Apologies if someone has already pointed this out, but I believe the bathroom sequence and the black and white parts of Conviction were actually inspired by Daniel Craig’s first Bond film, Casino Royale, which has Bond on his first mission smashing up a bathroom to take someone out.
I wonder why a Jason Bourne simulator that alienated half the Splinter Cell's fanbase received the X treatment but such a masterpiece and true Splinter Cell like Chaos Theory hasn't been made backwards compatible.

Great stuff, guys. Been enjoying Conviction and Blacklist in their new 4K glory. Amazing how good they still look. One issue I have is the brightness/gamma. They’re incredibly and unnaturally dark and there’s nothing adjusting TV settings can do about it.
Splinter Cell Conviction fully realized and all for free! One of the many, many reasons why I love my Xbox One X. Well done Microsoft and well done Digital Foundry. With all this Splinter Cell goodness Microsoft just gave us, would it be too much to ask to have the original Splinter Cell on the orginal Xbox get the Xbox One X Enhanced treatment a la Ninja Gaiden Black? That would be outstanding. BTW still waiting for the Ninja Gaiden 3. From making great old games play better to being the best way to play current gen games, the only problems I have with my One X is (1) finding more room on my hard drive to store these games and (2) finding the time to play these games. These are 2 problems I don't mind having.
I do love the way that Conviction displays information in the environment, but I'd say the team took this cue from Hollywood more than the other way around. I remember how striking it was to me the first time I saw the way Tony Scott's (RIP) Man On Fire displayed information --- FABULOUS Top Ten GOAT of a movie, by the way --- that film was from 2004. I also think that Florent Siri, who directed the first Splinter Cell game, his film Hostage (from 2005, great flick) also informed the visual style of Conviction.
Wow, I remember playing this game on launch and being amazed by its graphics. This felt like a really awesome looking game with sharp graphics back in the day. And the IRAQ sequence, oh my God, I re-played that sequence again and again because the moded AK-47 and Sam looked real bad ass.
This was my first SC experience and got me hooked. That said, Conviction felt like an extended demo, or an alpha version of Blacklist. With Blacklist they dialed back the arcadey action aspect a bit in favor of a more overall stealth experience. Plus, the levels were much larger, as was the game as a whole, and the gadgets were a blast.
Spartan MYST It's really not. If you play Conviction and Blacklist back to back, you feel how barren and small the levels in Conviction are. Watch Dogs is in an entirely different league. Not even taking the open world aspect of WD in consideration.
I love the SC series, thought Conviction was awesome but I remember seeing the original plan for the hobo Sam Fisher game and thought it looked so good. I understand and I’m happy with the choice to stay closer to the SC formula but I would like to have seen that game, looked like a Bourne game.

@@ark_knight Well I think you're right. Just checked a list of games which have utilized Bink and the newest one released about a year ago. So... hooray, I guess?
@@kanchouscorner2074 Wow, newest was one year back? Am surprised. Thought it would atleast be a decade after the last use lol
@@kanchouscorner2074 Small RAM footprint for a video player within a game program, uses relatively little CPU for decoding, and developers already having the license to it is why Bink video was used.
Guys, that bathroom sequence is clearly inspired by two prior movies actually: True Lies (1994) and Casino Royale (2006)
Yes Ninja Gaiden 2 next analysis
Thank you so very much for making me aware of this 4K fix er' upper! I just re-purchased this game on my Xbox One X for $9.99...a steal for this excellent game. I played it when it came out, day 1. I have beat the game years ago and I almost completely forgot about it. I remember I was back to console almost exclusively in 2010 (I flip flop back and forth because I love all gaming from every platform). I remember thinking- this game is amazing; However, I thought the 360 was having some issues running it in both frame rate and sub 720p resolution (it upscaled it to 1080p but who am I kidding?). Long story short, I wound up re-playing this game on my gaming rig (at the time) and seeing it run full out in 1080p (4K was just on the horizon). Wow, the game looked insanely good and now in 4K...yes, yes, yes!
Please cover 'black' also X enhanced but an original Xbox game!!!
Also want to see that, it´s the best FPS in the PS2,GameCube and Xbox era.
Talking of the banner style messages in the environment, I love the use of "Somewhere in America" in American Gods series adds something special to the setup of the mood of each episode similarly how they used it in Splinter Cell
Loved this game and it was an Xbox exclusive
Ummmm i played it on pc
@@aluurchin2 he said "was" as it was exclusive to the X360 for a time.
Still didn't sell well so lol.
Adam Jensen pc? You mean Microsoft os? 😂
Happily playing on my Series X but came here first to see if it got Xbox One X support.
Please do an analysis on the patch 1.07 of red dead redemption 2!
YES
Pc or console? Is it anything substantial?
@@Peer165 PC? Not even out on PC. They downgraded the game's graphics. Textures, shadows, etc.
@@Peer165 rdr2 ain't on pc only ps4 and xbox one
That came out nearly 2 months ago
5:06 The best toilet room showdown ever was in True Lies! "Here, cool off!"
9:58 just a fun fact, most animated motion pictures are 20fps, ya don't really notice it while watching the video unless ya get told it's frame-rate, but the resulution in these cutscenes are a tad to low and a bit blurry so ya see a problem, the fps is not a problem in the cutscenes it's the resulution
Some of that compression nonsense came down to the Xbox 360 disc capacity I think, and sadly it bled into many PC versions too.
Still waiting for more OG Xbox games to added
This. Makes me sad they dropped so few after the first hype.
Conviction is my favourite of the SplinterCell series, narrative-wise...
True
Xbox one x 😍😍
This game still looks incredible wow. One x and Series X strength for back compat is wild
Splinter cell was hobo well before John Wick was.
Very Bourne esque tho
Apologies if someone has already pointed this out, but I believe the bathroom sequence and the black and white parts of Conviction were actually inspired by Daniel Craig’s first Bond film, Casino Royale, which has Bond on his first mission smashing up a bathroom to take someone out.
I was playing this on my xbox x last night and I was blown away by the 4k patch..
Is this the xbox 360 version that's updated?
@@delateane1 all of them I love it
Now just we need that Ninja Gaiden analysis and the Halo MCC one, please.
Bring back the old days of Splinter Cell where I could sneak around the entire game without being caught. I want to be a spy, not a Rambo soldier.
Always enjoy the conversation between John and Richard!
I miss Splinter Cell
Didn’t Hellblade Senua’s sacrifice do the projected thing as well? I think they did pretty good in the game as well. Great video as always DF fam!
Love that game
DF: Retro: Syphon Filter
Yes pls.
I wonder why a Jason Bourne simulator that alienated half the Splinter Cell's fanbase received the X treatment but such a masterpiece and true Splinter Cell like Chaos Theory hasn't been made backwards compatible.
Conviction was good and impress with the enhancement on this and Blacklist. I hope this means the Original Trilogy get BC gotta See Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow enhanced
I think if fans will push Ubisoft, they will do it. They just recently bought themselves back from Vivendi, which means they are the ones that need to be spoken to about that now
But then again, with the announcement of new splinter cell, it could be possible that they even announce a remaster.
Honestly a remaster or a backwards compatibility and I will accept either.
The trilogy did get a "remaster" exclusively on the PS3 several years back
"We can't take working mirrors for granted."
Amen.
Congratulations Microsoft!
Now i am ready for the Game!
Love The X!!!
Congratulations Microsoft? Did you wait almost a decade to play this? Wot?
Great stuff, guys. Been enjoying Conviction and Blacklist in their new 4K glory. Amazing how good they still look. One issue I have is the brightness/gamma. They’re incredibly and unnaturally dark and there’s nothing adjusting TV settings can do about it.
The best box one X
I just went to play it on on my Xbox and it is not free, it costs money to download.
Xbox one X has proven once again that it is capable. Really awesome upgrade to the game.
Yeah capable of running a 9 year old game at 30 fps, playing it on PC makes this laughable.
Ok
Its pretty much basic resolution upgrade, PC'S has been doing it like forever.
I finished this on my pc i can stil smel the msaa 8 times and 60 fps.
The game on Xbox One X looks better, than Quantum Brake...
Wow, I remember playing this game on launch and being amazed by its graphics. This felt like a really awesome looking game with sharp graphics back in the day. And the IRAQ sequence, oh my God, I re-played that sequence again and again because the moded AK-47 and Sam looked real bad ass.
Look at all those PIXELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLS!
Conviction was so underrated...still waiting for a new Splinter Cell game...
I played this game when it came out and it was one of the best gaming experiences on xbox 360 - even tho i hate Ubishit.
Just want to point out - the bathroom scene probably took some inspiration from the opening scene in Casino Royale (2006)
Blacklist is so much better
This was my first SC experience and got me hooked. That said, Conviction felt like an extended demo, or an alpha version of Blacklist. With Blacklist they dialed back the arcadey
action aspect a bit in favor of a more overall stealth experience. Plus, the levels were much larger, as was the game as a whole, and the gadgets were a blast.
Managed to get all my Achievements for that Game back in the day and had a blast playing it with my friend in Co-op.
wow almost watch dogs quality even released years ago .👌
Spartan MYST It's really not. If you play Conviction and Blacklist back to back, you feel how barren and small the levels in Conviction are. Watch Dogs is in an entirely different league. Not even taking the open world aspect of WD in consideration.
I love the SC series, thought Conviction was awesome but I remember seeing the original plan for the hobo Sam Fisher game and thought it looked so good.
I understand and I’m happy with the choice to stay closer to the SC formula but I would like to have seen that game, looked like a Bourne game.
Richard Leadbetter showing his usual Xbox disdain
The enemies in this game are hilarious! The conversations between them and them cussing you out were outstanding. Lol.
And the bad part they dont shut up.
Sony charge for remasters/ colossus is on its what 3rd payed for upgrade lmao for the players loool
What
Lmao you can't even speak English you idiot gtfo. And shadow of the colossus on ps4 is a remake not remaster Sony wouldnt have been able to make the ps4 version of shadow of the colossus look that good if they hadn't remade it
What indeed....! The PS4 SotC is *NOT* a remaster. Completely remade from the ground up. Think FF7. Or even just think, before you stink....up the comment section ! LOOOOOL
@@ShinySilvery that sotc remake would not have looked anywhere as good as it does now if it was just simply backwards compatible with ps4 and had a slight res boost . At least with the remake you can play it in higher resolution with way way better visuals and gameplay controls and 60fps
Expert Gaming HD Absolutely. The original comment poster _thinks_ it is a mere remaster! This remake is substantial with new physics and lighting engine to vastly improve the grass and the colossus fur, along with all those lovely goodies.
Locating and collecting hidden items to reveal a secret zone. That wonderful Easter Egg, and upon completion unlocking the mirrored world. Best of all, the fully featured photo mode and the sumptuous filters that give new atmosphere to the replays. None of any of this being in the original PS2 and PS3 HD/3D remaster of course.
Anyone else notice that if you bring up the Xbox 360 guide while in game on the Xbox One X and scroll to the settings tab there’s an Xbox One X setting that lets you prioritize graphics or performance?
A new Splinter Cell would probably have micro-transactions included to buy stealth mode.
Late PS3/X360 games looks great on modern PCs and Xbox One X. I just played Vanquish for PC and it still looks great!
Better on PC
60 fps, HOORAY!
I remember I got into stealth games because of the early Assassin's Creed's, because of that game I took the stealthy approach in the Far Cry series, Crysis, Dishonored. Then I finally played Splinter Cell Conviction, my favorite stealth game of all time
Xbox is the best box!
Bathroom fightscene has been done to death in movies even before Splintercell. Also projecting memories or text have been done in movies. Lots of movies use projecting text at the start credits.
But the game still has a strong and great presentation.
The original prototype looks like PS4 Pro graphics. 😂
So far better than every Xbox exclusive then.
I found this game on a Canadian dollar store for pc bundled with some other game I think Bulletstorm or something. Great find!
Bulletstorm is awesome
Don't play XBOX!!! It makes no sense. And I'm NOT mad so stop saying that
Stop it Playstationtard you will actually let people to like Xbox more because of your hate
Why you mad pesant?
This guy seems pretty upset.
This game on XB1X has a higher resolution, framerate, and WAY higher Metacritic score than Days Gone on your PS4 Protato.🤣🤣🤣
Why act like someone else get your own identity pathetic loser!
