Because we live in a right-handed society I just want you to know that you're absolutely my hero 😭😭 I've come across a lot of other good crocheting videos but this is the only one I've seen that teaches left-handers. I was trying to use my dominant hand and it didn't work and I got frustrated. So thank you so much for this
As a lefty, I was curious so I came snooping and landed here. I was taught right-handed as a child and I think it would just feel unnatural at this point for me personally. But I am so very glad this exists and is helping others.
Thank you for a well done, informative, and clearly understandable video for left handed crochet. I just had surgery on my right arm and can't crochet like I usually do so instead of sitting idle I'm trying your video to go leftie. Thanks again
Started doing this yesterday and watched a load of videos but still didn’t understand how to do it until I watched your video and found it so easy to do
I am right handed, but needed to learn for my left handed students. I have tried a lot of left handed tutorials and found I couldn't keep the thread round the hook when pulling through. Your method of holding the yarn worked like a charm!
Your are my lord and savior I’m trying to lean crochet and could only find right handed vids I’m so happy I found your channel and it’s very clear for my dumb mind 😭
Thank you for sharing! I am still q novice by some standards and I could never hold my yarn the "classic " way. Thanks for letting me know, that the way I hold my yarn is perfectly OK, because is what works for me. 😊
Just found this and sooooo happy I did. My mom crocheted for as long as I can remember and I am 55 yo and I am left handed, she was right. So for her to teach me was very difficult. I would sit in front of her while she tried to teach me but got frustrated, so I could really only do a chain and not much else. Well, she is gone now 10 years. I had gotten some of her yarn, hooks, craft stuff and other unfinished projects. So one night I thought that I would try (last winter) it again and not thinking about checkin UA-cam as you can learn just about anything here. So I thought that I would could at least make a dish cloth. Wound up being something totally different. Lol😂 It turned out to be and use it for a cast iron handle hot pad … worked out fantastic and was really created by mistake. Anyways, last summer my dad came to spend a bit of time with me and he saw my handle hotpad and LOVED it. He asked to make him one and a hot pad in purple as that was my mama’s favorite color. I did and he loved it so much that he wants another. I started to make another two nights ago and this time in lavender. Well, cause I just “winged it” the first time I thought I could just whip one out again. Well, didnt go so well. 😂😂😂 I did indeed crochet something but wasnt what I intended. It looks more like a soft glasses case. About 5” inches long and two inches wide. So a little too big for the handle of a cast iron pan. So I thought I would ask my MIL, I found a free pattern for a pot holder and thought I would tackle that as dad wanted one of those too. And to my surprise, I looked at the pattern instructions and it was ALL Greek … 😅 had to asked my MIL if she could translate to English. So she send me some stuff and I was perplexed even more cause I didn’t know what all of it meant- so I did a search and found this and it being left handed and how you have shown how to do it real slow so that I can follow is PERFECT. Thank you for taking the time to make this video as it brought back good tears and memories of me and my mama that I will cherish forever even though as a kid getting frustrated. Now I think about her looking down on me while making something useful that she tried to teach and thinking that she must be watching down on me and how proud she is (even though a lot of time has past), that I am still trying. I will quit rambling now and find some more of your videos to learn from THANK YOU.
Thank you for this! My mom is a lefty and has always wanted to learn so now I'm learning how to do this left handed so I can teach her the next time she comes over
I think I finally got it. Right handed crocheted for over 45 years but want to use left handed instead of turning my project each row. Practice makes perfect (or better at least.)
I’ve been crocheting for YEARS. (I’m right handed.) I learned in 2007. I tried to teach a left handed friend today. Little did I know how much my dominant hand matters. When I reversed my hands’ roles today, I felt like I had started over from zero. It was awful!
I wish I could've found a tutorial back when I was learning how to crochet 😅 I couldn't ever hold it with my right hand, so I just studied the way the hook worked when people crochet with their right hands and made sure my hook did exactly the same thing when I used my left. So I work from the back side of the project lol. I insert the hook from back to front, yarn over from the front instead of behind, and when patterns say blo I use front loops and vice versa 😅
I am saving your video I love your style I have been struggling for a bit to do a simple square of the first stitch this afternoon you have given me a ray of hope and I will try again this evening you explain things professional real simple and demonstrating perfectly please keep up the good work I think I now stand a chance thanks to finding your video today 100 percentage 10 outta ten can I share here if its successful later please ..?
I learned to crochet in the 70s. I am right handed but i have arthritis now and sometimes it hurts when I crochet, so I tried to teach myself to do it with my left hand. I was not successful, but you have made it look really easy. Thank you.
Hey! Thank you so much for this video. Do you have one on understanding patterns for lefties? I've seen loads I want to try but I'm struggling to get it x
Keep trying 🙂. I’m not a lefty but I was interested to watch the process. It took me a Few tries (Capitol f) to get the hang of crocheting. But once it clicked, it was like learning to ride a bike!
Left ambidextrous returning from a tbi.. I know once I get left back I'll be ambidextrous again but goddess relearning your dominant hand is so difficult. Slow patience I guess.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I find I keep getting stuck on the single crochet part where the two loops are too tight to get my hook through, any tips?
Sounds like you are pulling too hard on the yarn that the other hand is holding. If you loosen your hold on it, you'll make looser stitches so that the hook can go through.
Working with a crochet hook and holding the yarn all at the same time can be tough. Might I suggest one of my finger crochet videos instead, which use the same stitches, but use your fingers instead of a crochet hook. I'm going to assume since you are watching the left hand video, you are left handed. If so, this is my left hand crochet video for finger crochet: ua-cam.com/video/rm-CeZkHVZY/v-deo.html If you need the right hand version, let me know!
The only time it makes a difference if you are right or left handed is when doing some (but not all) clothing patterns. For example, a sleeve might be asymmetrical - larger on the right side and smaller on the left side. You might just have to reverse patterns like that in your head, especially if a certain stitch needs to face outwards. In my experience most clothing patterns are written with right-handedness in mind. Other than that most everything else is either symmetrical (so it doesn't matter) or irrelevant if it's reversed (like a dog's face on an applique might face to the left instead of to the right).

@@naztazia omg thank you! This is such a wonderful video ❤️
Ty I needed this
What exactly would you call this pattern a single stitch crochet???
The stitch is generally called a "single crochet" oftentimes abbreviated as "SC" in patterns.
I have A question when you are finished with your work do you have to weave it with a needle or can you just cut off the end after that last chain
It's best to weave all ends in with a needle to secure them and keep them from unraveling.
Awesome vid for left-handers...not so much for right-handers. Would be best to annotate this in your title 🙂
Idc if I’m doing mine right or wrong as long as I’m making something and having fun that’s all that matters
Absolutely!!!
how can i keep my stitches straight?
Did the slip knot but I just can’t get how to do the chain stitch it’s so so difficult help
