Hee, hee, ha, ha! Donald Shuterland's character "Oodball" is one of the main reasons I loved this classic all-star lined up of a movie! Drama and dark at times, but the cliches' and goofy wartime yuk yuks make this gem of a production to watch! Made during a time when America dealt with the present world problems by making a somewhat political-correct dark comedy on WW II. "The three Kings" starring George Cooney brought this story up to date. But Eastwood and Savalas still rule it best.
You missed the radio operator is 'Angel' from the Rockford Files. The tank mechanic is 'Captain Stubing' from Love Boat. The general? 'Archie Bunker' from All in the family and the German tank commander (Karl Otto Alberty) is in dozens of WW2 movies.
"Hey man I'm about to put you on to something very good and you are giving me a problem. This sectors so screwed up nobody knows where the German lines are or where our lines are I got through with no problem at all now I got a bank back here with 16 million in it just waiting to be picked up you in?" What makes Donald Sutherland so good as the character is he's considered crazy, but he's straight to the point no BS which is the opposite of what a supposedly crazy person is considered to be.
When I heard the song they were playing during the march I started singing "You're in the Army now. You ain't behind a plow. You're digging a ditch. You son of a bitch. You're in the Army now.".
"60 ft. of bridge is somethin else. I need support, units, Odball. I need at least a hundred guys!: Looks out window an quickly turns back "Where do i find a hundred men just like that?!" wait a min- *does a double take* oh..... XD LOL!
"I need at least 100 guys," *points out window* "Where can I get 100 men just like that?"
