Ali’s jab was measured with an omegascope. Ali’s jab could smash a balsa board 16.5 inches away in 19/100 of a second. It actually covered the distance in 4/100 of a second, which is the blink of an eye. - Sports Illustrated
Unbelievable. Ali was just different
Nah it wasn’t THAT fast
@@chaseg4098 they measured it, so yes it was.
@@chaseg4098 The Muhammad Ali of 60’s was the fastest heavyweight ever. In the May 5, 1969 Sports Illustrated, Ali’s jab was measured with an omegascope. Ali’s jab, it was found, could smash a balsa board 16.5 inches away in 19/100 of a second. It actually covered the distance in 4/100 of a second, which is the blink of an eye. Jimmy Jacobs, who owned the world’s largest collection of fight films, said that on film tests with a synchronizer Ali’s jab was faster than that of Sugar Ray Robinson. Jacobs contended that Ali was not only the fastest heavyweight, but also the fastest fighter he ever saw on film.
Marv Jenson, who managed Gene Fullmer, concurred saying, “Ali has the fastest hands on any heavyweight I have ever seen.”
Bob Foster, the world light-heavyweight champion agreed, saying, in an interview after their fight, “He has no business being as fast as he is. I never saw that right hand.”
Author John Durant described him as having “lightning fast hands and a pair of legs that moved around the ring like a ballet dancer. He would float just out of range with his hands dangling at his side as if to taunt his opponent."
The article goes on, but you can check it out for yourselves at -- Muhammad Ali, The Greatest...“He Has No Business Being As Fast As He Is.” By: Monte D. Cox
I can't believe he was a heavyweight also he would fight to the death
His win over George was pure genius. No one gave him a chance in hell of winning. His own corner thought he would be seriously injured. But Ali had other plans. Great plan followed by brilliant execution. He suckered everyone in with his constant talk that he would dance and George wouldn't be able to lay a glove on him. George fell for it, literally.
Genius, but probably played a major part in his condition later in life
@@rickyblitz9679 them body shots were brutal and couple right hands to the head ///granite chin
He improvised it on the spot lol he’s admitted this several times
Your right. His corner was pretty much crying before the fight fearing what might happen to Ali
Myself and my aunt's husband were the only people that I knew personally that said openly that Ali would win.I predicted that Ali would win by knockout within 8 rounds or less.Yet no one would believed me.I knew that Ali could take the body shout because ever since the beginning Ali was the only fighter I heard of that trained by having a slugger=Shotgun Sheldon_ hit him in the torso.Forman ,who at times looked awkward and off balance, would tire and then be knocked out.Forman had not gone more than 2-3 rounds in a very long time.
My uncle simply said that a person that had been fighting for only six years was not match for Ali -even at 32 y/o- who had been fighting for 20 years.
Ali's greatest win was overturning the court verdict that banned him for more than 3yrs. He was the greatest sportsman that ever lived...RIP champ
The greatest fighter in history lost 3yrs in the 60’s what he could of done in those years!!!!!!!!
@@billycoutu71 facts
Those would have been his most prime years as a boxer/ he may have never lost if not for that !!!###
Bigger than sports
He helped rescue some hostages too I believe ? Agreed , The Greatest
Ali's wink at Foreman during break showed me what kind of man Ali is. During this hellish fight, Ali still had the class and humour to laugh and wink
Like he ever had class
According to Rahaman he winked at Jim Brown who was commentating on the side of the ring

20:08 Imagine the level of sportsmanship Ali showed when George is falling down and he didn't hit him...
Mortal Kombat: Finish him!
Yeah I was also intrigued about sportsmanship in combat?
It is even more crazier when you watch Foreman's first few pro fights; he was known for hitting people after they were down
It was like poetry
People act like Ali was weak because of the prissy dancing. He was actually a very hard man. Punching him was like punching granite. He is also one of the best grapplers in boxing. Forever the GOAT.
Dirty boxer.

Greatness doesn’t come from being undefeated. But when you win when people doubted you, that’s greatness
14:04 "But the man's in trouble!
*Imma show you, how great I am!"*
Oh how right he was... love those lines. Getting goosebumps from his speeches. What an admirable man, a truly unique specimen he was. With his willpower and determination alone, as well as his good deeds, he moved and inspired millions around the world. Rest in peace champ, we miss you.
And having a country help set up the fight for a win is absolutely great. Yes, terrific
@@c.galindo9639 …
@@tj_anti8931 that’s right
@@c.galindo9639how did the country set George up to lose? Was George paid to get pieced up at the end?
@@amzofficial8868 yeah pretty much if you don’t look into everything the Nation of Islam is capable of. Drugging someone would be as easy as anything in there especially when people actually wanted to physically harm Foreman as if he was an enemy of Africa or something. Then again Ali fans just put his image on a pedestal as if he is some holy entity or something like that
Most people still don`t understand how tough and powerfull Big George was. Most of the guys like: Oh, prime Tyson would whip him bad. But no, he would destroy almost any man in the ring. In my opinion, only Ali, Jimmy Young, Holmes, Vitali Klichko, Lennox Lewis and Sonny Lston could endure his fearsome power and counter it somehow with their incredible skills.
He got never got hurt in the ring as he said, just experianced 5 knockdowns, got up from all these like they are nothing, had willpower a few man can posses in the ring, heart of a lion, conditioning, pretty good athleticism for his size, extraordinary punching power.
To me his body and chin made from a different material that is not discovered yet by mankind but impossible to do damage. Man was unbreakable in the ring. His only real weakness was his slowness but not that much, which I believe god had to nerf him to make him beatable
Especially go watch his fight with one of the hardest punchers in the history, Ron Lyle. You will understand what am I try to explain. He had underrated skills also, good timing, vicious left jab, guard manipulating, making oppenents of balance with pushing movements...
This obviously makes Ali`s win even more great. But this fight is not the reason Ali was the greatest. Ali is the greatest because of his willpower, speed, ring IQ, combinations, endurance, chin, durablity, pain tolerance and ability to making strategy while fighting. Even only his boxing skills was enough to make him The Greatest, but he had even more, like Mike Tyson said: ``Sometimes, god make individuals like Ali, you can`t be like him``
Ron Lyle was pretty close to taking Foreman out, his toughest fight according to himself
@@whiterunguard9182 I not think so. Yeah, even Foreman says his toughest fight was that, but when Howard Cosell came to interwiev right after the fight in the ring, Foreman looked like he just did a superset movement. Yeah, he got badly hurt in the end of the 4th but right back up pretty easy. He was almost unKOable.
And the way he easly talks and moves after this ferocious war is even more imperessive than the fight. Lyle was almost dead!
And the only man that could KO him was in my opinion, Sonny Liston. But still I think Foreman would beat Liston to. Lyle just proved that Foreman was a human and can be hurt if you hit hard enough. And I mean, you have to hit so damn hard to hurt him!
Tyson Fury would demolish hin
@@goldchef2754 I would say who knows, and in my opinion, Fury can`t last 2 rounds to big George. He wasn`t like bums Fury faught. At 70`s only real tough guys trained and became a boxer. Nowadays every guy that thinks he can throw a punch supposes he can be a tough guy and becomes a boxer. Don`s misunderstand, Fury is a very skilled boxer but come on man, this guy proved himself aganist other incredible fighters like him.
You are like 15 years old in my opinion, go and watch his fights, I felt his power even from that shitty footages. If you can``t see his power, I can`t say nothing about it. Go back in time and hold the heavybag for him. This seems to be the only way.
@@dogukanmi6904 I think you’re greatly underestimating Tyson Fury and the Fury Legacy. Tyson isn’t just some kid who was bigger than everybody and started boxing to bully and seem tough. He is a 3rd generation boxer he was literally bred to box from the day he was born. Why do you think his name is Tyson? Yes George seemed big and scary back then but if we’re talking skill Fury had what like 20 years training before foreman even started. If we put them both in the ring at 30 or w/e their primes are I think Tyson wins. Foreman didn’t hit that much harder than Wilder and Wilder couldn’t knock out a washed up version of Fury.
This fight took place live in Msia probably around 10am. I was a 16 yr old in form 4 then. I somehow managed to leave the classroom walked back home like a kilometer away to watch the fight. Surprisingly dad and my brothers didn’t even mind me being there away from school. I remember my brothers who were butchers working in the market telling us the town was nearly empty because of the fight. We knew back then Ali will have a hard time against Foreman but everyone wanted Ali to win and win he did. Probably one of the greatest fight ever!!!
I was privileged enough to attend middle school and part of high school at a boarding military academy with Joe Frazier’s son when I was younger. Over the years many of us got to know Joe fairly well during times he’d visit. It took a while to get used to understanding what he was saying, he was old and all the head injury and stuff had SERIOUSLY affected his speech, and at first it was borderline impossible to decipher. And I mean unintelligible. But after a while we’d all learn his cadence and such and it got a bit easier to tell how quick, witty, and intelligent he well and truly still very much was. Not to mention him being one of the kindest, most genuine, hilarious dudes you could ever imagine. But he would wrestle/horse around with some of us quite a bit and you know damn well he beat the shit out of all of us Lmao even as old as he was. He’d let us cadets try to fight him while he stood completely still and had one arm behind his back. Or he’d stand the same way and let us try to push him over which was physically impossible. He was immovable lol I stg. He also had fiiiiire suits lol and one day let me wear his black gator skin cowboy hat around campus for the day lol. RIP Joe, he really was truly an amazing guy. And Derek, if you see this, I hope you’re doing well.
yes boxing will do that too you.
Joe Frazier 👑 His hard work as the smallest heavy weight did pay off. He always go up against the Giants.
@@larrycoleman9513 not always, especially not nowadays

Nah. Prehaps the greatest heavyweight. Sugar. Ray. Robinson.
@@TransformersTalkRAW I agree even ali said sugar ray robinson was the greatest fighter pfp of all time
It’s just something majestic with this man…..He laughed at adversity when it would break many. He came back from defeats like they didn’t matter. Had a chin that could take nuclear bombs. He has a grace like 🦋 , yet deadly like 🐝
bees are not deadly, that's why he said sting, you genius
Foreman was undefeated and won, iirc, 37 KOs before he fought Ali, and Ali was his 41th fight, which means he had more than 90% or even 95% knockout rate at the time. This record was why people back then were mostly betting on Foreman, and almost no one bet on Ali because they believe Ali would just be another victim of Foreman, and most likely by Knockout.
And boy, how Ali proved them spectacularly wrong. Not only Ali survived a fight against Foreman, Ali even knocked him out. Sure, not the knockout as in heavy punch to the head, but knockout by exhaustion. It was still, however, so damn impressive.
ali works a moonlight miracle!!!
That right hand was a sledgehammer punch. Ali could have KO'd him in the 5th.
It was still dam hard punch to the jaw bro. Not just exhaustion. You see Foreman head snap back? People still underestimate Alis power. That right was an absolute HAMMER. Not exhaustion
I love the commentaries. My hair stand on ends listening to the surreal voice.
You haven't read or heard all of Muhammad Ali's poetry, witty remarks and wisdom.
One goes something like this: Last week I wrestled an alligator and I bundled thunder. I am so mean I make medicines sick.
Ali's greatness is not only in the ring: he was a philosopher, a poet, a comedian, a humanitarian, a peace maker, a civil right activist, a magnanimous person, and a loving father.
He could have been a good lawyer or a politician.

Whilst Ali is an icon. We gotta give George credit too for being scary enough for making Ali rise to the occasion. Every dancer needs a partner

He breaks down all these guys styles. Ain’t no mindless slugging machine winning the heavyweight championship when he’s 45 years old, dude.
@@rawheadrex1972 too bad Ali never got to prove himself with a rematch. Anyone can win 1/10 times.
For me, this was the greatest performance in all sports of all time. The key features that made it so amazing was Ali strategy, execution, demonstration of will, unlikeliness of victory and combine all that with the fact that he said it before he did it just shows pure genius.
This is the greatest moment in any sport. I watched this live as the world waited for Ali to fall like all the others. What he did was truly unbelievable. Nothing comes near this event. Ali was not the greatest boxer of all time- he was the greatest athlete of all time.
Wow. You can tell when Ali took an opponent serious he trained so much better and you could tell. He prepared himself best for Liston, 2nd Frazier fight, second Norton fight, Forman, and second Spinks fight. He choped a whole lot of trees down as part of the Forman preparation and he was in the greatest shape I ever saw him. His power in that fight shocked everyone. The damage he did to Forman while leaning back on the ropes. He would lean back, take cover while Big George pounded, then he would pop up real quick with combinations. Leaning back but popping Formans head back with those punches. When Ali was in shape he was almost unbeatable. Only losses he overlooked his opponent or wasn't in shape for being out of boxing for 4 years but he got revenge on all his losses. I don't count his last fight as he should not have been close to a ring
I'm from Louisville Kentucky & grew in the same neighborhood as Muhammad Ali..I just can't believe I actually come from the same grounds that Ali walked..I always looked up to this man..Truly an inspiration 🙌 to me! Love 💘 You..CHAMP

Great video. Excellent insight. I agree with everything you said. I loved Ali growing up. Idolized him. I still think he was the greatest fighter I ever saw. A young Ali, with that speed of hand and foot was invincible and yes, we were robbed of 3 years of his prime. Biggest personality in the world. There will never, ever be another one like Ali. Many will try, all will fail.
What an era for heavyweight boxing, the likes of which will surely never be seen again.

This is the best win by any fighter ever. Absolutely incredible. That “ I’ll show you how great i am” so fitting for this performance
16:56 Ali whispered into George's ear, "is that all you got?"
Let me confess, this video, the voice over everything literally each thing is motivating me to fight for my life❤️
Brilliant footage here !!! Wow, this could have gone on for 3hrs. I'll pay to see all the fights. Bravo on this one 🙏👊🙏👊
Foreman was a more powerful puncher than Tyson, said by Mike himself. Ali took a very brutal beating and came back.
Yeah no joke, proven by winning championship belt back after he was 40!
Seriously nobody fought as good of a competition as Ali or had supreme confidence, and the will to win. He fought one of three most dangerous boxer ever, Sony Liston. He fought a relentless pressure fighter, Joe Fraizer who was known for punching raw frozen meat from the kill house. Then he fought a stylistic nightmare, Ken Norton who broke Ali’s jaw, and Ali still went the distance, and went on to defeat Norton in the rematch. Then he fought one of the hardest punchers ever not once but twice, Earnie Shavers. He might not have Mike Tyson. But he fought Floyd Patterson and was going easy on Floyd. He fought a German southpaw champion. On a technical level, he took out Archie Moore who had over 100 Ko, and actually put Rocky Marciano on the canvas once. In terms of fame, he fought a shot Cleverland Williams and a elder Zora Folley. But it still gave other boxers a lesson on approaching before applying it to a wider scenario. He stoped Ron Lyle, the man who made George fight a slug match. Ali, was perhaps the toughest man ever in boxing, tough as Joe Fraizer is not together mentally. He shredded the big man Ernie Terell. He came back for money in order to survive, and went 10 rounds, and if the fight wasn’t stoped he was willing to go 15 rounds with a prime Larry Holmes, who in his own right is also one of the best in the business. People doubted him to earn a title a third time. But he was great, prevailed, and never gave up and changed the word. He won. Simply the greatest fighter ever. Nobody beats Ali, wonderful man and the best. Bless his soul, and hope he is doing well in heaven. It is the will of Allah that bless him. GOAT
Greatest Performance In Boxing History Long Live Ali 😇

This may be my favorite fight of all time period. I'm a huge fan of Mma, and enjoy that "game" more than boxing. ”This is the wrong place to get tired!” - That’s the coolest line in all sports history.
I heard somewhere that during the instructions by the referee that Ali told Foreman something like "You've heard about me since you were young. You heard about me all your life. Now it's time to meet me your MASTER!"
How great it has been to have lived in that century.
How Ali got up so quick from that knockdown I will never understand 😳
The greatest of alllll time. Rest in peace brother 🙏
Watched this fight live and the expectation and excitement for fight fans was immense, probably only equaled years later by Tyson/Wilder 3 imo.
The general consensus was that Ali was the peoples favourite but that the reality was that George Foreman was unstoppable.
However it was Ali’s redemption and although he didn’t realise it at the time it was George’s redemption as well because he took time away from boxing and then came back and ultimately became the peoples favourite and champion again himself.

I have to be honest ... this is truly a wonderful short film 🎥 on this fight. Well narrated & worded perfectly. A true delight to watch but also to hear & listen to every word spoken. Ali was truly a once in a lifetime human being. What he did on this night in Zaire is always gonna go down as Legendary. This was beautifully done. I enjoyed every second of this. Bloody fantastic.‼️
Bruce Lee studied Ali's foot work it was that masterful.
Cool video, congratulations! I'd only have a couple of comments. I would've included the second bout with Frazier, which Ali won and made it possible for him to challenge Foreman, to give more context. Second, I'm not entirely convinced by the editing of the Kinshasa fight, which seems to have been an even thing or even with Foreman ahead. But the fight was pretty one-sided. Ali did absorb quite an amount of blows but he was in control all the time and his sneaky combinations did much more damage to Foreman than Foreman did to him. In fact, I think Ali won all rounds barring one perhaps before KO'ing Foreman

That was The fight of the CENTURY 💝 MUHAMMAD ALI prove to be the GREATEST 🤩
Great video! To anyone who's never seen Ali fight and if you had to see just one fight of his. Let it be the 'Rumble in The Jungle' circa 1974.
Ali, at least half a decade past his best years went up against the most terrifying boxer of that era, George Foreman - Arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history. At the time Foreman was undefeated, in his PRIME and just reeking invincibility! Ali employed a strategy termed as 'The Rope a Dope'. With balls the size of a silverback gorilla, Ali stayed on the ropes using it as a shock-absorber and audaciously dared Foreman to punch himself out for 8 rounds. It was the only technique that he could have used to defeat a formidable opponent like George Foreman. And what happened next is a pure heaven on earth moment!!!
This was one of the most story-book endings that you'll ever see in sports entertainment and cemented Ali's legacy as the greatest fighter the world has ever seen. It was way more than just a championship victory. It was a triumph of brains over brawn. Of experience over youth. Of heart over strength.
To put how great Ali's opponent, Foreman was in context - He went on to reclaim the Heavyweight title in 1995. Over 20 yrs after he lost the belt to Ali. That's the calibre fighter Ali faced that night. It was Impossible. But as he proved it over & over again throughout his career and his life - Impossible is Nothing.
Long live The Greatest. :')

This was a great video! Ali was truly the GOAT!
Zaire (the greatest sports thing that ever happened) is a perfect bookend to Liston 1. Both times he was supposed to get killed by the baddest man on the planet ... until he killed them instead. And it's rarely mentioned that, had he folded and gone into the army, it would have been one long USO tour with him as the star, having his ass kissed. That's what he passed on, out of principle. Long live the King.
Exactly! The fight against Foreman had exactly the same story as the first fight against Liston! Everyone had written him off, and he destroyed both with a different style! Ali here wasn't the same dancing quick feet Ali that you can't even touch let alone punch, and it's such a shame that he was robbed three years of his career! The dancing Ali version from the mid to late 60s is probably the best boxer of all time! He was so fast and can take a punch, so you literally cannot punch him and when you do, he could take it!
*20:53* this man's voice and the way he ended brought me to tears. What Ali pulled off, is like Egypt defeating Israeli military in Yom Kippur war.
There's a reason Ali created the term of ''GOAT''. He is the one and only original GOAT.
right before Foreman knocked Norton down the 1st time George landed 3 very hard ramrod jabs and caught Norton at the end of all of them ,and the last one had him hurt ,stunned and paralyzed. George also stunned Frazier badly with jabs .George would do better with Holmes than Ali ,Ali's 1st instinct is to move -jab.Holmes 1st instinct is to advances behind his jab, aggressively.
"I know you got him picked, IMMA SHOW YOU HOW GREAT I AM" and thats exactly what he did ❤️

Truly one of a kind. He dominated the most competitive era in HW boxing and transcended his own greatness in the sport. His style was purely his own. No boxing trainer would ever teach a fighter to slip punches the way he did (radar chin) or neglect ever throwing body punches.
People hated him for his arrogance, and his racism honestly but no one can make a top 5 ATG list without him. Hands down the greatest heavyweight in boxing history.
