Thank you for watching and ride safe! --Craig Ripley
That tool is a good idea so no-one can steal it like the other ones can be undone with their fingers so that's a good they thought that out
I have enough to do keeping clear of other traffic on my bikes, but this looks like a nice option vs keeping my phone in a jacket pocket.
Thanks Craig. You test some really cool gear.
Seems like a nicely built unit. I mounted my phone on my handlebars until the vibration ruined the camera. I now just keep it in my jacket pocket and Bluetooth it to other gadgets, and I like that arrangement a little better.
Well got a Joyroom and it works great. Thanks for the recommendation. Got to keep up with those darn wrenches!
Thank You just received My JoyRoom like it a Lot
I had RAM before .
Video yourself with the phones video recorder and it...will actually show you in the video how much vibration is taking place. I switched holders after i did this
Thanks very nice review 👍
I don't have the phone on my bars, just in my pocket. That being said I do like the looks of the unit as well as the ease to move from bike to bike. Looks like a winner.
I use a dedicated Garmin GPS for navigation as I just find them to work better than phones and no need to worry about being outside of coverage or forgetting to download the offline maps before you get outside of a coverage area. However, the main reason I don’t want my phone attached to the bike rather than me is in case of an accident. I wear my phone in a secure holster under my riding jacket. This increases the likelihood that I will still have the phone on my person once I stop sliding/rolling in the event of a crash. It is hard to call 911 if your phone is on the bike 100’ away from you once you stop moving and might be unable to move to the bike.
I also tend to not like things too highly integrated. I never liked TVs with a VCR or BluRay built in or all-in-one stereos where the loss of one device makes the entire package much less useful. I like appropriate division of duties. I use a GPS for navigation. A phone for communication and music. An iPad for trip and route planning. Works for me and the failure of any one device isn’t fatal as they can back up the others to some degree.
I am with you. Most of the time I do not want my phone mounted to my bars. That is why I like the fact I can remove this easily and only use it when I might want it.
I ride to avoid my phone. Mine is in my pocket or my tank bag. Sometimes it's in my bag on charge when I am using Google Maps for my B-Line Moto.
The Quad lock system is much sampler to assemble. You have look it the cost of your case in the over all price. On the bike I use the phone more for interfacing With my Cardo edge system.
My case is two years old and I did not buy it to mount the phone. The case is not required to use the mount, where the quad lock is--or you have to put the stick on mount on the back of your phone. Again, nothing wrong with quad lock, but they are more expensive and you have to buy into their system
I agree about the Quad lock, I do not like their case and I had a Quadlock mount fall apart on me when riding and dropped my phone on a Highway.. I use a Ram mount brand phone holder and never had a problem.... they also have wireless charging mounts, vibration shock mounts ect... They have a couple designs but I do not use the X shaped one but the "Quick Grip" one.........
Nice review.
good review!!
Bought one of these in anticipation of picking up my 1200 Rally Pro later today (finally 😁). I was surprised at just how solid and well built it feels. I got the red but pretty sure I’m going to send it back in favor of the all black. I think the red highlights might be ever so slightly distracting. There was even a decent discount on Amazon so it was under 60 bucks.
Is there a RAM mount option for those of us who don’t have round handlebars? Nicely built, reasonably priced.
I do not think Joyroom has anything specifically, but you could use a short RAM extension arm with the phone holder itself (discarding the rest of the mount). The ball on the holder fits a 1" RAM ball. I did this with my RAM mounts just to make sure it works. You would of course need to get the extension arm and the ball mount.
"I don't want a pickle, just want to ride on my motorsickle." I just use the phone mounted for maps and directions.
Well damn, didn’t take me long to do a 180 on this… I just upgraded my 18’ iPhone to a $1400 15 pro max (yeah, expensive but I’m not a frequent adapter). Since one of the biggest reasons I upgrade is for the better camera, and I’ve been reading about people’s cameras being damaged by vibrations (with dampening and all), I don’t want to take the chance.
Also, I was watching a review on the XT2 sat nav, and the reviewer said something that made perfect sense. If he goes down, he doesn’t want his phone attached to his bike but rather in his pocket. I will be riding solo in some remote places and the last thing I want is to be stuck without anyway to communicate if I were to have any kind of serious mishap (despite having a smart watch as well, would rather have some redundancy built in).
This seems nice but its HUGE the quadlock is much smaller and a standard universal set up with your own case can be had for $70 if you do not need the wireless charger and far easier to use. You also do not need to use the quadlock case you can use thier stick on mount on any case.
To be fair if you compare the quadlock costs including their custom case then you need to include the cost of your own OtterBox case with the cost of this system which would put it over $100
There is of course nothing wrong with buying the Quad Lock and nothing wrong with spending the money if it is a priority for you. I get criticized for my Klim gear, but it give me a great value.
I got my prices from the Quad Lock site based on my phone (Galaxy S21 Ultra). They did not give me the option to buy a stick on adapter for my existing case, but I see that it is available in accessories. My total cost for the adapter, bar mount and vibration dampener is $85. That is before adding in the cost of my Otter Box case.
Looks like the vibration dampening works great! Are the side arms adjustable up or down? Was wondering if they'd interfere with buttons on certain phones.
The side arms are not adjustable. They are clear of the buttons on my phone (when I put it in right side up). But if some phones have the buttons lower, that might be a possibility.
This item isn’t available for Europe 😢
Your GPS does vibrate a lot. My GPS is nearly rock solid on the BMW factory mount. What GPS mount are you using? You’ve probably covered it in a prior video, but I either missed that or just don’t remember. 😁
I have the GPS mounted to the adjustment bar for the windscreen. The screen assembly is rubber mounted so it get some vibration up there. But, it keep my handlebars clear for cameras :)
It looks like a nice product, Craig. I still have my Victory Vision Tour (love the bike and can't bring myself to sell it) but the handlebars are definitely a weird shape. Do you think this might work with it. I only mount my phone when using Google maps on a long ride, but my current mount is a bit antiquated. I would be interested in your thoughts.
This would not work very well on the original Vision bars. I had a RAM ball where the mirrors would have gone on the control pods. You could use this holder with a 1" RAM ball and a short extension arm. But, you would have to discarded the rest of the mount.
Thank you.@@LivingOffTheSlab
Some bikes dont have round handlebars. If it had ball mount, I would get one.
$15 on Amazon right now.
Just not a fan of mounting my phone to the dash. I don’t need the distraction or the extra clutter. Purchased the Zumo XT2 for that reason.
So using the zumo for gps isn't a distraction but using your phone for gps is? The purpose of having your phone on the bars isn't about reading texts or emails, it's to use the gps already in your pocket....your phone.
Anything on the bars or dash is a potential distraction.
You should know this. I think you do. But you seem to have taken what I said as if I were telling you what you should have on your bars. Which you shouldn’t have because I didn’t and wasn’t.
I don’t care how you ride your bike. And you shouldn’t waste your time concerning yourself about what I think about how I ride mine.
@@thebigoaktree8401 wow, bad day, no coffee, chill out, you made a comment, I countered because your comment lacked logic, one is a distraction but the other isn't when both are doing the exact same job...if you're going to get on a soapbox, perhaps prepare to make a valid point and not get offended when someone points out the flaw in your comment. Have a nice day, and hey I do care about what you ride and how you ride even if you don't.
Too big for me, Quad Lock is much better for me 👍🏼
