    I'm using the exact same scope mount on my 1894, and it's excellent.
    I really like the extra long ring screws and corresponding bearing surface, and there is no chance for misalignment with it.

    Michael Mcilwain-reply2- and now 30/30. Made in Korea- as you say, it is perfect for this rifle. I really like it at 1.5x-sure, the Skinner peeps are nice, but this rig is FAST- throw it up to the shoulder, both eyes open and the reticle is right where you are looking. Nothing to line up-snap off the shot-reap the game. Thanks for being a regular in the Hot Lead Zone…Great 4th to ya...

    Vince Owen-Welcome to the Hot Lead Zone. Thank you for the good word. You notice that I give viewers the principles of what we are doing - gather tools and components; see to stability of gun; steps; boresighting; range ready. I don't want to waste viewers time showing screws being removed or allen screws being tightened - shooters were not born yesterday. If someone wants more, OK, but I'm not going to waste everybody's time - Best Regards…Happy 4th

    I have one DNZ mount it’s great ! Just buy the lowest you can get even the low Mountie a little bit high off the receiver

  • @FortuneCookie45LC
    @FortuneCookie45LC  11 років тому

    Michael Mcilwain-That DNZ mount is $57-$59 depending on where you buy it - so it is more than getting the separate base and then the rings. They are fine, rigid mounts that eliminate the mount-ring interface. What is lost is the ability to use quick detachable rings (but on the rifles I have them on, I have never taken the scopes off anyway). The Bushnell 1.5-4.5x is a dandy, durable scope-only $68 + no shipping on the whole order - from MidwayUSA-I now have 3 of them -on 12 gauge,45/70 see2

    I have a 336... with a scope mount that allows me to utilize the open sights underneath. It is the only way to go when hunting hogs I find myself using the scope on the first one then using the open sights when all hell breaks loose after that first shot.

    Question: if I were to purchase exactly what you have here, what would I purchase? The DNZ comes in high and medium is why I am asking. I would also like to purchase the same Bushnell scope and offset hammer. I am looking at Amazon. Not asking for you to do my AMZ research. I just want to make sure I am ordering what will work. Thanks!

    Do you know what size that DNZ scope mount was? Low, Medium, or High?

  • @jmartin9059
    @jmartin9059 8 років тому

    I like it... It Looks solid and reliable. My 1961 production 336 S.C. Saddle Carbine serial numbered V xxxxx in 30-30 might soon be so equipped with same brand and type mount... and I "may" use the Nikon BuckMaster scope for now in spite of it being overpowered at 3x-9x. 2x or less on low end would be preferable for close-in shooting on running deer in brush....but, using what one has is sometimes necessary...and I like the clarity and BDC bullet drop compensation reticle. Some precise measuring and/or a Mid winter call to DNZ tech staff will be in order to ensure getting the "correct height mount".... for proper clearances such as you mentioned. What is the "actual" eye relief with that scope you chose?

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  8 років тому +1

      J Martin - That scope gives me 3 1/2 - 4" of eye relief...But I don't recommend that scope - I've been lucky with mine, but other reviews report durability issues...Spending a bit more for the Weaver 1-3X tactical would be a much higher value scope - I have one of those on my Ruger Scout bolt gun and it is really a great scope - used by a lot of 3 gun shooters... Have a great day...You will enjoy that DNZ mount... Best Regards, FC

    What is the purpose of the thumb on the hammer if you let it drop anyways?

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  9 років тому +1

      UmmNotQuiteSureToPut That's to allow for soft drop dry firing. If I was only dry firing any of my guns a little, I wouldn't bother doing this. But I tend to work my lever actions a lot and this soft drop dry firing is more to my liking. Some shooters feel that dry firing of any kind is taboo. I'm not that way, but I won't dry fire another shooters gun at all since they might be of that school of thought. Best Regards to you and Happy Holidays

      +BarfingCoyote -- The rifle was safety checked more than once, but you are right - we can't be too safe with our gun handling procedures...If we are going to rack a lever gun, we should check for ammo even though I was thumbing the hammer down. I noticed your DNZ mount is on backwards. I have the same setup. If you turn it around, the mount will still match up to the tap holes. The rear scope ring should be hanging off over the hammer as the straight up and down scope ring should be towards the barrel. The overall look of the fit will also greatly improve. Other than that, great video! Very informative. Thanks.

      +chapmaker46 -- I don't think John Wayne ever used a glass at all with the exception of binoculars when he starred in Operation Pacific ;). But there are great advantages to using a tactical scope on any short to middle range carbine no matter how good the shooter's eyes are...Of course, there is nothing wrong with iron sights either...There were actually combos sold by Marlin where their 336 was sold with scope mounted. I know this is an old video, I just came across it.
    There is no way the parts of, or even the entire bore sighter, would cause a gun to explode. It just won't create enough back pressure to rupture a barrel. Do you have links to verifiable cases of this happening? Yes, we should be careful as to not leave anything in the barrel, but saying it'll cause an explosion is misinformation and not helpful.
    Be well, Don

    • @FortuneCookie45LC
      @FortuneCookie45LC  7 років тому

      Don Abele - Sorry, Don - this is not misinformation...No responsible UA-cam poster can just say something out of our imagination... In my many articles of reading, this event has been documented...However, since i never knew that I'd be doing videos on a future thing called UA-cam, I never bothered to save every publication I have purchased or seen. The article had a picture of a barrel splayed open at the muzzle with a caption that a boresighter left in the muzzle obstructed the barrel.. I just did a search on boresighters being possible barrel obstructions, but all I got are advertisements on boresighters. Best to ya, FC

    • @donabele1243
      @donabele1243 7 років тому

      FC, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I cannot agree with you in regards to UA-cam posters just saying something out of their imagination. There are a lot of videos published which present not only wrong information, but information which could be dangerous or even deadly. The only way for it to go away is for enough people to report it to UA-cam - which is not a very reliable method at removing bad videos. This is why when I see something which I feel or think is misinformation, I will comment, so future viewers can read another opinion and then decide for themselves.
      I commented to your video based on my nearly 50 years of firearm experience, 30 years of military experience, and a degree in ballistics. I have read many documents about bore obstructions causing barrel ruptures; however, in every case, the obstruction has to be significant to cause an actual rupture. A typical .30-30 produces around 42,000 psi of chamber pressure and is more than capable of clearing most obstructions without rupturing. Also of note in this equation is the barrel itself. Modern barrels do not typically splay or explode, they typically rupture like a garden hose would.
      With that said, please let me be clear - I staunchly promote gun safety at all times, including ensuring there is always a clear bore (yes, I check EVERY time before I load) before you discharge a firearm. Every time a barrel touches the ground, it should be verified free and clear. Every time you work on your firearm, you should ensure it is unloaded and free and clear - then re-verify the barrel is free and clear before storing it.
      Hope this clarifies my original statement (which in no way was meant to detract from you urging gun safety).
      Be well,
      Don

      @FortuneCookie45LC  9 років тому +4

      Collin Glover The Marlin Model 336 and Marlin 1894 have solid top receivers already drilled and tapped by the factory for scope mounts. Yes, the gentleman is completely right, but the range of lever guns has been extended to over 200 yards by LeverRevolution Hornady ammo. Nothing wrong with a scope that goes from low 1.5X to 4.5X - at the low setting, fast action throw the gun to the shoulder and the full field is available and reticle is on or close to on target. No need to align sights - just put the reticle on target and snap the shot. If running target, the horizontal of the reticle helps track the shot. In woods, the clarity can help identify the target. In low light, the scope gathers more light than the eye. At the longer range, more precise shot placement. Scopes have one weakness - wobble is magnified as well - so then dial it down to 1X or 1.5X. Aperture iron sights are amazingly accurate, but the advantage of magnification at longer ranges is still significant. Try a test yourself with a 22LR. Shoot at 100 yards with irons and with a scope - any way you want - sandbags, sitting, standing, prone. Once you do, you can decide... And don't let anyone razz you for having a scope on your lever gun - A lot of big name gun writers have no problem with scopes. Best Regards

  • @TrvsadamsgmailcomTravis
    @TrvsadamsgmailcomTravis 8 років тому

    well the right kind of scope will assure your kill, the marlin 30/30c is not a short range gun you limit it when you don't put a scope on it then you just have a short range gun. listen a bore sight and putting you're cross hairs just above your dot will surprise you! I with a scope put a group of shots at 530ft on a 2x2 foot target, you heard me right, the marlin 30/30c is not a short range gun its ability only can come with experience shooters so please put a scope on it. John Wayne did he only didn't in movies maybe because he wasn't using real ammo.

      Nico Saur - Sorry this has offence (your use of all caps). This is not a safety issue. We all do know what we are talking about so communication is not impeded. When does beige become light tan or tan? We friends need to be friendly. I have not said Long Colt for quite a while now because those who don't like LC have a problem. It seems that those who like 45 LC don't have a problem when people just say 45 Colt. Some people hear 45 Colt and think 45 ACP . They are not idiots, they probably even know the difference - they just need a moment of conjecture. • @FortuneCookie45LC

      +gman77gas - Note that Marlin provides the mount holes for scope mounts all ready to go. And the design of the 336 allows for scope mounting with ease. In low light, a low power tactical scope is nice to have. And there aren't sights to line up at 1x, hitting is more sure. The weight is right between the hands so the handling is not really affected badly... Nothing wrong with iron sights, I prefer them on my handguns. Rifles, I use irons or scopes.
