For their own sake they should stay away, not demand everyone else to adapt to their sensitivities.
The proverb "The pen is mightier than the sword" has a new hilarious secondary meaning.

The opening basically is Dev saying "TL:DR: I don't like her but this is still bs"
It’s actually pretty big of him.
@horatiusromanus if you think that is big, you are dealing with nothing but emotional children. It is basic maturity.
I hate to say it but “volunteer employees” seems like a trap when they all have the same political stance.
It's also that most volunteers seem to be raging activists too - almost like nornal people with lives have jobs and things to take care of. Stereotype of jobless, terminally online social reject living with their parents is scarily accurate 😂
I used to be a volunteer for a convention until my friends and I expressed discomfort with a new "boss" who constantly mocked us. We all got booted.
My point is, nobody I know would ever complain about a guest. You don't like a guest? You don't have to work with them. Just do something else, there's tons of work to do for a con. Nobody's forcing you to work with this one guest you happen to dislike.
Trying to volunteer is super annoying if you are on the right. Most cons are super prog run. These people have a lot more free time than you to do this stuff so good luck competing for space.
I mean, I was a volunteer at a local con until they nixed the concept of volunteers and had to have everyone move up to staff or something. Served as staff for a year but got ousted because of an opinion on something.

To me, what really sparked the drama wasn't Kirsche per say, but Pippa.
In essence, within the chat logs Kirsche got OffKai to admit that they wanted to bar Pippa from the event. Phase Connect is an all or nothing company, so instead of barring Pippa, they got rid of the volunteers who were offended by Pippa.
This goes to show that those volunteers don't know Pippa all that well, (She acts edgy but is more left leaning then she lets on.), and that they only respect a company. Especially when Phase Connect helped cover for their artist galley costs this year, which sort of implies that Phase Connect got the convention going again this year.
I mean, shoot, the worst Kirsche would do at that convention is haze everyone with sounding and desk ketchup.
I think a lot of folks in online spaces that are mostly sane people lean lefter than the edgy jokes would suggest. I think that is okay and fairly normal
@@flavortown3781 That's why the term "terminally online" exists. It's not really about how much you are online in a sense of physical time, but the "terminally online" are the people who don't distinguish between someone's online persona and their real personality. The vast, vast majority of people online simply will not act the same way they do online in person, they will make jokes they wouldn't make in polite company, etc.
To the terminally online, no such distinction exists, and someone like Pippa is a "fascist" because she's fairly conservative and makes edgy jokes without caring about the feelings of Twitter randoms she doesn't know. I'm the same way, though I'm probably much more Left than Pippa, and *I* get labeled Fascist by those people all the same. They make no distinction towards real people, it's all just online bogeymen.
@@HellbirdIV those people don't know what humor is
@@flavortown3781 Absolutely. On the Left it's exemplified by the maxim that jokes "must punch up". The implication is that jokes cannot simply be jokes, but must represent what someone *actually* feels.
Pippa is more left-wing than she tends to let on, people just THINK she's right-wing because she's insanely paranoid and thinks lots of people are feds, something normally more associated with right-wing whackjobs. But anyone who makes the Pop-Tart argument that she did, isn't really all that conservative. Also because she's pro-cop, something people usually don't associate with the left these days (but then, the people obsessed with federal agents also tend to not be pro-cop).
"I dont know what this title is saying, but I bet it's fascist"
“If they could read, they’d be upset with you.”

Conventions have been awful for well over a decade. Back in 2008/9 Jessica Nigiri's dudebro fans who had zero interest in anime or anything else related to conventions would follow her around causing issues and harassing attendees in ways that upset the otherwise relaxed feel that most conventions had when it came to people interacting with each other. A couple of years of this BS lead to the rise of "cosplay is not consent" and "Don't be a creeper" being posted all over and increasingly draconian codes of conduct being instituted in the conventions.
Younger people will say this was all in response to the homestuck craze in 2011ish but this was already well in the works and homestuck's fandom only gave them the excuse to institute all of the BS at once.
And here I thought it was caused by the whining of pretentious career cosplayers who went to conventions but didn't like randos asking for pics.
@@darwinxavier3516 They were part of the equation, but more in a way that they were taking advantage of a situation.
One of the best things about conventions was taking candid photos of cosplayers. Who doesn't want to say they got themselves a snapshot of Sailor Moon eating a burger? It's all in good fun and when you're in public in a costume it's literally expected.
The small group of cosplayers who had chips on their shoulders and didn't like that took the opportunity of the changes in policy to be a vocal minority and get "no candid photos" put into the discourse in the same vein as taking upskirt shots.
@@patterofheads256 I'm so upset I missed the golden age of cons. There were none in my city at the time, so I just had to live through them via early youtube videos. The atmosphere was just exquisite. When I went to my first con for real I was so disappointed, nobody really talked to each other or interacted. It turned from a fan event into a corporate cash grab, which is probably why lots of these rules were imposed in the first place. Corporate sponsors wouldn't pay out to the con if they thought there was "problematic" stuff happening.
@@Sammysapphira I wouldn't say this is entirely true about corporate interests. Back then they brought their own booth babes!

@@KaNoMikoProductionsshort and painful of it is that BRIDGE is and idea to take DEI and make it corporate culture. So you won’t have to have diversity officers since everyone will be a prisoners dilemma where they all play along so as to not out themselves, if they don’t believe it. So in short, all office workers will take up the job of the diversity officer to keep the company woke and it’s all being funded by the same people.
You're all really stupid if you think that money is going to have any effect on what's going on. What everyone seems to forget is that this is a cult of power. It will not end it will not cease it will not let up until it controls everything. It's an entire ideology based around taking control for a new country and being the power people who get to make the decisions for that new country, and until that happens there's going to be plenty of people who are willing to push this ideology in order to take power from others. This problem will never go away there will always be leftovers and always be people and probably the reality is it's going to be 1984 faster than any of this is going to be over I don't know why you people think that that this kind of ideology is going away but it's never going to go away it's going to kill us all.

10:05 that wasn't even the scummiest thing, 13:38 they waited until after the refund period to get this out.

i've actually had people pull the: make me uncomfortable thing on me as well in real life, had my landlord call me in and do a talk. because im the right leaning and a lot of other people here are left leaning so every now and then i push back a little against their bubble in the public area. and even though the landlord was sympathetic to me and my position he also told me i had to keep it down for the most part, wich in turn ironically makes me legitemately uncomfortable in almost every time i am in the public living space. because i have to constantly self censor while listening to things i sometimes vehemently disagree with not allowed to counterargue at all.
fundamentally i believe the arguement of makes me uncomfortable is a method of laying on people's sympathies while having no real thing to point at what they did wrong. and its a method to use your position of authority or majority to discriminate and exclude people
What you're saying is accurate.
While I am often biased, I can often see counterargement both strong and weak (usually weak) and despite this, I can't see a counterargument to this. People deserve to feel safe is as strong of a counterargument as it get and it does not adress the issue of it being an oppression by the majority/whoever the authority choose to protect.
So yeah, I can definitely say that you're correct.
You know what is funny? I basically had this exact same thing happen in my D&D group, where some of the players decided to talk to me about how they were uncomfortable with how I'd push back when they devolved into political discussions.
However, luckily for me my retort seemed to be far more effective than your's. I got to tell them that them constantly bringing up their politics made me uncomfortable and that's why I would respond to it. I also pointed out that my pushback was always that, a response. Got them to realize the thing they were complaining about was actually something they were inflicting constantly instead.
Of course, it only worked because we're friends and not neighbors.
This is why I developed a policy of "go fuck yourself" as the norm and don't socialize with folks especially if they can report to my landlord or job, yes everyone hates me and yes i'm the asshole but damn does it beat needing to talk to the landlord because I tried to "get along" with other people and they were "uncomfortable cause our views arn't the same 😢", those people are a blight never get inbetween someone and their living space or their honest paycheck used to be the norm, people who do that shit are pure evil in my book and deserve the worst things this world can offer them, having a place to live and being able to eat can be struggle for some folks you don't fuck with that shit.

I use to love going to Anime Detour in the the Twin Cities, MN, but then, they started with all of the LGBTQ…"AARP…XYZ" panels & made a MASSIVE "detour FROM anime." I miss all of the people there, but I no longer felt welcome there because it was no longer about anime, manga, and video games, but "how do we get more representation in these," and "here's what you should watch/read/play because they're allies," and it just all became political.
We had this one comedian who's 100% ethnically Japanese who was born & raised in Texas. Dev, you're a real one. You don't let the past issues with Kirsche stop you from being an objective person who stabds up for her. Respect for the principles
Dev making up an AIDs conenction to the word "Infected" is not a charitable interpretation, and you know it.
The term infection already implies a dislike for a group, its the "Pronoun People" line that needs interpretation. It can range from those online who get obsessive over it, to just be a blanket statement for anyone whos Trans.
The charitable interpretation would be guessing they thought she was talking about the latter rather then the former.
"She's right of Mao, she has to go" said the Vtuber gatekeepers
"it's all troons?"
"always has been."
When Anime Expo banned ManFay some 15 years ago, it was already a telling sign of the meek sanitization that would come.
Discord's pronouns feature pisses me tf off not because of the feature itself, but because they went through all the effort of making it entirely compatible with mobile Discord while mobile Discord is still borderline unusable due to various bugs and constant crashing. Their priorities are up their own @55es.
Mine seems to work fine. Did I just get lucky?
9:50 pot calling kettle black moment. No seriously, both you and your viewer can be very stubborn lmfao.
#pikamee
That’s not what he was saying, in fact you not hearing what he was saying but instead inserting what you think he was saying because that fit your idea of who he is, is way to ironic to even start explaining.
@@derpionderpson1424 No, stop dick riding dev. He literally did the same on multiple instances with the pikamee's case being one of these instances. Is not "inserting what you think he was saying because that fit your idea of who he is" when you know how he acted and acts when comes to clapback from shit takes of his.
@@derpionderpson1424 yup, the irony is lost on you as well. Dev is stubborn, and no it's not just about pikamee, he actually is stubborn if you look at his reaction in many of the controversies to the point that I sometime can't tell the difference if he is trolling like the trucker video case or just having a bad take (like the whole budlight thing).
Of course, his viewer too had this problem which Dev correctly point out. It's just funny to me how it also applies to him in a different way (in his case, instead of projecting personality it's about how he projects the event in his mind).
Neat. Never been this early to a video. Dev, come say hi! I'ma pester on Discord.
hi!
Being a centrist means nothing if you just move along with the Overton window.
Thank you!
Centrist is the most meaningless term in politics.
Agreed
@@BFG_10G Yes that is true.
Both sides pull to see who will succeed.
The thing about taking the stance of "no politics", and it's practical application of banning all political vtubers, is that often leftist political activism in the vtuber scene takes the form of subtle (and not so subtle) shows of support of "The Current Thing". So where do you draw the line? Do we blacklist all vtubers who've virtue signaled at least once over the last year? Or just the ones who do it heavily and often?
Is saying "trans women are women", "BLM (positive)" or "I love LGBT people! LGBT people are awesome!", are those leftist political statements? For some people they are.
Is saying "A man and a woman belong together in sacred union", "I wish to have kids to carry onto the next generation" and "I don't want rainbow propaganda where my kids learn their ABCs", are those rightoid political statements? For some, they are.
Again. Where do you draw the line?
They chose to draw the line at banning anyone to the right of them, as they always do
@@humanbeans4498Don't act like the right wouldn't do the same if given the opportunity.
You draw the line at good faith. If impossible to determine, at status quo. Sound good?
@@lupisvolk2420How do you think we even got to this point? Because even right-leaning people _didn’t_ gatekeep areas. That’s why basically every organization or group had been co-opted. Even churches. It might happen now as a _response_ to (over)correct the damage that’s been done, but it wasn’t like that prior.
@@mrshmuga9 I mean the fact you need an exterior force to keep your ideals alive in communities should be a sign of reflection but then again online conservatives are more stubborn than a grumpy Donkey.

the kirsche and dev drama is new to me, i tried searching it up, but nothing definitive came up. how old is this? what happened? what is the general consensus (of normal people, not twitter people)? mostly, what does dev mean when he said "... out of paranoia"?
thanks in advance.
She was paranoid about him cause some of his mods talked trash about her on discord
@@thedarkmasterthedarkmaster really, that's it? i didn't actually see that part in the vids i watched (btw, yeah, the ones i could find are all more or less skewed towards kirsche, but the evidence was weak)

You and Kirsche on SideScrollers. Do it!
i'd watch that
He already went on ArchCast with her if memory serves
Kitsche hates Devs guts tho 😂
Why? Because he’s gay? Or a liberal? He’s a pretty well read and well spoken guy. I disagree with him on almost everything, but that’s like the most interesting kind of person to actually sit down and talk to.
@@danielsurvivor1372 can you give me the TL;DR on their beef? i really dont remember anything of that
This guy she talked to 100% sounds like HE is the one having a problem with her, and he is using random "volunteer" as scapegoats.
Dev talking about being stonewalled implying he doesn’t do the same thing all the time lol. Actually he and Kirche are perfect for one another.
Where is the trucker video Dev?
Kirsche wants a Himbo who knows how to work with money.
Unsure about how well Dev does it, he needs to become a short fit/muscularly inclined Otaku. Also reads a lot of information. If I ever meet a himbo who reads political content among other types of nonfiction books it would be interesting.
@@thecompareablezombie I didn’t mean perfect for one another in a dating sense but yeah that’s obviously what that means to everyone else lol. I just meant they deserve to beef with one another since they both have the same mentality and him calling her out for that mentality that literally everyone knows he has is just peak level hypocrisy.
Damn... It's pretty sad to see how you and Kirsche still haven't resolved your differences, i like both of you a lot and you actually agree on many things. But then again i understand Kirsche in her paranoia, I mean, remember what happened with Pippa and that Coomalot guy? Yeah.
This video was really nice Dev, it shows that you stick to your principles regardless of how you feel about someone and are willing to show what is objectively true in these cases.
I hope one day you and Kirsche can resolve your differences and maybe even collab one day.
Back in the early 2000's one of the UK cons was just a group of people going to a camp sight with laptops/VHS tapes swapping fan subs, for fun there where 2 sections called 'Team Lum' and 'Team Ranma'. It was super simple, only advertised on a few odd places where anime was shared.
I like both of your content. I hope Kirche and you get along in the future.
Dev why do you seem to have personal drama with literally every content creator out there?

He has a Destiny type attitude I guess
Legitimately sad to learn that the lead dev of one of my favourite ongoing indie projects is associated with SweetBaby Inc. and hates SFO. Truly, the worst crossover episode.

Soft normies(normal people) who needed to be bullied and the ones who were bullied too much.
There are two kinds of bullies mainly, a third is more adult situations which is another story.
The first is the more physical one, the other is the Narcissist cry bully.
They banned Kirsche from a panel, but they kept Rev’s Q&A? Now *that’s* odd. People on that side of the political aisle usually paint those two with the same brush.
is Rev more popular?
it could just be a commercial thing
Because they didn't actually ban her for her politics, but rather her personality. Because in their sphere it's a lot easier to say, "we're banning her because she's 'problematic'" than it is to say "we're banning her because she's a mean girl and we don't like that", because it makes you look like a petty highschooler.
What exactly is the beef between Dev and Kirsche about? I've seen bits of it on his twitter, but not enough to figure out.

Agh you beat me
Honestly as someone who is too old for v-tubers and certainly doesn't give a shit about their conferences, this is hard to care about.
But yes, typical bias on display, where even being a relatively normal, run of the mill liberal opinions now leave you as persona non-grata to anything internet affiliated since the "volunteers" for Offkai are likely the terminally online land beasts who inhabit reddit.
Bottom line Kirsche is right to blast them for their clear bias, but they're also allowed to invite or disinvite anyone they want. Conferences aren't a "human right"
Thanks for coverin this topic, Dev!
Where can I find Kirsche's take on the stuff that dev described in the beginning of the video?

Would be good to know
Dev, the fact your willing to bury the hatchet between you and Kirche is very mature of you. I'm Very proud of you and to be your fan
I wouldn't really describe what Dev said here as a "burying the hatchet" but more of a "being truthful and fair about her treatment in this case is more important than her stupid opinions on me".
@@Marshall_Francies Fair enough I should have said "Taking the high road" instead. My mistake. Still proud of dev.
Considering I like both of you guys, I'm glad you're willing to to back up someone you have disagreements with. I hope you two can bury the hatchet some day.
How they handled the Hogwarts Legacy V-tuber was the correct way to go about it. Don’t kick up a fuss, let the panel happen, then very quietly don’t invite them back. Even if you agree with the complainers, even if it feels like fixing a mistake, if you demonstrate that you can be bullied into changing things you invite bullying from all corners.
