Yamaha EX & VX 2017-2024 TR1 Engine Removal

TR1 Engine removal process on a 2017 Yamaha EX. This process will be the same for years 2017 to the current year (2024). Also, the VX models will be very similar. This engine was hydrolocked at high engine RPM which caused a catastrophic failure. Hydrolocking events will almost always result in the complete destruction of cylinder number 3.

I like how you say zippy ties. 987 was written on the oil filter so I guess that's how many hours was on it the last time they did an oil change? How did water get into the engine to Hydrolock it? Was it flushed without the engine running?

Hydrolocking on this engine is unfortunately more common than you would think. Excessive water gets into the Hull of the engine and gets sucked into the intake. This happens because the drains plugs were loose or completely missing, cracks or wholes in the body of the wave runner, or the wave runner was tipped upside-down several times in a row.
