@@vinceschouten46 I think Ms. Karen IS the Choir of Angels. That voice is just astonishing in its vocal quality and clarity. I've never heard another singer who can do what Karen did so effortlessly. Not before and not since. I've heard some other great singers try to cover her songs and they inevitably fail rather miserably. I think that's why you don't hear many others doing that. There's just no way to cover a Carpenters song and come out the other end looking good. They've already been done to perfection.

A pure, clear voice with not exaggeration, no need for voice acrobatics. Every time I hear their songs I simply cannot change the station. What a creative mind Richard has and paired with Karen, Wow!!!!
I remember hearing her gorgeous voice for the first time in the early 70's in high school choir class. Captivated by her beautiful tone and smoothness. I had never heard of the illness she passed away from till we lost her. Such a tragedy. They left us such beauty. Thanks Pat
I've recently come across various UA-camrs doing reaction videos on Carpenters songs. It is just wonderful to see the awe those listening to Carpenters for the first time experience. Still, 50 years later, awesome. As a 9 year old, her voice just captivated my heart, when it was not "cool" to like such music. Thank-you, Karen (and Richard), for being the calming, soothing, comforting voice of my youth.
Growing up in Southfield Michigan in the 1970's we were exposed to all of the Rock and Roll coming into Detroit. I remember when this song was released. I remember everyone just stopped what they were doing. It was that lush heaven sent voice surrounded by the background voices. No one ever hears such a perfect voice like Karen Carpenter. It was not cool back then to admit you loved the Carpenters they seemed too squeaky clean to be a high schooler's choice when everyone was listening to KISS and Alice Cooper but secretly we all listened to the Carpenters

@@jaybrielakoi7747 - it's probably because in today's world we are used to seeing women in roles formerly dominated by men. As a young boy growing up in the 70's, I didn't see female police officers or female pilots or female playing electric guitars or drums. I'm old so I was fortunate enough to see The Carpenters Live in Concert on two occasions. Karen was an unbelievably accomplished drummer which she loved to do and did some things on the drums live that was jaw dropping. Playboy Magazine (back when the Articles WERE really Pretty Interesting) always put out a Yearly Music poll of who they considered best in the entire music industry crossing all genres and in 1975, Karen was voted best Drummer edging out some guy named John Bonham. What is so sad is that just like in this video, Karen preferred to sing while behind her Drum Kit, but as the group became more popular, TV Execs and other "Smart" Promoters wanted her out front with just a microphone to highlight her voice. This is considered by many to be the root cause of her early devastating death. She felt so self conscious not being able to hide or blend in with her drums, she thought she had to look like the Perfect Girl which in the 70's was ridiculously skinny. The more popular they got the less she would eat to compensate for those appearances 'Out Front in the Spotlight'. She just wanted to be a Simple Girl with an amazing musical talent and an Angelic voice. Oh what the World missed out on when she was silenced.
I love not only how well she could sing, but that she could do it so well while playing the drums. I was fortunate enough to see her in concert, and she sounded just as amazing live.
I was hearing the Carpenters before I can remember. They were still fairly new to the scene when I was born in '66 but I always liked them. My aunt used "We've Only Just Begun" as her wedding March. They were such an integral part of the late '60s thru the '70s. I remember watching the news of her death and my family was just completely shocked. Whether you liked their music at the time or not, you just can't deny such amazing talent coming from Karen and her brother. I struggle with my voice being in a church choir but Karen seemed to do it so effortlessly.
Always liked the Carpenters as a young teenager. And I won’t forget that wonderful voice of Karen Carpenter. I was also saddened by her passing so very young and way to soon at thirty two years old.
my suggestion would be "Calling Occupants" In 'my' personal opinion, Karens voice was, and is, one of the top 5(if not the top itself) vocals, ever. No auto-tune fakery to be found. Just honest, real, TALENT. And the fact that she NEVER wanted to be the singer, just the drummer, makes the irony so much sadder. and for those that are wondering why i said the irony was sad, it is because being the face of the band (lead singers burden), she felt uncomfortable about how she looked, which drove her to anorexia, (which was not a well understood issue in those days) , leading to her death one month before her 33rd birthday.
How appropriate that you had your bird friend with you for this! The music of the seventies is sadly underrated. Great singers, great songs that told stories. Legends walked the earth.
it's Fun to watch a Hard Man turn to mush under the presence of Awesomeness. 2nd vid of this cub watching Karen Carpenter and he's been enchanted. such fun.
I remember Dionne Warwick being asked about her thoughts on Karen Carpenter. She gave a little sigh and said "Such a sweet, sweet voice". You could tell she really meant it and could see the sadness in her eyes as well.
That soothing quality of Karen’s voice is amazing. So rare to see a drummer as lead singer, Karen’s true love. So multitalented. Tragic loss but awesome that she’s still being honored.

I have always loved the Carpenters. They had many fantastic hits. Some of their album cuts were also fantastic, like their cover of Desperado by the Eagles and their cover of Ticket To Ride (1970) by the Beatles. They also did a great album cut called Happy. All of these songs were meant to be heard. I really hope you will review them.
What strikes you the most about her singing? To me is just how effortless she makes it look. I sing, and I know a little something about it.
