Hey! Alex Sharpe here (former Celtic Woman) I’m the girl in the deep blue/green dress in the video. Thank you SO MUCH for such an awesome review. David Downes is the arranger and composer for all the music pre 2016, this is his arrangement and he’s honestly the major component behind the success of Celtic Woman. Thanks again for sharing. 🥰
Holy cow! Alex thanks so much for stopping by! You ladies are awesome and make me want to get up and dance with yall! There will be many more Celtic Woman reactions coming soon!
I love how each song involves every singer and every woman has a different role. You were amazing in this song. It is one of my favorites and the choreography is perfect. So much energy!
I am so shocked by this response from Celtic Woman. Makes my heart burst with happiness. I absolutely love them. My favorite group ever. This just made my year.
I have seen Celtic Woman three times, and although i love all their voices, my favorite group of them was from my first concert (2005). It included Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Orla Fallon, Meav Mhaolebatha, and Mairead Nesbitt (the violinist). One of the songs from their cd titled Celtic Woman includes "May It Be" from the Lord of the Rings movie. All the songs are beautifully performed! Please, more Celtic Woman. Your enthusiasm is contagious!! Have an awesome week!
It is pronounced Keltic with with the hard "C" sound, rather than the soft "C" used for Boston basketball players. They have toured in the United States. I remember hearing a local ad for their appearance in Shreveport several years ago, and I know the Arkansas' PBS station has given away free tickets for other performances in the region. I enjoyed watching your reaction to this great group.
Solo singer: Mary Black performing "Song For Ireland". The woman is a national treasure. 🎶 Living on your western shore Saw summer sunsets, asked for more I stood by your Atlantic Sea And sang a song for Ireland 🎶
As one of those who recommended this, I am glad you finally got to it. This is my favorite song that they've done and this is my favorite performance of it for a far too complicated reason to explain here.
Go down this rabbit hole, Jay! I played their song "Goodnight My Angel" for both my boys to put them to sleep as infants. Both the C's are pronouced as K's, also. Every song is a grand performance. Love these performers so much. As good as anyone on the planet.
The fiddle player is Mairead Nesbitt. She is amazing. I saw them for my 30th anniversary at Slane Castle in Boyne Valley, Ireland and also saw them at the Times Union Center here in Jacksonville, FL. Such amazing performers. The group does change, though, but they are always amazing.
The soft "c" (seltic) sound is usually reserved for sports teams now, like the Boston Celtics. The hard "c" (keltic) comes from language historians as of its Greek and Classical Latin origins, the Greeks called the Celtic tribes of Northern Italy "Kelts" and traditional Celtic enamelled jewellery they called "Keltica".
Níl Sé an Lá (pronounced kneel shay on law) means This is not the day literally or probably more accurately Not Today. Tír na nÓg (pronounced Tier Naa nogue) means land of youth. Comes from an Irish legend about the land of eternal youth
Also Please don't forget to check out: Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - Candy Man (Both Great Horns !!) Also - Lady Marmalad Annie Lenox (Eurythmics) - Would I Lie to You - I Need a Man - Thorn in My Side Gwen Stefanie - It's My Life - What You Waiting For Shikira - When ever Where ever - Objection Tango Head Pins - Don't it Make You Feel (like Dancing) - Turn it Loud - Just One More Time Toronto - Your Daddy Don't Know - Start Telling the Truth
They have performed in the US before. I remember finding out that they had one time performed at Radio City in NY. I didn't go unfortunately because I was busy with other stuff at the time. If you want to watch a solo performance of the violinist here, I recommend reacting to Granuaile's Dance. It's SO amazing and it makes you want to get up and dance with her (at least that's how I get when I listen to the track and watch the video)
Hayley Westenra - "God Defend New Zealand" national anthem 2011 rugby union world cup final New Zealand versus France at Eden Park Auckland, New Zealand. The first verse is in maori, the second verse is in english. Hayley joined Celtic Woman for their second album.
I saw them in concert years ago and loved it. If you want to try some other Irish music, I’d recommend Clannad (“Theme from Harry’s Game” for more traditional or “In a Lifetime “ which is a duet with Bono of U2) or The Corrs (“Toss the Feathers “ traditional instrumental or “So Young” more modern)
Yes they come to the US on tours. The ladies are all different then in this video. Lisa Kelly and Chloe were the last of the original ladies. Chloe has come back
Celtic Woman do tour the US. I have always wished I could go see them in concert, but something always happened to prevent me from going. I do have several of their CDs. You can go to their web site to get their touring schedule.
Celtic Woman - The Voice. Sang by Lisa Kelly and accompanied by Mairead Nesbitt on violin. Lisa's voice so pure and clear and Mairead dancing around like a little sprite, blending her music seamlessly with Lisa's vocals. Goosebumps every time.
I must admit, i've had a crush on Lisa Kelly (5:47), ever since I watched the first CW special, on PBS. In the early to mid 2000s. When i was in my mid-20s.
Níl Sé’n Lá can have two meanings. The first is "It's not yet day" and the second is "Dance with me". I believe it's in Irish or Gaeilge (gwayl-guh). The title is roughly pronounced Neel Sh-eh-n Law. This song is also known as "The Fiddler Woman's Dance" If you want some other Irish language songs to look up I would highly recommend both Seo (Shaw) Linn - more of a folk traditional band and Kneecap - a rap trio from West Belfast in the north of Ireland. Both groups are great. I'll come back and try to help with title translations if needed, even though I'm a fairly new Irish learner myself
Love them! I actually got to see them do their annual Christmas show in Georgia. They were fantastic. The name of the group is definitely pronounced Kale-tik. That's the way they say it in Ireland 😍
Great song, thanks! Another of songs you might want to check out is "I See Fire." This song was originally released on the soundtrack for the movie "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and written and performed by Ed Sheeran. Both versions are excellent. Another great version of "Níl Sé’n Lá" is by the group Clannad, an Irish band made up of multiple members from a family. They've done many great songs ranging from traditional Irish songs to more contemporary Celtic and pop music. Well worth checking out.
This group is VERY good - & reminds me of Riverdance. Celtic Woman (pronounced "KEL-tic") focuses MORE on the Irish singing (which IS really well done), in their PERFORMANCE, whereas Riverdance is really ALL about Irish dance in their PERFORMANCE. (Riverdance DOES still tour & is going to be in North America again from Jan. - July apparently.) You may be interested in that one too because [at least in past parts of them I have seen], they were fantastic. I don't know what they would cost, but it may be something your girls would really like too if they were coming by near you & the tickets were affordable enough. You should try a UA-cam clip from them & see what they are about. There are very strong similarities in their performance style to Celtic Woman. Have a good weekend, J. & everybody else too. (I am feeling sorry that I have come to the end of your picks for tonight, J. You did 3 really good ones.)
Hi Jay, they have one concert coming up on April 27 and it’s in Sugarland Tx. Of course it won’t be these women because that was in the early 2000s. Hope you get to go, and maybe film a little of it!
You might want to check out "Toss the Feathers" by the Corrs (an Irish group I think you have already reacted to). They also did "Rebel Heart", a beautiful instrumental song with celtic influences.
My husband and I have seen them twice. The performers we saw each time were Lisa Kelly, Maev, Orla, Chloe, and I believe Hayley in one of them. Of course, the sprite (as my husband calls her), Mairead, was there, also, playing the violin beautifully. :) They were wonderful!
I am SO thrilled you got to this one. First, it's a hard C for Celtic for every use EXCEPT sports teams. The K for Keltoi came from the original Greek name for the tribal folk. Second, it's Neel shayn law - which means 'not a day' - as in, don't worry about it now, time to party! I've seen them twice in concert in Florida, and they are always amazing. It's always an incredible powerful, polished production.
If you're into this kind of performance then I suggest you search around for your local Scottish highland games. Yes, it's Scottish games but they often incorporate Irish artists and performers since the cultures, music, and languages are very similar.
Nothing like a good harmony. You want to hear some country and r&b Harmony, you should listen to. In case you didn't know by Brett young featuring Boyz II Men. You can only get the live version. On, country crossroads, but it's absolutely fantastic❤
Yes, they do USA tours. I was fortunate enough to see them for their 10 year anniversary tour.look them up on their website to see when they may be in your area. Also, hands down my favorite done by them is The Parting Glass. m.ua-cam.com/video/vlKisQL2eOY/v-deo.html&pp=ygURdGhlIHBhcnRpbmcgZ2xhc3M%3D
Hi Jay! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I have to say I've never of this group, but I love them. Is there a Scottish connection, as you mentioned or are they purely Irish and Northern Irish? By the way, as for the Celtic pronunciation, we normally say Celtic as in Celt. It's not pronunced as "Seltic" unless we are talking about the Glasgow football team, which is also spelt as Celtic too, which can be confusing. 🙏
Just for shites and giggles, can you imagine this being your job? Rehearsing everyday until you go to work. Which is your job, doing this day after day. ❤ some ppl seem so charmed
Is it just me, or are these women in their long flowing dresses much more sexually appealing than the modern trend of no clothes and grinding. This was a dazzling performance. Thanks Jay, you made me smile. ✌️
I wanted to just throw out a request to you of a song by Steelheart. You know them from Angel Eyes(I never let you go). It's called Sticky Side Up. It is fun and just an all around great tune. Shows a little different side of them. I think you would appreciate and enjoy it. Sorry of any misspellings but I have neuropathy in my hands
Greetings from the heart of South America, Paraguay, I would like you to react to a tremendous band, unfortunately of short existence, but which has left this masterful song, I am referring to the band GTR with the song When The Heart Rules The Mind...
I first heard them while channel surfing and wasn't sure I wasn't dying when I heard these ANGELS singing! The video you're watching was filmed at Sloan Castle. The heavy blonde is CHLOE and she has greatly slimmed down and is absolutely stunning! Just an observation, am I the only one convinced the fiddle player isn't an elf or sprite?
I highly recommend more Celtic Woman. The Voice is one of my favorites. You Raise me Up, The Parting Glass, Siúil a Run (walk, my love), Amazing Grace. Dúlaman, Caleonia (always makes me cry), Scarborough Fair, Orinoco Flow (an Enya top hit). Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears is about the first person to go through Ellis Island, an Irish girl name Annie. O, America! is great. At the Céili (Céili is a party). Óró sé do bheatha 'bhaile is a classic. Mo Ghile Mar. Carol of the Bells. Wild Muntain Thyme. Pie Jesu. They do a lot of traditional tunes, livening them up with modern sounds/arrangements. They do some covers, as well.
My personal favourite Celtic Woman performance is "Teir Abhaile Riu" here on YT ua-cam.com/video/1g7XO7gICAo/v-deo.html. It has great crowd interaction and some proper Irish dancing as well.
Years ago I saw them in concert in OKC. They will be in Sugarland Texas (Southwest of Houston.) and Longview Texas (East of Dallas, South West of Texarkana) 2019 is the last time they came to Oklahoma. Another "Female Friday" singer you should watch is Mean Mary. I recommend her song "Iron Horse". She is one of the best banjo players I've seen in a while.
In this case and the case of Celtic Thunder (essentially the male equivalent of “Celtic Woman” the “C” is pronounced as it would be in words like “can”, “cat”, “catch”, “cake”, etc.
Jay, have you checked out any of Grace Potter's songs? A definite must for "Female Friday"! Her songs Stars, The Lion the beast the beat are 2 good ones to start with
Awhile back you did the Bellamy Brothers song old hippie and i mentioned there was also a part 2 AND a part 3 to that song in which the performers sing with a 10 years passing perspective from their first song through the third. PLEASE listen to all THREE here: ua-cam.com/video/tJt4v3agH0M/v-deo.html
You need to check out ONE OK ROCK. They’re a Japanese rock band, the lead singer has an amazing voice!! Start with We Are (Ambitions Japan Dome Tour), Make It Out Alive (1Chance festival), or Dystopia. You will immediately become a fan 😊
I would recommend reacting to Nova Twins - Antagonist (Official Music Video). They are a fantastic alternative metal band with a black female singer who I think you would love.
I raised 184k and Anna Kathleen Sanford is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Anna K. Sanford is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!

So awesome!!! I'm mostly German (by heritage) but this music ALWAYS touches something deep in my soul.

The blond violinist is Mairead Nesbitt. Sigh! 😍
You need to do Clannad & Bono In a lifetime, great song

Another great group is Celtic Thunder. They are an all male group and sing a lot of contemporary songs as well as Celtic songs.
Also; The High Kings.
Celtic Thunder is great as well.
The Celtic women are great. Beautiful voices. “The Voice” “Scarborough Fair” are a couple other songs worth hears!
Such beautiful voices, I love it when they sing in Gaelic.
Irish, not Gaelic.
@Reyne-fb7mj they sing in Gaelic as well or at least they used to.

😊😊😊 oh so happy, you'll love it
Níl Sé an Lá (pronounced kneel shay on law) means
This is not the day literally or probably more accurately Not Today.
Tír na nÓg (pronounced Tier Naa nogue) means land of youth. Comes from an Irish legend about the land of eternal youth
Also to say, good to see you going strong.
Also Please don't forget to check out:
Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - Candy Man (Both Great Horns !!) Also - Lady Marmalad
Annie Lenox (Eurythmics) - Would I Lie to You - I Need a Man - Thorn in My Side

Oh, “Seltic” is the basketball team. “Keltic” is for the culture
If anyone ever gets a chance to see them in concert, DO IT! Wonderful show, beautiful and moving.
It's pronounced Kel tick It's an old Irish language word. We mispronounced it and say Sell. tick.
I have been lucky to see them in concert twice. I have always enjoyed their shows.
Yes they come to the States every year I think. They are an ensamble group, meaning they change members.
Saw them live. They put on a terrific show.
You need to watch the fiddler, Mairead Nesbitt, perform “Granuaile's Dance.” She’s as enchanting as a fairy.

I love it that y’all are so willing to listen to so diversity music
Celtic Woman - The Voice. Sang by Lisa Kelly and accompanied by Mairead Nesbitt on violin. Lisa's voice so pure and clear and Mairead dancing around like a little sprite, blending her music seamlessly with Lisa's vocals. Goosebumps every time.
Song is all-night partying, and the chorus reminding us it isn't morning yet!
Saw them in Memphis a few years ago... so awesome! Appreciate you J!
I must admit, i've had a crush on Lisa Kelly (5:47), ever since I watched the first CW special, on PBS. In the early to mid 2000s. When i was in my mid-20s.

"Ride On" a beautiful song by the 'Celtic Woman' is definetly worth checking out.💋👠🎤🎻🎵🎶💎
Wait … I remember the first one ? 😂 ❤. Love the reaction. I member
My husband and I saw them live in Birmingham, Alabama. It was one of the most awesome concerts I’ve ever been to!
They have been to the US many times! I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and they have been here at least twice. Unfortunately, never got to see them. 😫
Makes me want to hear some Enya
Now try Celtic Thunder. A male group. My favorite of theirs is a song called Place in the choir. Very fun and upbeat🎶🐕 🐱 🐄 🐦
Love them! I actually got to see them do their annual Christmas show in Georgia. They were fantastic. The name of the group is definitely pronounced Kale-tik. That's the way they say it in Ireland 😍
My husband and I saw them once at Christmas-time in Georgia, too, if I remember correctly! It was a number of years ago, but they were amazing!

I have seen them live twice and even though they change up the line up of performers, they are always fabulous!
Love your reactions ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
These women I have seen on PBS before. They are great!! Fantastic Thank you for sharing Jay
I like to see you smille. Great react 😊
Hard C !
I actually saw them live in Corpus Christi Texas
I am SO thrilled you got to this one. First, it's a hard C for Celtic for every use EXCEPT sports teams. The K for Keltoi came from the original Greek name for the tribal folk. Second, it's Neel shayn law - which means 'not a day' - as in, don't worry about it now, time to party! I've seen them twice in concert in Florida, and they are always amazing. It's always an incredible powerful, polished production.
Hayley Westenra - "Pie Jesu".
If you're into this kind of performance then I suggest you search around for your local Scottish highland games. Yes, it's Scottish games but they often incorporate Irish artists and performers since the cultures, music, and languages are very similar.
Yep, I've been to many in Dunedin FL and went to a few in Dublin, Ohio.
Nothing like a good harmony. You want to hear some country and r&b Harmony, you should listen to. In case you didn't know by Brett young featuring Boyz II Men. You can only get the live version. On, country crossroads, but it's absolutely fantastic❤
Chloe Nixon was 14 when she joined the group.
That’s Chloe Agnew.
Yes, they do USA tours. I was fortunate enough to see them for their 10 year anniversary tour.look them up on their website to see when they may be in your area. Also, hands down my favorite done by them is The Parting Glass.

If you haven’t already you should check out Celtic Thunder
Just for shites and giggles, can you imagine this being your job? Rehearsing everyday until you go to work. Which is your job, doing this day after day. ❤ some ppl seem so charmed
Is it just me, or are these women in their long flowing dresses much more sexually appealing than the modern trend of no clothes and grinding. This was a dazzling performance. Thanks Jay, you made me smile. ✌️
Cool song❤❤❤❤
I do enjoy their rendition of Spanish Lady and I encourage you to check it out
Don't know if they do it every year but I saw them at NJPac a few years ago near St Patrick's day.
Since you liked them, I have a suggestion for you. HEATHER DALE, she is a Canadian Indy celtic artist with similarities to Loreena McKennitt.
Try the jazz/improv version by Clannad.

O, America!
Ya gotta watch 'at the ceili'
Go to there website they'll show dates for there performances
Celtic is pronounced with a hard c, like a k. Unless of course you are a basketball team. That's the only time that you say it the wrong way.
Its called a Jig. 3:46
The song is pronounced ."kneel shay law" translated to Its not Day.
My personal favourite Celtic Woman performance is "Teir Abhaile Riu" here on YT ua-cam.com/video/1g7XO7gICAo/v-deo.html. It has great crowd interaction and some proper Irish dancing as well.
Suggestion for you…Yuve Yuve Yu by The Hu. Mongolian throat singers and their what I’m assuming are traditional Mongolian instruments.

Hard K in Celtic. You should check out Paddy Gurdy’s I am with you, feat Marko (Nightwish )
Next Friday please do
ARCH ENEMY
The Eagle Flies Alone
The lead singer is a blue collar metal goddess with angelic voice
You wont be disappointed
You have to hear this :
Adriano Celentano - Prisencólinensináinciúsol
You'd like the Celtics thunder which is the mens group!! WESOME
"Celtic women"
Yet sing everything in English 😂
Throwing Josh Groban’s name out there, as well as Il Divo

She plays the violin while singing and dancing.
I would recommend reacting to Nova Twins - Antagonist (Official Music Video). They are a fantastic alternative metal band with a black female singer who I think you would love.

Retiring this year, $82K biweekly, this video reminds me of my life in 2023, you have really inspired me in so many ways!!❤️
I’m feeling truly inspired.
Can you provide additional insights about the bi-weekly subject you mentioned?
I raised 184k and Anna Kathleen Sanford is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Anna K. Sanford is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!
Whoa 😲 I know her too!
Miss Anna Kathleen Sanford is an incredible person who has brought immense inspiration and positivity into my life.
