anytime I want to re-visit this version of this amazing song... I always go back to Patrol Gaming. Ginger Bear knows a good performance when he sees one and it's great to see him appreciate Heart...
Ditto and Ditto!
I still believe that's the best cover of Stairway I've ever heard.
i agree. and we all know how many times stairway has been covered. party on excellent!!! lol
This is far and away the best live version of Stairway by anyone - including Zeppelin themselves. Never did they give the song this majestic treatment.
There was only 4 of them , remember...lol
Even with the 5 (and some claim '6') guitar overdubs and the 3 overdubs of keyboards, the profundity of this 'cover' is the incredible homework done by the performers and arrangers to 'get this right' and to even swap out some parts - the choir's replacement of the 2nd lead guitar towrads the end of The Solo, for example. They had enough guitarists on-stage to mimic the song but decided to have the choir's power do that 'fill' instead. Simply superb.
@@BuffaloC305 What do you mean by 5 or 6 guitar overdubs and 3 keyboard overdubs? On this performance? Are you talking about the original recording or this performance?
Ann Wilson took that song to a whole new level. She’s a rock goddess
Ann took everyone to church that night....transcendent!
OOHH YEAHH.YES SHE DID. MAGNIFICENT. ANN & NANCY.
She was 62 years old.
Robert Plant later said in an interview that it was his favorite version of his song as well❤️
Awww! That's really sweet of him! They nailed it! Of course I'm biased. I love both bands to pieces!🥰😍
Uh, yeah, well, she sang it like he couldn't since the 70s and there was a full orchestra and 2 choirs making it utterly majestic. I think there were something like 300 people on stage for that performance. A mind blowing performance of an iconic song like that only come together once in a lifetime if that often.
This is Page's song. Plant's favorite I believe is Kasmire? Either way great song and great performance
It was great no doubt, and there isn't a better vocalist to do it than Ann Wilson. But I could have done without all the horns and orchestra stuff. It was almost to the point of being gaudy with multiple choirs and such. very close to being way too over the top. I would have loved to have seen Ann Wilson and the band just simply rock out to it with a simple rock band instead of all this bombast.
@@xaosnox Once in a lifetime. You and I and thousands of others were able to experience this. I actually feel blessed having seen and listened to this. Mind-blowing.
Told you, 50 years and still rocking...badass women of rock.
They rocked that song...it was fantastic.
in her 60`s their..unreal
Ann's voice still seems as powerful and potent as ever!!!! Talk about a timeless rock voice, she's a true queen.
Damn straight!!!
Texas Magnolia there is none better than The Wilson sisters 🎸🎤
Robert Plant was definitely crying very moving performance by Heart!🔥🔥🔥 The Wilson sisters are ledgetary! Ann Wilson has one the greatest rock voices period!👏👏👏
Yes he was and so was Jimmy Page. Was wonderful
Wasn't that so sweet!
ROBERT AND DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE GOING TO DO THIS ABC HE DIDN'T KNOW JASON WAS GOING TTI BE THERE... HE AND JASON ARE CLOSE AND JOHN WAS ROBERTS CLOSEST FRIEND.
Its because they didn’t know Jason was going to be playing with them, especially stairway to heaven
Yes, I watched an interview where Plant was saying he totally enjoyed the performance especially seeing Jason Bonham on drums made him emotional.
If you don't tear up when Jason looks heavenward and then after pats his heart and Robert does the same you officially have no soul!
When you get Robert Plant in tears.... you nailed it! BEST COVER EVER!!!!
Dude I've watched that at least 50 times. It is the best version ever. I'll watch it 50 more.
Me too. At least 50. Love it
Four times today!
So who is going to launch the Zepp championship for the shortest time to tears rolling down cheeks? I spotted Obama managed it when Aretha had just walked on stage at the Kennedy Center.
How wonderful the world looks without the scowling ex President.
When I need lifted up, this is the video I watch...it just fills you.
Me too ... at least 50 times! Goosebumps!
To have Zep cry to their own song ...you did it right.
I met Nancy Wilson last year at the Rock and Roll Fanatasy Camp in LA. She spoke of this performance. She could not see anyone though the lights. If she had, she would have been incredibly nervous. About the greatest moment of her career.
Lucky guy. Nancy was one of my teen crushes. Even now that I'm a granddad, I'd be a complete mess if I was in the same room as her.
O.K. I'm going to put this out there. I have worked the Kennedy Center Honors for the past 30 years. I watched this performance from the 2nd tier of the Opera House. It was one of the best experiences I've had in that building. Definitely top five. TV screens are placed to the right and left of the three tiers so the performance can be seen better, but I really love watching this the way they showed it on TV at the end of December 2012.☺️ Awesome!
I get goosebumps when the choir comes in, and usually am crying by the climax towards the end.
every time. me too
Yes
When you said the hat makes him look so much like his dad the first tear fell. That IS actually Bonzo's hat AND his kit that he's drumming on. He showed up to really honor his father.
he was asked by the members of Zep if he would be their guest and attend. he told them he was sorry but had a gig that night
It was beautiful
Watching Led Zeppelin's reaction was amazing, the emotion and memories it must have brought up for them. Ann's voice to John's son on the drums and the choir wearing John's hat... incredible 💖
Glad you mentioned why they all wore those Bowler hats, and when Jason lifted his eyes to heaven..Man..can't stop the tears!
I saw an interview with Jason Bonham where he said the members of Led Zeppelin didn't know he was going to be there. So part of Robert Plant's emotional reaction was because of that.
James Woolston: The very end when Jason turned his eyes up to say thanks to his dad, did it for me, the other gesture was from that grand lady of rock, Bonny Raitt waving her arms to the music.
@@sirmartinfrobisher and Debbie allen even yoyo ma is groovin.
@@ellenbacklin Debbie Allen had to have her hands up to feel the music and absorb it as well as hear it. You know you got it right when it affects you like that!
@@sirmartinfrobisher I also loved seeing the great classical cellist YoYo Ma closing his eyes and enjoying the experience.
The only version that can hold a light to the original.
This smokes the original - the best version ever.
Well done, but the reactions I loved were by the surviving members of Led Zeppelin.
Exactly, imagine performing that song in front of Led Zeppelin. I am sure Ann Wilson was confident and Jason Bonham was probably cool with it but I don't know who played the guitar solo but I wonder if he was nervous playing in front of Page.
Ditto!
Im. Haapy👏👍❤💓💘
When the large choir in back was revealed at 6:25 and Robert Plant saw they were all wearing bowlers to honor John Bonham, you can read his lips: "Oh my God!"
@@VinE83656 Regardless, Page appeared delighted about the performance. He was wildly clapping at the end.
This IS one of the greatest moments in rock history.
YUP.
Ann wilsons voice.. Is just beyond.
Heart did an AMAZING JOB on this song!!!
When the full choir comes in at the end it chokes me up. Every. Single Time. Stunning.
I swear the first time I heard this performance, it was a spiritual experience! Talk about SHOOK!
The Wilsons didn't know what they were going to be singing until the day before the show. They practiced that day and the day of the program, plus Ann had the flu. Amazing!
Didn't know she was sick. God. Omg. She's a rock goddess
I love this, too! It was partly Ann's fabulous voice, but we got to see the original performers reactions, plus Bonham's son on drums, plus the choir...just over-the-top awesome :-) Thank you for.doing this one!
And the hats. Jason was wearing one, too, in tribute to his dad.
agree they never got t he recognition they deserve. such accomplished muscians
They are sisters the one that plays the guitar
It is the industry’s way of acknowledging a lifetime of work.
Their version gets me every time I watch this. What an amazing performance and to see Robert Plant get so emotional about it too. When they bring in the choir man just goose bumps.
I loved your reaction to this performance!
Robert Plant's reaction went well beyond the outstanding performance of this iconic song. When Plant's 5 year old son died in 1977, he went back to England and his good friend, drummer John Bonham went with him. For some time after the funeral, Bonham was by Plant's side though the darkest times of his life. Then when Bonham died in 1980, Plant went right to Bonham's home to be with their family. Seeing his dear friends son playing drums was icing on the cake and a beautiful tribute to Bonham.
I've been a huge Led Zeppelin fan since the mid 70's and will never forget hearing on the radio on Friday, September 26, 1980 that John Bonham had died the day before. I was in the Navy and stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center at the time. I spent that whole weekend in my barracks in mourning, listening to Led Zeppelin. I've watched this video many times and it brings me to tears every time.
And to play it live in front of Plant,Page and Jones WOW.
Lady has a set of pipes!! Always have loved Heart !!!
This is the best cover of any song. Period.
I agree , best cover ever.
loved this cover... loved seeing Yo Yo Ma rockin' out, along with Debbie Allen, Stephen Colbert and Bonnie Raitt (so many more!).... the power of music!
Ann and Nancy Wilson are absolutely phenomenal, this performance is the best I have ever seen in my life , especially with led Zeppelin sitting up in the audience and they Absolutely loved it and were emotionally touched and it looked like Robert plant had tears in his eyes, this nearly brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful.
Yes! This is definitely the best cover of the song and Heart is great!
The most amazing thing to me is that Heart flew in like the day before or the day of the performance and had performed somewhere in Florida (I think) the night before. One could easily think they spent many hours prepping for that performance, but no. On the other hand they have been prepping for that their whole career as Zeppelin was an inspiration for their career. They perform a Zeppelin song at every show they do.
I saw Heart in the late 80's and their encore was Rock and Roll. Epic!
They, Heart, always make excellent covers of LZ. Wilson's sisters are great
Great information. You know the music director of the Kennedy center honors. Hes the pianist and played guitar in this. I messaged him and told him how amazing he and the other background musicians are. They have to know opera classical eagles, santana, herbie hancock, etc etc. That's talent.
Probably helped them to not have time to prepare/and be rushed... didn't give them, time to get nervous and think about it too much
Apparently they did have a few practice sessions before they had to take off for their show in Florida and thought they were terrible and not at all ready. It all came together for this performance.
I have watched this so many times and I can assure you it never, never gets stale.. Amazing version. I think the lead guitarist is the arranger of this. Great reaction. So glad you enjoyed it.
Me too
Thanks for posting the full version of this. I've seen the edited version. Truly an amazing performance. When the whole choir came up at the end that just blew me away.
Gives you goosebumps, such a great performance.
They edited the crap out of it then you couldn't find it for a while. I was sad. But you can find it again.
Great choice! What a wonderful and deserved proper reaction to this. We, as humans, are not always witness to perfection; Heart's cover of this song is perfect and my personal favorite version. You, my friend, have, from what I can see, a great taste for music and your reaction demonstrates that. Keep doing it! TC
WOW!!! She is the female Robert Plant..
no. anne and nancy are themselves. calling her a female robert plant is an insult to both of them. theyre both great, but no comparison.
You can't beat Heart~~ I don't care how many times I've seen this.. it's a masterpiece every time~ Thanks! Some suggestions for them... Crazy on You, These Dreams, Barracuda, Magic Man, Alone...
The votes are in. That’s the greatest cover of all time.
Watching Jummy Page's reaction was great. He looked like he was truly enjoying the song.
You can't ever go wrong with Heart!!!!! She was ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!!!! 🔥💟🔥
Best cover EVER of this song!
Fun fact: Paul Shaffer arranged this performance. That’s his band, and he arranged the instrumentals and the two sets of choruses. Basically the entire production as you see it was his idea. You can briefly see him at some point in the video near his band, so he deserves so much credit too for this legendary earth shattering performance! When you’re done watching, look for the band’s appearance on David Letterman on UA-cam. They discuss watching this performance a day after this event. David was honored the same night. The Kennedy Center Honors are basically a high honor given by the President to those in the performing arts for their lifetime contributions.
Seeing Robert getting emotional ALWAYS brings a tear to my eye..
I wonder what images of past memories went through Robert Plants head!! For sure there was John Henry Bonham in his thoughts, his son is playing drums here, those tears don't lie.
She gave that song Justice wow that was fantastic
Led Zeppelin and Heart two of my very favorite bands growing up
Dude, I love that you did this. I've seen this many times and think it's one of the greatest covers/tribute ever.
Love this performance so much, I remember watching this on tv! You should definitely react to more Kennedy Center Honors, they honor a wide variety of remarkable impactful people. Great Job!
Epic Chills Every Single Time I watch/hear this... NAILED IT 🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🎧🎸🎤🥁🎧🎸🎤🥁🎧🎸🎤🥁
Ann Wilson is the queen of Rock. Period.
If you want to hear Nancy take the lead on a song, you should listen to "These Dreams", it's a beautiful song!!
Nancy is an ok singer, but she's not a world class vocalist like Ann. She's a virtuoso acoustic guitarist.
Your lack of words is the BEST reaction......this takes your breath away. Thank you!
The first I heard this I was as blown away as you... Heart made Led Zeppelin proud. Doing that version in front of the boyz amazed even them!! \m/
So enjoyed your reaction and your comments. I remember the first time I saw this I was so stunned that Heart covered this is such a spectacular way. And you could see Led Zeppelin loved it too.
FYI The Kennedy Center is an Opera House, a very stately building, named in memorial for John F. Kennedy, in Washington D.C. The Kennedy Center Honors started in the late 1970's as a lifetime achievement award to honor significant contributions in the entertainment industry to American culture by anyone, American or not. Most of the shows I've seen are attended by the sitting president and his spouse. The Trumps have not attended in 2017 or 2018 as far as I know. I've read that some people commented that they see this as representative of the schism between Trump and the Arts.
PS Congratulations on subscribers increasing so much. You deserve it.
Man, not only do I ADORE this version, I LOVE LOVE your reaction. Rock on.
Liking this song is impossible because it is so amazing it is beyond description. I cried alot. I have no idea why. The whole experience. Her voice, the band, the choir, the reaction of Led Zeppelin and the tribute. It's great to see talent recognized so beautifully. Your reaction was also deep.
Hands down, the best cover of Stairway to Heaven I've ever heard. Anne is amazing and the musicians crushed it.
Wow! What a way to honor the original and Led Zeppelin. I'd seen this before but didn't realize the background choir or that The Obama's were in the audience. This was just incredible ❤️❤️
My WORD! Even though I've seen this performance before, hearing Ann's voice when she begins this song gives me goosebumps. Heart are AMAZING!!!
Adam Lambert does a version of “Believe” in honor of Cher @ the Kennedy Center Honors. It is absolutely awesome. And Ann Wilson, that woman has beautiful pipes. Now, back in the 80’s the music industry would focus on Nancy bc Ann had gained a bit of weight. I was a mad young lady then. At that time I had that hourglass shape- 38-24-39 & was pretty trim. But, it still upset me that they put so much stress on the her weight. To me, talent is talent & to me(I may have ppl who disagree but....) Ann Wilson has the absolute most talent in Heart. I love the band period. But, they could never replace her.
That's why, when you watch their videos from the 80s, they always had Ann behind things or otherwise hid her body and put Nancy out front. It's about damn time they truly appreciated one of the world's greatest female vocalists.
I strayed from your Home Free reaction and found this gem! I’ve seen this one several years ago and was blown away! Ann Wilson, in my opinion, is one of the best female vocalists of my time, if not all time. I’ve seen Heart twice in my life (once during their peak time (early 80’s and in 2010). They were amazing both times! Loved this performance and your reaction was on point to sone of the best Classic Rock ever!! Long live Rock! 🤘🏻
This is what music should do. It is one of the best performances I have ever seen. Literally brings tears to my eyes every single time.
New subscriber!!! Heart is a favorite group of mine. I've been listening to Heart since the 70's! Ann's vocals and Nancy's skillful artistry on the guitar make these two sisters a force to be reckoned with. Great reaction to these 2 beautiful sisters from Seattle❤❤
It's layering arrangement that put it over the top.
That's the type of performance that leaves you breathless and in total awe.
Every time!
By far THE BEST cover of Stairway To Heaven I have ever seen!! Insanely awesome!!!
Oh yeah! I remember this performance! My eyes got misty when the cameras kept showing the band's reaction...it was pretty emotional. Heart was so perfect for this song choice. Definitely one of the best tribute performances! ♡♡♡
Heart is the bomb! They have so many great songs! These are just some of my favorites!
Magic Man
Crazy On You
Barracuda
Alone
These Dreams
Never
Nothin' At All
All I wanna Do Is Make Love To You
Will You Be There
So many more!
My god what a performance!!!! Still have chills since 2012! Lol
It amazes me that all those instruments and all the people singing the vocals do do it perfectly.
More Heart you say?? You might want to try "Alone" where it is done as essentially a duet with just Anne and Nancy with only Nancy on acoustic. Very awesome...
What a stellar performance by Heart! Her vocals on this great classic was truly amazing, love the soul in it.The choir was FANTASTIC!
Your reaction is typical of most who see this video for the first time. I still get chills every time I watch it. An amazing and deserving tribute to the song and the band ♥️ BTW... Heart's B-a-r-r-a-c-u-d-a has always given me the shivers.
An emotionally wrenching performance - hard not to get choked up!
💕 💞 💓 💗 💖
CN you imagine having to play that solo IN FRONT OF JIMMY PAGE?!? I hope he was wearing his Depends, that's definitely an accident waiting to happen.
Great in every way....including this critic who didn't feel the need to talk thru the whole video...saved his comments for after !
Mate, I watch this at least 10x a day 😂😂😂🥰I love love love their version and your reaction was awesome 😀😁
A Legendary performance, played by living legends in front of living legends!
Heart is one of my absolute fav. Bands since I was about 10. I've seen the live and it was spectacular! They came up in rock right behind Led Zepplin. So it is quite appropriate for them to sing this tribute. And to see the joy in the originals faces was priceless!!!
Shout out for the Pacific Northwest. Vancouver B.C. they remember fondly as do I. You ladies rock!
Hey it's the 76 year old grandma, Ann Wilson was about 60 years old when they preformed this. She is defenitly the queen of Rock. The members of Led Zephlyn loved it you can see it in their reaction.
I know! he almost cry love it!
When I was a young teen I listened to the “dreamboat Annie” album over and over. Her voice and sisters skills are very alluring.
Me too ... and as a (barely) teenage boy that was not at all cool (especially the title song of the album). Led Zeppelin was cool, Rush was cool, Van Halen was cool, not Heart. Wouldn't admit it to my friends. Ann's voice, the acoustic guitar, the hard rock of magic man and crazy on you ... beautiful.
I love how Anne's voice cracks when holds the word 'roll'.... emotional! I cry every time I watch this.....
"Crazy on you" is a must
Saw Heart in concert years ago and fell in love for life. Omg so good always. Thanks for posting!!
Saw them in Indy back in the 80's. Poured rain, Autograph opened and were horrible. Most of the crowd left and when the set was done the clouds lifted and Heart came on and crushed it.
Heart also does misty mountain hop, battle of evermore, black dog and rock and roll
I can’t imagine doing this in front of Led Zeppelin just as a regular group even Heart. To make it special they really paid tribute to the song and the band with all the layers of instruments, orchestra, back up singers then a full choir. They all did an amazing job.
Love, love, love it!!! Ann Wilson has some of the greatest pipes in the business. Move along Beyoncé, you ain't got nothing on this woman!!! Maybe react to Crazy on You by Heart next 👍🏼
Musicians these days have less talent.
@@ellenbacklin I reckon Gaga could do a pretty awesome Zeppelin cover. She was in a LZ tribute band as a teenager and sang with Metallica at the granny's. She can do it all
Thank you (about beyonce) and any others, Billy eilish whoever the hell he is.
Thanks for watching and sharing! I'd completely forgotten about this amazing performance.
Fantastic Pat!!! Loved watching the Led Zeppelin members watching and listening to their masterpiece 🥰👏👏👏.
Hey Pat, hope all is well with you😊. Just wondering if you have gotten around to checking out Joe Satriani's live version of "Always with Me, Always with You"? It is easy to find if you just search him on UA-cam. Maybe it isn't quite your cup of tea, but I think it is 9 minutes and 45 seconds of guitar bliss. I have no idea what you can and cannot react to as far as copyright rules, but I think Satriani is an amazing guitarist, and I think you might enjoy his performance of that song. Cheers mate🍻!!!
Gotta love John...Jimmy and Robert's reactions! Ann Wilson has the best female rock voice ever!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Heart blew that out of the water. I've always loved Heart, but this gave me the chills all the way through that song. I loved the audience reactions, too. They were into it, big time. Thanks, I hadn't heard this before. And Btw- I hope you hit your goal of 10,000 subs real soon, you so deserve that and a lot more.
I love how Anne & Nancy respect that this is about Jason honoring his dad while at the same time giving a “Hold My Beer” performance to those who went on before them
I can't believe this group Heart that I loved as a kid is still kicking ass 45+ years later!
This performance crosses into "epic" territory when the camera pans to Yo Yo Ma, and he's rocking out.
I love this version of Stairway to Heaven, it's by far the greatest version I've ever heard. I have been a fan of Heart since 1974 when I first watched them on a weekly tv show called " The Midnight Special " and the song I saw was "Crazy on You " ! I was 18 years old in 74 and I fell in love with not only the band but also with Ann & Nancy Wilson. Ann is to me one of the greatest female singers ever and Nancy is not only a great vocalist but a great Guitarist as well!
Wow! That was awesome! Thanks for reacting to this or I would not have seen it!
Thanks, my first time hearing that and seeing. That was great and so respectfully and beautifully done
Breathtaking performance by Ann and Nancy. Leaves you speechless. Saw them in concert in the 80s. Amazing.
