    Perfect knowledge. You even make the cross guard look simple.

    Fullmer brothers were great guys. Gene gave me a slap the first day I walked into their gym- kept telling me to get my hands up, after that I understood!

    I'm starting to wonder if the reverse cross isn't superior to conventional cross, It's used a lot in muay thai also.

      Its greatness comes from motion.
      If you mix it up from left to right, rear hand up vs lead hand up constantly thowing punches into the new guard position,then you gotta now how great it is.

    Old Foreman and Frazier used to do that. You can turn it to Philly shell position if you touch the ropes and repeat the cross arm style. They use it in bare Knuckle fights also to close the smallest gaps.

    • @aforahnamath7337
      @aforahnamath7337 Рік тому +1

      No they didnt do that the position of the arms its different

      @@aforahnamath7337 thanx for your comment. I wanted to say its a good close range block. Long rage stance AKA irish old school stance is ideal for bare knuckle.

      The Cross Guard is apart of the Philly Shell. Don’t speak if you don’t know what you’re talking about.

      @Wynn Bets don't be rude. I've sparred guys who transitioned from the shell to the cross guard in a fluid motion

    I LOVE this guard. Creed 3 and old George Forman put me on to it, and now I don't stop getting refined recommended videos about it lol

    Thanks a lot coach for another amazing video!
    This is a very interesting technique but the more shocking to me it was the horizontal arm bar defense, it is a very creative way to use it. BTW this defense/parry is called Lan Sao in Wing Chun Kung Fu. Another cue supporting the idea Wing Chun is the Chinese interpretation of old English boxing

  • @getlostlser
    @getlostlser Рік тому +1

    This isn't Gene's version. His was more squared to focus more on setting up the right hand. This is more movement based.

    • @safr-e-hayat
      @safr-e-hayat Рік тому +1

      You are right, Gene's version is simpler than this. Less movements. This could be better if really drilled, just my opinion.

    • @dennit1221
      @dennit1221 11 місяців тому

      Depends on the user.
      If you use it how cross is meant to be used, you can be sure to be very safe against whoever.
      To anwser yopur question. The biggest weakness is range controll, since you are limited if you dont want to open up yourself.

    Why is he practicing defense against a combo that begins with an uppercut? How often does someone lead with a rear hand uppercut?

    • @derimorgan3020
      @derimorgan3020 Рік тому +1

      Because you generally come crouched with this guard so it’s a likely lunch to see coming when you do this.
