I was going to rebuild this motor before removal but after tearing motor apart and seeing the engineering behind this engine it is junk. I would never buy another. Yamaha made a huge mistake. The 1100 was to reliable so they put this junk motor in that no body can rebuild. You have to buy a new motor from Yama or buy a new ski. All the rental skis by me are all sea poo now. I seen a lot of ex’s getting towed back. Svho or fx high output fzr fzs is the way to go! Best skis ever. Still love Yamaha. Good luck
Dude is there anyway I can pay you to tell.me exactly where the hoses that pol cooler and alspnthe fresh water connection run. ? I just installed new motor on same ski. And im not positive where they run exactly.
The oil cooler will discharge water out the side of the hull. The oil cooler intake line will connect to the main waterline from the jet pump. There should be a Y shaped tee behind motor somewhere.
There is an internal oil pump that blew apart and caused catastrophic damage. Not sure why they decided to make it internal but it’s non serviceable for the most part.
Got a v1 with 800 hours that has low compression on 2 cylinders, it actually does start and run but needs a rebuild for sure, do you know anywhere that sells a rebuild kit? All I could find was buying everything individually off of partzilla

That engine looks like it had a hard life and wasn’t looked after at all. It’s also filthy in the engine bay so someone has been stuffing around with that engine and doing hot ups I suspect.
You will most likely have to get a head rebuild and a timing chain kit. I am guessing the valves will be bent. Not an easy fix if you have never done this before.

fx160? i had one. replaced motor twice in a year. ended up the ecu's go bad on those and they dump fuel into cylinders and fill the oil with gas. kaboom. hard to find an ecu. the mr1 1100 motor continued til 2015 in the vx model. i believe until they came out with the tr1 3cyl. i have a 2010 vx with an 1100 motor in it. it looks exactly the same as the fx 140 and fx 160 motor. except for the intake manifold and bezel.
the only difference between an fx140 and fx160 was the ecu. the vx 1100 came out around 2007. It is a very tuned down version. if well maintained can get well over 1000hours on motor.46 to 48 mph kinda sucks though. SBT sells rebuilt motors for the mr1 application.

How much would a job like this cost to remove an engine?.. I ask because I dropped a price of plastic while pumping out the oil when I was doing an oil change it it looks like now I might have to remove the engine to get to the oil pan to remove that piece of plastic

I do not like spark personally. It feels like a riding a big Fishing bobber. Also top of the hull has to be removed to do any major work. Choppy water you get beat up pretty bad. That being said the tr1 motor after tearing apart is very complicated and in my opinion not rebuildable. I think Yamaha made a mistake changing The 1100 motor on earlier vx/fx. They were way more reliable and rebuildable. Ride was nice too. You could get 1000 hours out of them. Guess that’s why they discontinued. I personally ride an sho. Love it but the supercharger clutch has to be changed often. I’ve had the motor out 8 times in 400 hours for various things. If you can find a 1.8 fx highout put 2008 and up you would love. Very stable and fast. No supercharger just 1.8 motor. Earlier fx high outputs used 1100 motor with a computer tune and they blew up often. Sorry for the delay.
I own a 2019 EXR and the motor has blown 3 times on me .. right now as I’m writing this my ski is at the dealership getting its 4th motor .. each motor gave me about 10-14 hours . Ski only has 44 hours on the hull and on its 4th motor.. I have a BIG case going on with Yamaha but they wanna keep doing the same thing and not get me out this horrible Jetski.. I’ve been towed 3 different times and let’s say that’s sucks like crazy dude.. exr only has a tune and I think that’s y it’s blowing up so easy ... the old MR1 was great ... if anyone knows a good lawyer that cloud help me please list him I live in Florida.. I NEED HELP TO FIGHT THEM .. it’s not fair I’ve been out in the Ocean stranded three times with a brand new 2019 Jetski and 2 of the times I had my young 8 year old son with me ..
@@carlosreyes9839 Yamaha should not be providing you warranty if you have an increased power ‘tune’ on your engine. Even says so in the warranty and you can’t expect Yamaha to provide warranty if you do that. The TR1 is bullet proof for those not hotting up their engines.

Try SBT.com. Call them and ask about it. They are based in florida. Here in SC I am still trying to find a reliable source for 4stroke yamahas.

Wasn't hard took maybe 1-1/2 hours while making video.
To prevent rust and corrosion for engine,do u have to remove computer when spraying with wd40 silicone or fluid film?

I would say if you have never rebuild an overhead cam motor before it would be very hard.
