- How To Set Up a Right Hand. Use the Double Pivot. Tom Yankello of the @World Class Boxing Channel provides you with a lesson on setting up the right hand off a double pivot. This video focuses on how to set up a right hand by having you use the double pivot. For this video, Tom teaches the move for when an orthodox fighter is boxing a southpaw fighter. For this video, Tom is the southpaw boxer and Danny is fighting in the orthodox stance. The lesson starts with teaching you what to do when coming off the right jab as a southpaw. The orthodox fighter will slip the jab to the outside, which is to his left. As he does this, he drops his left shoulder changing the shoulder trajectory like he is going to throw the left hook to the body. When he drops that shoulder down, he is going to drop to pivot. While he does that he must rotate the ball of the foot. When he slips, he turns his hip clockwise then he pivots and turns his hips and waist the other way. You'll notice the shoulder trajectory then drops back. This effective move was performed by Orlando Canizales when he fought Fernando Ramos. After Tom teaches you the why you want to use this move and shows you how to perform this move, you'll watch a clip of Canizales as he did this move in his fight verse Ramos.

Woah thats very very clever and very practical! I like the areas where you highlight the small details of the footwork the rtation of the hips and so on!
Its the small details that matter when it comes to generating power and being in proper position. Great instruction.
Danny's technique here is brilliant!
Can really see clearly what you are describing every time unlike so many that say one thing and then don't do it!
That detail on the left hook was sweet
I think I seen Miguel cotto do this very slick
This right here every one is why they said boxing is like chess. I love this
Top level professional boxing coach for free on UA-cam! It deosn't get better than this.
Awesome! Very advanced stuff explained in terms that can be understood. Hilarious sound effect at 5:26 x😆
best technical i learn from you coach tom yankello
I always say that the most important instrument in a boxer's bag of tricks are his feet! Thanks to the undisputed champion of coaching! Ps. Looking sharp Dan, keep it up!
Absolutely right.
Crossing back over that center line, Watch out!! .. As always great content.
I'm at work I almost sipped my tea seeing this pivot
This is by far the best channel on UA-cam and I have followed many genres. This channel is simple, yet intricate and the tutorials are at the highest level in both theory and practice. The advice is multi-layered but straight forward so anyone can understand and the content is of the highest standard.
Coach Tom is the very best teacher I have ever come across and I'm sure he can transfer his skills and qualities to successfully teach any subject he chooses.
We need more people like Coach Tom to teach us in all facets of life.
He has a passion to share, the patience to teach and the proficiency to dissect and make hard subjects simple to absorb and understand whilst engendering students to want to go out and practice and study what he's teaching.
The real crime is that Coach doesn't have at least 2 million subscribers.
Thank you for consistently putting out A+++ content in a manner we can all understand and thank you for being humble with all your output.
I've followed your tutorials for a long time now and not once have you blown your own trumpet, even though your credentials are there for all to see.
Good things are around the corner for you and yes, we all love your hard work and output to make us better boxers.
what a sick set up!
Best lesson to PIVOT! Thanks!
Your number 1 supporter here! 👍🙂👏🏻
I really appreciate your videos. I am almost 30 years old and wanted to do amateur boxing out of a small gym in California but never had the time because of the military. It's always good to advance my skills in the comfort of my own garage gym almost 7 years later watching videos from coaches who teach techniques with so much detail.
Thanks master once more! Love the details of positionings
Orlando Canizales some of the footwork in boxing history. He is grossly under appreciated was of the most entertaining champions of last half century. His fights because of the footwork pivoting/shifting & landing punches from the outside & midrange gave of his fans the "wow" effect. I have not seen anything like him.
Ganizales is from my hometown 💯 great coach!
Coach Y - This is a beautiful blend of footwork and punching. Thank you both!
That’s a slick move!
Beautiful moves
9:42 is a real treat
Ive been doing boxing cardio this helps a lot
I love this move thank you for sharing I will get my lads to do this drill
I really love how you focus on the E/W or C/CW of the hips and shoulder angle. You are constantly set up to attack or defend and counter. Based of of that you can chain alot of movements. I really picked up on it with your tutorials that started in the beginning of the pandemic. It seriously improved my shadowboxing, and Im confident my fight IQ as well, when Im finally able to spar again. Appreciate you, Mr. Yankello.
Also at the first pivot point.. he's at a perfect position to land that right hand.. before the opponent turns right to look for him.
Good stuff coach thanks a lot my son is 12 he's a amateur boxer 105lbs in nj fought in the golden gloves last February we need these professional tips to go to the next level thanks again
Great stuff coach. Thanks.
Great tactic! thanks coach
Thank you coach God bless you
I love the video thank you for sharing it. I would like to see a video of how to throw a punch from the feet through the hips and shoulders through the arm to the target. If you could explain how that flow of power works please do
Great breakdown.......👊
You know you have a good coach, when he knows fighters like Orlando Canizales. That's class. Very underrated boxer, never talked about 👌👌👌
Thanks for all the support!👊🏼 I really appreciate it! Please consider sharing the videos. Also for other boxing related information and tips follow me on Instagram @tomyankelloboxing
Lovely !!
Great vid! Thanks coatch!
Another masterclass!!!! Thanks!!!
Nice. I’ve taught a slight step out w the lead foot pivot w same left shoulder drop, while throwing lead left hook to the body. Then sendings straight right cross followed by another lead hook and straight right. Then again repeating and setting into another entry combo.
Sweet!!!
Please collab with fight tips.
best coach
Excellent content. Keep it up
Great video
Boxing is all about brain and foot. All the rest is just for punching and (hopefully) not being hit... Great video, Coach.
Love the sound fx
I replicated all these techniques, I understood everything. Thanks.
I really like this.

Tom quality content as always, it would be awesome a breakdown of how to schedule our home training during the quarantine, shadowbox, what drills, techniques and fundamentals we need to focus on depending on our level. It would be gold in this times, stay safe, thanks for your work coach!
Man your details are uncanny!! I will be getting the fundamentals videos this month!
Very good
Would this work Orthodox vs. Orthodox? Thank you for the consistent attention to detail and hard work. I incorporate a LOT of your work into my training. Not sparring much these days, but I love the art of boxing, especially combined with the science you've been dropping.
This will be in Thursday’s video!
This z really good stuff n very practicable in the ring
Good counter for a Basic southpaw. More experienced Southpaw will either pivot when you pivot or ....Step out of the frame and reset. Or Feint Orthodox with a jab [for Orthodox] to take make that 1st pivot and walk right into a Left Hook.
Always good, coach, thank you. It would be good to see something with Arguello. He had a mean right uppercut to the body.
I like it
Coach, I love your content, and I'm glad that you've decided to share you knowledge with UA-cam.
Have you ever/are you going to cover(ed) Willie Pep's evasive/defensive footwork? His footwork was so unique, got him out of so much trouble and made his opponents look foolish, and it would be great to hear/see your take on it.
Entirely dependent on the opponent following and not stepping out to reposition. Fun trick nonetheless and def a footwork drill that should be done
I like the pivot to the hook much better than pivot to the right hand
Good
Could you do the same thing to the right? Slip right, pivot riot then left, land the cross.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Man this is very knowledgeable and I'm studying this to better my boxing skills I'm boxer Journeymen Kevin Tiger Cooper great stuff.
Liuks kombination!
Nobody does it better coach thanks again for all the knowledge good video I was looking forward to this one. Can you make one braking Juan Manuel Marquez style? Seems like this is a similar style? He used against Pac Man?
Thanks coach and Danny, high level footwork in this chess game of ours. Is there a possibility of a switch step when coming back on the second pivot?
Please: the floor of this room is so cool. What exactly is it made of?
0:01 orthodox against southpaw or southpaw against orthodox
0:15 double pivot to set up rt hand
0:50 slip southpaw jab /dropping shoulder trajactory change like going to body )
1:50 pivot
2:10 explain
2:38 my foot can be at inside or outside against the southpaw for this move
3:14 pivot to rt and throw rt hand
3:25 his foot outside my foot/his foot at in or outside this works
3:42 show it
4:50 weight on lft foot when slip /goes back to rt foot when pivot(everything east west )
5:20 keep weight on rt hip when pivot to rt
5:40 so if oppenent foot is on outside dos 't matter
6:25 bonus :pivot again throw uppercut lft hook
8:16 work feet to get that angle
8:45 when pivot to rt I keep lead shoulder point at target to throw powerful rt hand / or if I turn I throw left uppercut
9:33 shoulder position important
10:45 orthodox or southpaw both works
U help get better every week in sparring maybe one day we could work together
Great video. Loved the pivot. If you are still taking questions. I would like to see more about weight transfer. Where you say should be on back foot is it 70%-30%. But then when punching what’s the ratio then if throwing a jab especially if the front foot is landing at the time of punch. Does it remain the same or swap directly? Cheers Coach Yankello, loving hearing your description of boxing 101
Roy Jones will be in good hand hopefully he'll put up iron Mike a good fight.
Of course there's no doubt.... Roy can step in tonight and win, he is a consummate professional so that's why he has got his team back. Even if it goes the distance he will be rapping at the finish.
With no head movement. Tyson is a monster at 53 and theres no stopping him. "In my opinion"
Hopefully they dont get hurt just try not get hit blocking
James Portillo of course, that’s boxing in general lol if you not moving ya head you’re bound to get knocked out. Even the iron Mike gotta keep that head moving
👍✊👍

Hi
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🥊🥊🥊🥊
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Very good break down thank you! And to whoever added the audio effects: 😂😂😂😂👏👏 Good job! I heard that right hand hit the coach. 😜😂 Q: what's the most efficient method for an outside fighter to still get an uppercut on the target? If the opponent is quite shorter, would it even be part of their strategy in that case? If that sounds like a stupid question, well, I'm Boxing stupid. 😂
If you like to fight on the backfoot you can set up the rear uppercut behind your jab or your hook, if you wanna use the front uppercut set it up after your right hand straight i.e 1 2 5 ( the 5 is your front uppercut )
What about the right cross
Does it make sense to throw a hook off the second pivot? I do that a lot. Throw hooks off pivots. It keeps me fluid and busy. If you would advise it in this sequence, how would you do it? Could you please do a video on throwing punches while pivoting and while moving?
Hey I have a question Tom, how should you breathe in boxing, should you exhale with every slip/roll/pivot, can I exhale with my punches with my nose, or is it more optimal to use mouth exhales?
Does this only work against southpaw?
Coach can you answer me please i saw your viedios from the beginning and in the second viedeo you say that the back foot have to be at 90 degrees what about mike tyson stance shoud it be at 90 degrees too or 45 degrees?
does this work against an orthodox?
6:07
So he’s playing basketball a little
don't mean to sound snarky but why do you guys keep your lead shoulder above the rear?
It’s a more defensive position that helps hide the head
Why doesn't he just throw the straight right over the jab while he is slipping? Why slip, pivot then pivot back to you original position hoping that your opponent has made one very specific, kind of weird movement.
Why not hit him after the first pivot than pivot back and hit him again
PAULSPOWER everything in boxing has risk, you could hit nothing after the second pivot if the guy moves back and out of range
@@LLJR watch the the footage @ 11:20. Its different techniques. He is ducking low for safety
@PAULSPOWER actually the technique is very slow. The face is open after the first pivot. He face left as he slipped then face back to the right and leaving the face open for the left hook or left cross or overhand left. You don't want to used this first pivot against Manny Paquaio's 1 - 2 - 3.
Try this with a partner
@PAULSPOWER take note the tutorial was different compare to the original technique in the footage @ 11:20. The boxer step to left first with his left before the pivot for some space then duck low while pivoting back to the right for safety.
That's is bad strategy you're gonna get countered by a straight from southpaw stance as you pivid
Very good
