No radio, no fairing, no gps... that is exactly why I bought my RoadKing. For me it is the best of what a large frame motorcycle can be. I think you did a great job explaining the appeal of the King.

Update: I'm using my son-in-law's UA-cam sign-on. My name is Lew, I live in Pittsburgh and turned 69 last July. I'm trading my 2014 Moto Guzzi California and buying this Road King. I stopped in at SRK Cycles two weeks ago. It was so cool to talk with Sean. He's a great guy and a savvy business man. Within minutes, he made a fair deal with me and the bike will be shipped to Pittsburgh on January 6. The deal included the shipping, installing a back rest, removing the radio/speakers, PA State inspection and oil change. Thank you, Caleb, for handling all of the details and paperwork. The cool thing is that I bought this bike based on Sean's video. I think Sean has mastered the art of demonstrating motorcycles on UA-cam. If you see a bike that you like on this channel, I encourage to call Sean or Caleb. I'll do another update after my Road King is delivered and I take my first ride.

Amazing how we change with age. I wouldn’t be caught dead using a windshield when I was 19 and had my first Harley. At 32-33 I decided to put a windshield on my Dyna Wide Glide. At 36 I’m ready for a batwing fairing and lowers 😂. The “ old mans” bike is looking really really good to me these days ! 👍🏼

When were young we do lots of crazy things to justify not having the stuff we just can’t afford. Give that 19-year-old the opportunity to roll off the factory showroom floor with the top-of-the-line features and all of a sudden anyone without full fairings is a Plēb. Our sensibilities are formed by our means of production.

UPDATE: I bought this Road King in December. Before delivery on January 6, SRK removed the radio/speakers, installed a backrest, oil change, PA inspection. Delivered in Pittsburgh on the date promised in perfect condition. Took my first ride on this beauty last Sunday---fantastic bike. This was a great buying experience---Thanks Sean and Caleb---and I will definitely do business with SRK again.

I absolutely love the HD Road King Classic (I wish they were made in the US). The simplicity, the spoked wheels, the white wall tires, and the avalanche of aftermarket parts. Such a joy and beauty to behold. For my retirement, I purchased a brand new 2012 Road King Classic (blue/black) that I configured with my preferences. It had the touring trunk, the HD GPS, the BOOM audio twin speakers, adjustable backrest, etc. Unfortunately, in 2017, the divorce lawyers required a sacrifice and my dream motorcycle was lost on the chopping block. But I digress. I’m 56 years young and have been riding since I was 13. I’ve lost count of the number of motorcycles I’ve had the pleasure to ride and own. Having said that, my 2012 Road King Classic was the best riding experience I’ve had on a motorcycle. I’m retired now and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to own one again, but at the very least I have my fond experiences. No one can ever take those away. If you own one, enjoy the good times and make lots of memories.

For Harley twin cams, the issues were solved before they released the 96 engine. So if you get an 88ci (99-06), you may need to do cam work. The 96ci (07-10 for baggers, 07-12 for softail and dyna), and 103ci are very rare to have issues. That's why prices from an 06 to 07 jump quite a bit in the used market. You can find 99-06 Harleys for 5 grand or sometimes less all the time. It's rare to find a post 07 Harley for less than 7 grand.

Great review and point of view! i think you got it right. Myself i ride a dyna fatbob 2011 at the moment, but thinking to go over to a touring model. SG/RG's are nice but with the fairings and infotainment built in that will expire at some moment, which makes you get the choice: change it out for newer device, accept the lesser functionality if you don't or buy another motorcycle. With the RK you can do infotainment change outs much easier. hm. something to think about... i still like the look SG/RG also... owell... choices choices 😁 have a great one! Lionel here in central California. I just bought my 5th Road King, 2022. My 96 had 59k, 00 had 60k when I sold them. I still have my 2003 100th anniversary with over 207,000 miles. The bottom end is still original. Same primary chain, clutch, starter, stator, rotor, regulator, and the total fuel injection system. Just made it a 95 inch with a mild cam at 51k. My daily rider is a 2008 Road King with over 77k. I've been in 38 states, from California to Florida, up to Washington DC. I've as much as 1200 miles in one day, a few times without a single problem. Yes I am a Road King guy, but I am sure I would be happy with any of the other Electra Glides. The Road King has the most accessories that can be added to in Harley's line up through the years. Just saying...

I bought my 2010 Road King this past January. 3884 original miles but it had been stored somewhere that was wet. The whitewalls were yellowed and rust had started to form on the chrome in places. It also had a stage one on it. A new set of whitewalls were put on it and gone through mechanically one end to the other plus a 5K service. Next it was put on the dyno to make sure it was dialed in. Then I spent 5 hours polishing every piece of chrome and another three hours doing a wash, wax, and detailing the bike. The latest addition was a Harley solo seat. You wouldn’t know it was the same bike now. I have the original windshield but I prefer it without it as the view is just amazing compared to the 2018 Street Glide Special with the bat fairing on it. It’s turn key and go and no stereo system or navigation which makes it totally awesome to ride compared to my Street Glide Special.

Had a 04 Road Glide two years ago. Sold it and in November I purchased a 03 RK Anniversary Edition. I live in Wisconsin, could not drive it (purchased off two honest friends, 27,000 miles on it).
It’s being stored right now, getting it lowered and handle bars adjusted. For some reason due to the fact I haven’t been on a bike in over two years, but had a 2012 ultra, before that a 97 softail, then I got the 04 Road Glide. I’m getting nervous about jumping on the RK. Been watching several motorcycle videos a week just to get my mind right to overcome this little self doubt.

Great videos, I´m watching them all. Regarding Harleys I don´t get it how people like them so much. I find them heavy, slow and with a higher need of constant maintenance, they need much more care to be in road use condition than other brands. The only HD that I like is the V-ROD, wich had its engine design and done by porsche. Here in Brazil they are not a hit on sales, although there is a legion of owners.

@@jaketester9555 I will be honest with you, when I got the bike delivered to me, I just walked around it and sit on it for two weeks while it parked in my garage. It was intimidating. Ride it on Sunday morning, weh the traffic is calm, and with every time you ride it you start fell it more and more. And a very important advice: be aware of your limitations, and don't push your luck. I got used to it fast, but it toke me about a year to be completely relaxt and calm on it all the time. The first year I rode only 1600mile. Next year 11K. As your practice, the weight issu will disappear. Another advice: I took a day course with Ride like a pro. If you are not familiar with this, it as a 1 day cours held by motorcycle police officer coach. Helps you with low speed maneuvering. Game changing. Be patient, and know your limits. Good luck, and see you on the road!!!

Yes, they CAN handle really well if the rider is good. I ride a Sporty and I have a very hard time keeping up with my buddy on his 99 Road King in the mountain twisties. I couldn't believe how great it handles. His Twin Cam 88 has lots of low end torque and that big cruiser eats mountain two-lanes for breakfast. I think the only thing limiting his speed in turns is his foot boards. Before I rode with him I was one of those who profiled the BIG BAGGERS. I'm glad I was wrong.

Have ridden her from coast to coast twice, and didn't feel the need for more fairing. I see these massive fairings on bikes that are mainly in-town bikes and i think to myself, they might as well be in a car! Nearly bought a Road King and still want one. Yes they are usually the most expensive and why I will probably never own one as I have a 12' Yamaha Raider S and for my second bike I will get a used Big Dog K9 chopper. But If I couldn't get a Raider then I would get a HD Breakout. Ride safe bro.

A motorcycle is a tool. I’m not the biggest HD fan but a Road King is a good solid bike for commuting and long distance. It’s not made for track days. If you want to get your street Rossi on you’ll need a sport bike. Is a Gold Wing or Victory Vision a better bike? For some yes but as Sean says, it’s not what you’re riding but the ride itself.

If I ever buy another Harley, it'll be a Road King. I like the simplicity of it (e.g. no fairing, electronics, etc.), yet it still has hard bags and the robust touring chassis. If you're a bigger guy (e.g. 200+ lbs.) you'll appreciate that touring chassis on longer rides. Plus, they just have the classic old school Harley looks like the Heritage used to have before the Harley brain trust screwed that up with the new design/look.
