In my experience, the Zumo having a ton of VIA points will usually result in it keeping to the route you wanted even in the case of a detour/recalculation. If you only have the Start and End point and somehow it recalculates, it will make a bee line to the end and totally ignore your hard work. I usually plot a bunch of intermediate via points, so it may skip one or two but pick back up somewhere along the line. This is how I crafted my routes in BaseCamp. I would create a route with a lot of waypoints and then convert the vast majority into shaping points, but leave real stops in there for places I really wanted to stop at. YMMV. Thanks for the video. I too love Scenic but have an XT for long trips so as not to have all eggs in one basket.

Can I ask. . .Whats a VIA/ VIAS points? I've search Google but didnt find my answer. But I'm slooow😂.

@@Swizzenator Hey no worries! When you create a route in Basecamp each spot you put in the route is a Waypoint. Think of them as ‘must go thru’. If you right click on it and choose ‘don’t announce on arrival’ it becomes a shaping point or a Via Point. If you are creating the route in Scenic, you have the choice of Via or Stop. You can have a LOT of shaping/via points in a route but only about 25 waypoints/stops. My best practice is to put a large number of shaping/via points in a route so that if the Garmin decides to recalculate or if I hit a section of closed road, it won’t trash the rest of the route. It’s a lot to take in and I made a ton of mistakes early on.

Hi mate, I have had exactly the same problem! I plan my routes with Kurviger and only with long tracks, import that into Garmin Explorer , let it appear on the Zumo and convert it to navi route. If I would go off route (because of road blocks) and allow to re-calculate it would do the thing your saying, but not always only to the very end point. Your writing has now possible helped in trying to put in shape (VIA) points. I just wanted to thank you for this hint. And BTW, this is possible Garmin trying to pull legacy stuff on a new device and therefore creating this ridiculous behaviour. Cheers

An excellent, if long, video on inserting waypoints into a route (in order that any "recalculation" of route such as when encountering a detour does not cause Zumo to create a bee-line route to Endpoint) is by Joseph Byrne called "Garmin BaseCamp. How to Create a Route from a Track for Mac"

Hi ... GSD Thank you for the steer on getting gpx files across to the Garmin XT I'm exporting in the following steps
    1) Export GPX files from Mappite to my Android Phone
    2) Capture the files using the Garmin Explore App.
    3) Send the files to the Garmin Drive App.
    4) Sync Garmin Drive to the XT and follow you instructions regarding Tracks and Trips 👍all good stuff
    Kind Regards CC

thanks for the excellent explanation - I see different behavior when exporting from Calimoto which I want to share- using the Calimoto export function requires saving the gpx file on the iPad/iphone, then in the next step share with Garmin Drive - on the Zumo XT it appears not in the track section, it appears in the routes... opening the Calimoto track in BaseCamp and export explicit as a track file and transfer via Garmin Drive then it appears on the Zumo XT in the track section... will investigate further and let you know my findings

    • @michaeldierks1292
      @michaeldierks1292 Рік тому

Found the reason - gpx file out of Calimoto contains
      waypoints ( )
      routingpoints ( ) and finally
      trackpoints / )
...so Zumo puts the file in routing/trip section and routing doesn't work properly as the map bases are different
Deleting the waypoints/routingpoints in the gpx file (either manually with an editor or opening in Basecamp and export the track only) forces the Zumo to put it in the track section and you can continue with the steps as Paul recommends

Good Morning Paul, Is there a way to place all your planned routes onto a memory card and then put that into the Zumo so it then reads them. I've tried reformatting, using Basecamp, dragging and dropping straight to card through a card reader but nothing appears to work? Thanks Jay

Nav 6 won't use the Garmin Drive app. Thats only on the newer ones like the XT as I understand it. It uses the on device WiFi. The Nav needs USB or an SD card to transfer routes.

I’m sending my GPX1.1 route, track,POI from MyRoute-app via Garmin drive to the XT and it automatically converts the track into the trip for me, so unless I’m doing something wrong which is normally the case 🤣🤣🤣 Then I’m not understanding everyone converting their tracks, the unit does it for you!!!
