i highly highly doubt that Eric Clapton (THE guitar god) lives in such a small property that he has to worry about bothering neighbours with his guitar practicing. I dont know where he resides right now but I guarantee he doesnt have to peer out his window to makes sure no ones bothered by his playing...
That's probably his London pad. As far as I know he still has his main home in Surrey. I've been there and it is not the kind of place where you have to worry about bothering the neighbours - unless you are playing outside in the grounds - for example, with a few former Beatles at a wedding party!
I learned a 'trick' recently and told one of my friends, 'if you want to get the Clapton sound, you have to dial back the tone knob on the guitar'. It made me smile watching the video, that the first thing he did after plugging it in and picking a few notes, was to turn down the tone on the guitar. :)

Agreed. He sold his guitars to literally fund the drug and alcohol rehabilitation of the islanders of Antigua, where Clapton of course has Crossroads Centre and has had a house there since the 80s. He is one of the nicest guitar gods out there. And he'll be the first to admit that when he was drunk he was an asshole, but after living the life he has and having close to 30 years of sobriety will bring a person a lot of perspective and humility, not to mention the Crossroads Centre that's continually working toward changing the lives of thousands of people from around the world every year from the throes of addiction. Eric Clapton is such a NICE guy. Saw him many years ago when he recorded one of his albums at Olympic Studios in Barnes before it shut down and turned in to a cinema or something like that. Eric stops has a chat and it is simply magical to hear him tuning up, a really great guitarist
This is why it's of such an importance of having quality players influence you early in life. Eric discovered real quality blues players early in his life which set him up to become one of the greatest blues players ever, with impeccable vibrato and unmatched phrasing.
As a musician whose coming up, its really cool to see Clapton play around with both guitar and amp controls to achieve the tone he wants. I learned something today!
I’ve known Eric Clapton for a long time, but haven’t really payed attention to him/his music until recently. I started playing guitar almost 2 months ago, and he is a big inspiration to me. I find it fascinating how he can play something on the spot! George is my favorite Beatle, and it makes me even happier that they we’re friends :)
Lol this might bum you out but did you know Eric ended up marrying George's ex wife? Pretty sure Clapton was hooking up with George's wife while they were married. The messed up part is they were bros so its kind of rotten. Although i will say george was forsure cheating on her while they were married most notably with ringo's wife lol. I should also say in their defense it was the 60's and 70's... you know, free love and all that jazz lmao. But it's not much of an excuse since both Clapton and George at that time of their fame could of gotten damn near any woman they wanted.
@@rtk90083 Yes, I’m very aware of that haha. George in fact did cheat on Pattie with Maureen (Ringo’s ex-wife). I know Eric did all of those things, but yes, it was the 60’s and 70’s, so it wasn’t uncommon sadly. Eric had a hard life even before becoming famous, but I’m glad he is much better and I really appreciate him for that. Btw, thank you for sounding more kind rather than some people who can be nasty :)
I don't know why a lot of people here saying Eric is overrated, the guy is an absolute legend, what are u guys doing here? If u think he's overrated go watch slash of some other shit
Eric Clapton was right when he said your going to like this. he was absolutely right. it's great to hear him talk about how he got some of the guitars he played. George Harrison was just incredible. that was an AWESOME Les Paul such killer tone. the let down was it was about relic guitars I can't stand them.
To me, his life has been like a dream. Although he has had the trials and tribulations we all have, the one thing that breaks my heart, other than the tragic death of his son, is the fact his father, who he never knew, lived his whole life not knowing Eric Clapton was his son.
I'm not against artist tribute instruments, but I'll be so happy when they get past the "relic" crap. I don't want a guitar that's a twin of some one else's guitar. One that has every nick and scratch that THEY put on it. I want a pristine canvas that I can put my own dents and stuff into. At least I'll know where it came from and have the memories that are attached to them. But hey....to each their own.
That’s why they do them in the VOS finish as well usually, those look old but they don’t have every ding of the original. I like when people like Fender do relicing because it’s always different with each guitar. Gibson usually just recreates someone else’s.
@@megadave1197 - Not sure if your comment was aimed my way or not, but if it was...yeah. Not a problem at all. While I may not be able to play a guitar like Clapton but I'm very capable of putting wear on any guitar as well as he has. oh yeah...🙄
I respect that opinion, but I like nicks on the guitar because it’s a tribute. Y’know, that’s just me, lol. If I wanted a pristine canvas, I’ just get a new guitar, like, for example, a Player Stratocaster
As a teenager in the sixties, one of my first albums was the Beano Bluesbreakers album and I could not believe Eric's playing and tone on that album. Still can't. Lightning in a bottle.
It's interesting to see a legend have to stop and fiddle with his amp... reassuring in a way. Nice to see him just playing at home like everybody else.
In his autobiography, Andy Summers writes about selling his ‘59 Les Paul Sunburst to Clapton. Summers had tipped off Clapton that another ‘59 was on sale at the same shop where he found the classic instrument. Clapton’s guitar, however, was stolen. Apparently, Clapton persisted and convinced Summers to sell. If you interview Clapton again it could be an interesting story to ask about.
I truly wish Clapton would play Les Pauls more often. The tone that inspired me as a guitar player came from the time when he was primarily a Gibson player during the days of Cream and he sounds right at home with a 335 or Les Paul.
the story goes Lucy was originally owned by John Sebastian of loving spoonful, that traded it to Rick Derringer, Clapton bought it and gave it to George as a gift for stealing Patty from George, the guitar was later stolen from Georges house in L,A, and sold at a pawn shop on sunset bLvd. and later bought by a Mexican that took the guitar back to Mexico, the guy that owned the pawn shop got a phone call from George to go to Mexico trade 2 other guitars George owned for Lucy a brown 68 Gibson Les Paul and a 50's telecaster. and he willingly did. it's been told that Clapton played this guitar with George on stage in the concert for Bangladesh but the guitar he played was a cherry red gibson 335
I don't believe or disbelieve you - but I looked at a raft of pics and none of them I saw show Clapton holding or playing a cherry red 335. Curious, no? Doesn't mean he didn't - but at the very least, he played others that he was holding when the cameras were clicking...
The Clouds Have Eyes lucille was named after a girl that 2 guys in a bar got in a fight over and nearly burned down a building . they knocked over a can of kerosene and when B.B. King got out the door he realized he left his guitar so he barely got out alive trying to grab his guitar. " I found out the name of that lady was Lucille, so I named my guitar that to remind me to never do something like that again." - B.B. King.

all I can say is you are a bunch of gay boys like Newt Greenwitch with his Boys Club.
To my ears Clapton sounds better with a Gibson than a Fender. Not saying he doesn't sound good on a Fender; but to me it's a Gibson, baby.
sounds more heavy, strat is on that mid to high tone,
well, comparing a LP to a Strat.... There's a different....'creaminess' with a LP.
That Les paul is more beautiful than strat fender
lol how can you compare ? It depends on the amp, on the way this video was recorded and so on ... so many parameters
@@nicolasantoine3298I can compare. In another segment of this interview, he plays a strat. The sound on the Gibson is far superior.
I could listen to Eric talk about guitars until my veins dry out
2 others worth a look are Joe Walsh and Paul Gilbert.
Great to hear Eric's memories of some classic sounds and guitars.
Did you come up?
Coming up musician my ass
Nice to have friends who gift you guitars like a Les Paul. Eric also gifted George with the White Strat he used for the Bangladesh show.
1:05 "you're not going to like this!" Yes Eric, yes we are.
Is it just me or does this tone sound absolutely insanely good
Eric Clapton was right when he said your going to like this. he was absolutely right. it's great to hear him talk about how he got some of the guitars he played. George Harrison was just incredible. that was an AWESOME Les Paul such killer tone. the let down was it was about relic guitars I can't stand them.
For me the absolute cools thing about This video is it really shows how much respect Eric has for the instrument itself.... Mark of a true artist
There is just 1 word to describe this guy WOW! Eric u are just a freaking LEGEND man.
Didn’t he steal another guy’s wife ?!
Don't ya just love when legendary rock stars tell real cool stories like this?
when he corrects himself about George "would have been able to set it up" just shows how close they were...thank god we still have clapton here
God I miss George
Man I keep seeing you In the comments of all these great rock and blues videos. Good taste my man!
“I might have to turn it up I’m afraid” mate I’ll be grooving even while you tune your guitar
Love the man his music and his stories AND his guitars. So nice to see the Master with a Les Paul again.
Dont die. Just get ages, please
_tamtan_ I have no idea what I will do when this legend dies.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Full blown ages
Clapton is a racist fuck. Who cares. Not like he's gonna make any more good music.
His memory for details is impressive. A true craftsman. Humble too, refers to himself as a “simple human being.” Can’t make this stuff up.
I love listening to Eric, just do. LOve the way he quickly interjects other ideas before finishing a sentence, so much to say.
such a wealth of knowledge and history from this man...the things he has done and the things he has seen in his lifetime are truly amazing.
I could listen to him talk about this all day
I was fortunate to meet with him, while of working at fender, great man to work with...
When Clapton picks up a les pual his playing is more ballsy.
Indeed. Especially with the pual
To me, his life has been like a dream. Although he has had the trials and tribulations we all have, the one thing that breaks my heart, other than the tragic death of his son, is the fact his father, who he never knew, lived his whole life not knowing Eric Clapton was his son.
Love his big smile when he turns up the volume. Ahhhhh here we are.
Love Eric - he’s such a brilliant guitarist ✌🏻🎶🎸
Clapton is without doubt a great guitarist, love his outlook on life too!
I could listen to this guy talk shop for hours. He’s forgotten more about the guitar than most of us will ever learn in our lives.
Although I find him to be a tad overhyped, this man has my utmost respect. A very humble soul and somebody who truly loves what he does. Great man.
When you hear him say "the sixties". Tells you what a legend he really is!
Albert Hammond's Signature by Fender is exactly that. Based on an old, genuine relic'd strat but comes clean for you to make your own dings
That’s why they do them in the VOS finish as well usually, those look old but they don’t have every ding of the original. I like when people like Fender do relicing because it’s always different with each guitar. Gibson usually just recreates someone else’s.
You comparing your canvas to that of Clapton 😂
@@megadave1197 - Not sure if your comment was aimed my way or not, but if it was...yeah. Not a problem at all.
While I may not be able to play a guitar like Clapton but I'm very capable of putting wear on any guitar as well as he has.
oh yeah...🙄
I respect that opinion, but I like nicks on the guitar because it’s a tribute. Y’know, that’s just me, lol. If I wanted a pristine canvas, I’ just get a new guitar, like, for example, a Player Stratocaster
In a white room....
Kevin Sandstrom with white curtains .....
Dats raysis!
Goes straight to the blues - i love how all top guitarists do this, give them a guitar during an interview and they start playing blues licks.
when clapton goes up on the stage to perform he becomes a different man a guitar and music magician.
Eric said, "George was capable of setting it up". Very Cool George. RIP my brother.
Its hard to tell if the guitar sounds amazing or everything Clapton plays sounds amazing.
As a teenager in the sixties, one of my first albums was the Beano Bluesbreakers album and I could not believe Eric's playing and tone on that album. Still can't. Lightning in a bottle.
It's interesting to see a legend have to stop and fiddle with his amp... reassuring in a way. Nice to see him just playing at home like everybody else.
still alive, a force of life. Blessings to him.
Sept 11 2019 was the 2nd most memorable sept 11th because Clapton played SF and my mum and I watched in awe
If you interview Clapton again it could be an interesting story to ask about.
just by watching him noodle on the guitar you learn so much more about playing
wow. the way he dials in the tone so smooth like ✨
Eric Clapton makes any guitar sound great.
Great to see Clapton turning up the gain... like in the ol' days!!!
I truly wish Clapton would play Les Pauls more often. The tone that inspired me as a guitar player came from the time when he was primarily a Gibson player during the days of Cream and he sounds right at home with a 335 or Les Paul.
the photographer is pissing me off xD

Vinyl Joe hehe xd
Heh. Im a photographer and I barely ever use flash
Geez...every 2 seconds...
Somebody please show guitar center how to mic an amp.
It's amazing hows plug it and just sound with the best overdrive and sustain. Great mix, Clapton/Fender-Gibson.
the story goes Lucy was originally owned by John Sebastian of loving spoonful, that traded it to Rick Derringer, Clapton bought it and gave it to George as a gift for stealing Patty from George, the guitar was later stolen from Georges house in L,A, and sold at a pawn shop on sunset bLvd. and later bought by a Mexican that took the guitar back to Mexico, the guy that owned the pawn shop got a phone call from George to go to Mexico trade 2 other guitars George owned for Lucy a brown 68 Gibson Les Paul and a 50's telecaster. and he willingly did. it's been told that Clapton played this guitar with George on stage in the concert for Bangladesh but the guitar he played was a cherry red gibson 335
Not so - Google "Images - Clapton - Bangladesh"...
i was there was er's set up tech for 20 years
I don't believe or disbelieve you - but I looked at a raft of pics and none of them I saw show Clapton holding or playing a cherry red 335. Curious, no? Doesn't mean he didn't - but at the very least, he played others that he was holding when the cameras were clicking...
"Lucy" & Lucille = Lucifer
The Clouds Have Eyes lucille was named after a girl that 2 guys in a bar got in a fight over and nearly burned down a building . they knocked over a can of kerosene and when B.B. King got out the door he realized he left his guitar so he barely got out alive trying to grab his guitar.
" I found out the name of that lady was Lucille, so I named my guitar that to remind me to never do something like that again." - B.B. King.
Eric is amazing, also a great guy and a legend of course.
How awesome would it be to sit and listen to Eric play this?
He's so awesome, love Clapton, what a talent.
