    First time I have seen anyone use feeler gauges and dial caliper for woodworking. Amazing attention to detail and gorgeous bowls. New subscriber.

    Hi, but you have patience when gluing excessively small pieces of wood. Are you already retired or are you still actively working? How long does it take you to glue such a beautiful thing.?

      I am retired, but made this bowl when I working. This piece took around 80 hours, but I have made a vase that took 500 hours.

      You are really good. Excellent work. And kudos to your patience. I also enjoy such work, but I don't have time for it. Not even the kind of material you have in the United States of America.

    I bet with that jig you could create a nice even spacing in segments.. then make a lamp shade. light would shine through the gaps. when you cut the bottom off this bowl, it made me think of Tiffany lamp shades.

      I make basket illusions and thought that since I use a 1/8" bead and vertical burn marks are 1/8" apart why can't I build each layer with 1/8" x 1/8" pieces? If I did is the individual pieces cut an angle? The jig is interesting also but first things first.

    Wow Tom your work is amazing. Once again I can not even believe the level of precision going into this piece. Well done and great video. What is the turntable and precision guide stop for the segments you use, did you make it? Thanks for sharing!

    • @TomLohman

      I built the jig Don, it cost a lot of money to build, around $700

      Fabulous work Tom!
      That jig is pretty sharp. Maybe you could do a video outlining how you did it? We can gather bits and pieces of it's design from you using it, but an in-depth video would be appreciated.

    I just can't imagine how ill I'd feel, if I put that much work into making such a beautiful bowl only to end up cutting the bottom out of it. It's about time to learn how to measure the bottom of the bowl depth, and to not go beyond that measurement.

    • @red_freckle
      @red_freckle 8 років тому

      Len Mullin He didn't cut the bottom out of it.

    • @TomLohman
      @TomLohman  8 років тому

      Len, Shil is correct, this is how I do my bowls. The bottom is the last thing I do on a bowl.

    Tom, i've been working on 48 segment and larger closed rings. I see you're assembling rings with many more segments than that. keeping them round is the biggest problem i having. are you using any jigs or tools that you'd be willing to share?

    • @TomLohman
      @TomLohman  7 років тому

      Scott, I removed your comment on Big Red by accident, there is not a function to get the output from Segment PRO to build a spreadsheet, it is all manual.
