Liston wasn’t a trainer just a mentor and sparring partner early in his career.

@@adrianoelblanco9586 I wasn't including him simply because Ali didn't have a choice. Much like tyson also had 2 separate careers, but that wasn't a choice for him either. Ali was stripped for draft dodging, tyson was stripped for alleged rape.
Foreman stepped away, then as an old man decided he wanted to come back and try it again. And he was successful. Idk, it just seems really special to me.
@@adrianoelblanco9586 Ali's layoff was only 3 years and he still has some of his speed. Foreman's layoff was more than a decade and he had gotten huge and slow as molasses and was rustier than a nail on the bottom of the ocean.
Foreman’s my favourite boxer of all time. I just loved the way he threw his winding uppercuts and hooks.
What i loved about forman was his wild nature in the ring. Maybe didn't look that wild and savage cause he was slow. But the brutality made up for it if one put that in to perspective. My nr. 1 heaveyweight

Foreman, marciano, Joe Louis, Dempsey, Walcott, Baer, frazier, tyson, Duran, haglar, and chavez would all be scary with ufc gloves lol. There are more but those guys would be absolutely dominating in the stand up game in ufc.

@@akash6159 sonny was a good fighter. The problem with ufc fighters is they think they are superior because they know many disciplines of fighting. So when they strike with someone who understands boxing they think he's limited. Which is far from the truth. The true boxing stance is really where all your mobility and power will come from. Even mui Tai guys know this. In reality most any well disciplined boxer will do well in stand up in ufc. Sonny would also dominate no question.

Part of Foreman’s ceaseless pressure was he knew he couldn’t be hurt. He had a titanium chin.
especially when he made his come back. he ate shots for 12 rounds from tommy Morrison (one of the hardest punchers at the time) and didn't go down once. not to mention when evander opened up on him in their match.

The thing that always shocks me about Foreman is that despite his reputation he isnt even that big. He was within 5 pounds of Ali and Frazier and he wasnt that much bigger than many of his other opponents during his first career as a boxer and he wasnt significantly taller than many of his opponents either. He seems larger because of his power and since unlike most boxers (especially those afraid of his power and in fighters) he didn't crouch but stood upright all the time. Which makes him look far taller and larger.
It's just amazing how much more power he got into every punch while maintaining a mostly flat footed stance and with the same weight as many of his opponents. Fellow hard punchers like Tyson and Wilder get power like that with leaping strikes and wild haymakers but Foreman often knocked men around like rag dolls with pretty tight punches.
I saw a drawing once, where Cus D'amato was Dr. Frankenstein and Mike Tyson was the monster. The background was a gym with science lab gimmicks. It was really cool.

George Foreman is one of my favorite boxers ever. I particularly enjoy older Foreman in the ring more than younger Foreman; he seemed much more patient and disciplined in the ring when he was older. Also, I recommend you look up his testimony about being born again by Jesus Christ after his loss by Jimmy Young in 1977...really beautiful testimony
I always say old George's mind with young George's body does not lose to ali. He wouldnt punch himself out. Ali played mind games with a young fighter that was never really tested.

The ref saved his life, Joe would've kept going till he killed him. Guy didn't have an ounce of quit in him.

@@brentharlow3559 Yes, IMO he just wanted to try not to lose face....he had a reputation to keep, and hoped his corner or the referee would not allow him to continue..and if they didn't, he would tell them that he had injury, though in fact he was afraid of big george and felt he had enough getting beaten up
That's the difference between KO and TKO, unable to beat 10 count and being stopped by the referee, Ali was not knocked out by Holmes either, his corner asked the referee to stop, though in fact he must have felt that he had enough beating up
@@brandocg3207 Hard to say, he may have been thinking "if I can just make it a few more rounds he'll be out of gas, and I'll have him." Hell, that's how Ali beat Foreman was to survive the onslaught early and take him once he gassed. The best either one of us can do is argue counterfactuals because we're not mind readers and we'll never know for certain. Though I do believe what I said before, I think if George knocked Joe down 30 times he'd have gotten up 30 times or until his body finally gave out on him whichever came first.

Love George! He was a great champion and he was very athletic and fast with his punches earlier in his career. It still amazes me that his career spanned from the 60's through the 90's and he regained the Heavyweight Championship in the latter part of his comeback! I like that he has a good career now as spokesperson and that he is healthy too! Great video and thanks!

Wow, thank you! Foreman is my favourite fighter and his autobiography is the best boxing book I've ever read. Not much about boxing
He hit so hard and he wasn't putting his whole weight n leverage on the punches like Tyson, Foreman was just a freak
Foreman was one of the greatest boxers of all time and my personal favorite fighter, so I may be bias, but he was far more intelligent than he is given credit for both as a boxer and as a person. How many people are smart enough and have the charisma to be both Sonny Liston and Muhamad Ali in the same lifetime? His ability to recognize and emulate successful people allowed him to make millions both inside and outside the ring.
His mastered two distinct boxing styles (old time extended guard and later the cross guard). It was his ability to use both that allowed him to succeed at 45. That and tremendous strength that he could translate into what seemed like effortless and yet extreme punching power.
Why didn't you include the Ron Lyle fight?! It was one of the greatest back and forths in boxing history!

Big George! I've been a fan since that episode of Sanford and Son. I remember my Dad saying, "Hey, that's George Foreman!" Naturally, I asked a few questions and dad informed me that he was a boxer. I knew what boxing was, but as my dad continued to talk about Foreman the more I recognized his admiration of the man. That made me a fan right then and there.

By the time i was old enough to know who George Foreman was, he was an adorable man selling burger machines on tv. Its always fascinating and astonishing learning about how much of a hateful destructive psycho monster this guy was when he was in his boxing days.
Even when he was 18, he looks like he is just throwing his arms. But obviously his mechanics are 100%, plus his arms are massive.

I really enjoyed watching this version of the fight with no commentators. I like commentators too, but it was a totally different experience. I found that I had to observe the fight more closely, and I was not getting distracted by the often very interesting commentary
Probably the reason a lot of Foreman's opponents did not die is because he couldn't connect that last wild hook as they were falling unconscious.
The bolo punch. It is deadly if thrown properly. You don't see it as often, you may see some variations though. As much as I love Frazier, he's bobbing in the same position made it very predictable and easy for George to time him with the uppercut.
Foreman was needed just to show how great Ali really was.
Once more George became one of the best boxing commentators of all time ex fighter commentators, so to me he was very smart man and could always articulate well, usually monsters can't talk that well he was very articulate just chose to stay quite and dark the first career it so bizarre what kids and a good woman will do to a man. Completely change him into a killer to a lover how dynamic is that

The narration here is great, truly makes the monster who was larger than life, the thing he was... excellent job, I am impressed.
the one thing i hate about Foreman was the pushing. A lot of people think taking points for pushing is tough because pushing is done by so many its basically legal - but it isn't legal. And really i'm talking about instances like Foreman against Frazier. That pushing was outrageous and had a huge effect on the way the fight went down. Amir Khan was a more recent exponent of the push, due to having zero in-fighting skills ....
just to go off topic a little, Khan is the perfect example of how the era he fought as amateur ill prepared fighters for the pro game. For one, the scoring. Punch contact had to be seen by 3 or the 5 judges to score a point - almost impossible given the viewing angles - as such coaches didn't teach inside fighting. Of course there were exceptions, Virgil Hunter for one but i think its safe to assume he was preparing SOG for the pro's anyway ...and don't get me started on professionals now being allowed into the Olympics - amateur and pro boxing are supposed to be very different - the same but different like - rugby union and rugby league - but more than anything no sport should be in the Olympics where the Olympics isn't considered the pinnacle of said sport - for an amateur that was the Olympics - but for a fighter already in the pro ranks... well its a belt not a medal isn't it!!! wow! that was really off topic

This guy was one of my favorite heavyweights of all time, the power of foreman was or is god given. The only fighter I've seen punch like that is joshua and no where near the power no where near i repeat. Foreman was a great boxer and had a deceptive jab that did most of the work. His defense was good as well. Thank you for the vid.

@@robbielong2884 Dundee loosened the ropes so Ali could evade Foreman’s uppercuts and hooks. With a regular ring Foreman stops Ali imo. I think Ali realized this when he never gave Foreman a rematch even when Foreman was easily crushing the guys that gave him hard fights.

It looks like he learned what he does on the street. As opposed to boxers who look like everything they learned was in the gym so it’s the cookie cutters style that everyone does. All of the greats had their own way and their trainers just sharpened them up and got them in shape.

Saying Jimmy Young won a controversial decision over Foreman is a bunch of ISSH. He outboxed George. Took his best shots and dropped George in that fight. Unanimous decision win. Jimmy Young went through a 3 year period of beating Ron Lyle twice. Outboxed Ali & got cheated. Beat Foreman and got cheated for the championship vs Norton. PUT SOME RESPECT ON HIS NAME. Jimmy Young made Foreman see God after the fight in the locker room
