I’ve down loaded Calimoto yesterday and I’m very impressed. Going to mainland next week with the wife for the first time and been trying to plot a Simon Weir Route all week on other planners, with no success, but last night with Calimoto plotted the Monmouth Loop and 8 straight rides in say 3 and a half hours. So well pleased. Only thing if your trying to plot a route like Simon Weirs Monmouth Loop, it’s had to find the roads because not enough detail, but saying that, I managed and looking forward to be riding the Loop it’s looks fantastic. Saw you at the ABR wanted to say hello but, you were always busy. Next time May be.👍

Once I got to France, the routes worked perfectly ! Also, we had a few 'off bike days' but decided to use Calimoto to find us a route for the day ..... worked brilliantly ! I have a BMW navigator 5 ..... messed about trying to get the routes onto Basecamp, then on to the Nav 5 and couldn't get the routes supplied ......... imported the same routes into Calimoto ( as per Bruce's video) .... BOOM! Highly recommended app
I have noticed when planning a trip that takes you from the UK to Europe you will get an error message saying something like "You Cant plan a Route that changes from Left Hand To Right hand Driving roads." So for the Uk leg to the ferry etc I just plan a seperate trip and as you say start the main trip as soon as you touch down in the EU.
Super simple. Nice one Bruce. I absolutely love the app (I downloaded it thanks to you). I’ve found so many fantastic roads in Kent I never knew existed.

Great tutorial. Is there a way to have a rout shared to the wider Calimoto user base. i.e. How could I ensure that you could see a route that ive made?
Cheers Graeme - any route you post will automatically be available to anyone who searches within the area the route is in. For example, if your route is in the Lake District, then if someone opens their Calimoto and they are in the Lake District, then your route should show up on their ‘home page’, or if they search within the Lake District area👍

Already done that Dave, was covered in the first vid in the series a few weeks ago - Calimoto Tutorial - 1. Getting Started & How to Plan a Route ua-cam.com/video/nItr3iP_wl0/v-deo.html
Save the gpx file to a as card then insert the card into the Sat nav. The Nav 6 May recognise the new file and ask if you want to import it - if it doesn’t then you import the file via the menu on the Nav 6. There’s loads of vids on UA-cam on how to do it 👍
If you’ve got phone signal when travelling in Europe or abroad, then use online maps. If you think it’s going to be an issue, then make sure you download the country map before you go, and if you start to have issues, just swap over to offline mode👍

Hiya Bruce, bit late to the party here! Can you please tell me of i can share a map to other user's on the app if they arent premium users but i am? Cheers
Need some help with the transfer.. 1. I designed the route in Calimoto. 2. I prefer a traditional GPS so I transferred GPX to Garmin basecamp which is so confusing and messes up the route/waypoints. Only way is to transfer and correct or manually add calimoto route in basecamp. Is there a better way to transfer Calimoto GPX files to Garmin GPS?
No - the only way to ensure the route you make in Calimoto is the route you follow in your gps device, is to manually go through the route on your gps device and ensure the waypoints are accurate. The gpx file format is read differently across each manufacturer and device - each interpolates the information differently. However if you share your Calimoto route to another Calimoto user, then the route will be 100% accurate 👍
Yep, export the gpx via desktop calimoto, and save the file onto an as card. Put the address card in your Garmin and import the file via the Garmin settings menu
Is there a way to transfer the routes to a traditional satnav? I use a Garmin Zumo but calimoto has been intriguing me recently . I just don’t like the idea of my phone on a mount and would rather use a satnav but if I could transfer the routes from the calimoto app that would be amazing.
Course, just do the route in Calimoto, export it and save onto an as card, whack the sd-card into the zumo and import the gpx file. Gpx file format is notoriously ‘unstable’ though in the sense that it’s used differently by a wide range of devices. The route you create in Calimoto may be wildly different than the one you end up with in your Zumo, so make sure you check through the route once imported and alter accordingly
Hello Bruce. I started to use Calimoto recently, which is indeed a great planning app, yet one thing that is fairly annoying is that when I import one of my existing routes I created with another app, Calimoto says 'some of your imported rides may have been re-calculated for an optimal user experience'. And it does indeed. Now I have been looking for the 'green line' you describe in your video, showing the original route, yet I do not see that green line on the desktop version (I do not use the mobile app). Has anything changed since posting this video?
Hi Dirk, Yes a LOT has changed since I recorded these vids, I really need to do some updated ones it seems. I’m not sure if you still get that green line now, especially in the desktop version. For importing routes, I find it best to ensure there are sufficient ‘via points’ at every junction/turning along the route, then use the ‘Fastest’ routing option in Calimoto. You’re then forcing Calimoto to simply follow the via points and not interpolate its own route between them - I hope that makes sense 👍
Hi, I'm guessing the Import GPX facility is only available on the Paid version of Calimoto on laptop/pc? I'm signed into Calimoto and cannot see that option.
Yes, but you’ll need to go through the route on the Nav VI and check it’s the same. Devices interpret waypoints differently. Make sure the preferences are set to Fastest Route too.
Hi Bruce, can you help me..I had calimoto on my old phone, Samsung s7 and when I shared routes I had multiple options, the main one being 'garmin drive' which I use to sent to my Garmin satnav. @@teapotone thanks ..... when i try to start the route ( french routes) i get 'calculation error' message ..... if that because im not at the start of the route perhaps ? cheers Bruce
No it’s because Calimoto can not plot routes across countries where you ride on the other side of the road - so for example UK to France etc. You need to plot a route to wherever you’re going in the UK to leave , so Dover/Portsmouth etc, then onwards from Calais/Bilbao/Santander etc.
@@teapotone thanks ...... lets say i have a route from paris to paris loop that doesn't start in the uk ...... once i get to france do you think the app will work ? I appreciate your help Bruce ... good to have an SME on the subject

Hi Bebek, You can download the maps for the countries you want, then switch to offline mode when you travel. That way Calimoto will work off the downloaded maps rather than online 👍
That's odd, left a message (hopefully not abusive or swearing) but it's not here now. I've had notifications of messages on my channel then nothing there when I click it?? My question was do you prefer planning routes with the app or the more traditional way in Basecamp?
100% with Calimoto, I don’t use anything else now to plot routes, it’s so easy to do. Basecamp was a massive pain in the bum and I could never guarantee that what I plotted on the computer would be the route determined by my Garmin Zumo when I imported it. With Calimoto, I know that whatever I plot on the desktop version will 100% transfer over to the app on my phone exactly as I want. Plus it’s so easy to make amendments on either desktop or app and it’ll automatically sync to the other.
Great Vid Bruce, im a fan of Calimoto already. Like you i own the best motorcycle in the world with a Nav6, Ive used Cali to generate a route but prefer to use the nav6 whilst on the bike, (camera damage issue). I have imported the routes into basecamp but it comes up with loads and loads of route points which can be a pain and cause issues. Considering buying an old iphone and sticking it in the cradle and just using Cali. Oh yeah, have you seen the new phone adaptor cradle BM are doing to allow use of the whizz wheel on a phone?
@@teapotone thank you for the awnser 👍🏻 I still can't seem to find out how to search for a specific user... I do have the payed version of calimoto BTW... The problem I used to have with the import is, that i's not dealing correct with waypoints and routes. So in a GPX file you can provide tracks, routes and waypoints. Even all three at the same time. When it comes to tracks, the import works perfectly fine. Calimoto tries to recreate the track by setting own waypoints. And where it does not match, you can see it with the green and red line as shown in your video. And you can fix it manually if you like. But when you import a GPX file with only waypoints or a route in it, Calimoto screws it up completely. At best only half of the waypoints are taken. On the export side it's a lot better, but still has an issue from my point of view. The good thing is, the exported Calimoto GPX file contains all three variants of your tour. A track that exactly matches the planned route in Calimoto. The Waypoints that you used to create the route. Both items so far are exactly as expected. But the route is not. I would expect that my waypoints form the Calimoto route are used and listed in the right order. But instead of this, Calimoto provides a route that has a lot more waypoints in it and they a not necessarily include the ones you planned before.
All sounds very complicated bud - I’m not sure what you’re using to create your gpx file that you’re importing into Calimoto - but if you’re going to use Calimoto on the bike, I’d just plot the route natively on the desktop version and that’ll eliminate any issues whatsoever.
@@teapotone first of all, don't get me wrong. I'm also a big fan of Calimoto, but your video was about import and export of GPX files. And there is - from my point of view - something broken in Calimoto. I know that I can get around it by doing the planning directly in Calimoto and sharing it within the app/website. But again this was about importing and exporting GPX files. And if you get a GPX file that only has waypoints or a route in it and not a track, Calimoto will screw it up on the import. Any other app that I know and used to use will import them correct.
Point taken bud - any gpx files I’ve imported personally into calimoto have worked fine, only ever having the issues with slight deviations in the route as highlighted in the vid.
A good planer BUT it won't send the GPX file as planned to a sat nav it tells you you have too many waypoints even if you haven't added any, If you don't want to use your phone to navigate you have a problem
I export from the web console a route I have created, a mate of mine imports the gpx into the web console and you would think the route would be identical. It's not. It sends him a different way. Major flaw in my opinion. Great when you are riding alone, but if a group want to follow the same route, not so good. I also struggle with the volume as others have mentioned in the comments. Personally I’ve never had any issues with either the UltimateAddOns Helix strap Mount, or the cheap Amazon phone cradle I use that clips into the BMW satnav cradle
That’s fine for plotting the most direct route and avoiding traffic, but it won’t plot specific best biking roads as automatically as Calimoto will, and it’s limited to how many waypoints you can incorporate into your route

Personally I’ve never had any issues with either the UltimateAddOns Helix strap Mount, or the cheap Amazon phone cradle I use that clips into the BMW satnav cradle
Love how small the world is, just found out I work with your ex colleague 😂😂
Who’s that?

Google Maps, Google Maps & Google Maps!
That’s fine for plotting the most direct route and avoiding traffic, but it won’t plot specific best biking roads as automatically as Calimoto will, and it’s limited to how many waypoints you can incorporate into your route
Beware Calimoto. If you want to plan a long trip, it can't do it. Unfortunately, you won't find out until you pay.
