How many of those "weak Marlin ejectors" have you broken in your lifetime? I've had my Marlin 336 since I was an 11 year old kid in 1976. I haven't managed to break mine in 47 years of use and I'm pretty sure I have used and continue to use my 336 more than most owners do. Just since 2007, when I started tracking how many rounds I'm running through it, it's had to eject over 7,000 cases in range use alone and I have no idea exactly how many rounds I ran through it for the first 31 years I've had it, but most years, I'd take it to the range at least quarterly and shoot at least 120 rounds in a range session with it. I'm way more concerned about eventually needing to have the barrel replaced than replacing the ejector. And it's not like it's brain surgery to remove and replace the 336's ejector. Mine comes out and goes back in every time I have the bolt out to clean the bore.
I just inherited a 1949 model JM barrel sn starts with an Fxxxxx 336 30-30 that I don't think has ever been fired. In excellent condition. I'm 75 now and will probably never shoot it. Don't have any shooters to pass it down to. What should I do with it ?

I use a 3-9 with good results. You should add a hammer extension when mounting a scope so that you can reach the hammer better. They don't cost much either.
I will buy a old one without that afterthought safety. I bought one in 74 for about 90 dollars about 700 adjusted for inflation and it did NOT have that lousy safety what is easy to go on or off.
Yes, the cosmetics are very nice. However, in addition to the whopping 8 pounds of trigger pull, there are other UA-cam reports of these new Marlins having trigger creep. If I'm going to spend over $1K for a rifle, it better have a trigger that breaks line a glass rod. And because most stores will never let you test the trigger before you buy, you don't know what you've got until you fork over the cash.
Well, you're basing things on hearsay a bit here. Yes some of the Rugers have a little creep. The 1894s seem to be worse than the 336s (from the couple I've actually seen). Marlin wasn't known for match triggers in the past either. Im a FFL and have had MANY used marlins come and go. Triggers vary allot. My personal 444ss had a gem of a trigger, crisp and no creep breaking at exactly 3lbs. Most have more creep and weight. Some shops let you try. When I bought a new 1894 I bought it retail as I couldn't order one. (Never in stock). I tried the trigger 3 times before doing paperwork. Place your thumb in front of the hammer to prevent it from slamming home. No clerk will stop you.

I like your review, I am the person that engineered the Marlin 336, the name coming from the shape of the rifle like a Marlin.
Did they upgrade the weak Marlin ejector?
Never had an issue with my Remington made 336
I just inherited a 1949 model JM barrel sn starts with an Fxxxxx 336 30-30 that I don't think has ever been fired. In excellent condition. I'm 75 now and will probably never shoot it. Don't have any shooters to pass it down to. What should I do with it ?
I’ll take. Then I’ll have a Marlin 30-30 to pass down to each daughter.
@@user-pm5jh8vj2x Going to have it checked out by a gunsmith. Will keep your info.
Wish that I knew. I'm getting up there too and won't be leaving anything to my kids. Wondering if I should think about exchanging for cash.
WOW that would have ballard rifling and a waffle top. They bring a pretty penny these days
@@garyh1449 Has the waffle top but no idea about the rifling.
1239.00😊🤪🤪🤪🤪. The gun industry is pricing them selves right out of business. I bought a 336 about 18 years ago paid 350.00, at a pawn shop, and today it looks brand new. This is a true Marlin. Prices are outrageous.
Wow you make it sound too good.
Does it come with the scope?
I absolutely love Marlins! But i did purchase mine ,not too long ago before Ruger took them over.....sadl. But the gun it self looks quite nice although i have not had a chance to even shoot it yet. In my state the 45/70 is not permitted at the public ranges and i do not belong to any local gun or hunting clubs. So i have had the gun for a few years and just not been able to take it out for a ride? :>/ So i hope to soon. But i have also wanted a 3rd lever gun. Since my 2nd lever gun is a Henry in 357Mag i have wanted a 30/30 for some time now. So im guessing ill be socking away a few bucks each week until i get enough for one of these here Marlins!!! thanks loved the video and it sold me!!!
I picked one up for $880 today. My fourth lever gun. Problem with the first three? 1 is chambered in .22 WMR, the second is an unfired Winchester Cowboy Commemorative and the third is an unfired 1st Edition Henry Big Boy Deluxe Engraved.
Now I have one for varmints and one for deer to keep my Safe Queens company.
@@RobertTaylor-cj7zd Well i keep a shotgun and revolveer in my night stand next to my bed to keep my house safe. Not to mention a few others stashed around the house, just in case. But living in N.J. is not condusive to keeping my family safe. So i plan to buy some land ina "free" state and head for the mountains! LOL seriously though looking for land in a red state in the Mts? LOL mainly in West Virginia but cant seem to find anything right now? Looking for undeveloped land ,some where in the state? good luck with your wueens company! ;>)
What scope is on this gun?
Is this rifle a 336w or is that a remlin?
What scope is that?
Geeez I remember when Anybody with a job could afford one
Marlin will bring out same Model threaded
I'm wondering what kind of scope would be relevant for a lever action considering the quite short range ballistics of the 30-30 ? a classic and cheap 3-9x40 ? an LPVO 1-4 or 1-6 ? thanks
I'd go with the LPVO
I use a 3-9 with good results. You should add a hammer extension when mounting a scope so that you can reach the hammer better. They don't cost much either.
I will buy a old one without that afterthought safety. I bought one in 74 for about 90 dollars about 700 adjusted for inflation and it did NOT have that lousy safety what is easy to go on or off.
Not crazy price my ass ! 5yrs ago you could buy a brand new one for $400
thanks, i need to get a new one, the old one sucks
The big question is, will they make a 39A ?
I doubt it. They’d be very expensive to manufacture
@J. Rob. Crap. Never bought a 39A, and kicking myself. Guess there's always the gun shows though.
"You know nothing, John Snow!"
Sry, i couldn't help myself:D
8 pound trigger ?
Its not as bad as you think
How much did you get paid to say $1300 is a great deal
Aahh yes a Rulin...nice repro
Man, I kick myself in the a$$, when I was much younger, I sold my Marlin Firearms 336 to a friend of mine and regret that now. I paid just a little over $100 for it brand new back around 1980. Can't believe how much they've gone up.
Does anyone know where I come get a new hammer extension for my 336 I lost my when I went shooting
Hammer extensions can be bought at most gunstores or on line at Midway USA etc.
When he said the price wasn’t crazy I thought he was gonna say like 600 bucks or something.
Beautiful looking 👍👏👋👍
Good review except Ruger has not produced one since 2023 and the line has been down due to bad finish that they can't figure out.
My Remlin 336 cost me just over $336 with a generic scope on it a few years ago. It's decent and shoots well but you can see the quality imperfections that Remington took when making them. Shame on them!!!
I'd buy a 336 if the barrel was 4 inches longer.
I bought mine for 87$ in 1963
Can anyone tell me are these Microgroove rifling or regular rifling
My understanding is that it’s regular rifling. Target Suite made a video about it.
@@riverrapids9812 Thank You
Hammer forged
Love my JM stamped Turdy turdy
Shucks, this is a 4-hankie video. I wept for joy ! And SO affordable.
Way to expensive settle for a rossi 44 or45lc
I'm from Canada I've shot a moose with that gun and it didn't even have a bad kick
That's one reason why I like my Marlin 336, it's got mild recoil!
Take that scope off and throw it away. Ya don't need it. It's a short range brush gun, doesn't need a big scope on it.
Nice guns but way to expensive. This was a working mans gun, but apparently no more. Damm shame. I have two i bought about 5 yrs ago and didnt pay over 500 for either of them. Im gussing you are somewhat wealthy sinse 1200 bucks serms to be nothing. Not sure about anyone else but thats a lot of money to me. Guess im showing all of my 56 yrs.
This sounds like an ad
I LOVE mine
Got mine in 2020 for 649.99
$1239 isnt crazy??? Damn i wish i had your kind of money.
I like my old Winchester made 1907 26" octagon barrel.don't make em like those anymore.😮
No, it's not a screaming deal.
Just because Ruger makes them no doesn’t mean they compare to the original vintage Marlins. They were the best. They were even better than the old winchesters.
$1239 isnt crazy? 8lb trigger? Good grief. My old vintage Marlins and winchesters cost a fraction ofnthat and have good triggers.
I only see 2 for sale online for 2400!
I ❤ me a Marlin 30-30
Original Marlins with the JM stamp before Remington were Superior rifles. Bar none.
Rips rifle in Yellowstone.
