Grandparents as well. Salute!
Is it worth it to buy from sweetwater if you don't live in the U.S.? Don't you have to pay customs fees and VAT when it gets to your country?
João Miguel Gomes Yeah with international shipping it gets tough very fast unfortunately. But maybe you can still get the guitar cheaper than buying it outside of the US.
Marko, great video, I just found this and realized I joined you FB group yesterday. By the way this is gonna be my next LP, played one Saturday and it is a superb axe.

Hey Marko, just stumbled across your channel checking out this video, thanks for the awesome review!! Which amp were you using at 32:00?
Thank you bud ;) Marshall DSL40c. Perfect little amp!!
Thanks! Rock on man \m/
Gold was the RIGHT choice! But hey... Get the black one as well ;-) You KNOW you want to!!!
Excellent review. Just bought a Pelham Blue version of this guitar and was very pleased with it right out of the box. Had an R6 version and this new model is better. You have a nice touch on guitar and please keep reviewing.
Thanks for sharing. Very cool of you to do for us all😀

Marko I’m glad you got a new Gibson Les Paul. I can see how happy you are with the new 🎸 . In a few months I’ll be buying one also! Great looking gUiTaR! - and gold top is the only way to gO . Have fUn!!
Love seeing you so thrilled with this guitar. Awesome in boxing. Very cool. I want one!! Love the shirt:)

Marko - Impressive on so many levels!! Thanks!!
Hi Marko, did you say locking tuners? Thank you
Vic Johnson yeah totally made mistake didn’t even look at it correctly ;) I was too excited lol
Grover Rotomatics. They are non-locking tuners and the best 3X3 tuners ever made. I have a stash of these from the good old PAT. PEND. U.S.A. days.
Thank you
Thank you
Marko how much was this beautiful guitar and i'm a P90 fan all the way !!!
:) you can really good deals at SWEETWATER etc-great guitar!!!!
is there a better morning than a morning like that?
I'm torn between this and Pelham Blue. Have the blue on order, and I already have a 2017 GT Classic... but, damn the GT looks good with P-90s.
The GOLDTOPPPPPP IS SCRREAMING at YOU!!!!! LOL ;)
THAT GUITAR IS REALLY NICE, LOVE THE P90'S. I HAVE AN EARLY 2000'S CLASSIC HONEY BURST THAT I LOVE. I PUT 57'S IN IT AND IT SINGS. COOL VIDEO.
Great review dude! Subscribed. Ordered mine, playing the waiting game now :(
Congrats man-WAITING SUCKKKKSSSSS LOL
Marko, your video was very detailed! Love it. I want one now
Great review Marko, the P90s sound really nice in Les Paul. I think Gibson hit the home run with the 2018 Les Paul's. Pozdrav! :)

I'm planning on getting an ebony one in a week or two. I had the chance to play one today at guitar center and I'm sold; the P90s are the real deal!
mine is arriving next week...Ebony too. I've never played the P90 version but I can't wait.
Redduke Teleman I’ve played the P90 version it sounds great!
That tone with overdrive is heavenly!!!
U r a LuCky Man! Congratulations 🎉 on the new les pauL!🇺🇸🎸🇺🇸🎸
Play it before judging.
great video - would you mind telling me what Eric Johnson song that was?
Thank you bud-the song is called "Manhattan"-enjoy!
UA-cam keeps telling me to CONTINUE WATCHING this video but I don't know if I can take how wonderful it is. Okay, I'll try. Im at 29.09
MikeMonson 😂😜👍
Speaking of p90s
The solo for another brick 🧱 on the wall was a p90 Les Paul
Shes gorgeous! Id have grabbed this one if the Slash Anaconda USA version hadnt came out in December and i got ger yesterday in a black snakeskin case with bkack interior. They are stepping it up alot. Gibson is only dead in the eyes if the haters. This guitar gets a 99% grade!
p-90 are the best you can hear every note in the overdrive, better the humbuckers
david alberto strangely enough: I agree
david alberto I'm so glad you enjoy your new Gibson! I was the Final QC that worked on this instrument 😎 Jack!
liar
Interestingly though, Andertons, the UKs biggest retailer couldn't shift these and ended up discounting them heavily in late 2018 as the new range Classic (with hum-buckers) shipped. I am not suggesting you are wrong, I have P90s on a Casino but the truth is most people want a full fat HB on a Gibson, not a P90. Ditto same story on the SG even though originally it had P90s - Peter Townsend had one.
What have time changes with guitars to do?
Is this the best Les Paul nowadays? is just a question
i actually LIKE those straps! :) awesome axe btw. i like beefier necks. guess I'll have to wait to roll the dice 2019 but everything else is purrrrfect.
Great review Marko, love the enthusiasm, God Bless,
they got balls guys! bloeeeeh! Marko you rock! :D Great video!
Cool review! I'm totes gonna get one in black!
Did you say it has locking tuners?
guitar obsession yes-and I was totally wrong. They're regular Grovers. In my peripheral vision it looked like they were the same like last year's model and I didn't even notice that's not the case until after the review LOL
How can the p90's be adjusted in heigth?
Frans van den Berge they are direct mounted on springs and can be depressed with the two middle screws being tightened which will lower them.
You sir are an incredible host. And your new instrument is to die for.
Great Vid Mate, Thumbs up from Sheffield, England.
Marko - luv your reviews!!!
Really nice review. Enjoyed very much! Beautiful guitar
Excellent review of a great guitar. I'm going to order one
I really want a Classic but I’m not sure about the P-90 for high gain stuff. Your guitar looks great man, you scored with that one!
Think this review has steered me ... but the Ebony ... great review first time visitor, subscribed 👊
Good luck with your new guitar..You sound like a nice guy and the review was very nice as well..
Now I want one!! Damnit!! Thanks Marko :)
