Pagan here literally means any religion outside of Judaic roots which then turned into any religion that was non-Christian by the Middle Ages as its dogmas were now somewhat codified. Debase is even the wrong word to use when "paganism" was the norm and them seeing Christianity to be the moral superior version of it, decided to convert to like Constantine did. Dev, Velma was not meant to have always been a lesbian, let alone butch; she was based off a character from 'The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis', whose actress was a lesbian. In fact; all of Mystery Inc. -except for Scooby, were based off the main characters from that show.
Velma being gay was a running joke that developed due to her not being as conventionally attractive as Daphne and not seeming to attract any guys.
I would not buy into ANY claim that Velma was 'always gay', because its always retroactive. Even the claim that the 2012 version was always gay didn't surface until just a couple years ago, around the same time the HBO Max show was starting to amass controversy.
Don't buy into it. It's a claim that is about as credible as Shaggy being a canonical stoner, and Fred and Daphne splitting off JUST to make out while everyone else is searching for clues

The talk of Velma being a lesbian was based on the stereotype regarding women who wore their hair short. The character was never a lesbian or intended to be coded in such a way. She was always just bookish. Any modern iterations making her gay are basically indicative of the tonal shift where stereotypes are now given absolute weight as truth instead of being discarded as baseless preconceptions like they were in the '90s. I remember that the entirety of the '90s was based around dismantling stereotypes, and then the '10s stomped in and declared that stereotypes were absolute, indicative, and symptomatic. It drives me nuts.

You hit the nail on the head! I’m a lesbian. I called myself “queer” for a short bit in high school because I wasn’t sure if I was bisexual or a lesbian quite yet. It was useful then because I knew I was attracted to the same sex but wasn’t quite sure what category I fell in. Now, I despise the term because it means NOTHING, and the most obnoxious people use it. It’s mostly just stereotypes that even the most conservative traditionalist say are too strict (Ms. Frizzle being “queer” because she’s quirky and colorful?) and, as you said, entitled straight people who want to scream about how “queeer” they are because they dress funny or call each other by funny pronouns while they have very heterosexual sex. At this point, they’d consider my very straight parents a “queer” couple because my very masculine dad does dishes and my feminine mother is the one who likes watching sports. And yeah, I’ve seen genuinely gay people called “less queer” and even “straight” for having the “wrong” politics. The fuck? I just wanna have a regular life with a lady, damn. I don’t relate to the “community” at all anymore and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

There's this South Park episode in which the parents of the kids are upset with them because they think they are being homophobic against Mr. Garrison because the kids complain _he's too gay_ what's going on is that a new law has been established that if an institution fires someone from just being homosexual the receiver can sue them and make big bucks so Garrison is trying to get fired to take advantage of said law so he's explicitly exposing his sexuality to the kids by dressing in reveling clothes, constancy taking about doing it to other guys and even performing on class with Mr. Slave. And when the parents saw why the kids described him as _too gay_ they took their side.
Point is no rational person cares of gives a damn if you're _Team queer_ or whatever but if your whole shtick is being obnoxious, and a walking sexual innuendo specially around kids don't be mad when folk distance from you.
Also one of the original _fights_ of the LGTB movement was to fight the stereotype that they were just sexual deviants (what the South Park kids described as "too gay") but at some-point they just backpedaled so hard they embraced it.
Seriously, At what point that whole movement went from giving non-hetero folks respect and equal rights, to them boarder-lining into exhibitionism and them calling you names for not being _into it?_

Spend a week in these spaces and youll be drowned in prog media, prog ideas, prog messaging and woke content. Its hard for a person even casually existing in these spaces apolitically, to _not_ become slowly indoctrinated over time without realizing it.

It's actually a lot like trannyism in that regard: there is no objective criteria for either and you have to take a person at their word.

6:06 I disagree. I haven’t seen a shred of proof indicating that Velma was originally intended to be a lesbian. Velma had her share of heterosexual love interests and unrequited swooning over male characters since the 70s, if not the 60s. “Velma is a lesbian” was a crass if somewhat popular joke that eventually made it into recent adaptations of the show for what I suspect to be “representation” reasons.

They made her full lesbian in Velma.

Velma was straight, she low-key wanted Fred but saw herself as inadequate despite her intelligence and her looks which she downplayed because of insecurities. In analyzing her character you find she struggles with the same neurosis that all nerds struggle with - social anxiety, localized social anxiety in her case as it was attractive men she was shy and nervous around. This explains why she was always so at ease around Shaggy; he registered as non-threatening. Daphne had the opposite problem, she felt inferior because she was rich and felt like her parents had coddled her, which the movies took a step further, but the original Daphne just wanted to be a normal girl too. She found acceptance with the gang and that's where her loyalty was.
Anyway, the LGB movement would do well to rid itself of the TQ+. It was never about them, "alternative lifestyles" is not a phrase that ever applies to LGB en masse. Like you said they're normal people that wanted integration and keep their sex lives private. It wasn't until the TQ+ that we had shit like pride parades and all the garish public displays that alarm the straights and make them question if we deserve equality after all.
