Saturday Projects/Bale Spear Repair/Grading The Driveway/Maple Syrup Continues

- Maple Syrup continues on the farm while Jen and Justin are away at the 2024 4-H Regional Project Bowl Competition. Alan is holding down the fort and getting a few things done on a toasty early March Saturday. Alan noticed some cracks forming where the bale fork attaches to the skid steer, so he got to work repairing it. After that, he tested his new welds by feeding out some round bales and grabbing the back blade for smoothing out the driveway. The back blade got put on the 820 John Deere and away it went. As the sun was going down, Alan took the Farmall B to get the feeder wagon and feed the dry cows and heifers some silage. Lastly, we checked in with how Justin's competition went.

We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

Maple syrup in the coffee. Makes for the best flavor.
Good job guys
Congratulations Justin and team. Lots of places are going to need rain to make up for no snow. Enjoy your maple syrup.
Take care and stay safe all !!!!!
Oh man, that medal was nice!! Good job Justin and team.
Great video and Justin I remember back when I was your age I got to show a calve I think, so many years now can't remember. I was a friend of a farmers lad and got to show a calve.
Too many years back now to calculate LOL as I am 83.
The bare pasture, spread a layer of manure on there and when the ground gets 50 and above with some rain it will green right up.
The automatic gate that is return, on your investment in your children.
Great job, Justin! Keep at it! I thought just Dairy Bowl was tough, but you did something tougher! And good luck to Jessica on her Dairy Bowl competition. I did it, and most of my kids did it, 1 made the State team and later won the National Collegiate Championship! Y'all are well on your way to great things. Excellent video 👍👍
I c U can still get those young girls excited! LOL Feed them ! LOLOLOL
Great Job
Congrats Justin proud of ya also I can smell the maple syrup from here ❤love u guys
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊
Heifers are looking nice! Surprised they aren’t short and fat on such a high corn silage diet, but it’s working 👍🏻
For your driveway you need a box scraper or better a "Road Boss" or similar". We had one on the farm I worked on had both and thr Road Boss really worked well o the dirt roads around the fields we farmed .
Very good job to all of y'all and God bless y'all
Boy you must be hard on that bale spear
Those Gehl machines just have so much power, they can't make them attachments heavy enough!
Need to order your Free gas cap for that B
Awesome Justin.
Congratulations justin
Congratulations Justin. Awesome job
That stove pipe reminded me of the 800 on the manure pump.
Hope you guys get some rain seems pretty dry again for you we got some rain last night here in northeast Wisconsin, we were getting dry also. Your young stock look nice after the winter .
Do you sell your syrup? You have a wonderful family. Thank you for bringing us along! Love the cows ❤
We don't sell any right now, but maybe in the future.
👀🙄🐾👍Interesting video Alan and Jennifer well done Justin and team
Good luck to Jessica with her competition on the 9th of March
Outstanding job young man.
Good job Justin
Where is happier didn’t see her with the heifers and dry cows
She was sold. We are on a quota now, so we have to watch how much milk we can produce.
Great job
I would’ve tipped the bale fork over and welded the inside also but if it works 👍
I was thinking of doing that, but it was a tricky angle to get in there. But if it cracks again, I'll probably try it.
Congratulations there Justin and the Maple syrup looks awful good I get some from a guy down here that does it and that stuff is really good I also got some from a the harvest festival done around here and he had sorghum Sir so I got some of that too and that's pretty good too what kind of mortal the molasses site yeah we could use some rain down here too I'm in kind of Midwest Minnesotass halfway between the Twin Cities and Watertown SD
Made me think of the Ag Fair competition scene in the movie "Napolean Dynamite".
If you can find it, check out the animated version.
We just watched the animated one, on Sunday.
Great video good job Justin
Great video 😊🐂🐃🐄
Congrats to the bowl champs good job . Love syrup operation lots of good memories. I know you alwas get lots of opinions and advise wanted or not here is one more you probably know this but if you can weld up hill penatration will be better its a little harder cause mean ol mr gravity wants to make thinks run down hill
Thanks for the tip!
Sure did enjoyed the video. Tks for the sap boiling update. Now are those your up and coming Herifers that you feed? They really looked nice. You have some top cows there. You B? You ever rebuild the engine in it? It's started and ran like it was new. Did lag any pulling the feeder wagon. Congratulations to Justin and team on there 4H. Good luck on your next round.👍
Good job Justin and team!!! That is so awesome!!! Another great video Alan and family! It’s always an awesome experience going with you and family on the day to day 😊. God bless you and family and just a quick question do you sell your maple syrup at all.
Not yet, but maybe in the future.

Haha!
I don't disagree!😂
Liked and subscribe sir
First rule the 4H tractor club teaches is never start a tractor when you’re not in the drivers seat
Alan you need a shave😂 good luck justin 👍
Your syrup is looking terrific compared to one of our last batches we accidentally turned into maple taffy! How are your milking cows doing lately, our girls just got over a terrible case of ring worm.
Ours are doing pretty good. We had a couple cases of pneumonia, but that's about it.
Would love to purchase your syrup😊
May I add a suggestion to my last comment? I have a outdoor little wood stove like yours. I do alot of cooking with it. Noithing like outdoor cooking. But I put a damper in the stove pipe and that make a world of difference. My set up is pretty much the same as what you have.
We do have a crud damper on the top of the pipe, but I am going to get a regular one. Thanks for watching!
@@trinitydairy it made a big difference with mine.
Bissell's might need to source more syrup this year. How's the yield looking up there?
Haha! Jen was pretty pumped about her 70 gallons of sap so far, and then the neighbor said he was at 690.
@trinitydairy Seriously, how many producers are there in that region? Is there an association of any kind for maple up that way that you know of? Nate has been working with some farmers in Wisconsin, and one family has started acting as a broker and coordinating semi-truck loads to be shipped to Ohio. They handle the grading and details on weight and quantity. They rally it together and put it on a truck where it's shipped to Jefferson.
Oh wow! I'm honestly not sure if there's an association in the area. There are a couple of hobbyists that are really into it. A friend of ours has helped a lot with learning to make syrup.
Hi I'm Jimmy Johnson from Pennsylvania how long does it take to milk your cow's and can you please tell me we're you live at me and my wife would love to visit you and your family
With 6 milkers it only takes about 30 minutes. We're in East Central Minnesota, but with our kids and stuff we don't let a lot of people come out to the farm.
What happened to the Farmal that you had on the farm ?
Myself brothers 560 is still around, just haven't used it much.
Great job Justin keep up the good work and studies for ur up coming meet
