Thanks for the great video and I love your work. 224 segments per row wow!!! I have made about 4 open segment bowls from the index wheel I purchased from you. Its working great but I've only worked up to 48 segments per roll. I can't imagine 224. Keep posting the excellent videos Tom!
Talk about patience, and also know, how. Some people would loose their minds trying to do that.If I knew all of the ins and outs,i have the patience to do that.I have just been making some varieties of vases and it takes patience. "THANKS"
Wow that’s a really nice day God you did a really nice job on that very night really good pattern lots of work though that’s an expensive piece right there God bless you
Tom the love and patience you have for this absolutely amazing segmented work you do is just awesome. How long does it take you to complete a bowl like that. It is magnificent and spectacular, you really are a master in this kind of work.
Amazing details there. How do you calculate the angle of the individual segments and diameter of the rings to get the design you're looking for? BTW I'm subscribing to see what else you do and have done.
Your level of expertise far exceeds $20.00 an hour. I went looking for this very comment - your price - and I was surprised. I expected at least twice that. Beautiful!
hey tom i have a question can u do something like this again but can u show the cutting of the segments and what the demensions are please thanks. chris
@@TomLohman Thanks for the reply. I thought it was 3 x 75 to make 225. Man, I can imagine after gluing about 50 of those rings that you must have had nightmares about breaking it on the lathe! WOW! What a piece of work! I estimated that that was about 16,800 pieces! I'm in awe.
Tom, your work is outstanding. The finished pieces are almost unbelievable. I am highly impressed with the jigs you have created for cutting and placing the segments. But please keep your hands off the saw blade. It is not only unsafe but distracting. Also the audio is sometimes not understandable. Although part of that might be my problem, bad ears. Why do you only glue every third segment to start? Do segments vary in width within a given ring? Thank you for sharing. And please stay healthy, it ain't over yet.
Thanks. Just so don’t touch the saw blade when it is running because that would hurt. The goal is to have pieces located in the place you want them and to have tight joints. By gluing every third piece the glue is dried enough to push in the pieces tight by the time you glued every third piece and cleaned the glue.
Absolutely amazing! The math skills, manual dexterity and patience shown...!!!
Unbelievable, Tom! It looks painted; but instead, it's a segmented masterpiece that belongs in a museum...WOW!
Your work is amazing, I am in awe of the precision in which you are able to cut those pieces to make those bowls.
This is amazing! I've never seen anything like it, oh the multitude of numbers and the magnificent results. Shocked and Delighted 🦋
This is the most intricate, time-consuming, impressive craftsmanship I have ever seen. Ever. I’m in awe! Bravo, sir! Gorgeous and priceless!
Beautiful bowl and incredible perseverance to assemble so many pieces using your custom digital readout fixture!
Amazing! He's so precise he sanded it by a single stroke!!
Tom, another amazing bowl, I have patience, but WOW!, You are quite the mentor, thanks, CHUCK
Amazing Tom! I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only person that rotates the Easy Wood carbide tools!
Patients of a saint! My ADD/ADHD as would have gone fish have way through math before ever cutting a single tiny piece.
You are a real craftsman
Wow! just WOW! I lack words to express my wonder and awe. You are a National Treasure.

Kobie Kaasjager thanks, it took close to 250 hours
Grand job!
quel travail magnifique, félicitation
Did you have the indexing plate custom made? Is there a video or plans for your bowl assembly machine?
I make the parts and sell them on my site “segmentedturning.org”. I do not list the complete jig on my site but I do make the complete jig as well.
You sir are awesome and need more subs
Gorgeous
Less solitude more solidarity

Use a spreadsheet and software, Segment PRO.
wow...amazing ..
Amazing!
Beauty job, how many days dos it take to build it?
It takes a long time to build something like this, it took around 225 hours to make.
This is such a thing of incredible beauty and craftsmanship that I wonder what it would sell for. My guess would be around $1500.00 ... Am I close ?
It took around 200 hours to make so I pay myself $20 an hour so I price it at $4,000
Your level of expertise far exceeds $20.00 an hour. I went looking for this very comment - your price - and I was surprised. I expected at least twice that. Beautiful!
@@cynthiaharrison4610 Yes my hourly fee is low, but I can't seem to sell them even at $20/hr.
AMAZING
hey tom i have a question can u do something like this again but can u show the cutting of the segments and what the demensions are please thanks. chris
I have several UA-cam videos that show how I cut, look at "segmented woodturning using a gluing jig"
@@TomLohman k i am a new youtube and a new woodturner can u check out my two woodturning videos please? thanks. chris
Super cool project. Did you make any mistakes when gluing in those small pieces?
Couple times I swapped pieces and then had to cut them out and glue them in correctly but no complete rows with this one.
Does it come out to 224 pieces per ring instead of 225 because the total thickness of the glue is about equal to one piece?
No it is 224 because I made my index wheel with 224 segments per row. My technique of gluing does not need to worry about glue.
@@TomLohman Thanks for the reply. I thought it was 3 x 75 to make 225.

Where did you get that indexing rig?
I make them, visit segmentedturning.org
What is that level/measurement device you have there? Is that something that you designed or is it store bought?
I make it.
I thought I had patience.
How much $$$ you sold it?
$4,000
How long did it take
Close to 250 hours
