    I am Canadian-Hungarian, but I grew up in a total Hungarian household. Langos is one of my personal favourite. It really is more pan fried than deep fried. I find the best way to eat it is rubbed with garlic and dusted lightly with salt. Yum! It’s a staple in my house. And of course chicken paprikas with nokedli, stuffed peppers and cabbage rolls. And then the desserts! Szarbo is the best. But let us not forget polacinta. Hope you enjoyed. Watching your video made me incredibly hungry and nostalgic.

    On the fisherman's bastion. In medieval times the citiy's guilds also provided garrison and every guild had a designated section of the wall they were responsible for. And the fisherman's guild was responsible to cover that area back then. That's why it's named fisherman's bastion.

    Going to gelert baths and feasting on beer and goulash afterwards is probably one of the top 15 best experiences I've had in life. Budapest is amazing. Love the people, the langos and history experienced while I was there. I must mention that Százéves Étterem (oldest restaurant in Budapest) and varosliget in hero square were responsible for cooking up some of the most memorable feast I enjoyed during my time there. That city is so much fun tho. Great food everywhere, the list is truly endless.

    Since my first visit to Budapest 1981 when I was 6 years old, I really love Hungarian food!
    I remember my first meeting with my grandmother. She brought chocolate boxes as gifts for me and my 16 years old Hungarian cousin. We were eating breakfast when she came and I was "rude" (not used to eat chocolate as breakfast and she thought I was like my cousin who ate chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner) and said I wanted to eat more salami, gyulai kolbasz, white fresh paprika with the tasty Hungarian farmer's bread and save the chocolate for the evening!
    Imagine the faces of the rest :)

    • @vonPeter_
      @vonPeter_ 4 роки тому +1

      @@AllAmericanGuy01 I always drinking milk while eating cereal. Btw goulash (gulyás) is a spicy, hot, heavy, meaty, potato soup (or stew or something in between them). We usually drink beer while cooking the soup over campfire (not during the lunch), the good gulyás takes 3-5 hours to get ready so we have a lot of time to hang around with friends and family. During the lunch you don't need anything else to drink but a glass of red wine.

    Another great, great vid of Buda-Pest. If it's touristy, it is so for a reason - there is something to see there. I like touristy places when my time is short. I certainly agree, though, a touristy restaurant might not be my first choice as, like you, I prefer more authentic local fare in food for taste, selection and $$$.

    I'm glad you like Hungary, but i cannot agree that Budapest can be visited and explored in a single day.
    I think you missed a lot during your stay.
    I'm Hungarian (originally not from Budapest but from the second largest city) and haven't lived in Hungary for a long time, but I've been to Budapest several times and there's still a lot that I haven't seen or tried.

    Idiko Konyha makes a great porkolt, but sadly last two times I went they microwaved mine. Bad move. Fun facts: cabbage rolls are regional interpretation of dolmas, brought by the Turks in the 16th century (who also brought paprika and coffee). Csirke Paprikas was popularised (if not originated) by French master chef Escoffier in the late 19th century. Both are great, tho. Where do Hungarians get their citrus? Imports from Italy, Spain and North Africa primarily. Fun video, glad you guys got to visit!

    The stuffed cabbage that you ate, is a traditional greek food too! It's acctually the same.

    • @annamaria41
      @annamaria41 Рік тому +1

      I have three half-Greek, half-Hungarian children, but I have never heard from their father (who, by the way, is a chef here by profession), that Greece has the same stuffed cabbage as the Hungarians. We do it differently from the Greeks.Our stuffed cabbage is made with whole pickled(fermented) cabbage leaves.

    Pro tip: google translate sucks at translating hungarian, but the voice reading out the hungarian text actually has excellent pronounciation, you can rely on it to discover what is the correct way to say hungarian words.
