George said in an interview with Ring Magazine: “Sparring with Liston is the most dangerous thing that I ever did in my entire life. No matter what I tried against him, it was me who had to revert back to boxing. Nobody made me box like Sonny Liston did and that happened every time we worked together. He taught me many things, including the importance of the jab.” A good example of Sonny's sheer strength was an exercise he devised in training camp of loading an industrial sized wheelbarrow full of rocks, and wheeling it up and down a hill. Foreman, 19, and training with "the old man," could only carry one wheelbarrow for every 3 for Sonny: “His strength," said Foreman, "you just can't believe how strong he was!"

Ali fought both Foreman and Liston, and he said that when it came to George he just had to take the hits and wear big George down, in the case of Liston, he simply did not want to get hit at all. So for Ali it was certainly Sonny that hit harder. Foreman trained with Liston after the Olympics, preparing him for pro boxing. George said Sonny was the only man that had ever pushed him backwards with sheer strength alone. He also said that you were always really careful not to make Sonny mad! I think it is pretty safe to say that Sonny Liston hit harder than George Foreman.
Wrong, Earnie Shavers pushed Ali back as well with pure raw strength and Ali credited him as well as many other HoF’s for hitting THE hardest and many say none come close
I was debating that he said he’d rather be hit by Foreman and not Liston, Ali around the time he was Cassius Clay didn’t want to take a hit by NO ONE. Not just because it was Sonny & also at the fact Ali at the time he fought Foreman was already experiencing the beginning stages of Parkinson’s so the “rope a dope” was the only tactic he COULD use at the time because around the time there were only 3 REALLY BIG HITTERS. Which is why I brought up Earnie Shavers. Ali, Foreman, Lyle (who knocked him out), Berbrick and everyone who knows boxing has stated Earnie was the greatest puncher and arguably the hardest hitter in history. Liston was a snug puncher because of the size of his fists. The biggest hands in boxing history with a crazy reach (one of the longest in boxing history). I’m sure if Ali did the rope a dope around the time he did it w/Foreman as the same w/Liston he would’ve still said Foreman hit the hardest. And Ali (Clay at the time) took some of Liston’s biggest 1-2 and ate it just dished it back. Foreman never landed a clean 1-2 because Ali’s defense was high and tight. He tired them both out but differently. He tired Liston out with his lateral movement and his feints and head movement. He tired out Foreman by letting him punch himself out and caught most of his punches on the biceps and forearms
@@isaacm.2377but Foreman didn’t want to fight Shavers, even though they were both contenders at the same time and both fought most of the same people in the 70s, Liston was a power puncher yea but he never really fought anyone around the same size and weight as him. But that was because he and Lyle fought in exactly the same style --- one that went all out with no expectancy of going past 5 or 6 rounds. When Foreman went down against Ali and was not able to beat the count, it was out of a combination of Ali's incessant blows and his own utter exhaustion. Foreman lost to Ali that night mainly because he ran out of gas which is what Ali was working towards --- the mans strategy was beautiful and he worked it to perfection --- that is why they call him _the greatest._

I FIND IT ODD THAT THE RHYTHM BOXING NARRATOR FAILED TO MENTION THAT WHEN FOREMAN HAD LYLE IN TROUBLE IN THE SECOND ROUND, THEY CALLED THE ROUND SHORT BY ONE FULL MINUTE. THE FIGHT MIGHT WELL HAVE BEEN OVER IN ROUND TWO IF THAT MISTAKE HAD NOT BEEN MADE.
Foreman beat the crap out of ali for 14 rounds then ali landed a lucky shot bc foreman was trying to knock ali out in 15 round still. If foreman fights the 15 round smart no one would think ali is the greatest.
Ali had George Foreman beat in the early rounds as well..Ropes or no ropes Ali would have beat George Foreman. Ali had big George wabbling and ready to fall well before the eighth round knock out ! ( And that was on account of Ali's big right hand leads and many clean hit combinations) Ali was blasting away at will. Ali's vicious combinations inside was taking a toll on Foreman. .George Foreman would have tired with or without the ropes because he was not used to going more than a few rounds wares Ali was and was prepared to go fifteen easy.. George wouldn't have made it regardless .Also a big guy like George should have loved that he got to hit on Ali on the ropes ( because that's the only way he could hit Ali) Without the ropes George wouldn't have gotten hardly any punching in.( Why complain about the ropes) That was George's way George could hit Ali. Muhammad Ali didn't trick George Foreman. People mistaken Rumble in the jungle as the fight ware George Foreman was beating Ali and Ali had to trick George (not even close.) You could see the confidence on Muhammad Ali's face ( he was gonna win George no matter what way the fight went)

Grizzly bears don't live in the tundra....
Nobody lost this fight no losers here
Foreman beat the crap out of ali for 14 rounds then ali landed a lucky shot bc foreman was trying to knock ali out in 15 round still. If foreman fights the 15 round smart no one would think ali is the greatest.
Youre getting confused.Ali KOd George in round 8.
Spider web
The way he beat Joe frazier ass was sad
Eat a orange
❤
Ali really did come off as a asshole. He showed no one class but demanded everyone else show him class.
Disagree. He played around but was all class when things got serious
Ali and foreman were both bums
Congrats on the dumbest statement ever
How do you come to that conclusion?
@@anthonymclean9743 all you have to do is look at their record who they fought, and how many fights they had in there in a specific time frame they are bums
@@marcmenton8063 Mmmm they both fought the best in their era's,so who would you say isn't a bum ?
@@anthonymclean9743 nobody in this particular era was especially good, didn’t have long careers or many title defenses. Who was so good at this time Joe Bunger or Chuck Wepner?! I rest my case. Although Ali when younger could indeed box by this era he was simply a parody of his former self. The absolute best boxers in the sport were in its golden years of early 20th century to the 50’s. Guys like Harry Greb who fought an amazing 299 times vs. Ali who fought a paltry 61 times!!! Then there’s Gene Tunney . At this time the competition was stiffer and guys like this fought several times a month so times against the same opponents. Joe Louis another great held the title longer than any boxer you could mention 1937-1949! Rocky Marciano went undefeated in his career. And Ali wants to proclaim himself the greatest it’s a total farce
