Karen's voice is the best female voice in history. Her career only lasted 15 years because of the suffering she put herself through. She died from anorexia in 1985. An absolute superstar.
Darrin...1983
Her death certificate cites she died from a Hyperosmolar Coma. A diabetic coma. Her bloodsugar was 1110!
Amazing that she was never diagnosed as a diabetic?
@@jackhouran8851 I agree. She may have developed it during her last hospital stay which ended 3 months before her death, where she was pumped full of glucose to gain weight. I believe she was diabetic and failed to take her insulin. Her autonomic nervous system shut down, preventing her heart from starting when paddled.
@@billparthum206wrong, she died bcos anorexia.
She had such a hauntingly beautiful voice that is unmatched. Perfect pitch. ❤️❤️
No-one comes close
Karen was incredible and for 40 years I thought I'd never hear that pure voice again but then I heard Tori Holub on UA-cam singing The Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling and you would swear that Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde!!
I've heard lots in great female singers in my life, but I've never heard a voice like Karen Carpenter's. The word "unique" gets worn out a bit, but it does apply to her voice.
So we'll said. I definitely agree with you because there is no equal to her.
I grew up with the Carpenters' music. Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Superstar", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.
Check out some of her drum solos -- among the absolute best.
You would really like Lucy Thomas.
Karen's voice just penetrates right to the soul, and elicits an emotional reaction, and Richard's brilliant arangements are always there to showcase her vocal splendour...
therapy for the soul is her voice and how she was a master storyteller..
Karen had perfect pitch and incredible voice control. They'll never be another Karen Carpenter....
and the most perfect diction/enunciation of any vocalist (not just a singer, but a VOCALIST) of any male or female I have ever heard...Not a single word of any lyric for any song she sang was every a throwaway word or even syllable....
There's not even a close 2nd. Karen's on another plateau!
I grew up with the Carpenters. Karen had a voice like velvet. She was an excellent drummer and I can’t think of any of their music that was not a hit. Lost her way to early 😢. Her fight with anorexia brought that disease to the attention of the public for the first time and helped so many others get help.
The group is THE Carpenters. It is a brother and sister led group and it is their family name. Karen always had the most melancholy warmth in her voice. Richard was the one on piano and was great at arrangements.
The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters)...
As Devildog said. The group is “Carpenters” the the part comes in when the English language demands the article. Just look at the iconic logo, no ‘the’ to be seen.
OK. I am corrected. thank you.
why ae you saying all this...did he ask....he knows who she is, her brother, their group. SMH.
Maybe, arguably, the greatest female vocalist in a generation... She's got my vote! Karen Carpenter!
All of Karen's songs are beautiful and she was an accomplished drummer also.
Absolutely an incredible drummer, Karen felt secure behind the drums . What an amazing voice , along with her brother Richard. The great Drummer Buddy Rich told Karen she was amazing. R.I.P. Karen ❤️🙏😢, a talent that left the world 🌎 way too soon . ❤😢
I grew up listening to The Carpenters. Can't tell you how many people had "We've Only Just Begun" sung at their weddings. Karen's voice is like a sweater on a chilly fall day..warm and comfortable. She left us too soon and under such sad, sad circumstances.
And ironically enough few people realise that the song started out as a jingle for Crocker Bank...
Karen was incredible and for 40 years I thought I'd never hear that pure voice again but then I heard Tori Holub on UA-cam singing The Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling and you would swear that Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde!!
IMHO and millions of others you just listened to the best female voice in music or human history. Whoever coined the phrase Nobody's Perfect, never heard Karen Carpenter sing!. A song that will reach past your heart to your soul is "You're The One. All their songs are top tier. The rabbit hole is very deep.
Truly a voice from heaven..........R.I.P. Miss Karen ✌️
The Carpenters has many hits.
We've Only Just Begun
Top Of The World
Yesterday Once More are good next starts.
She was such an incredible artist.
She was one of the first female drummers and had an incredible voice.
She struggled with anorexia for most of her short life
Her husband was cruel and would tell her she was unattractive which just drove her eating disorder even harder.
They weren't married long and she refocused on her career.
She died at 32 years old of heart failure due to the anorexia and from chronically using laxatives and illegally obtained thyroid medicine to speed up her metabolism.
She had just previous to her death sought medical help but the damage to her heart was too severe.
The best female voice ever ❤
One of the most beautiful, pitch perfect female voices of all time! No one like her before or since! The first time I heard her in the 70’s…I wasn’t a “pop” music fan. I stopped though and asked “WHO is she?” Her voice just stands out!
You can't help but smile when listening to Karen's voice. It's like she's right in the room with you singing only to you. Richard's piano an arrangement makes it just about perfect. Karen always considered herself a drummer who sang. She was an amazing drummer.
sorry, this song does NOT make me smile...in fact most of her songs, I feel immense sadness...she was fighting a battle she was unable to control....she was terribly sick. most of her songs are filled with sadness.
You described Karen's voice as like a warm bath. For me, it's like a warm blanket on a crisp Autumn night.
Everything she did was great. Bless the Beast and the Children was done for charity.
her brother was beside her all the way and keeps her memory alive even in this day and age. the purest voice of her generation.
I had every one of the Carpenters' records in my formative years. I still know the songs by heart. It is said her voice was a perfect contralto. When she first auditioned she sang soprano and the producers were not interested. Her brother Richard, {the piano player} told her to just sing in her normal voice and the rest is history. Just a gorgeous voice. So sad she couldn't overcome her sense of not being thin enough. Tragic.
I have been a Carpenters fan since I was a young teenager (I’m now 66 years old). Karen’s voice along with the harmonies and Richard Carpenter’s arrangements result in an immersive experience like no other.
Ms. Carpenters voice wasn't one in a million, it was one in a lifetime!
The best selling group of the 70's in an era of hard rock phenomes, caused many promoters pass on the Carpenters initially...........ROFL. Everything Karen and her brother Richard, who did all the arrangments touched, turned to gold. Her untimely death from Anorexia Nervosa in 83' shock both the musical and medical worlds. You can close your eyes and throw a dart at their song list and naer to miss a soft rock master piece.
As others have said, Richard was the one on the piano, but Karen also played drums. You can see her playing the drums in this video. Any of their songs are worth the listen. I grew up listening to them and can't agree more with you about her voice.
Karen had a wonderful singer & a Great loss
I think their song We've only just begun was the most popular wedding song for a few years
Now we’re getting somewhere! The Carpenters…….music of my youth. Close to You, Top of The World, Bless the Beasts and the Children. I don’t think you’ve reacted to Mac Davis yet. Give a listen to his In The Ghetto or my favorite from him, Whoever Finds This I Love You.
She was on another level. Such professional talent, and Richard as well. For decades I hadn't known that she played the drums. Come to find out is was her true passion but her voice was a gift to the world for sure.
A voice for the generations. Why has no one copied her sound??....because you can't copy that kind of greatness. Gone too soon.
Karen Was a drummer who could sing like an angel ,
Yes, she was a great drummer with a beautiful voice!
I loved the carpenters… unmatched singing and song writings. Karen’s brother Richard played the piano.
This will ALWAYS remind me of my Mom. She would play it on a portable 8 track player when we went to our cabin during summer vacation. Sure do miss her
Between both of them their talent was prolific. Her voice, his arrangements: truly special and unique.
If you are unfamiliar with The Carpenters, Karen is undoubtedly an amazing singer, but she’s also a great drummer. There are several really good videos of her showing off her drum skills.
This is my absolute favorite Carpenters song. Her voice is perfection!
I tried to figure out what my favorite Carpenters's song could be.... Turned out that it is the one I am listening to when I try to figure it out! As I have every song they recorded on reel to reel (as well as on once played vinyl) WAV on my computer (transferred from reel to reel) I started keeping track of the songs I listen to most. Turns out "Sweet Sweet Smile" " I Need To Be In Love" "Groupie (Superstar)" "Solitaire" are my favorite with "Reason To Believe" being most favorite. ua-cam.com/video/kTWeHeM6mZI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=awhwong
Karen's voice is incomparable and her brother's arrangements really showcase her talent.
Nobody sounds like her. Those big brown eyes always got me.
The Carpenters “Yesterday Once More” is perhaps my favorite. Trust me when I say, it will grab you…just from the first 9 words…
What a loss! I still don't understand anorexia. She was a gift
If you like the Carpenters, you will also love the Mamas and the Papas. Mama has an amazing voice and together their harmonies were exquisite. Try California Dreaming or Monday Monday.
I have always loved this song, even if this is rather sad.
She made the ultimate wedding song in We've only just began.
The background voices were done by Karen and Richard singing over a dozen different harmonies, then stacking the ones Richard liked best until they reached that "Carpenters" sound.
Amazing how she could sing so pure while playing the drums.
The Carpenters music always makes me nostalgic. My mom always liked their music so it makes me think of my mom singing their songs when I was growing up ❤
Listening to The Carpenters were a big part of my teen age years. I still have their greatest hits album and still listen to it. They were that good. It is hard to pick a favorite since every song they did was so good but I'll suggest "Goodbye To Love", "Sing" "Yesterday Once More", and "I Need To Be In Love".
Gary, I listen to her almost everyday! Saw her in 74!!!
@@michaelasay8587 Oh, I am so jealous. 😀
Karen Carpenter is the reason I began to sing when I was young. She was my idol. I was devastated when she passed away so young.😢
There will never be another Karen Carpenter. She was the gold standard.
Karen Carpenter had an amazing voice.
One of the greatest voices, male or female of the Rock era. Huge following in the 70s.
Karen recorded this song lying flat down on pillows on the studio floor. She wanted to get that pure melancholy heartfelt feeling to really come through in her vocals. Karen truly sang from her heart❤ We miss you Karen❤
I always get a huge smile on my face when I see you've posted a new video. It was that much bigger today because I saw you were reacting to, in my opinion, the greatest female vocalist of all time. Karen was a treasure and you won't go wrong listening to any of the songs by The Carpenters. My favorites would probably be Superstar, Goodbye to Love and their amazing version of A Song for You.
Omg Yes. Both make me cry .
The Carpenters r so great. I love Karen's voice. Her voice is like home. It's so soothing and effortless. She was so talented.
Wow doesn't quite cut it, I'll have to say it backwards. "wow". Her voice never was before and never shall be repeated. And then she sang from her heart. Such a loss to the world with her passing
I seem to recall reading a story that John Lennon happened her upon leaving a restaurant in L.A. and commenting on how he loved her voice. She later asked her manager if he really meant it...incredible! She was so humble and self-deprecating...
Always brings to back to my youth. You hear two lines and you know its her. Then harmonies kick in to confirm it's The Carpenters.
LATE COMMENT: This is the one video that gets to me the most. Seeing how beautiful Karen was and knowing her story. She thought of herself as a drummer that could sing first and foremost. It took her a while to get to the front of the stage. Her brother Richard played piano and did most of the songwriting and arranging as well as supervising recordings. No one had a voice like Karen, and never will have. Unfortunately, that voice was silenced much too early. After battling depression and eating disorder of anorexia nervosa, she died of heart failure due to the damage of her heart from it.
I’m delighted you reacted to the Carpenters! Grew up listening to them. Hands down the most beautiful voice ever! Taken from us too soon but what a legacy! ❤
I can’t believe you’ve never heard of the Carpenters. They were a staple for me growing up. It still 😢 breakers 😢 my heart ❤️ what she did too herself. The world lost a CLASS SINGER. Geez I LOVE 💕 The Carpenters. 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️💕
Love her "Song for You" and "Yesterday Once More"
It is slways, always about that voice. Been described like listening to an angel sing. I'll go along with that. Or being surrounded by a warm blanket next to a fire with a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter's night=Karen's voice.❤RIP, you are sorely missed, but your vocals will always be with us. AMEN.
Karen considered herself a drummer who sang. There is an awesome video of her drumming on different setups.
Auto-tune would implode if someone used it on karen Carpenter's voice. Welcome to the club, my friend.
This song seems like it should be sad but it always cheers me up.
EVERY time I hear this song it gives me the chills!! She was an amazing talent gone way too soon!
It never ceases to amaze me how many men love Carpenters.
One of the most iconic female voices of the 20th century. Gone way too soon.
A warm bath is the best description of Karen Carpenter's voice I have heard. Genius.
One of her nicknames was "one take Karen". She said she always saw herself and a drummer who could sing a bit. I was the same age as her and loved her voice from the first time I heard her. I was shocked when she died. What a loss. Listen to their song "Superstar" it's great.
Good reaction. Im in my 60s and remember Carpenters well. Herb Alpert heard Karen's voice on a demo in 1969 and signed her brother, Richard, and her to A&M records. Karen received 3 or 4 Grammys in the 70s and sold over 80 million records by 1982. She was 1975 rock drummer of the year according to Playboy. KC had the most beautiful voice-ever, and perhaps THE best female vocalist-ever, because she compels you to listen as she sings in perfect pitch TO you, not at you, with emotion and enunciation. No auto-tune or gimmicks. No professional voice or drum instruction. She was known by the studios as 'one take'. She rarely, if ever, did more than one take of any song. She was also the ONLY female harmony/background voice in all her songs. She was truly born with an incredible singing talent. Documentaries point out the accolades to her voice, such as, Paul McCartney said she had the most angelic voice after hearing her sing 'Ticket To Ride'. John Lennon ran into her at an LA restaurant and told her "you have a fabulous voice, luv". Supposedly Frank Sinatra stated that Karen was the only singer he'd pay to hear. I recommend songs such as, Yesterday Once More, Solitaire, This Masquerade, Need To Be In Love, Hurting Each Other, Only Yesterday, I Can Dream Cant I, Crescent Noon, Ordinary Fool, Superstar, Rainy Days and A Song For You, etc. KC never knew true love. One of her few friends included Dionne Warwick. 5'3" KC really lost weight, due to anorexia, in earnest beginning in 1975. She died in Feb 1983 at age 32 due to heart complications from anorexia.
One of the best contemporary voices of our age.
Karen Carpenter and her brother Richard are the Carpenters. I was a member of the Carpenters fan club back in the n early 1970s face is my fan club card was 187 so I was in the first 200 to join, I believe I was the first to say to say Karen's voice was Angelic. If you really want to rabbit hole the Carpenters do the greatest hits. It was a very sad day when she passed away from Anorexia,, well she was getting better and was starting to gain weight again but from taking so much ipecac to make herself throw up it damaged her heart and she passed due to heart failure. I was lucky enough to see them in Savannah Georgia and meet them back stage after the concert. Anyway give the greatest hits a listen and you will love each one of the songs.
The voice of an angel gone all too soon.
She was a wonderful and beautiful artist.
The first time i ever cried for someone i didn't know personally upon hearing of her death. I was 20 yrs old. The second time was AMY.
When I hear that gorgeous melancholy voice, I get goose bumps.
“Only Yesterday” is an upbeat song. Ive always loved the Carpenters.
Isn’t she spectacular?? That’s her brother Richard on the keys. Absolutely beautiful ❣️❣️
She actually played with her brothers doing the backing. 🥹🥲🤷♀️🙏❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Her songs always spoke directly to my soul...she sang about the feelings that I knew so well ..such a tragic loss of someone who never knew how beautiful she was...miss you so much, Karen...
I love that you went right into the song without an “intro”…nice touch with a song like this.
There isn't a song that she didn't make magical. One of the best voices EVER.
A tragic story. Herb Alpert (A&M Records) still tears up when talking about her.
Does it really matter how this amazing woman died. She had an angelic voice...
Lets not forget Richard, a musical genius who did all the arrangements
The actual bands name is The Carpenters, as shown on the bass drum. She was marvelous.
Karen was the most AWESOME singer I have ever heard! She could literally sing anything!
Ya know, I’m not that touched when a famous person passes away. Except for only 2 people. One is Karen and the other is Princess Diana. I actually get sad to hear Karen’s voice, knowing what we missed out on by not being able to hear new songs from her. And I can’t say enough about princes Diana. All the good things she did, and what she went through and her demise in the end. So tragic for both. Thank you for reacting to Karen. Have a blessed day.
No woman singer can hit those lower notes so effortlessly as she does and then go high and not lose anything in her tone. She is my favorite female singer and Marilyn McCoo a very close second.
Possibly my favourite female voice of all time. Not to mention SHE’S A DRUMMER!! ❤️ I always thought this song was a window into her struggles
Karen.... God's gift to us all! Sooooooo....sooooo.... tragic, her struggle with anorexia-nervosa! What a pure spirit she was! God rest her beautiful soul!!
Love the Carpenters
Karen was the best, period. As a teenager, I listened to the Carpenters for hours and hours.
My mother's generation had the great Judy Garland and mine Karen Carpenter! Nothing more needs to be said❤❤❤
ENDLESSSS AND TIMELESSSS 😊, HARD TO BELIEVE SHE WAS GONE ( 40 ) YEARS IN FEBRUARY 😮 YEAH SHE'D BE 72 NOW, KEEP ENJOYINGGGG THIS GREAT ANGEL AND LEGEND 😊
Yesterday Once More was the first song I heard by these artists and I was hooked ever since. That's a great song.
A MUST listen to…”Superstar”.
This song, superstar and a lot of Christmas songs would be a good start
In addition to sing lead vocals she's also playing the drums. What a talenet!!!
