It's Irish dancing. It is century's old One learns Irish dancing at a very young age , starting at about 3 or 4 years old, like ballet, and one must keep practising to become a professional like these dancers.
The aesthetics around the competitions are horrible though. Lovely dresses but the girls are made up like clowns - its insane that it hasn't been changed. Slapping tan, garish makeup and terrible wigs on kids have them looking like those beauty pageant kids in America.
I got to see Michael Flatley in Lord of the Dance in Australia twice. My baby girl was so obsessed by Michael Flatley that he not only became her invisible friend, but she taught herself to Irish dance by the time she was 3, we had Riverdance and The Lord of the Dance on a VHS tape and she watched it all day on repeat. Sweet memories.

Don’t like the invisible viewing, Michael Flatley is an American former professional performer and choreographer of Irish dance. Flatley is credited with reinventing traditional Irish dance by incorporating new rhythms, syncopation, and upper body. Born in 1958 his feet were at one time insured for $57.6 million, he retired from dancing in 2016. The dancers were from Ireland.
Nah he created river dance he didn't reinvent irish dance those Irish dance competitions are still the same you can't use river dance or tap dancing when in irish dancing This is not irish dancing its the new creation river dance another form of irish dancing but not called irish dancing because we already have irish dancing and that won't change its strict af Irish dancing is one thing river dance is another which you could not use if doing actual irish dancing
Michael Flatley holds the world record for tapping his feet. Believe it is in the Guiness record. He moved to Ireland , bought the Flatley "Castle" and restored it to its original state. He definitely is a work of art in dancing.
Riverdance is Irish dancing. It is a percussive dance. Tap dance, also a percussive dance is American. Here's a clip of the famous Nicholas Brothers tap dancing with Cab Calloway, from the movie Stormy Weather, filmed in 1943. It was originally in black and white. This is the colorized version. Enjoy!

“Riverdance” took traditional Irish instruments, especially the wide variety of Irish drums and percussion instruments, and traditional Irish dance techniques, with Irish-style music, and added some modern and other influences to create this stunning piece which won awards and toured the world for years. The Irish tradition is to minimize arm movements and keep the arms mostly downward. Women learn 2 styles of dance, one with soft shoes and the other like the men’s - with hard shoes with taps on the bottom. Many Irish dance groups today have incorporated dance styles and percussion instruments from many international cultures and have expanded their tap-dance techniques, while still teaching the traditional steps.
The Riverdance company travelled with their own physiotherapists, because such intense dancing is hard on a body. Especially if the stage floor is not a properly sprung dance floor.
Ooops this is primarily traditional Irish dance mixed with some other styles to give it more appeal. The English have some similar dancing styles such as clog dancing, but this style is more pleasing to modern tastes. The lead dancer Michael Flatley is also the choreographer of this and several other famous dances, he is an American. .
FYI for future plans and I hope you'll do loads on Ireland it's music dance songs history and culture please remember our history...we were colonised by Great Britain before that time we were a celtic druid country and then Christianity came until 1500's the history from that time is extremely painful and emotional...it took 800 yrs and war to get rid of the English so we are very very offended when people call us English...we are Irish my country is Eire, Ireland or the Republic of Ireland...England still has hold of the northern part of our Island and it's been so horrible with death injuries and massive sectarian devides that have caused so much pain and bitterness but we are in a time of peace now but every Irish man woman and child prays for the day the country is whole again but only through peaceful means ...thank you for sharing
Love your reactions guys, but could you make the screen view less transparent? It's hard to see the video along with your reactions :) Greetings from New Zealand :)
the stage is solid steel and there is multiple gas burners under the metal, they ignite the burners so the metal gets red hot and you end up having to lift your feet off the hot metal the steel tips also help you from burning your feet

I have heard similar stories. Also that for a while, the English landlords prohibited the Irish from dancing, so they learned to stay behind the stone walls or hedges/bushes which were all a part of Irish farmlands, and move only their feet but as the English landlords rode past, they couldn’t see the Irish were dancing. I have no idea if any of these stories are true.
@@Roboto2073 👍 reminds me of the stories, which I believe are more verifiable, that the reason so few Irish cottages/farmhouses have windows, is that windows were taxed, so the Irish built as few windows as possible, and had the half-doors, to allow for fresh air, light and circulation. I think other European cities taxed property based on the number of windows it had.
