Do you have an AccuQuilt Cutter? Which one do you prefer?

I bought mine at JoAnns when the AQ Go! first came on the market in 2009(?) and it was discounted at 30 or 40% off plus the dies were also. Of course there wasn't too many dies available then. No GoMe! was available then. I constantly use it and adapt quilt patterns to use the dies. The strip cutters are the best. 2 1/2", 3", 1 1/2 ", 4 1/2", to name a few. When you need a lot of 2 1/2" blocks, cut the strips, then lay them crosswise on the die, and presto, 2 1/2" blocks. Same for the other sizes. I like the HST, in all sizes, no drawing the line, sewing on each side, then cutting, just sew the 2 halves together and your done. The BOB dies for complex cutting designs, such as a feathered star, are a breeze. All the shapes on one die. Double ring wedding quilt, the arcs are a breeze and the center shape. They have a video on how to make bias strips in one pass of the die. I hope you can tell I am an enthusiast but have no affiliation or connection with the company whatsoever. I wish the "expert" YT big time channels all have one as they have the obligatory presentation to make, but then I never see them use it again.
I have considered getting the electric GoBig! but then, what if the power goes off? We had a spell 3 yrs ago when no power for 3 days. Well I can plan and cut pieces for quilt projects or just process all the scraps into strips, squares, etc,, when forced to stay home.. One can even hand stitch a quilt. So, hand crank for me, no straining the electric grid. LOL

@marinaabad4995 you should be doing a review not me - you sound like an expert! I remember having occasional power outages when I lived in Toronto but it is extremely rare here in the UK. I’ve lived here over 20 years and I can only remember one that lasted for 2 hours. So I think I’ll be ok with the electric one 😂

My husband bought the Go Big for a Christmas present about 8 years ago. I have problem shoulders, and at the time I could not turn a handle, or cut with a rotary cutter. The Go Big was a life saver. I use it all the time, and it is still going strong. The strip dies are very long, so they do not drop onto table. My first big quilt I made had 1,100 half square triangles. I used the Go Big to cut them out. Otherwise, I think I would still be cutting the pieces out, 6 years later. For me, the Go Big has been worth it. It is an amazing machine,

I LOVE my AccuQuilt Go Big!! As I have often said I wouldn't be quilting without my Go Big. I have RA in my hands and can't hold a rotary cutter. Yes it's expensive but so are good sewing machines. And you can use the dies for years without wearing them out and the mats last a long time too.
AccuQuilt says that there is no problem with the die falling out the other end of the Cutter. It's designed to work that way.
Many users make a shelf to catch the Die at the other end. I made mine from a box stuffed with Junk Mail and taped shut.
I think the Go Big is the best thing since the rotary cutter.
PS I do have a Go Me but I've never used it. It was a freebie but I don't need it

    • @ScrapFabricLove
      @ScrapFabricLove  5 місяців тому +3

😂 me too with the GO Me - it came free with something once - can’t remember what 🤷‍♀️. I have used it but only a few times. Glad you are still loving your GO Big!

Your game box is perfect! I never put mine away. It's out and ready to use at any time. There are Facebook resale groups in the US but I've never used them. AQ often has sales on the cutters in the US

All the Accuquilt videos (even the really old ones) are excellent especially for learning. I’ve been using them for some time but I always learn something new or are reminded of something I’ve forgotten!!! I’d travel with my Go!Me! Or even the Go! But the Go!Big! Would be way too much to take anywhere! At least the first two machines don’t require electricity so work well if traveling and staying in a hotel!

I have the Go hand crank full size and a little one. I have a gazillion dies and haven't used them all. I just got off a hunter star binge. The strip cutters are worth their weight in gold. I have truly 50 or so dies. Have not even used my applique dies yet.

I also have the AQ Go Big, bought second hand a couple of years ago. I'd be lost without it! Last year I bought a job lot of dies for a bargain price. I now have more dies than i will ever use. Much as I love using the machine, I wince at the cost of the cutting mats.

I bought me an AccuQuilt Go Big Cutter yesterday, at a quilt show but I will look around to buy extra dies on FB marketplace etc but I’m so excited I’ve been looking at one for awhile, after right shoulder surgery late 2023 and being out of commission cutting wise for 5 months I decided that was awful I could sew quite quickly but cutting was a painful trial, and I wasn’t happy with non quilters cutting for me, my people will understand this 4.5” need to be 4.5” not 4.45” or 4.55”🤷‍♀️call me picky but no others cutting(family) lovely offer but no go away 🤦🏼‍♀️. In a few months I have to commit to left shoulder surgery so not having that problem again so now I have my cutter 👏👏

@@suzannakoizumi8605The cutters come with a die for 3 shapes so you would t have to purchase anything, but just the general sizes if quilt pieces we mostly use can be purchased without Accuquilt or even on EBay! And the company always always have great sales. Plus there are some quilt stores that carry everything.

One downfall of the electric happened to my friend. Her electric go had a part go in it. We live in Canada. There is no company/ distributor that is licensed to repair them in Canada. She had to pay to have it shipped to the US to get a small part that was inexpensive and a large price to ship it. She found a bit of a workaround due to being close to the border/ family in the US. I am mixed about buying one. I could use one due to shoulder problems i am currently having. But it is a luxury item. Still sitting on the fence. If a deal came i would grab it. I have used my friends. It is sad that the company does not have service in the countries they are selling them.

In March I cut so many 1-1/2” strips for my quilt guild for charity quilts - it would have been horrible cutting these by hand. The die can cut up to 6 layers of cotton and thus due I used could cut 5 strips at a time. - 5x6=30 strips at just one pass through the cutter. I cut hundreds in just a few hours - and I also used many scraps that the guild had from other projects! The 2-1/2” strip cutter is the best - with the regular die thst cuts 3 strips at a time, enough strips can be cut for a queen size quilt with just one pass through the machine! 😁😁😁

This is the first I heard of the Die Catcher and I'm very interested in that. ( It's a bit pricey😱 but what isn't these days? 🤣) I love the accuracy I get , especially when cutting long strips. Sure makes for quick binding strips and sashings!

I brought a cube set that was on sale but haven’t used it yet but I had to have it 😂😂. If you ever have time I’d love to see you do a video on using a cube set or a quilt made using the cube set 😉 ❤️

Thanks for the suggestion! I do have a cube set but I’ve only ever used it in pieces - as in I used one of the dies in it to do something not using them all. I know I used one or two from a cube die in my stash buster quilt along with- the one with the plus signs.

Man there are some nasty ladies among our quilting world. The lady who has ALL 3 machines needs to watch some other UA-cam channel if she is not happy with your channel. By the way Kristen I would like some info on your die that had the damage to it. I have the 21/2 inch die and it is starting to bubble in 1 corner. Did yours start like this. Thanks for all your great information. Desley🇦🇺

Thanks for watching!

I’ve not tried that but I imagine if you were paying attention and made sure they went through at the same time it might work. Worth an experiment at least ! I have used bigger mats on smaller dies , just not two at a time. Don’t know that it would be official accuquilt advice of course!
