- Here we go trying to jam everything into one video again! This week we introduced three Lyretail Anthias into the 135g MODE Aquarium, I got three healthy specimen from a local vendor The Reefer Spot (thereeferspot.com); we also received a high end coral order from Joker Corals (jokercorals.com). Last but not least, we tried out the Brine Shrimp Hatchery from Brine Shrimp Direct / Bulk Reef Supply and deemed it excellent!

Be sure to check out @jokercorals (DM him to join his Chinese Wechat reef chat) and @thereeferspot on Instagram! The 5g container I got for Kalk is on Amazon and would make for a nice ATO container as well (amzn.to/3peZbnE). The third Anthias that has been hiding is finally out and about most of the time now, she finally thinks that I am alright after all. =)
I loved your remark at the end. Indeed we are the United States!
More the United Socialist States.
@cody colina I second that! If the demorats take office we're only going to see more dividing and unrest.
The states are united!
Hello hello super fantastic video again...
Great video as always, keep up the great work!
Thanks for telling us that you purchased them. I appreciate that very much.
Tank is taking shape. I’m beginning to see your vision👌🏻
Great update. United!
I LOVE my baby brine shrimp hatchery! Think it’s super simple and I’ve enjoyed using mine. Great video as usual!
I considered buying it. Do you only put Salt water?
@@carminecarlone2869 I use just saltwater per the instructions from the eggs off BRS as well
@@kingtidecorals okay awesome!
I use tank water in my hatchery as well, albeit undiluted and get the same results harvesting after just 24 hours
Such a simple yet effective piece of kit....genius design
Loving the tank man it looks so awesome 👏🏻 the fish are so happy in it they look like they are super heathy , today I saw a super tiny blue tang at petco and thought of your channel lol I loved the baby blue tang in your old tank
u have inspired me to have my own reef
keep up the positive fun content that is also educational
Dude those look super healthy! and you're definitely right. videos and photos don't do their colors justice. so vivid!
Can't wait to see if one of the females will turn into a male! Joining the Anthias Gang!
Thanks for the update i love your tank
Glad the brine shrimp tip worked! LEVEL UP on that live foods game!
Great looking corals.
Nice! The tanks coming along great!
Thank you!!
Goinopora Appreciate low to medium flow, but preferably with some randomness to it, that way you will get a gentle waving motion which helps keep The coral clean and bring food to the colony. Also they prefer medium light somewhere between 30and 150 Par. Highlight would be anything over 150.
Just my opinion but I think the x-mas tree worm rock would look amazing in the 150 gallon tank!
I use a water bottle with a bubbler to hatch the shrimp. I always use tank water also always get a big hatch rate 😀😀😀
I got 3 anthias and my third was the oddball out as well, 1yr later and she’s still healthy and seems happy without a mate
Hi again, gr8 content as per, tanks both looking amazing , I used to use kalk in my ato, good way of saving the use of equipment , I used the brineshrimp hatchery u do aswell , but I had 2 and alternated the days of fresh eggs , that way each day would have a harvest , can get away with less frozen , and have better quality food for fish and corals , but with anthias that may be difficult, I feel a Midas blenny or 2 or 3 would be gr8 in the 135g , jus an amazing fish to watch
Amazing my friend
Placing the line outside works wonders. I have my ph at a solid 8.5 daily with this addition(reef builders was saying higher then 8.4 helps growth). This was the easiest fix for me.
Gorgonians have really grown on me lately, I only have a orange NPS one, and it’s been growing like crazy! and I definitely want to get some other ones, or like the ones you have. Very underrated!
Totally! Awesome that you are doing NPS so well. If you are in the States, check out live-plants.com as a great (affordable) source of gorgonians!
yeah I am in the states, that sounds good! I feel the NPS ones are easier than most make them seem, but I will definitely check out the site! Thanks!
I love your channel. Love your content. Love your style of reefing. Much respect for your tanks. But please do some wire management. If you need help I will drive up from South Florida. Lol. 🤪
Your Goniopora will need low to medium light and water flow, with a surge (Higher) flow two or three times a day for 15 minutes. Direct target feeding of a very, very fine powder coral food once or twice a week, while also keeping a higher nutrition water quality.
Pro tip! If you use freshly mixed saltwater vs tank water you will get an even higher hatching rate for the baby brine shrimp. I've done it both ways and I get way more hatching with the fresh saltwater!
I enjoy seeing your tank under blue lights! Can we see it with an orange filter next?
0:39 *whipping sound* 😆
I saw a video where someone put their sun corals on a magnetic rack right below their automatic fish feeder. Could be an idea for you :)
I struggled with low pH for over a year and trade the method you’re referring to and ended up with calcium over 600. It had a negative affect on the tank and through other things out of balance as well. It’s so easy to use fresh air and there’s a lot of videos on it how to do it. Feel free to respond I would even be more than willing to have a quick chat or phone call to explain how it’s worked in my situation - really wanna see you successful! Really appreciate your channel take care
Thank you, Chris! My biggest blocker for bringing in outside air is drilling through the wall.. I think I have all the necessary equipment (power drill, mason bits), just need to know what happens after I drill the hole... and how large a hole should I go for?
@@InappropriateReefer Great question, since you can’t undo mason holes! A 1.25” saw made with a 1” hole saw will work. After you make it, caulk around the pipe to to seal out the bugs etc.
This would be a great project to ask your buddy Telegram for help with. Don’t forget, it’s easy to know for sure that CO2 buildup is your issue without making a single hole. Just crack the sliding glass door or window open near the tank for a few hours. You’ll see the PH shoot up if I’m right. It’s almost always the fix!
If you’d like some pics of mine, happy to provide. Just tell me where to send them
You can’t have a goniopora garden without the amazeball Goni.
If you look back when the three fish was in the holding tank. You will see one of them fish kept looking up at you, I'm guessing it's the one that's hiring, but but watches you.
🇺🇸 merica wooooo. I'm waiting on my lfs to get some more lyretails. Had to wait until after move and for everything to settle in. Might be another week or 2
I'm pretty sure the Kalk needs to be stirred for a short duration 2-3 times a day and the part that should be used (precipitate) is near the top of the container not the bottom. I would use a kalk reactor in conjunction with a timer/controller.
I thought it's more a stir it well once and let it settle kind of deal? Let me double check, thanks!
🇺🇸
I joined reef squad years ago..
Where did you find the rigid acrylic tubing? I can't find any locally in MD.
I have to drill a small hole in the house... !! Wait what !! LMAO! The life of a married reefer!
Use a co2 scrubber will work as I use kalkwasser and it worked but I stop using kalkwasser as it mess up my ato pump so I just use co2 scrubber and my ph stays at 8.35 to 8.45
Is that a weeping willow in front of the clam haha? If so where did you get it?!
What type off brine shrimp hatchery do you have there? I’ve only ever seen and use the kind that uses the 2 liter pop bottle
Looking very, very nice! In behind the new corals you spotlighted, there is a long polyp leather. Do you know what kind or type it is? If you do will you please let me know?
Do you mean the green one? I got it from Top Shelf Aquatics as green toadstool leather, you may be able to DM them on Instagram and ask them about this coral specifically, they are usually very responsive on there!
@@InappropriateReefer Thank you so very much. It is beau- ti- ful in my eyes.
did your P04 spike up when you increased daily feeding?
Oh so true, we are united by a set of beliefs not by any human being remember that.
Love the anthias
You should get an ornate wrasse (halichoeres). Mine is a beauty
Whenever I get a mesh top, I may revisit my stock list and try to introduce another wrasse or a dwarf eel ☺
@inappropriate reefer hey can you give us a rough idea of how much tank water and tap water you guesstimate when hatching the brine?
Any advice gettinf a new male lyretail anthias to eat?? Ive tried tdo pellets mysis krill and cyclops and so far jus some pecking here n there wont really eat and i super dont wanna lose this guy hes my fav fish already beautiful but wont be very beautiful dead im gonna go get some brine tomorrow jus to give something else a try
the only pellets I could get my anthias to eat was a north fin brand 2mm marine blend. comes on a bag. it did take about 6months but they took it eventually. I still feed frozen mysis once a week
I am lucky, among the mix of food that I feed, I see the Anthias pick at "something." Not exactly sure what they are picking at but they are eating... I do still feed frozen mysis until they get bold enough to really compete with the rest of the fish!
Read alot about hatching brine shrimp and tried many different parameters.
Everyone always talks about salinity and heat, even light being the important factors but in my experience, it is the pH that matters most.
You don't need to be exact but tap water that is around 7 ph will result in average yield no matter how good temps and light and salt is. Put a touch of bicarb soda and get the pH over 8 and you'll get heaps more.
Thank you! One of the Brine Shrimp Hatchery review mentioned putting in a little bit of baking soda to improve the hatch rate, I will give that a try, thanks!!
Where can I buy one of your flying saucer brine shrimpers
I’m always thinking you’re speaking to me when you say Anthias. I thought a fish was named after me but alas it’s not flathead AntheA😂
Have you considered "Aqua Medic catch bowl" for transferring fish instead of hands?
I have not, let me see what that is, thanks!
Do you have a link to the Brine Shrimp Hatchery?
what is that tank by the brine shrimp hatchery?
Emily was not please with drilling the hole in the wall. haha.
I have read various stories about small anthias groups where the one after the other died because two anthias in the group are dominant. I guess that could explain Kramer's behaviour!?
Hahahaha one of my fish is like that. I feel like he sit there all day and people watches.
Can you do a video on how to care for lytail anthias please I have some In my tank and they aren't eating... can you give me a advice on how to care for them.
If they’re not eating I’d try live food like brineshrimp first to get a respond and then try frozen for more nutritious food. They tend to feed multiple times a day, though later could be stretched to once a day.
"Why don't you just move your fish tank outside?!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Come on man, you know certain things you can't say about the reef tank when the wife is around😂
Any discounts Rhee u to that coral supplier
Are you able to provide a link for that brine shrimp hatcher?
Yep, I got mine from BRS: www.bulkreefsupply.com/brine-shrimp-hatchery-dish-brine-shrimp-direct-inc.html
What is the orange fish in the thumbnail?
Ly-R-tail anthias. I do not see that they need multiple feeds per day. Seem to get along fine with 1-2 x per day . Two years and running.
Sorry to blow up your comment section! My tank is a 125 with a 40 gallon sump so we are in a similar situation FYI.
To raise your pH, connect a 1 inch PVC line to the outside of your house and connect it to the intake of your protein skimmer. Your tank is very close to the outside wall so this is not a very hard thing to do. I have a 55 foot run and use one and a half inch pipe and then connected it to the intake of the air on my protein skimmer and my pH went from 7.7 and now averages 8.1 to 8.3 depending on the light cycle. I cannot begin to stress how easy this is and how much of a difference it will make. If you wanna verify this before doing all the work involved, simply open the sliding glass door for a couple of hours in the room that your tank is in and watch the pH go up. If this works my solution works perfectly.
The air line is what I did to works great
Where can you get those containers? I want to be able to store some ro in that
This is the exact one I got from Amazon, love them: amzn.to/3p4JnUJ
@@InappropriateReefer Thank you so much! There shouldn't be a problem storing ro water for a week ?
The sad side on that blue boom everything gets a funky name and prices went through the roof...makes much space for black sheeps for fast bucks...
Gorgonian garden? i’m here for that, maybe some red and yellow finger gorgonians
Please send me a reef squad poster.. Great video as always. Ty
Did you win the raffle from Reef Escapes?
Not me, I did not even hear about it 😢
@@InappropriateReefer ah well it’s over now but it’s the second post on their Instagram
Try brightwell alkalin 8.3 if you still have troubles with PH 👍🇬🇧
I was looking at it, although in it's description it said to not use it as a long term solution, that stopped me in my track. 🤔
If you want some really nice zoas, look up Bulldawg Reef and Heathens Reefing. Both have amazing corals and not just zoas.
Thank you, checking them out!
Does anyone know what the substrate he has in this tank is? (150G)
I use a mix of Reef Flake and Mini Flake (can be bought at Premium Aquatic)
@@InappropriateReefer YES!!! A reply from the man himself!!! Thank you so much, I appreciate your response! Keep up the great videos, I’m here for every one!
My silver belly wrasse does the same thing when he's stressed (chase his reflection and stay at the waterline). I bet your wrasse is being bullied by the anthias and you have not noticed it yet. Make sure the anthias are well fed and it may help, but try to keep an eye on the tank or setup a webcam so you can see who is bullying him. I feel terrible when this happens, but halichoerids are generally very peaceful fish and usually the first to get bullied. I would check his fins and make sure they are not nipped.
that doesn't seems to me a gold torch , at least not an aussie gold torch, how much costs a single frag of aussie gold torch in the U.s.a.? Here in Europe 250 € like 300 bucks.
About the same maybe closer to 200usd but I’m in a pretty saturated market down in so cal. All the hype is the dragon soul down here
1st loving it
ati co scrubber lasts long time
I also had trouble pronouncing it, first I thought it was “LEER-Tail.”
I’m Chinese-Canadian but didn’t grow up in an English speaking household and I admit even now I do struggle with a couple words every once in a while.
The struggle is real over here as well, it's fine, makes us more memorable 😂
@@InappropriateReefer xD Been following your channel for a while and love your vids. I am looking to enter the hobby real soon once the coronavirus settles a bit. Keep it up!
My anthis would do the same thing and it lasted like a week
Thanks for sharing your experience! The shy 3rd one is out more now, still the first one to dives into the rock when I get close, but hopefully in a week or two she'll get used to me!
Try a cat lazer pointer it works on my clowns lol
If you don't have alkalinity being consumed you are gonna skyrocket alkalinity dosing kalk....
0:04 6:25 7:07 7:10 9:03 16:45 CARNIVOROUS PLANTS??? NEPENTHES TERRARIUM??? ITS BRIEF BUT ITS THERE IN THE BACKGROUND
Yes sir! =) I have a mix of different carnivorous plants in there as I'm figuring out what I like most. I'd say the Australian pitcher plant has really grown on me...!
My Fargo is garden 🪴
I dont want to be that guy but 19th
Hello
Get a tomini tang
what kind of clown do you have? also funny to see the hobby hatchery becoming so hot in the united states had i for years, i believe its a dutch company
Those are Mocha DaVinci clowns from Sea & Reef, I thought they strike a nice balance between natural clown and designer clown! The hobby hatchery works wonder, glad I got it!
Aim for minimum 6 8 anthias bruh
